Hi, TL;DR: Is it really necessary to ground a patchpanel or, if building a networking rack, the entire rack and why? I recently discovered that the supposed "telephone jacks" dotted around our house are actually wired with cat.6a cabling, all arriving in the attic and most sitting there unterminated. I would like to hook them all up to a switch, as to take advantage of our new fiber connection without having to always rely on WiFi. Since I have never done anything involving putting together hardware I spent quite some time researching what ist needed, and stumbled upon patch panels. Thus my idea is to terminate all these (8) wires into a patch panel in the attic and then use short patch cables to hook them up to a switch and maybe put both in a small 6U rack as a means of keeping things tidy. But during my research I have stumbled upon various internet forums (all in German, sorry) claiming that I need to ground the rack and all components within, lest I risk not only damaging my components but having life-threatening 240V on the outside. I can't help but wonder why this is supposed to be necessary though, because was under the impression, that all components are grounded via their respective plugs? I have also never noticed anybody saying this during home network upgrade videos (eg. here or here). But even if I didn't use the rack (this is after all going into the attic that serves only as a storage space), I noticed that even patch panels not designed for rackmounting seem to have some sort of grounding cable (see for example here). Is it necessary to connect that to anything in this sort of home network? And if it is - why? If I'd be terminating the cables into rj-45 and plugging them directly into the switch, I wouldn't be grounding anything either. So what is the difference? Thanks in advance!

Budget (including currency): $US 1200 willing to go to 1500 if need be Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: HD gaming Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): all new from scratch. Don't need a monitor or keyboard an mouse just the pc its self. Not sure what is best to put in it so whatever any of u think would work best for a gaming PC. Thank u so much in advance if any of u can help me with this. *EDIT* Will do a pre build if anyone could show me some good ones. Alienware has some but they want almost $1700 for a pc that is not the basic build. But please let me know even of it is Alienware I'm open to ideas

Hi Everyone! (This is my first time posting on the ltt forums so please excuse me if i do something wrong) In January I got gifted my first ever PC and I love it. I've never been able to game before so its really helped me. But after having used it for two and a half months, I still love it, but i'm starting to wonder what my next move should be in getting more performance out of it. The specs are: AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Nvidia GTX 1050 ti 1 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200 MHz RAM Asus PRIME A320M-K Motherboard Ace 500W PSU Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD This system is running Windows 10 and i'm mainly looking to get higher fps on Forza Horizon 4 and Star Wars Battlefront 2. Also, my budget isn't huge but price isn't the focus of this post, i just want to know what should be the next logical step in upgrading this system. Thanks so much for your help in advance, YourMothereee

Hi there! This is my first build with zero experience. I checked compatibility for the MSI GeForce GTX 1070 and ROG STRIX B550-F motherboard/Corsair 4000D Airflow case. I have fitted everything Other than this Graphics card. I have repeatedly tried to slot the card in but it will not click. I am afraid to press down much harder as I cannot see and I am sure I’ve not aligned the card properly. When I aligned the screw on the left it rests slightly on the memory on the right side of the graphics card. Removing the base on the case would help so much to see, yet on stop down tutorials I haven’t found one that removes the case base. Sorry for the dumb questions, this is embarrassing as hell. Do I pull back the graphics card clip before inserting? I’ve tried inserting with the upright too. If anyone has info that could help I’d appreciate it very much

Hello and good day... im thinking of implementing "due to my fathers request" an upgrade to our small family business network. now i an new to networking outside of basic ISP to switch to PC networking and would like more experienced users to look at what im thinking of implementing if its viable. please take note that this is a small family business and buying expensive network gear might be a little stretch to our budget. this is the said network layout. Now for my explanation on why i would like to set it up this way. first is the price... with this im only looking at around $500 - 600 worth of equipment 2nd is using pfsense. ive been looking for a way to make it so that we have guess wifi and employee wifi. basically making the guess wifi a timed connection and also having vouchers later on if needed. 3rd is later on im also thinking of using the 1u as a sort of database for our business. Tracking item stock and stuff maybe even using it as a CCTV video storage just to save money. not sure how i would implement that but im sure ill find a way to jank it up. now im asking if this setup is viable and OR any better alternative for my use case. Feedback is much appreciated. Thank you. edit: reason why im using 2 switch on different floors is because there are still some area in our building that isnt being used. but im just thinking ahead just incase we do need wifi/lan connection in those area... or should i just trow the 2 switch idea and just run lines from first floor to all the different areas of our building... XD

