Hi everyone. I'll be upgrading to Skylake next month, and the plan is to get a ASUS Z170-A motherboard, an i5 6600k and a Noctua NH-D15 cooler. The D15 is quite heavy with both fans installed, and I've seen some people saying that the Z170-A is a very thin and 'weak' board. Will the weight of the D15 cause any problems with this motherboard, or is it nothing to worry about?

Hi guys. So I'm currently planning a major upgrade for my gaming PC, going from an old B75-board to a Z170, probably with a i5 6600k. I'm also adding a second EVGA GTX 970 with the ACX cooler, running in SLI, as well as a new PSU. The thing I'm most uncertain about is airflow. I'l probably go with the Noctua NH-D15 for my CPU. Currently I have 2x 140mm fans as intake in the front, as well as a single 120mm fan as exhaust in the back, no fans at the top. The fans I'm using now are the two stock Corsair fans, plus a AF140 in the front. I'm thinking of changing them to two Noctua NF-A14s in the front, and a NF-F12 in the back. But what happens if I put NF-F12s at the top as exhaust as well? Will this significantly interfere with the airflow for the CPU cooler? I will be running the NH-D15 with two fans. Other comments or advice about the setup in general will also be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi all, I have the been planning the following build for close to a year now. Given that first is my build, I have a few questions about using an AIO liquid cooler for the CPU. FYI, I live in Australia, if that makes any difference. I plan on overclocking the CPU and GPUs and the main usage will be gaming and some software development that benefit from multiple cores. At the moment, I am considering using the Noctua NH-D15 as it has the best performance reviews for an air cooler. However, I am not a big fan of the colour scheme (I am going for a black/ white theme). In fact, I was considering the Phanteks PH-TC14PE (white) for the better matched colour, but I've read that the performance is a tad worse than the NH-D15. The other issue with these is the ram clearance and mounting difficulty. The reason I have been a bit apprehensive about going with an AIO liquid cooler is because I am afraid of leaks from either the radiator end or the water block end. I have also heard about things like pump failures and evaporating fluid as concerns. I visited a local retailer (Scorptec in Clayton) and one of the staff members told me that he has never had any customers complain of leaks with AIOs and his particular recommendation was the Corsair H100i GTX or the Corsair H110i GTX. I love the aesthetics of these two coolers, but my aforementioned fears are holding me back. I could be wrong on this, but the fact that the sleeved cables go completely into the CPU block on the Corsair H110i GTX and H100i GTX make them feel more 'sealed' (correct me if I'm wrong here). So, my question is, how reliable have these CPU AIO coolers gotten and what is the most sealed/ reliable option for me. EDIT: If there are any articles/ additional reading that you can link me to about the reliability of AIOs, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello! My H100i is dying (see my last post all about it) and I want to fit my setup with a massive Noctua NH-D15. Will it fix in my case with two SP120s on top.

Hi There; I have a new case fan installed its a "Raijintek Aeolus B Slim Fan"; The manufacturer states that it has a startup voltage of 7V; I have the fan running at 8.7V. My issue is that the fan doesn't always start up; sometimes I need to bump the side panel to get the fan to start up. Anyone have any ideas? Defective Fan? Run Fan at 12V and use a Resistor Instead? Thanks; Deven

Uhh, well i did'nt know where to put this post so i settled on the 'troubleshooting' section as it could possibly be a problem. Right, anyway. My question is; i plan on buying and building a PC. But i want to put a noctua u14s on the asus z97 pro. Now this is fine on its own my case (Fractal Desgin R5) has enough space in it. But my concerns arise when with the grpahics card (Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970). I think the heat sink of the noctua u14s will touch the gtx 970 and cause a short which i defintely don't want! I tried looking online for documentation on this short of thing i can't find anything on it, like anywhere. So what im asking is. Does anyone know if the noctua u14s will touch my gtx 970 on the asus z97 pro. As the gap between cpu and the first PCIe slot is quite mimonal? Thanks in advance!

I need to upgrade my stock fans and CPU cooler in my Fractal Design R5, but I am not completely sure how to go about doing that. I want Noctua fans in my case, and I will also be pruchasing a Corsiar H110i GT AIO liquid cooler. So, I want 5 Noctua fans total- 2 on the rad (which will be placed on the top of the case), 1 exhaust in the top left, and two intakes in the front. For the case fans, should i go for 140mm or 120mm fans and which ones? And as for the H110i GT, which 140mm Noctua fans are optimized for radiators? Thanks!

