So today i heard weird noises in my pc case as if it's a fan making a buzzing noise showing that i thought a fan was being hit to a wire or something so i tried to see if the issue was any of the CPU, GPU, Case fans and no none of them seem to be the issue. One weird thing that happens is tho that when i put my finger on the side panel or unscrew one or two screw's of the tempered glass it's gone. when i take the temperes glass completely off and i shake my case gently it's back. but when i put my finger on the BACK of the psu or the area around it or even the top of my case when i touch it a push gently with my finger it's gone. and it also happens when my case has only 3 legs on the desk for example but the third one (the front one) is in the air loose. It happens when my pc case is in weird positions is what (like moved to the right a little bit or moved to the left a little bit or even tilted to the right i tried tilting it to see if the noise would be there with the tempered glass on and yep it was there. I tried taking all the cables off my pc and take it for a cleanup and now the noise is completely gone with tempered glass and side panel on or off. Is it my PSU fan? I mean would a bad fan noise go away just if i put my finger on the steel on the back of the psu or on the panels of the case? i don't get what's going on and i'm scared because warranty says it's not a PSU issue and they refused me to go get it checked because "There is no reason to" My PSU and case are coolermaster MWE v2 bronze 650W and gigabyte C200 tempered glass case. Update : I asked a computer shop near me and he said that the PSU fan won't calm down if i touch the case with my finger. VIBRATION does that but not a bad fan. So is it vibration ? i mean now that i took the cables off and reconnected them and the noise is completely gone i don't know what it is anymore..

Hello, I received a Fenda F770X as a gift. Sadly the noise is quite bad. At lower volumes it dilutes the sound and when nothing is playing it is more noticeable than my PC fans. As it is a gift and that the giver often comes around I cannot replace it - I would find it insulting and frankly I am grateful for the gift nonetheless. Can I somehow fix the noise? (by internal modding) I am willing to put the time into it... Thanks

Hi, I hope this is the correct topic. This is the sound my pump makes when I turn my pc on. It doesn’t do it every time sometimes it’s quieter. It’s really worrying me though as people are saying the pump is broke. I’ve ran cinebench and my temps are 60C and no higher. I’ve played games and it runs very stable. That noise goes after 2 seconds and then my AIO is pretty much silent. Is there a way to fix this or if not is my pc safe? IMG_3915.mov

Hi! Ive been having an issue with a rattling sound coming from my computer a couple of days now (mightve been there for longer but i just recently discovered it when i moved the computer to a more silent room) and im very unsure what is causing it and if it is causing harm to my system. The rattling/ticking sound in question from the source where the sound is the loudest/most noticble (The sound im referring to is the ticking/rattling sound, almost sounds like a HDD. There was no HDD in the system when this was recorded) When this clip was recorded the system was idle , fans on low rpm, hdd unplugged and no programs running and the sound was most audible directly behind the cpu. Its almost like it is coming from the cpu itself or atleast from the motherboard area around the cpu! First i thought it was my hdd , so i unplugged it and the noise was still there. Its also not from the PSU (Corsair RM850 850W) Then i tried the fans on my cpu cooler (Noctua DH-15) , first just one of them then the other then both of them, sound still there. The CPU is a 9900k running default clock and it is placed in a ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-F GAMING, S-1151 motherboard with 16gb of Corsair Vengance LPX 4000MHz The gpu ,if it matters, is a MSI Geforce 3080 gaming z trio. The temperatures are ~30c when idle in a 26c ambient room and during load in most games that i play it ranges from 50-65c. I know the sound is very similar to that of a hdd , but as i mentioned above i tried disconnecting it and the sound still persisted! Seeing as the temperatures is normal and im not getting any bluescreens or random shutdowns i would guess that the noise isnt harmful , but it is very noticeable when the system is idle and its starting to become an annoyance. Any ideas on what it could be or what is causing it ? Thanks!

Hello. I just bought NZXT C1200 Gold PSU. When I finally assembled the computer, I was very upset. This PSU has terrible coil whine noise. It is interesting that coil whine is present when the system is not under load. For example, while surfing in the browser. Another interesting observation is that if I boot Windows in safe mode - there is no coil whine. Also the whine goes away if Ienter the motherboard BIOS. Another observation, the noise is only present when the PSU is paired with my new AMD Radeon 6900 XT graphics card. If I put in my old 5700 XT video card the coil whine goes away. I tried to do software undervolt in the driver itself, it did not solve the problem. If I start a game or something else that loads the card, the problem seems to disappear, or I can't hear it because the fans on the video card are working. Also, there is a strange click when turning on and off the PSU, similar to the start of a fan. They are present both with Zero Fan Mode and without it. I don't know what to do. I will no longer be able to change the video card, because I bought it last Christmas and the deadline for returning it to the store has already passed. It was because of the new video card that I was forced to change the PSU. I can still return the PSU to the store, but I'm not sure that will solve my problem, and at this price, I can't see anything better right now with ATX 3.0 compatible. It probably won't work to exchange for the same model either, because they are no longer available.

