Hey everyone - Welcome to my build log: Noob Machine 1.0 I finally bought my first PC part - Which means i now have to build my first PC! So follow along if you want to help me pick the right parts, and later guide me when i try to assemble it. - If helping is not your style, then grab some popcorns, sit back and relax, while you laugh at the many mistakes i'll make, during the process of building my first PC. The system is going to be used mainly for gaming & office use, and a bit of light video & photo editing. My goal is to make the pc as silent as possible, using components with temperature control, so the fans wont spin under light use. Since i'm not a heavy user i'm going with an ITX system, i like the small footprint, and i dont need the features that ATX systems offer, compared to ITX. I know there are smaller ITX cases like the Node 202 or the ones from SilverStone - But considering this is my first build, i'm going with the Nano S for a pleasent building experience, and parts compatibility. hello everyone, would certainly like some help and advice going about building a new rig in my old rig...LOL what i mean is iwould like to keep my old XPS 720 H2C 1st gen case,(pic below),and completely strip it out and build from scratch...my reason...well it's still an awesome case from waaaaay back really solid and quiet and also big,i think my main problem apart from fining the right mobo and components will be cable management as this case only opens from on side via a pull switch at the rear and from watching all of linus vids on YT i see most cases today seem to have a panel inside which helps separate the cables from the interior via rubber cable slots keeping these dreaded cables mainly out of view...no such luck with this case although i think i may be able to improvise once i have it as a shell,(am waiting on a new pre-build from overclockers.uk),which will be my main squeeze and this will merely be a project...i will leave some pics below of the case and the interior so maybe some of you can get an idea of what components i may need once i start the project...i am based in the UK,london so most if not all of my components will be purchased from this side of the water

So, I’m not currently a huge PC gamer(on an iMac) but I would like to get into it. I’m just a kid in college but I have allocated $1,200 for a new computer(w/o tax + shipping) that I can also use to study, watch youtube videos, work on excel, ect ect. I already have a great mechanical keyboard and a Razer Naga. I’ve been spending a lot of time on forums reading suggestions on what is good and what isn’t quite as great. I’m mainly attracted to value orientaded options enmeshed in quality and relaiblility. Basically, I’m looking for outstanding bang for the buck 1080p gaming with 16GB RAM, decent processing power, and awesome life of the system. This will be my main, only computer for at least 5 years. Mind you: I have a mechanical keyboard, mouse, and windows 7 key(to upgrade to Windows 10) I have a Micro Center near me, so I have decided to get my CPU, GPU, case, and SSD there. (or whatever else is a great deal) I really like g2 power supplies, from what I hear, but the prices have gone up (I suspect from the MSI Dream build that just ended) I don’t need 16GB of ram, but I really, really want it. All components must be available at Micro Center, Newegg, or Amazon. As for the future(1-2 years after built) I will be looking to getting a 4k monitor and another r9 390, depending on how into gaming I become(why I picked a 850w PSU) Does this build allow that? Also as for overclocking, I will not be overclocking immediately, but I will overclock. Here’s what I’m thinkin’ PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GsNFcf Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GsNFcf/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($219.99 @ Micro Center) CPU Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.50 @ Newegg) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($118.98 @ Newegg) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($79.99 @ Micro Center) Storage: Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($89.99 @ Newegg) Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 390 8GB SOC Video Card ($314.99 @ Micro Center) Case: NZXT S340 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($64.99 @ Micro Center) Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($119.99 @ Newegg) Wireless Network Adapter: Gigabyte GC-WB867D-I 802.11a/b/g/n/ac PCI-Express x1 Wi-Fi Adapter ($32.99 @ Amazon) Monitor: Acer R240HY bidx 60Hz 23.8" Monitor ($131.99 @ Amazon) Total: $1208.40 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-02-17 16:46 EST-0500 Basically, I want a great 1080p gaming rig that I can use for school, future work, and everything else in between. I want it to last and I want it to be of great value.

I need some advice on what to do for my first computer build. The most instense stuff I do is video and photo editing, premiere, after effects, photoshop. I also like playing Star Wars Battlefront! I want to get a 4k camera within the next year or two. So i will want to be able to edit in that, but for now it will mostly be 1080p. This computer will also be my everyday machine. YouTube, facebook, movies, music, work, school etc... I have been debating an AMD 8 core FX, or an I7- 4790k. What do you guys recommend? I love USB 3.0 so lots of those on the motherboard and or case. And if it had USB 3.1 on it, that would be cool to add some slight futureproofing to it for a while. You can get USB 3.1 as a PCI card though right? A couple pcpartpicker lists would help out a ton!! My budget is around $1000-$1200.

