okay i'm in need of a storage server and i was trying to decide between plex server or a nas and i think i'll go with a plex server (unless people can convince me otherwise) as I need a place that allows fast and ready access to not only video's but pictures too (wife is an artist/photographer) and plex server offers that plus it has fire tv support which is a necessity. in the far flung future at most 4 people will be using the server itself but currently its 2-3 and almost never all at the same time. anyway i have found a number of servers on ebay that seem to be okay and will do the job except they almost always have no hard drive rails or front covers. (i already have 2 hard drives (do need to get redundancy eventually but can't afford new drives atm). Example links bellow Ebay 1 Ebay 2 I have built pc's almost my entire life (since early 90's) and that i have no problem with, but I have never owned or even really looked at server racks before so i'm cautious when it comes to just buying one I think is okay, as I don't want to waste money by making a rookie mistake. What should I look out for when it comes to server racks (i'm mostly looking at 2u and above) I don't want to spend too much money on this, i'm thinking about £120 or less. Yes i'm british. what controllers do i need to be aware of as at the min i'm using 2tb and less drives. (again i'm new to this so be kind) and is there any video's or blog posts i can read to be less noobish? On a side note i have a metric fuck ton of old hard drives i need to compile onto the server so some form of hot swap would be very helpful. I do have a usb hot swap device but damn its slow. I have seen some servers use 2 psu's so i want to check to see if thats cause of redundency or cause the server itself needs 2. spec wise i'm looking at 8-16gb ram, xeon e3-1240 or better, thanks for any and all help I just don't want to screw up.

So I turned on my computer yesterday to find that Asus Aura Sync wasn't working. The motherboard lights were on color cycle, while the rest of the RGB was either on red or rainbow. The motherboard option went missing from Aura. I updated Aura, to no avail. Then I reset my bios configuration, although putting my boot device back, which seemed to work. But when I turned it on again this morning, Aura's option went missing again. What might be going on? Also, if it helps, one time I turned on my computer and the CPU was reading negative temps. Could my motherboard be on the way out?

I finally got my first PC build to work (had some problems with my previous mobo you can read my previous post for more about that ) and now would like to overclock my CPU a tiny bit. Currently with no OC just using QuickCPU I am getting an all-core speed of around 4638MHz at around 1V and with core temps of around 34°C with one core usually at 35°C 60% of the time and at 34°C 40% of the time while the rest go down to 33°C from time to time but mostly stay at 34°C. I was wondering if anyone could recommend me like what core multiplier I should try out and what kinds of settings should I use. Current specs MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS Intel I5-9600k 2x8GB 3600mhz G.SKILL ram Chieftec 700W ATX-PSU GTX 1060 6GB ( Currently planning on getting a RTX 2080 )

Hi guys, Before anyone gets angry at me; I am no tech genius, last year I built my first pc and my pc knowledge is still... meh. So, I have been seeing a lot of news out there for the RTX 30 series (which I am absolutely hyped for) and I understand all this news is mostly just 'rumours' and 'estimations'. However, let's say they actually get announced this month and released in June. I have an 'asus rog z390-e gaming' MB which has a PCIE 3.0 GPU port. Will this be able to take a RTX 30 series, meaning, will they switch to PCIE 4.0 with no backwards compatibility or will it still use PCIE 3.0. I know that probably none of you know for sure as it hasn't been announced yet, but what is your best guess? Also, I know I can't run the new 10 series intel CPU's (I cry). but with the new RTX 30 series coming out, I'm trying to see if I will have to upgrade my CPU, MB, and GPU or just CPU and GPU (my current CPU is too underpowered i5 8600K and would upgrade to i7 9700K) to run a RTX 30 series - if compatible) Hope this question makes sense

So im trying to install windows on my pc from a usb drive, but when i select it on boot override the monitor screen just blinks and nothing else happens. I have been looking around the bios to see if theres something that might be preventing it from booting but I cant find anything. I also re installed the windows media creation tool on the usb drive like tree times now just in case it was corrupted or something but no luck.

