Wasn't sure if this should be posted in General or Mobile, just wanted to share my experience today. I got to try on the Samsung Gear VR powered by Oculus! This was my first time trying any kind of virtual reality since VirtualBoy was brand new- yes, I'm that old. It was INCREDIBLE! Oculus has set the bar so high for VR and I couldn't be more excited for the future of electronic entertainment. What sets this device apart from the Rift is that it's proprietary to the S6 and S6 Edge, which mounts in front of the goggles. That does make it suck for everyone else- but perhaps this is just a trial for possible expansions and universal headsets down the road? With only a $200 USD price tag, it really isn't that hard of a pill to swallow for an outstanding VR experience. The in-store demo is amazing, and had me (a Best Buy employee) going around the store making sure all my co-workers got to experience it the same way I did. Do I want one?- Absolutely. Will I switch to an S6 for it?- Possibly under certain (unrealistic) situations. Do I recommend it?- If you have a the supported phone already, 100% yes. What's the downside?- It did give me a headache after a while (I repeatedly tried it out over a few hours), but that could have been from not wearing my glasses. It not extremely high definition, or high frame rate. Just like the rest of current generation Oculus products, the clarity is sub par. Once they've achieved a HFR and higher pixel count, this could be a strong contender with premium televisions and monitors. [Edit] Hopefully this doesn't come off like a sales pitch. I promise I'm just a lover of technology and I got to experience something revolutionary today. Here's a video of me trying it out!

So this link appeared on my facebook feed. What do you think? interesting that this industry seems to often lead the way in, using new technologies.

So I came over this cool bit of the Royal Norwegian Army using an Oculus Rift to see better while driving tanks and other armoured vehicles where visability is low or close to zero. There's a video in the link, it's all in Norwegian, but the images speaks for themselves. http://www.tu.no/it/2014/04/15/se-haren-kjore-stridsvogn-med-oculus-rift The Majour talks a little about the pros of having the capabillity of a 180 degree view in front of the vehicle when you have to shut all the hatches because you're under fire. The developers here are talking about giving soldiers the same perspective as they're used to from video games. What they have done is very simple though, they've just strapped on some civilian grade cameras, laptops, a Rift and some basic software. The majour throws out some expected costs for millitary grade equipment contra civilian grade and how much more it costs. This is just a "fun project" it's more of an exercise in devoping future solutions and this setup will not be in use any time soon probably

Sooo GTX 960 out for sale yesterday... And the R9 280x beat it out in a lot of game benchmarks... Is this because of new drivers or does the R9 280x really beat it out? Second, I am building a. Oculus DK2 build for a friend. Since the R9 280x has 3GB GDDR5, and the 960 has 2GB, would that affect its performance in VR? And which is the better card for the Oculus in general? I'm curious what the LTT forums think. Here are the two GPUs: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-r9280xdc2t3gd5 http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn960g1gaming2gd

It uses a middle-ware texture streaming technology available as a plugin for Unreal Engine 4, called Granite SDK (Developed by company Graphine http://graphinesoftware.com) and it allows developers to use gigabytes of texture data in real-time scenes. This not only helps pushing the quality of games toward CG fidelity levels, but it also makes the opposite possible: using assets generated for CG productions in real-time environments. It will be very interesting to see this technology being implemented in actual games, this is just another feature that adds on to the vast technological arsenal at UE4's disposal. Since the engine has now become completely free, we might start seeing some interesting projects very soon. The demo will be available for download in the near future. "oculus VR CEO, Brendan Iribe, told the audience at Web Summit 2014 in Dublin, that a consumer-version of the company’s Rift VR headset is “close”. While he understandably declined to offer a timetable for launch, he says the latest version of the headset, Crescent Bay, is “largely finalized for a consumer product.'” source: http://thenextweb.com/facebook/2014/11/04/oculus-ceo-says-consumer-rift-vr-headset-close/ this might be a repost i was in a hurry so i just had a quick look but, at least we have some kind of idea of when the rift will come out now, I might buy it for Christmas in 2015.

So we have all heard of the 1st person mode that is coming to PS4/XBONE and MORE IMPORTANTLY PC. Do you guys think there will ever be support for oculus in 1st person mode? Could people make a mod for that? Because that would be the best open world game ever created. (Sorry, the title was a bit mis leading Haha) Rant below:

Do you even rift bro? Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe said at a conference in Ireland today that the current developer model, code-named Crescent Bay, is "largely finalized for a consumer product." Brendan Iribe (Oculus CEO) Iribe says the company has changed significantly since it was acquired by Facebook in March. Operating as an independent subsidiary, Oculus has grown from 75 people to over 200 employees and now operates a separate R&D division. Alright , Here's the kicker to this, When he said months , he meant technically, 23 months , By that it would qualify as "many months" but "not years." <_< technically it's 2 years The big challenge remains developing an effective input device. Iribe says keyboards, mice and gamepads aren’t up to the job and neither is gesture-control at this point When on the interview where he was asked about the threat of rival VR products, Iribe said his main concern is choppy implementation of the VR technology So when asked that when would Oculus felt that it would be ready to launch to consumers? ibre responded “We’ve gone out there and set this bar,We want to get it right,We don’t want it to be four or five years. We’re eager for this to happen.” pretty good news update imo, What do you think? Leave your comments rants & Thoughts down belowwwwwwww.. http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20141218PD210.html Title says it all. What do you guys think? Interesting at all? Do you thin they'll focus on XBone too much and leave Windows in the dust?