Hi everyone! First post on here. I'm a noob who just finished my first 'proper' build. Everything is going fine, with the exception of the following issue.... Every time I start up/wake up my computer, the high-pitched noise that can be heard in the video I've linked is audible after about 5 minutes. After it starts, it doesn't stop/go away until I put my computer to sleep. It's a high-pitched, inconsistent noise that reminds me of the read/write sounds that hard drives make. It can be heard most loudly in the area around the CPU. I have 16 GB of RAM and one M.2 SSD and one SATA 3 SSD installed (no hard drive). It's loud enough to be audible when I'm sitting at my desk about a metre away and the case is sealed. Bizarrely, I can hear the noise even more loudly through my headphones when I plug them into the 3.5mm jack and don't play any audio through them. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what might be causing it and what I might do to fix it. I'm worried that it's something serious that I should be looking into. Budget (including currency): $500 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Warzone, Cyberpunk 2077, AC Valhalla, Video editing. Other details I also just bought a Aorus B550 elite V2 so hopefully it all works. I still have a few days to return them if not there was just a really good sale and I had to jump on it. I want to upgrade my GPU and power supply (power supply first bc its a white and I was just told it could fry my system even though its a 750W) I want to play games at 120fps or higher. My question I guess is should I wait to install my new parts until I can get a GPU or should I put the new MOBO and CPU in now? P.S. The power supply I'm going to buy is the Corsair RMx (2018) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply. Just incase that mattered to anyone.

Ok so here's the story. For about a year or 2 I have been running my pc with 20gb of ram 2 2gb sticks of 1600 ddr3 from corsair and 2 8gb of 1866 ddr3 of hyperx. I was looking at my speeds and it's been throttling them I think to around 1200 I'm not quite sure how they work it's reading around 600 on cpuz and it mentioned doubling them?.... I wanted to remove the 2gn sticks and leave just the 16gb for a hopeful increase in speeds and leave it open for a hopeful upgrade. If I leave the sticks in formation c2 c2 h8 h8 it boots like normal. If I remove the corsair memory and align them as seen in videos at 0 h8 0 h8 I see board start but it never goes to the bios screen so I can change things it just stays black. I'm assuming it's not posting?..... I'm very unsure of how to proceed. I've just been replacing the array until now that I'm off for the weekend. Any help is appreciated.

Budget (including currency): Quite flexible ~$2000 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Heavily modded Minecraft, Factorio, a bit of Overwatch, some OBS recording/streaming, and plenty of assorted programs. Other details https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Somebody32x2/saved/p4Pfyc Upgrading from: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-7775-Ultra-Desktop/dp/B07BMDMDMB This is my first build, but I have done some research. I have not bought the graphics card yet so I can still switch cards. I'm trying to get a 6700xt for close to msrp but I can get one for $1000. I want at least 75 fps. Thanks!