- Need help with a parts list - Never built a pc before, but it seems like gaming/streaming pc are really great for 3d renderings. - I'm looking to build something around $600 - $1000 USD - I would like for it to have room for future upgrades... so that it can last at least a decade or longer. - Or - Is it better to build a decent one right off the bat and just replace it down the line? - Planning to use it mainly for my art and metalsmith designing, 3d printing, cnc/laser printing, web browsing, video editing, and maybe get into leisure gaming and streaming. - is it possible to use a flat screen tv as a monitor? Bc i have two stored in a closet... but I guess eventually I would want a pc monitor? - I'm not really sure what OS to use, open to suggestions, but i'm guessing windows? - I have plans for the computer parts to be mounted and displayed on a wall instead of a tower... any opinions for, or against this?... - We have our phone devices and the only pc is a laptop that's a 2009 MacBook Pro for over 10 years now. I've replaced the SSD and RAM... but it's just about time to upgrade to something more substantial. So yeah... that's the extent of my pc build experience. - I've been watching youtube videos to learn how to build a pc, (that's how I discovered this forum) and I've been on pcpartspicker.com to play around with the parts combinations, but it's just a little overwhelming still. - Like, how do you know if all the parts will work and look aesthetically pleasing together if I am planning to mount it openly on a wall in my studio? - Are there any important questions that I should be asking?

So I'm finally building my first Gaming/streaming/editing rig. I already own the m.2 (plan on getting larger one later),Graphics card, and case. I'm concerned with comparability issues will the ram fit under my cooler? Also par picker says "he MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC ATX AM4 Motherboard has an additional 4-pin ATX power connector but the Cooler Master MWE Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply does not. This connector is used to supply additional 12V current to the motherboard. While the system will likely still run without it, higher current demands such as extreme overclocking or large video card current draws may require it." gday lads. Looking for some people to play hearts of iron 4 with. Not looking for players who are all about focusing on division structures, and what not, i guess you could call them hardcore players. I play hoi4 for the history and alt. history. I'm not too good at all the in depth division planning, and the stats and so forth. Wanna round up a few players one night, open up a discord and have a round of role playing hoi4 All experience levels welcome, from beginners to experts, as long as you're willing to have fun and play fairly

Hi, I have a problem. I currently have an old FX 6300 paired up with a gigabyte 970a ds3p mobo. I would like to get a new CPU to pair it up with my new RX 480. I am currently low on cash so my two choices are the FX 8350 which wouldn't force me into buying new motherboard and RAM or an i3 such as 6100 or 7100 which is also quite cheap and it opens the door to an i5 or an i7 in the future ( I wouldn't be able to afford RAM and motherboard all at once though). I'd also like to point out that I'm not into overclocking, I only know the basic stuff about computers and I really don't want to mess up my hardware.

I just wrote out a whole introduction paragraph for this thing and hit the trash can when I went to turn off italics. Linoos plz fix. Okay here's a bunch of questions I have: On older pre-built cases is there a way to tell what each case input plug corresponds with without deconstructing the front of the case? How many HDD power connections does a standard EVGA power supply come with? Is it possible to build a sleeper build in a Windows XP era case using modern hardware? If a mini ITX case says that you can only use GPUs up to 190mm long if you want to use an HDD, and your GPU is 191mm, would it still fit? (The case is the RVZ02) When I use PCPartPicker, it says that certan H110m motherboards need a BIOS update before use with Kaby Lake S CPUs (Pentium G4560). Does this only occur with LGA 1150 socket H110m motherboards, or do LGA 1151 socket motherboards need the bios update as well? I'll be back with more questions tomorrow, I'm just tired and want to get some sleep soon. PC build link: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/tdorval23/saved/Dh4GXL

hi everyone my first build and i have lots of questions. but here are the basics first Budget & Location: Anywhere from 1,000-1500 depending on what im getting out of the pc. Im located in Orlando fl, usa . Aim: Mostly looking for a gaming pc. However i do some video editing and photo editing nothing crazy just hobbyist stuff. Monitors: Just one for now but I would like the option of adding another in the future Peripherals: uhhh does this include braided cables cuz i def want those Why are you upgrading? mainly looking for more power in my games and im sick of playing with my graphics settings on my 960m trying to get the right balance between frames and graphics. few questions i also have im avoiding water cooled as a first build just cuz i dont want to make my first build so complicated however if you u guys suggest its not so hard ill give a shot next question is the a cool case on the market that feature glass panels like the corsair crystal 460x but with a mother board 90 degrees up ...i like the idea of having braided cables draping down like some type of predator pc lol, but i love the all glass design from the corsair ... i think thats all my questions thanks for any and all help ps i have taken apart pc's before and put them back together.. so im not a total noob but none the less treat me like one so i can learn more.