First time building a pc and I'm 99% sure that this is what I'm gonna go with. I want it for gaming only. And I know I don't "need" an i7 but I want to have something powerful for any other tasks I might need. And the cooler will be replaced by a liquid one when I decide to OC. Also, I'm only going with a 970 just until Pascal comes out, I don't want to spend a ton of money on a 980 ti , only to see a better gpu with half the price 6 months later. So, do you have any suggestions/recommendations on any of the parts? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rBpyMp

I've never water cooled and IHaveNoIdeaWhatImDoing.jpg First off, I want to know if it is at all recommended to liquid cool a PC that is going to be moving around a lot? I do take this to LAN's and other people's houses frequently. It has a carrying handle and i have a really nice bag for it, but I don't know if any amount of shock can damage a loop? (Some parts I'm thinking of getting: http://www.frozencpu.com/products/21608/ex-rad-654/Alphacool_NexXxoS_XT45_Full_Copper_Dual_80mm_Radiator.html?tl=g30c95s158 http://www.frozencpu.com/products/18955/ex-wat-246/Cooler_Master_Eisberg_Solo_Prestige_Water_Block_w_Intergrated_Pump_RL-EBSL-FLNN-R1.html?tl=g30c85s1703 http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16690/ex-res-390/EK_Dual_Bay_SPIN_Reservoir_w_Flow_Meter_-_Acetal_Black_CSQ.html#blank I am new to liquid cooling but I think I know what I need... Just want to get some advice from guru liquid coolers. I plan on getting this power supply so that I can save room in my PC, and give just a few more CM above my hard drive caddy as space to work with. http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX54410 Here are some pictures and rough measurements that I have to work with. Hope I can get some help! P.S. I know my computer is dirty I really need to install fan filters and clean it. Also, as a side topic - I'm considering making this case have proper air-flow when the cover is on and buying fan filters like this http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX52889 and custom installing them. What do you think?

I am going to buy a 5820k cpu and two ASUS 980 ti Poseidons. I want to watercool them with the swiftech H220-X. I don't know much about connectors, tubes, et cetera, and was looking for tubing and connector recommendations. Thank you for your help!

Good evening, after many months of deliberation i have decided to build my first pc, I have decided to use Intel's "New Hottness", Skylake. I have never overclocked, but i am open to the idea and would like to try. I have the case, PSU and Ram already, I just need a little advice on the CPU, Motherboard combination, I researched the Ram before purchasing and it is compatable with the board on my list. An upgrade to my GPU (660) and peripherals ( Xbox 360 controller, and some Dell OEM keyboard and mouse) will be coming soon but to begin with im building the core of my new system first so when i have the funds for a nice monitor and GPU my system will be able to use them to their fullest, or near fullest potential. That is a good idea, right? I will mostly use this build as a gaming rig, but it will double as a home computer as well and the extra front panel usb 3.1 and C connectors the Motherboard offers will be usefull, my future wife is not into reaching around the back of things to find the correct input...... Well here is the Pcpartpicker link, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/tVLQ4D I have a 240 GB 730 series Intel SSD for my games, BF4 and GTA V, and soon to be Battlefront, and a 1TB HDD with my OS on it, currently windows 7, but before completing the new build i will most likely upgrade to Windows 10, waiting to see how the newest update goes, and also to save myself the greif of no usb 3 support. As for the budget right now, $550 would be the limit, but going cheaper will just add more to the future GPU monitor upgrade, which is always nice. Any suggestions and advise would be very helpfull. Thank you

So I am a 1st time PC builder and my parts are here. BUT, I want to change my RAM to DDR4 from DDR3. That means I am going to have to get a new 't motherboard. I found two possible ones, but the flaw is I cannot find any reviews for them so I don't want to get a busted or bad one. The boards are: Gigabyte LGA1151 Intel H170 ATX DDR4 Motherboard GA-H170-Gaming 3 MSI Computer ATX DDR4 Motherboard H170 GAMING M3 If you can suggest one, make sure it is no more than $120 US// THANKS

