VR Design <what is it that you want> With all this talk about VR, i cant wait to have my own VR Headset and go in and play some games. if it be a first person shooter like COD or a game like Zelda, maybe even something in the DBZ world. I do like to have nice thing but its always better when these nice thing look good too. Saying that, ive seen the design oculus went with and as well for PlayStation but idk if it just me but i dont like the way they look. since i was a child the talk about being able to go into my favorite games has existed me but now as an adult they still do but i also think about how the devise will look like. My thoughts on what this VR devise a what it would have looked like has change time and time again but is anyone ells disappointed on the looks that have come out. Maybe i want something like in Sword Art Online but im curious on what other people want. Tell me what you would want your personal VR devise or system to look like?

Hello guys, here is what i think is going to happen for Oculus rift, please read the whole thing and watch the linked video before commenting. " sorry if linking a youtube video is against the rules but its important". Currently a lot of people complaining and talking about this problem which will keep on going till the release of the main product, ofc during all of this time both Facebook and Oculus gaining publicity from the people who have no idea what Oculus rift is, thus more future costumers for both. Facebook main goal just like any other company is money and gaining more costumers which is another currency for money, so Facebook wont change Oculus rift much and just continue in developing it normally, the minute the main product hits the markets us the gamers will be careful when considering buying the Rift, everyone will be watching reviews news and so on, until everyone starts to notice there wasn't much changed in the Rift and that its a good product so far, thus people will go on and buy them just like nothing happened to it. so far so good for both us and Facebook, we get a good working product and Facebook getting the income from Oculus Rift and the trust of the gamers. The real thing starts when big number of people have bought the Rift then Facebook will start to implement functions like share a video while u are playing take a screen shot and so on, the main goal of these functions is to link rift users to Facebook, linking a user to Facebook doesn't mean making an account and that's it, when you share like or do anything on Facebook you are keeping the site active thus more companies goes toward more ads in Facebook. now please watch this video so you can understand the next part: " the video is not mine, it is by Veritasium " Now whats the real difference if Oculus didn't get sold and they made the Rift on their own vs making the Rift now? is it that the product wont be good for us gamers, nope not at all the only difference is maybe Oculus wont try to suck every possible penny from us while using the product, like Facebook currently does " i said maybe because i cant be sure about anyone", at least maybe we had hope or time until they start to think in such a way but now since Facebook is in control we 100% know the money sucking thing is coming for sure and from behind our backs. Facebook is a website just like any other website and we know what happens to websites over time they simply die, now there are two methods to keep a website alive, first method is to introduce the need for this website to exists for example Google, you simply need Google to search for websites, pictures, translation, etc, another example is cars manufacturers websites you need those to simply look for what that company have to offer what they sell and so on. The second method is to force the users to use the website, now you are like i am on the internet the land of freedom no one can force me to do anything, well sadly it is happening lets take Facebook for example, many websites uses Facebook for comments, share and likes, every time you use any of these functions you are making Facebook active and you are forced in a indirect way to use Facebook functions, same goes for twitter and other websites. Now Oculus Rift is a part of this as well, implementing functions linking to Facebook is forcing you or some other people to keep Facebook alive without knowing, and that's my friends how business works. now what you can do about this? well nothing since this concept still exists" if i stop buying this product, everyone else will keep buying it thus i am better of buying it", nothing going to change any soon, but when every u make a business please make sure to not be one of those greedy people and hopefully others will follow you.

If you had to choose between one or the other, can't have both now you richy-mcrichy-von-fancypants, would you rather have... A 3D-Printer. For imagination sake let's say the new MakerBot Z18: That one that prints full sized helmets! I would say one of the super industrial machines that completely mimic the copied object: But, let's make the scope of this question something that can be somewhat achievable by almost everybody. or The Oculus Rift. Crystal Cove edition with that infrared spacial placement upgrade. And of course here's that LTT love >>> To create in reality from the virtual or to create in the virtual to mimic reality? oooOoooOOooOoOOooo ok i'm bored...