Hey Guys, earlier, I opened up my GPU to clean it and to put new thermal paste on it. Now after reassembly it makes this horrible noise under load (check attached file). I checked the fans, it's not them. Any idea what that could be or how I could fix it? The card has never coil whined before. Can that just randomly start? Also this seems a lot louder than just normal whine. Snapchat-1405550979.mp4

I have encountered this issue just a few days ago, and it annoys me because my graphics card never did this sound, and yes I know that it is not a bad thing but I think I have the answer to the problem, but I need to confirm. Ok so there is a noise background every time I switch on my logitech music system that is pretty similar to the coil whine but one week before today, this sound became more noisier. That lead me to think that the problem is in the power supplied by the psu. And also I can't found if there is also noise from the psu. What do you think, GPU or PSU? Recommendations for new psu if that is the case (100-150 euros)? Graphics card: Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2070 O8G Gaming 8GB GDDR6 Power suply: Corsair VS650 80 Plus CP-9020098-EU By the way I'm really sorry for my english if its bad, not my native language.

I am totally new to sound. I have been using USB MIC and Boya (with USB adaptor). I record my voice while screen recording. I should had gone with Audio Interface but I got this mixer without XLR MIC. I don't have XLR mic. I have Boya BY-M1 mic. I got two adapters (TRS connectors). I plugged in simple headphone audio and Boya mic pins in mixer and used phones. I could hear audio/sound from laptop but I could not listen to my voice from MIC. I turned 'Gain' and 'Level' in first column and turned phones knob. I can listen to my voice but really low but a ready loud hiss and background noise. I tried "To Phones" and "To main mix" together and separate but no success. Also when I check "Listen to this device" from mic settings only them i hear my voice. I wanted to record my voice and monitor it at same time. I am using screen capturing software or sometimes audacity. Did I make mistake by going with mixir? Should I had gone with audio mixer like Focusrite? Am I doing it wrong? Is XLR microphone a must to get clean voice?

So I was planning to buy a MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI Micro ATX but sudden came across deal breaking feature on Asus TUF series motherboards (https://www.asus.com/in/Motherboards/TUF-GAMING-B550M-PLUS-WI-FI) called AI Noise-Cancelation (https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1045366) which works like a RTX voice but without RTX Graphic card which is awesome as I am not planning to upgrade to RTX anytime soon. Now I am wondering if there are any other special features offered by other manufactures that I will miss out. My requirements are 1) Inbuilt Bluetooth - for PS3/ PS4 Controller 2) NVME M.2 - for future upgrade 3) Diagnostic led or code (Optional) 4) Feel free to add your good to have/ease of life features.

Hello I am having a problem. When the video card is loaded in games, noise appears in the speakers. I changed the speakers, but the problem persists. I also rolled back and reinstalled the video driver, it did not give any result. If Vert-sync enable, the noise disappears but not everywhere in games, when I move the mouse, the tonality and intensity of the noise changes. Until recently this problem did not exist, I did not add or change hardware. The noise is heard from the video card, it is not strong I know about the coil whine, but why it became audible in the speakers I made videos from games Hell let Loose and RDR 2, but my phone is not very good at it. Link on GD Hell let loose, RDR 2 I also made an audio recording on the PC microphone from the game RDR 2. Link on GD Sound only RDR 2 very noisy!!! I found some graphic artifacts link RDR 2 artifact Help me please determine what the problem is I am worried about my hardware. My system: Processor: Ryzen 2700x Motherboard: Asus x470 prime pro Video card: rtx 2070 Power supply: be quiet System power 9 700w windows 10 x64 20h2 P.S. Sorry for my English.

Hey, new to the forum here - I've built one PC before in my life - in an NZXT S340 case, which comes with two of NZXT's FN V2 airflow fans, one at the top and one behind the GPU. Both are connected by molex as part of the case. The rear one has failed, and the top one is grinding, so it's time. So I know just enough to know Noctua fans are well-regarded, thus the Redux fans (one P14 1500RPM on top, one P12 1700RPM in the rear since the top and rear support different sizes, and the RPM difference purely because those are the top speeds for each). So question 1: should I not be buying the fastest fans they offer, since they're all at the same price? Is there a good reason to buy a 1200 RPM P14 for a case fan instead of a 1500 RPM? Is it just louder? Question 2 (main question): These fans have optional silicone "anti-vibration pads" that are an extra $7 for 14 ct? So me, DIY person, says "well I can get silicone gaskets for stuff, I went through that with finding food/heat-safe stuff for homebrewing fittings" but the threads I read online point to the SCREW being the culprit, hence the silicone "screws" that Noctua and other companies sell. So...do I need one, both, or neither of those if I use a plain silicone o-rings/washers, which I know how to find? I'm never going to see these things.