I just recently got a dedicated gaming PC 3 weeks ago. I love everything about it, and I can't believe I used to game on a Wii U. I have gotten used to the small adjustments ( like rebinding keyboard controls) but anything more intensive ( like uncapping framrate in deadrising 3) is incredibly difficult to wrap my peasant brain around. I have done some research on modding ( google, youtube, LTT forums ) and have drawn the conclusion of, Steam workshop=garbage and nexusmods=win. I even have a list of nexusmods I would like to install. About 10 mods as well as skse, skyui, and patches for game and DLC. My first question is should I even try. It seems there will be a lot of troubleshooting. Also seems much more difficult than creating an .ini file (DR3 framrate uncap took me 2 days to figure out) Skyrim without mods can still be fun right, I'll be playing at 1080 with a great framerate. Second question, if I screw it all up I can just delete everything and reinstall right? (sorry if this is dumb question, feel free to insult my newbness) or am I risking more damage to other files or my hardware? Third question, Do I install all the mods I want right away, or one at a time. Does it just depend on preference. (I've seen this debated both ways) 4) Will having Win 10 os give me problems. Please any not trolling advice would be greatly appreciated. Hi everyone, so I'm looking for a new GPU for my desktop. I haven't kept up with developments since... forever, so I don't know what's good or bad in terms of model numbers. I have around a US$100 budget (± $20), and I'm not really looking for anything for gaming. I'd preferably want to go with an Nvidia GTX model. For most of the time I won't be doing anything intensive, but sometimes I may want to play older games or run CAD software / 3D simulations. Thanks for the help! Edit: I currently have a GTX 465 installed and it's causing some issues. I'm looking to upgrade to something with cooler temps than 85° at idle and preferably doesn't use a blower design. Thanks to everyone who's provided suggestions so far.

Hello my name is Sammy and I have been trying hard to learn how to make a computer and I have watched so many videos but I'm not sure what computer parts to buy. I've gone to pcpartpicker and such but I am still not sure what to do. My budget is 800-1,000 dollars and as linus says I would like to get the biggest bang for my buck. If you guys have any suggestions on what is needed I would greatly appreciate it, thanks.

So lately I've been doing some research on PC parts as I was tempted to order an i7 4790k when I went on to an American website and noticed the i7 6700k is only $419 (£280) which is an absolute bargain, however if you were to buy it in the UK it would set you back £350 ($523) which is shocking considering the 4790k is £250. I want to know if there is any way i can pay for American prices and why there is such a high price difference.

Whats the difference between the Corsair RM550 and the Corsair CS550M? I know the CS550M is cheaper, but is the RM550 better? Its weird because its has the same power.

Hey, just a bit of a preface, this is my very first time building a computer and I'm trying to not spend too much i.e. not much more than my current part picker list (BUILD). Any help is greatly appreciated! 1. Budget & Location $1200 USD 2. Aim Gaming 99.99% of the time and should be the focus of the build, watching youtube the other 1%. I am trying to get as close to a "run everything at ultra" build without spending too much money. 3. Monitors I plan on using on one monitor although I don't have it picked out yet ( help with this would be appreciated as well as I am aware this affects gameplay) **Dosent need to be factored into the pricing roughly $180 budget for monitor** 4. Peripherals I have Razor Naga from a friend, and a few keyboards lying around. 5. Why are you upgrading? I just want a gaming pc to play with my friends and teammates. 6. Notes&Questions Just as a recap I made my best attempt at a build with the research that I've done and would like to make sure that everything is capatable and Im getting the best performance with my money. I heard this thing called bottlenecking, will my GPU and CPU experience this? I am a little interested in overlocking, but 1) Can I overlock the GPU and CPU independantly? 2) If so is it worth it to overlock only the GPU to avoid CPU damage? Thank you in advance for any help I know there are a lot of questions but again its greatly greatly appreciated! -Zion

Hi will 650 w psu be enough for this build while all OC't? I will be so happy for a answer

Hey there everyone, so i am having a bit of a dilemma. I just built my first PC and i'm getting no "signal detected" on my monitors. I have tried numerous tech forums such as toms hardware. No help has been given. All the fans on the GPU and CPU cooler are working, as well as the LED on the cooler. My keyboard lights up as well. The weird thing about the keyboard, if I have the GPU power to the PSU plugged in (both cords) the keyboard will no longer be lit, but if i remove 1 of the cords, it lights up. My specs: Asrock 990FX Killer Fatal1ty am3+ Motherboard AMD FX-8350 XFX Radeon R9 390 8GB GDDR5 GPU 16 GB ram 1600 Corsair H100i GTX CPU cooler Samsung Evo 850 500gb SSD Fractal Design define R5 Corsair AX860 *860 watt psu* Razer blackwidow keyboard Razer deathadder mouse (2) HP Pavilion 25xw LED monitors. I want to mention, i assembled everything in the case before testing it and have since then gone to the breadbox method. I honestly don't know what to do. I have done the following: Swapped HDMI cables Tried DVI to hdmi adapter Swapped monitors removed CMOS battery & switched the jumper removed the ram & left 1 stick in. checked the CPU, its in correctly GPU is in the 1st PCIE slot (have moved it to others, still didn't work)
