I’ve been using TrueNAS Core with 4 different Windows 11 VMs (I know not the most recommended) accessible via 6 Zero Clients and 4 Laptops (VMs have multi-users and running RDP Wrapper to achieve this) It was running all good for past 5-6 months but recently it’s been that TrueNAS shutdown the VM on it’s own whenever there is High usage in network shares. So, I’m thinking of shifting to a new platform for the Host OS. I’ve shortlisted three out of many which have support plans and I’ll be okay to take one for a support but not costing 25% of Server Cost per Year Proxmox (have used it multiple times but everytime some error or mis-configuration led me to shift from here, also it’s on a cheaper side for support plans) XCP-NG (have heard alot of good things but never tried it, plans are a bit expensive but I’m okay with it) VMware ESXi (have used it previously liked the way it handled VMs but have 2 problems, one, hardware raid for achieving redundant storage and second, expensive support plans and even the community isn’t that friendly) Now for the Hardware, AMD EPYC 7542 Supermicro H12SSL-I MBD Micron 128GB 3200MT/s ECC Memory (4x 32GB) Samsung 860 Evo 250GB x2 (for Host OS) Gigabyte Aorus 500GB x4 (in Mirror with Stripe) (for VM disks) Intel X710-DA2 10G SFP+ NIC Seagate Exos 10TB x2 (for network shares and local backup) With this kind of Hardware in a single node, what Host OS will be the best option for Virtualisation? (PS - for the single Node there are 2 backups available, one server at my home in different location from the above which will be installed at my office. And second in the cloud with Backblaze B2, obviously encrypted)

I figured that there's a reason that a laptop manufacturer would want to put a custom windows install onto the computer (other than for bloatware) to help it run and manage it. I've had my Lenovo laptop (type 20RM) for almost 4 years now, and I'm thinking about using this laptop as a sandbox so I can install different operating systems and try options other than Windows. Before I do this, I wanted to know if I was running any risks with changing the OS. Is it safe to wipe the SSD clean and install stock windows with Microsoft's installation media, or should I make recovery media with Lenovo's tool to reinstall their version? Will Lenovo even let me install their version of windows on a completely new SSD? I appreciate the advice!

Summary Microsoft may start more aggressively blocking older CPUs from running Windows 11. As Microsoft is taking steps to encourage users running Windows 11 on unsupported hardware to upgrade their systems or downgrade to Windows 10. This change comes in the form of a watermark in the lower right corner of the desktop, displaying the message "System requirements not met. Go to Settings to learn more." Users have reported seeing this message since the January 2023 Patch Tuesday update. Quotes My thoughts This is not good for those using Windows 11 on systems that didn't originally meet the system requisites. I know there are plenty of people who installed Windows 11 on a computer that supposedly didn't meet the system requirements. What is interesting about this, is even people who have had Windows 11 pre-installed on their systems are somehow being faced with this watermark too. Regardless, it seems Microsoft is not as motivated to move people to Windows 11 compared to how they were with Windows 10; as with Windows 10 there wasn't these strict requirements. I wonder if Microsoft has some incentive with hardware manufacturers to push people to upgrade their computers to more modern hardware. Personally, I'm enjoying Windows 11 thoroughly. I have been using it since last May, and prefer it over Windows 10. However, with implementations like this, I can see why people have issues with Microsoft and the new OS. I don't get why Microsoft pesters people to upgrade to Windows 11, but then enforces these rigorous requirements. If you really wanted people to make the switch, it would make sense to be more lenient with the requirements. Lastly, adding a permanent watermark like this will deter people from using the new OS and it might not even compel those to upgrade their systems (as not everyone is in a position to do so). Apparently, there are registry editor hacks to remove this watermark, but who knows how long before those stop working. So I've built a new pc, it's my first time and I keep getting BSOD for driver related error codes. All components are brand new, except the GPU. I've tried instaling windows on a HDD and a Kingston plus 240GB ssd, with 2 different boot drives and I'll still get the blue screen of death. All my parts seem compatible and I've used memtest86 to test the ram and there was no errors on that. No previous versions of windows were on either drive and I cleaned the SSD using the command prompt tool on the windows set up screen. Parts are; AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Asrock B450M Pro 4 Corsair CMK8GX4M1A2400C16 8GB DDR4 GTX 1050 Ti Mini Corsair VS450 PSU Kingston plus 240GB SSD

Hi, Since the situation with the covid has been longer in many countries than initially planed and the income of many families has been heavily affected. I was thinking if there is a way to make a PC work as next: an operating system that allows two screens, two keyboards and two mice connected to a single PC so 2 children (or a parent at work and a child at school) would work at the same time on same PC. Is there a way to also use a second port for audio output so two children of different ages would attend different online classrooms using each a headset?