Hello, are these sounds normal for a new drive? This noise is happening when I write... Sounds at --> 00:02, 00:07 and 00:12 (phone was pretty close and handles the sound more loudly than it actually is - depending on your volume) As you can see it is a Seagate IronWolf PRO 10TB 3,5" drive. I didn't use 3,5" disk in years, so I am concern about any noise it makes. Thank you EDIT: Found these videos (are they relevant to my issue?): https://youtu.be/fsod-SeEKq0?t=601 https://youtu.be/Uq4BOGMzy2Y?t=33

Hello. I recently bought a 8tb HDD. The drive works fine, but sometimes you can hear a strange noise when the disk is working. VIDEO: https://imgur.com/a/goEtJ7m (You need to turn up the volume) In the video you can hear one around the 12 sec and another one in the 2 sec. Should I return the drive?

Is this a reason to get a refund on my card ? Its really obnoxious to me. Is it even my GPU ?

Hey guys, so I built this pretty much exactly one year ago, and for some cpl days now it started making this rattling noise. I think it is the water pump doing that noise but I am not 100% sur and I don't really know how to test this. The noise doesn't always happen, and when it does it's mostly for 20-30 seconds. I couldn't really find any correlation with workload or specific actions that trigger the noise. I am fairly certain that it is not coming from the back or front case fans, maybe the AIO fans on the top. I don't want to run the PC with them off since I don't know if that can/will damage anything. I also had my PC run with books under its front foots for 10 days, as I read that it might help getting the bubbles out of the pump. So basically if some of you know what this sound might be (maybe from recognizing it) and if so maybe point me towards a fix ? Thanks a bunch in advance Specs : - AMD Ryzen 5 5600x - Crucial ballistix 32mb RAM - ASUS TUF RTX 3080 - ASUS ROG Strix X570-E Gaming - Kraken Z63 AIO 20211128_115633_755105189837404.mp4

Hi guys I've bought Lenovo Legion 5 (2021) with 5800h and rtx 3070 few weeks ago. It was working absolutely perfect for first couple of weeks one day I noticed that I can hear some weird noise when fans spin up. To better describe it's like clicking noise it happens only once when fans start working. Temps are quite good while gaming for a laptop I guess: CPU: ~80 GPU: Stays under 70. If anyone knows what can be causing this sound and should I take it to warranty? Because I'll be left without device for couple weeks. This is my first gaming laptop so I have no idea how they behave. Here's a video:

So have I have an Asus expedition Gtx 1060 and the fans on it are making annoying squeaking sound, i tried to lubricate them but it help minimally and i don't have much time atm to really get deep into problem. So i was wondering if it is ok to set fan curve in Asus GPU Tweak II to have 0db fan until like 60-65C (The Card already has 0db at like +- 50C) and the card then will have low fan speed to like 40%. I tested it and card never went over +- 73C and stayed at 0db when playing csgo. The only concern I have that i read online that it might be bad for memory. The squeaking sound might be because card was running in dusty and not very ventilated case. What are your recommendations and tips? P.S. My pc is pretty quiet only the gpu is pretty annoying so thats why i want to do smthing with it. I attached video of the squeaking noise, VID_20220116_021911.mp4