PCPerspective's Ryan Shrout reviewed his own developer kit of the Oculus rift. this looks really awesome....He brought up some cools issues -low resolution being bothersome (mentioned higher resolution lenses being in the later versions) -motion sickness? -strange controls -light headset -realistic feeling of depth some things I noticed. the right and left eye will see two slightly different images (in optimized games) making it more immersive. does not seem good at all for FPS and other genres where you need to precisely and quickly aim/shoot. seems like it could be very good for simulators (racing games, flight simulation, etc) what do you guys think of this? TLDR: I want an awesome computer for star citizen with oculus rift :) Okay, where to start..... Currently I am using a G73Jh Asus gaming notebook about 3 years ago and is still pretty working fine today. (Thanks to Asus' got a full replacement within the last month of 2 year warranty!). I use it as my full desktop replacement and it still runs pretty much any game perfectly fine (so long as i clean out the fans regularly). What I'm looking for in a new rig: Budget : £800-1500 GBP ($1200-2000) USD (Most likely somewhere in the middle) Bear in mind this will include an Oculus rift (lets assume £350/$400 for consumer version to be safe) Case: This is a tough decision! I have literally been looking at all different styles of cases, but what i want is something that has a nice carry handle (it maybe moved on occasion). I am aware that the more I spend on a case will cut down on what I can spend on hardware and i want to try and get best performance/price ratio. I have considered the Bit Phoenix prodigy (Around £65) (I'm not sure about making the compromises of an ITX Board ie.. 2 Ram slots) The Scout 2 (£70-£90) (Normal or advance) Or the CM Storm Trooper (£120 ish) Other suggestions are welcome! Motherboard: I don't really care to much here. A board with good on board sound. Here's the important bit though, Processor: Do i get a new Haswell or go for an overclocked Ivybridge/Sandybridge? Plus i5/i7. Everyone went crazy for the 3570k..... However i am aware with the new consoles on the horizon will games be more optimized for multi-core in the future? thus making i5 no longer the clear choice for gaming. Plus i do like to do some video editing..... More cores the better? :) Oh will star citizen be optimized for more cores? Who knows..... best guesses please :) Price to performance.... If i buy a watercooling block for £60-£80 or spend that money on faster processor which is a more viable option? A faster chip or slower overclock? Not only that is an aftermarket cooler a necessity? Say if i didn't overclock would it still be a benefit (I'm assuming a longer lifespan of the chip)? The MEATY bit: The Graphics card!: Gtx 780! Yeah i went there! £500-£560ish Will that be enough? lol Well honestly its more about would it be to much? I know a 770 is pretty good and ALOT cheaper at around £300. I'm not exactly bothered by getting SLI (A single card is usually the better option unless you want your system looking.......... Graphicscardy? Graphicscardexy? Plus thinking of the budget..... I just want a top notch VR Star Citizen experience Max res/ no dropped frames or lag for the most immersion possible. Other graphics card suggestions are very welcome (Something AMD perhaps?)! Ram and storage: Okay...... here again I want good stuff: Erm How much ram? What kinda sticks? Like 2x8gb with the option of adding another 2x8gb later if i wanna do some overkill ram explosion? (Maybe for a video editing thing or two) How much difference in speed will my ram make? Cost and budget? Storage: SSD for OS (Windows 8) prob 128gb plus a 1tb main storage. Power Supply: Suggestions please :) wattage cost and such? (Think of the budget...... What am i up to now........ Oh dear.....) Epilogue: Okay I know this is a long post. Buying a rig is NOT something I'm going to take lightly :) It might not be for a while yet. We shall see.... Anyway this is my first post on the forum so i thought i would make it a good one. All advice greatly appreciated! I have built many a computer but this will be my first for myself! Don't want to screw it up, and i have to make sure mine is better than all my friends lol. This forum seems like an awesome place and I hope to become a more active part of it :)

(My personal opinion is that the Oculus Rift is going to change the way we game, maybe not immediately, but in a few years. Its looks really cool to me. At this point in time, I dont think I would want to use it for every game, and It will be a big change ill have to get use to.)