Since I am a student in NSW, the Australian government offers students free software such as Abobe Photoshop, Illustrator and many other things, another thing that it offers to us is Windows 10 Eduaction version. Im about to build a new pc and dont want to fork out and extra $120 for windows. I was wondering if the Education version has any software restrictions because it is Eduaction based and if there is any way I can get around them or disable them, thanks guys.

I am currently putting together a parts list for a new build. my current build has my OS installed on the SSD. if I were to use the same storage for the new build, with all new components except for the storage, would I need to buy a new copy of the operating system or would windows 10 continue to work through the SSD?

Hi LTT People, I am quite new to building a PC and I have encountered a problem. After setting up my PC for the first time, all went smoothly for one day. I am using an AMD a10 7860k along with it's igpu. The next day, i noticed that the transparency of my taskbar was gone. I tried restarting my computer and tried doing a system restore to the initial state as well. To no avail, aero still isn't working. I ran services.msc to manually restart wddm. The transparency went back for like a second then it reverted back by itself. I then tried to use the windows troubleshooter and it said that my graphics driver did not support wddm (my amd driver is up to date though). Since I was planning on buying a dedicated GPU, i disregarded the issue because i thought ill be using a totally different driver after installing it anyways. Today, i installed a GTX 1050 2gb GDDR5. I disabled my igpu from the BIOS as well. On first boot, the aero/wddm service was back. I used my PC for 3 hours or so and then shut it down. When i turned it on again, i got shocked that the transparency was gone again. I quickly checked on my games but they did not get affected. However, when I was watching videos on youtube, i can't help but notice stutters every now and then. My NVIDIA drivers are up to date and I'd like to ask for help before I go to my last resort which is to reformat my computer. If ever, would it be better to get Windows 8.1 or Windows 10? Thanks in advance! I've just restored my very first PC by scavenging all the parts from 3 old different PCs. But i don't know if whats the best OS for my Retro PC. Here's the Specs : CPU : Intel Pentium 4 2.40GHz GPU : Inno3D Nvidia FX 5500 AGP Alternative GPU if the first GPU failed : ATI Radeon 7000 RAM : 1GB of DDR400 RAM (i'm probably going to upgrade this to 2GB of RAM soon) HHD : 80 GB +40 GB Seagate IDE Hard Drive PSU : 300 watt PSU I'm not going to use this for gaming obviously. Just going to give this to my parents for basic purposes.

sooooo, long story short, I've forgotten what the heck I told myself I'd run this thing with because its taken me many *failed* attempts before I FINALLY got this thing up and running on the hardware level successfully (due to many an unforseen bullcraptastic display of many fried pieces of hardware that I have never, in my life, had any issues with until this attempted build of a personal backup server for my local data) and I have taken so dang long to get this darn thing up and running that I have completely forgotten what i told myself ID RUN FOR THE OS.... I have a (currently) 7 disk 3tb raid array on a nice used datacenter grade raid card running in raid 6, with the eventual goal of upgrading the disk capacity and quantity to get either a raid 50 or raid 60 down the road I need to know, what do you all think I should use as the operating system for this thing?? I had been looking into amahi, ubuntu server, and just plain old windows for the operating system, and the only mandatory thing here is that the operating system MUST BE ABLE to use crashplan for off-site backup purposes for what ever data this thing houses, so as long as what ever you all think I should run can be fitted to run crashplan as well in one way or another, then it works for me, but my goal here is networked local backup capabilities from all my localized devices (bonus points if you can set a login system for all of the users IE if i choose to allow guests to backup to this thing as well and have per user ability to show/hide files from everyone else that the files do not pertain to) and has the ability to be locally accesed and sync files to/from windows pcs to this thing via folder sync abilities, thats the two main things I'm after here, is the syncing of folders to/from pc to this thing and back, and the ability to have the thing connect to a crashplan account and backup everything off site as well, everything else is a bonus and nicety, and any additional suggestions are welcome, especially if it supports file encryption and compression at my descression...but yea, anyone have any suggestions? please and thank you and appologies if this is not quite in the right location

Hello all, I have a laptop with a Hybrid SSD(HSSD) and my OS was factory installed on the SSD partition of the HSSD. I would like to know if I can migrate the OS to a PCIe M.2 ssd I am buying, without migrating the contents of the rest of the HDD. Kind regards, Ibrahim Haider