I have (2) 4TB Western Digital Gold HDDs in RAID 1 (mirrored) and (2) 8TB HGST HDDs in RAID 1 (Mirrored) as well. I use both arrays for DATA only. I have a Samsung 860 EVO SSD (1TB) as my primary drive with Win 10 x64 pro. I have another Samsung 860 EVO SSD (2TB) as a DATA drive that I use for Virtualbox VMs (Virtual Machines). Periodically I am getting some really weird successive clicking sounds that do not give me a good feeling. Hoping someone here can ID the sounds and let me know if I should be worried or not. The sound occurs like 6 times in succession. It happens usually only once during a power up cycle ... as far as I can tell. I wear my headphones a lot, so Im not always paying attention. I have added LINKS to the SOUND and MY HDD Benchmarks. NOTE(s): - The RAID setup is using Windows built-in software RAID setup - The benchmarks were taken on each HDD separately before they were put in a RAID configuration - I bought the 2nd HGST HDD a year later that the first. I've noticed that it runs 3 deg C hotter and the throughput is about 20% slower - The HDDs are about (1) year old except for the new HGST drive. - The MOBO has SATA 2 which is supposed to have 3Gbs (300MB/s) maximum speeds. How is that the 2TB Samsung 860 EVO is getting 500MB/s + speeds? Let me know what you think I should do to make sure things are working correctly. If there is a questionable drive, how do I go about isolating it? What software do you recommend for testing? I use CrystalDiskMark and HDTune. Are these sounds routine for drives in a RAID 1 configuration? As always, Thanks in Advance. IMG_0970.MOV Hello, this is my first time posting here at LTT so bear with me. So I recently built my own custom PC and upon building it then turning it on a few moments in there's this loud sound started coming from the PSU but after some time it also disappears the duration differs and I notice it comes up randomly but doesn’t affect performance in any way from my observation. My PSU is a Cooler master v850 sfx and I cant tell what kind of noise it is but it doesnt really sound like coil whines imo. Right now I asked the seller of the PSU for a replacement and theyre testing my psu for now as I dont really know what the issue is nor can I find a similar cases on the internet so far. For now I borrowed my brother's PSU which is also a cooler master but an atx silent pro 850w which is a quite old model already but it still works well and Ive had no issue so far until just later that day while using it, a similar sound to the first PSU came up again so Im sort of doubting the idea that the issue is really with the PSUs at this point. Ive also tried directly plugging to a wall socket or a power strip but same thing since I preferably use power strips for cable management. Id say the closest sound I can match it with is when my yeelight wifi filament bulb also makes this buzz sound from time to time as well (I don’t have a video recording of it since I haven’t had it occur again in a while), not as audible but still noticeable then I just left it alone and had no issue with use so far. Is it just a natural occurrence? Right now Im just looking for an explanation for it since I have yet to find anything similar to it written down. If the information above is still insufficient please feel free to ask so I can answer.

I recently started hearing a buzzing noise coming from where my RAM is slotted into my motherboard. However, it only makes the noise when I start up the pc. After getting a few suggestions from friends, I decided to replace 2 of the sticks of RAM to see if that was the issue. The noise went away for about a week, but then started again. It only happens when the RAM is actually installed. So, I would like to ask, is this a motherboard issue? Or could it be my power supply? 1469263572_RAMIssue.mp4

My MSI Aegis recently started making a knocking sound i tracked it back to the power supply and cleaned it and put it back ran good for a bit then started again. This time i checked for any missing parts or screws. I noticed that it was missing one rubber foot from where it sits in the tower. I replaced it with a matching size piece of craft foam. My question is will the craft foam hold up to the heat of a PSU? So far the knocking is gone. It was like a knock 4 tomes per second almost like the fan was doing it. If the foam doesnt hold up i do have polyurethane bumpers i am going to cut to size. I know that craft foam has a melting point of 90-105c but polyurethane is way higher of a melting point.

Hey guys, my rig is making weird noise when the video card is under load, from what I can tell by ear, the noise came from the PSU, but after I change the new PSU the noise is still here (same EVGA g5 750w). what are the chances II got 2 brand new PSU making the same noise? my video card is new and seems to work fine, could it be the MB? should I return the second PSU then try again??? the file is a recording from my phone, you can hear the noise went from louder to lower because I moved my phone from the PSU location (loudest) to the video card location(lower noise). please help me if you can, my gtx1080 bust into flame a few weeks ago I don't want it to happen to my new video card! Hello, I work in a server room with several devices running their fans on full blast nearby. I'm wanting to upgrade from my crap $20 wireless headphones to either a pair of noise isolating or noise canceling earbuds. Are active noise cancelation earbuds strong enough to drown out fan noises? Or, should I perhaps just get noise isolation instead?

Strange loud clicking noise with high pitch (Please help!)
WillLTT posted a topic in Storage Devices
Hello folks! I have a hdd in my PC that was laying around my room before i used it in my build 1 half years ago. Its an WDC WD5000AAKS-22V1A0. I recently heard this clicking noise from my PC, my first thought a bad fan or a bad harddrive. But the thing is, the sound is too high pitch and fast for it to be click of deaths ive heard before on youtube. The HDD reports "Good" in crystal disk info, no warnings to show. The HDD has a S.M.A.R.T Feature, should tell me if someone is gone bad, right? The noise sounds a lot like HDD clicking. But too loud to be normal reading. See attached file for recording of noise. Also sorry for loud noise of my moving phone, i was trying to record the noise. Also the noise began while playing TS4, TS4 is installed on that disk, stopped a little after unfocusing TS4 and entering crystal disk info. TD;DR Anxiety inducing high pitched disk clicking. 20211025_183759_1.mp4- 1 reply