Yes, I took time to read the top 3 psu topics, and watched some youtube videos online which some stated that: most of the time power consumption would not reach half of your PSU Pcpart suggested 850w, image below from cooler master recommaned 1000W, and they listed the 1200 W PSU. HOW many WATTS PSU DO I need? Linus said: Not the bigger the Better. Power eficiency matters? What high quality PSU brand or modle suggestion do you have? (NO BUDGET) Also I chose the x62 280mm cooler, looks like the Phantek EnthooEvolv T/P ATX mid-tower have a hard time to hide the 280mm on top (It exposed and covered the top part of motherboard) ? I really like the x62, should i place it at front or jsut get a 240mm instead? THanks for reading, these are the concers i have so far. Juice29 posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Had a few Pre-built PC's and finally decided to build my own! After a few weeks of Research and about 300 Youtube videos later I would love it if you knowledgeable lot would take a look over my specs and give me some feedback on what I've picked, ie. So I'm new to building PC's and I wanna see if there is any kind of updates or changes I should make before ordering the parts. I plan on using it for games like Battlefield 1 and others like that at Max settings. Not 4k though. I would be ordering from the south where I live. My price range is about $1000-$1500 Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor Corsair H60 54.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ASRock Z270 Pro4 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive Seagate 500GB 2.5" 5400RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive Asus GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Dual Series Video Card NZXT S340 (White) ATX Mid Tower Case The OS is Windows 10 pro and I was going for a white/red color scheme. Any comments would be appreciated

Fellow Techies, I hope y'all are doing well. I am new to this area of LLT and new to Programing. I watched a few videos of people doing so serious $h!t with coding and programming and got a little bit of an itch now. I am a full time student and stay decently busy but I get a couple of hours free here and there. Where and what is good place to start learning. What is the difference between coding and programming? I am not great at teaching myself but I can do so if given lots of free time. If someone can at least point in the right direction I will be most grateful. Thanks a bunch.

I have spent nearly 2 months carefully researching PC Parts, knowledge, specs, other builds, and guides on YouTube and without stalling any further I think I might have crafted the perfect "I'm new to PC gaming and want to hit the ground running" and Twitch stream Build. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YPpWPs So I bought my KEYBOARD,MOUSE, AND PAD I have a monitor in mind, a webcam, and capture card I'm going for an elgato HD60 pro. Keep in mind I am going to be streaming 720p 60 fps on twitch while 1080p 60 fps gaming, also want to get into video editing and light content creation. This build is honestly a dream build for me and its in my opinion ABOVE average enthusiast level! Before I start purchasing my parts I would just like to know if there is anything that can be tweaked or adjusted for more optimization... do I have good brand choices? Do I need to add more case fans? ect, I'm very exited and since I got a lot of advice by reading the forums Id love to get the green light for my very first PC build. Cheer's

I have just recently gotten my first tower PC from iBuypower. It is the BB921. (here for BestBuy link ) I was thinking about getting another GTX 1060 but I have never had a tower PC and have no clue if my PC can even handle another GPU like this without updating other things. If I want more power, should I try updating my GTX 1060 to a GTX 1070/80? If a dual GPU system would be better, how would I go about updating it? I am really just a noob who needs help. I have a few photos of my motherboard and current GPU if that would be useful. EDIT: I have 3 1080p Monitors! GPU intensive things I do: VR w/ HTC Vive and misc. other games. (PS:I am also considering a 4k monitor)

Heyo newbie incoming! Im in a bit of a pinch here, i really need to upgrade my cpu for school since there is going to be quite some heavy workloads like 3D rendering and potentially huge PSD files and so going on. I've been rocking a Pentium G3240 for about 4 years now i think and before that just other pentiums, i feel as if i probably should upgrade by now since i use my computer just about every day for commissions and studying. I'd also love to be able to play games above low settings :c As mentiond before, my current CPU: Intel Pentium G3240. The two ones i've been ogling for a while: Core i5-4460 and Core i7-4790. I would naturally go for the Core i5-4460 any day otherwise since it's 220$ compared to the 370$ for the Core i7-4790. Im not on a specific budget or anything but it'd be great if i was able to spend less than necessary since moneys a bit tight! *Edit* System specs MBD: MSI B85M-E45 CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G3240 @ 3.10GHz RAM: 12GB GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 PSU: Cooler Master 500W STORAGE: 120GB SSD & 2TB HDD CASE: Some Cooler Master Case