Now that's one way to promote a movie.. B) if you live in L.A , New York, Houston or on Washington D.C. area ,Brace yourself , you might be lucky enough to experience the upcoming movie in fully immersive experience Oculus 3D, The Oculus Rift experience allows participants to don high-tech headsets to feel as if they are traveling, even floating in zero gravity through the Endurance spacecraft from the film. The Film Director Christopher Nolan donned the virtual headset himself. The Experience , Well not the actually movie, atleast part of the movie, This is the first time the Virtual reality system is being staged for a movie promotion on this scale, The Ocuolus VR team along with Christopher nolan came up with this idea of promoting the movie & expanding the possibilities for the virtual reality system, The project required a team of 15-20 people over the span of two months to painstakingly re-create the world and "the exact ship" from the movie.the experience is that you get to travel within the confinement of the ships interior & also a ZeroG experience out into space & through the wormhole, The virtual Oculus Rift world was revealed on Monday in NYC and will travel throughout the country ahead of the film's opening Nov. 7.

That's right, the Oculus Rift DK1's "Firmware, Schematics and Mechanicals" are now all completely open source. Reddit thread: http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/2gwvd2/the_dk1_is_now_open_source_design_schematics_and/ Direct Link: https://github.com/OculusVR/RiftDK1 In my mind, this helps quash the talk of Facebook destroying the company. (Granted, that could still happen, but I've got a little more hope, at least). It reminds me of Tesla's move of opening up their patents. This, in theory, sets a baseline for VR headset quality, at least on a technical ability standpoint. There's no reason to have a headset that performs worse than the DK1, which was actually pretty good, all things considered. VR Tech, it's the future baby!

Original Source: PETA.org Blogpost - Here PETA has been visiting colleges around the United States to give students the option to 'live life as a chicken' and experience what chicken's go through in today's meat industry and then hands them a free Vegan Stater Kit, no joke. So what are your opinions? Personally, I like that PETA is showing the world a new use of VR and I hope that more companies will see the need and the use that VR has and that its more than just for games.

The Oculus keynotes will soon start on Twitch. This keynote is mostly for developers but I thought maybe some people on here would be interested. Don't expect anything amazing to be announced. (Looks like I was wrong about that). Link: Oculus on Twitch Scheduled and other info on Oculus' website HERE. Flattering picture of Luke on the big screen (not actually Luke). Yes, that is what you look like while wearing a VR headset. They see two different experiences. "Mobile VR" and "PC VR".

Hi all, My question is quite a difficult one, it's very specific. So I got a 2gb gtx 770 and a single 1080p monitor, I'm looking for an upgrade. It's meant for gaming and 3d work. The games I'm looking to play are racing sims and bf4, hardline etc. An ultra wide from lg would be 2560*1080, the oculus will probably launch with 1440p or higher and triple monitor would be 5760*1080 of course. So the next question is: could my single 2gb gtx 770 run these setups? It doesn't have to be on ultra even though it would be nice for immersion. So what would you do? Thanks for reading!

THE LINKS IN THIS POST ARE NOT SAFE FOR WORK OR FOR PEOPLE UNDER THE AGE OF 18 Ohh Japan, you so crazy. The upcoming game "Custom Maid 3D" will not only feature the "Ju-C AIR" controller, which allows you to control the game with your penis, but they have also announced support for the Oculus Rift! The Oculus Rift will be used for 3D, and the Ju-C AIR will be used to control your avatar in the game. The game is already in beta and it will be officially released the 22th February 2014 and it will cost 13,440 yet (144 USD), and that price includes the, special remote. That plus the Oculus Rift only ends up being about 450 US dollars, which is still far less than a real girlfriend would cost, so you not only get customizability but you also save quite a bit of money in the long run. If they combined this with the technology from Tech Arts 3D, we might even get competitive multiplayer! The whole package: The Ju-C Air. The joystick on the top is used for controlling the camera, or your avatar or whatever. The inside will detect trusts: A kind of safe for work gameplay video with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic6k-s3xyv8 Seriously though, it was only a matter of time before this happened. I am not sure if it's pathetic or brilliant. Maybe a bit of both.

Oculus rift prank ideas? Ok. So here's the reason for this post. Me and a friend of mine are gettin pretty exited for the oculus rift. And as i was sitting next to him i noticed that he was wearing closed headphones ;) It was at that moment i realized that there is an epic opportunity for some elaborate pranks to be prepaired. This is basically what your would be prank victim might look like. Note the lack of vision and impaired hearing. There are of course the simple but effective pranks like for instance: Putting a picture of something scary right in front of their immediate field of vision when they take the device off. Putting a fake spider on the wall next to them. I would just like to take this opportunity to see what you guys might come up with And hopefully have a proper arsenal of things to do when the oculus is finally released on the consumer market. If there is a post like this that has been created previously. feel free to lock this thread

I wear prescription glasses. I don't know how many other gamers out there do (c'mon almost all of us). Wouldn't it be cool if the oculus rift came in a glasses compatible version? Or even if you could have the stereoscopic lenses be set to your prescription. Having prescription quality lenses would also make the video look stunning. High quality glass and lenses are critical to playback quality. Anyone have any input or other ideas for the oculus?

Greetings fellow techies! I have to decide what to buy, and i'm really in doubt. Because i really want both, but i can only afford one of them atm. So which one would you choose? I've always said that the moment the DevKit 2 gets out, i will order it. But i would also like to boost my games on my 1440p monitor by upgrading my 670 to a 290. (leaning towards the DirectCU ii) Oculus = 504 $ (with shipping and tax) R9 290 DirectCU ii = 556 $ Thanks for voting.

Source: http://www.theverge.com/2014/3/25/5547884/interview-oculus-founder-says-facebook-deal-will-make-virtual-reality/in/3631187 According to this article there is till hope for VR, it seems like Mark was legitimately interested in VR as something more than money And more good news Yes this is all a press release but I don't think its all blatant lies, there is still hope!