Want oculus Rift but doesn't like the numerous cables around it? What if your phone could turn itself into the Oculus Rift? Well, i shall present you.... The vrAse is a product that is on kickstarter and uses the same logic as the Oculus rift but the difference is that... it's modular! If you have an iPhone 5 or a Note 2 it doesn't care! you can use any without effort to get the exact model you need! And if you change your phone, you only need to change the Mounting mechanism (Wich by the way is very easy to change) , because the base is modular and fully adjustable -even the lens for each eye- to meet the person angle and measures. The vrAse already Supports the following devices: - Samsung Galaxy Note 2 - Samsung Galaxy S4 - Samsung Galaxy S3 - Sony Xperia Z - HTC One - iPhone 5 In my opinion things will be interesting in Augmented Reality and also through Real Time Images Streaming (like in the Nvidia's Shield). Another cool thing is, you can turn that old Smartphone into a dedicated VR machine! Imagine all the possibilities! Here's the link for the Kickstarter with a lot more of information about it: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2041280918/vrase-the-smartphone-virtual-reality-case I particularly can't wait to use one to play AirSoft with augmented reality! I can already imagine something such as an Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon in true FPS!

I've been using a single monitor setup for about a year now and am ready to upgrade. Simply, would it be worth waiting for the Oculus or diving straight in for a 7970 and going for a triple monitor setup with eyefinity? Obviously I've not had any experience with the Oculus although i have with eyefinity. In terms of games, i usually play a whole variety of games that range from most FPSs like BF3 and CS:GO to games such as awesomenauts and Guild wars. Currently using an i7 2700k which from benchmarks, doesnt seem to present any bottlenecking problems as far as i can see. Any help appreciated ME.. -Also, im currently using a 560ti which i'm not really wanting to upgrade unless going eyefinity - - money no object -

In an interview with Eurogamer at GameCom, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey revealed that Android is in the company's future plans. Although this may not be their next platform , he states that their developers ahve been working with Android for a while and it's the only mobile platform they're interested in. With mobile graphics improving as fast as it is, it may not be too long until they'll be powerful enough to offer a good experience on Oculus. Interestingly enough, Luckey has expressed his interest in Android and yet they seem to have no interest in next gen consoles. This is possibly due to restrictions by Microsoft and Sony imposed on 3rd party devices which require the companies involved to work closely with Microsoft and Sony. On the other hand, Android's open nature grants them easier access to the platform. The United States Patent and Trademark Office website shows that the application was filed on Feb. 14. The page also describes the goods and services RiftCon will provide: “Organizing exhibitions for cultural, educational, or entertainment purposes; organizing exhibitions in the fields of interactive entertainment, virtual reality, consumer electronics and video game entertainment industries for cultural or educational purposes; entertainment services, namely, arranging and conducting of competitions to encourage use and development of interactive entertainment, virtual reality, consumer electronics, and video game entertainment software and hardware.” Oculus VR has been showing off the Oculus Rift at conventions like CES and E3, and usually manages to impress anyone who puts it on. It recently announced its own publishing initiative and the Oculus Best Practices Guide (a collection of suggestions and basic guidelines for developing VR content), so it makes sense for the company to also have a convention to foster more development and community around the device. Earlier this month, EVE Online publisher CCP announced that it’s partnering with Oculus VR to co-publish its Oculus Rift exclusive set in the EVE universe: Valkyrie. I have been saving money for sometime for a new display. My two options... A. A 23" Acer H236HL BID 1080p IPS Monitor B. Development Kit 2 in March(if anything is announced) I know that on some websites the monitor is nearly 50% less than the Oculus(assuming that it the DV2 will cost $300) but I am interested for virtual reality. I plan on using either one in Star Citizen and I know for a fact the Star Citizen with Oculus will be great!!