Budget (including currency): My budget would be around $3,000 dollars, in my currency it is about $60,000 pesos, but if it can be any less than that without dropping performance I'll gladly accept it. Country: México Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mainly for videogames and to listen to music; I don't expect to play heavy games but if that was the case, I would love that it ran it very smoothly. To name certain titles: GTA, Minecraft, Ark, Portal and valve stuff and new games that could appear Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I want to play stuff at 60 fps, the resolution could be anywhere between 1080p and 4k (I guess), I also consider myself an amateur in the audiophile world, so I plan to add the sound card Creative Labs Sounblaster AE-9, would it be a good idea to spend around $300 in a sound card even though I am a newbie? To add more details, I am quite a fan of AMD, but there wouldn't be any problem if I switched to Intel anyways, just tell me an equivalent of the MOBO; In the power supply I'd love to have a seasonic but if you find another that may be better that will be okay, so, in conclusion, if you think of a better piece for the same price or cheaper piece with the same power just say it. So, my build would go like this (if you know where I can spend less money please tell me and also mention with what cheaper (but not worse) component it would be good to replace it): Processor: Ryzen 7 5800x $502 (all the prices are going to be in dollars) Mother Board: Asus ATX ROG Strix X570-E $352.79 Graphics card: Nvidia rtx 3080ti (when there are available, I read somewhere that the stimated price would be 'round the $1000, but I'm not sure, so I'll skip it, do you think this graphic cards suits the best my other components? RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 3200MHz 2x8gb total 16gb $136.73 Heatsink: Noctua NHU12S $152.14 I wasn't too sure about this one since I didn't knew where to choose from, but I've read Noctua is a pretty solid brand of heatsinks; my brother says a water cooled heatsink would be better, but you tell me. Storage: SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 500gb $125.87 and a HDD Seagate Barracuda 3 TB $96.09 Case: Corsair ICUE 5000x (or 4000x) $204.99 Power supply: Seasonic Focus Gold 750w $125.82 Monitor (only one): BenQ Mobiuz Ex2510 $318.25 Sound card: Soundblaster AE-9 Creative Labs 332.67 Total: $3347 Total without soundcard and witout graphics card: $2015. Note: as I said many times before, I'm just a newbie, but I need help to know what is better for me. Thank you beforehand!

Budget (including currency): 200$ Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: FORZA HORIZON 5, COD vanguard, Battlefeild2042 Other details Existing parts: core I5 9400f corsair iCUE H115 dual 280mm Radeon red devil RX570 MSI mpg Z-390 gaming plus GEIL super LUICE 2x8GB WD blue 4TB EVGA 500W1 I don't know what I should do to upgrade my pc, it ran fine and loaded all the games I wanted just fine but when I started playing the new releases of late 2021 and soon to be 2022 everything took a dive, loading times stayed the same but graphics quality just dropped, I could run high graphics quality on FH4 but on FH5 for me to not drop frames like crazy I have to put it on medium with really low render distance. I know I should use and M.2 SSD for storage but I like the large storage. I would really like some help deciding/figuring out if I should get two of the same RX570 and run crossfire or try and sell this card and buy a newer card, or if I should upgrade my CPU considering it an I5 but I can overclock it a little and get good performance out of it. I watched some guided before writing this post but none of them really answered my questions you I wanted to ask real people

Hello everyone, so about a week ago I noticed that my PC was making a coil whine like sound whenever I would stress my computer playing games, etc. I never had any GPU coil whine before, so I took out my GPU and turned my PC back on and the same noise would happen. It sounds like an electric crackling, squealing and it still occurs even when I’m not under heavy load, it’s just WAY louder under load. After taking out the GPU and still hearing the sound, I tried turning off all fans for a few seconds and the noise still happend so I knew it wasn’t my fans or my GPU. Only thing I could think of after that was my power supply, so I ordered a new EVGA 600w gold psu and it came in today. Took my old one out, put the new one in, started it up, and THE NOISE IS STILL FUCKING HAPPENING?? Wtf could this be. Sounds identical to coil whine or a broken fan bearing, But I’ve Stopped fans, replaced the PSU, and I know for a fact it’s not my GPU. WTF? Is it my motherboard? Bad capacitor maybe? I’m pissed because I just spent 80$ and waited 5 days just to find out it wasn’t my PSU. I’m not the most tech savy, but when I try to localize the sound it seems to be coming from my CPU? I’ve done research and I know it’s not possible for the CPU to make a noise like that, but that’s where it sounds like it’s coming from. Any info helps, this shit is really stressing me out. I Can Take a Video Of The Sound If Needed.

Just did a motherboard swap on my rig. Put in a z590 gaming plus from MSI and a 10700k. Previously to this my computer was running fine. Im a pretty big noob and have no clue what im doing. My RTX tuf card has a red LED ive never seen before. Google suggests its a seating issue (which is why i put it in the 2nd pcie slot, since the first slot's tab wasnt clicking) And i get no display. Everything lights up no matter the slot its in but i get no display and the light stays on (Website wont let me attach photos, for some reason but the led is right above the pcie connector...)