so i see all the hype and all the people excited about the oculus, and i wonder if there are people out there who, like me, are totally not excited about it i'm fine with the pursue of new ways of interaction with the pc, but i don't see the oculus as a good one i have problems with both the idea of the oculus and the particular implementation we all know: - tracking head movements is an attempt of letting the user control the virtual body, but you can't really use that to look around, you will end up using the good old mouse, and having the motion tracking enabled will just feel weird and result in uncomfortable usage - you could say that devices are going to come that will allow the user to have a really good control over the virtual body, but you still won't be able to actually run around. there will always be this wall on the interaction side, it's kind of an "uncanny valley" for controls: the more natural they get, the less natural they feel, because your brain feels tricked - wires all of these considerations where imho, and i never tried the oculus myself, so yep

Not sure if this is in the wrong forums, or if it has been posted before (didnt find anything using the search though). Feber.se reports that BeAnotherLabs have started testing their idea "Machine To Be Another", which basically uses two rifts to swap the persons bodies. The two rifts and cameras are linked via laptops to send the video feed from person 1 to person 2s rift and vice versa. BeAnotherLabs ideas with this experiment is to learn and teach about empathy and intimacy, but they also have plans to use it in handicap care and research. ok, so I'm running an 8350 and 7970 in my rig right now. "castAR: bridging the physical world with the virtual worlds; 3D holographic like projections in AR, fully immersive environments in VR" Cast AR is essentially a set of AR glasses that allow you to interact with the world around you by projecting images specific to your glasses that can be manipulated with a "magic wand" made by both Jeri Ellsworth (a chip developer) and Rick Johnson (A veteran game programmer you may remember from valve) Their kick starter has recently blown up. They also have a VR attachment that unlike the oculus rift, is a clip on on the glasses making it much less bulky and thus more appealing to any user of a VR system. The price point for this being near over 100USD less than the rift makes it very appealing however only time will tell how each will sell. Hi guys, this is my first time posting. http://www.polygon.com/2014/7/4/5869841/navigate-real-life-in-third-person-using-oculus-rift-and-gopro-cameras This seems pretty cool as a proof of concept but I would like to see it be refined a bit more before it gets released. I can see this being used for some sort of media creation. What are your thoughts on this and it's possible applications?

some guys over at the university of Kaiserslautern have been testing the use of the oculus rift on board a roller coaster. In march of 2014 rollercoaster manufacturer mack rides who are also the owner of the german themepark europa park started a test project where they have a laptop on board of the coaster train hooked up to an oculus and on that oculus they have a simulation playing with e.g. a monster chasing the person on the train. there is also no motion sickness or dizzyness according to the students. they even we're able to slighty change the layout on the oculus rift because our body isn't that precise when it comes to the angle of a turn. sources: http://vimeo.com/97972573 http://www.vr-coaster.com/index.php

Hey there LTT-forums, first off, let me apolegize, if I put this into the wrong forum section, I don't know where else I can put it. And I am not an employee of anyone I will talk about, so I am NOT here to sell you something, I just wanna talk about an idea. Okay, so I watched the ControlVR video and it looked AWESOME! But then something struck me: Can't we make without hands, just a full fledged helmet, lets say, like the nervegear in SAO (Sword Art Online)? (pic below) You might think: "Would be cool, but how?" This is where it gets fun, because for that actually to achieve you would have to measure brainwaves. Can we do this? We actually can! There are a couple so called "Neuroheadset" brands out there, Emotiv is one of them and they can not only measure your brainwaves, you can also train the computer stuff, like pulling an object. I've had this idea grumbling in my head since Oculus started back in the days on Kickstarter and I watched their video, I watched some "review" videos when Oculus showed off their VR expierence to the public. These neuroheadsets aren't new, they exist for a couple of years now, I think the first time I heared of them was in 2011 in a video from Athene. Back then, it wasn't as good as it is nowadays. So, Oculus VR "Headset", well, just the screens in front of your eyes, combined with a Neuroheadset in one device... HELL, I think we actually would be able to get SAO IRL. IMO THAT would be the real deal! What do you guys think? If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