Hey, so I'm about to build my pc really soon, and I am stumped on what my fan should be setup. I have a Corsair H110i GT AIO cooler, and also bought a noctua NF-A14 PWM fan. The fans included with the case are two Fractal Design GP14 fans that run at 1000rpm. My initial plan was to have the included fans at the front as intake (all drive bays and optical bays removed except for on which hangs at the top) and my H110i at top as exhaust, leaing my Noctua fan as an exhaust with the low noise adapter. Is this fine? And should I turn the rpm down for the Noctua fan as low as I can? Thanks, pmanftw

Hey guys, so I'm building an matx build in the corsair air 240, and I'm wondering if I should go aio or with an air cooler. Please say why and your personal opinions aswell as if you can, link me some good ones I will be running the i5-6600K with the asus rog gene (matx) mobo, and as stated before the Cors(air) 240 case (see what I did there?)

I just finished my new itx gaming-rig with In-Wins 901 Case, but i think my CPU temps are quite high. I've got an i5 4670 and a Noctua NH-U9B Cooler with 2x Pure Wings 2. The Case has 1x 120mm intake and 1x 92mm plus Power Supply and GPU exhaust. CPU: Idle: 35-40°C Load: up to 75°C Battlefield 4: ~65°C GPU: Idle: 35-40°C Load: 70-75°C For the GPU with its Reference-Cooler the temps are ok, but CPU is definitively too hot. I will try to remove the 92mm case exhaust or the second CPU fan, because they are very close, maybe they interfere with each other, but i don't have that much time right now. I've already tried to renew thermal compound, but no change. So for now, what do you think about my situation, should i look for a new CPU cooler? There's not much room in there, max height is 130mm, i don't think a 120mm fan will fit, because of RAM and VRM. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

The rig will be used for gaming (Battlefield 4) and photography (Lightroom 5/6 and Photoshop CS6). I've got a 1600p monitor (Dell u3014) and I think an overclocked GTX 980 can drive it for at least three years. Aside from the overclocked gpu, I also plan to overclock the CPU to at least 4.3GHz (assuming I get a good chip). I'm mainly asking you guys because I may have missed something. This is my first time building a rig and I don't want to make any costly mistake. Here's the PCPartPicker list: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Raccatography/saved/#view=bJknTW My budget is $1,600. Here's another list but with pricing converted from my country's (Philippines) currency: i5 4690k $227 Noctua NH-U14S $66 Gigabyte GA-Z79X Gaming 5 LGA 1150 $169 TWO x Kingston Hyper X Fury 8GB DDR3 1866 (BLACK) No XMP support $105 Boot Disk: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5” SSD $118 Storage Disk / Scratch Disk Choices: TWO x WD Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5” 7200RPM $107 NVIDIA Asus GTX 980 STRIX 4GB Originally a GTX 970 and then I switched to a 390X and then finally, this! $471 Fractal Design Define R5 (Titanium-Windowed) $120 PSU Choice: SeaSonic M12II 750W It's 620W in my PCPartPicker, but I want this one to have some room for SLI or overclocking... $98 Additional Fans: TWO x Fractal Design R2 fans (Placed at the bottom) I was going to go for one Enermax Cluster or a Spectre Pro but I don't like LEDs $13 Total = $1,594

Hello guys! I want definetly to replace my stock cooler since i want to go for a little bit of OC. I'm not sure which air cooler I should pick. Here are my choices: -Noctua NH-D14 -bequiet! Dark Rock 3 -Noctua NH-U12s My case is the shinobi from bitfenix (160 max. height for Cpu cooler) I've been looking for benchmarkes, compared them and other stuff, but I can't make a decision. Could you guys help me out? Does somebody have experience with these coolers? Thanks for your help

I was wondering what the best heatsink for an Intel i3-3220 would be. The 3220 has a TDP of 55w I would like if it's good enought to be a passive cooler. It must be able to fit on a mATX board, in a case with 160mm in cooler clearance to the side panel. 140mm coolers will NOT fit on the board without touching the gpu. Loose/heavy 120mm coolers will also touch GPU. (I know from a saggy hyper 212 evo)

Can the Extreme6 motherboard handle the Noctua NH-D15 cooler? It weighs 1320g. I've read some people warning that moving the case around with a Noctua cooler can cause damage to the motherboard, and I don't know how much I have to worry about that. Is there a backplate on the Extreme6, or can I attach one myself?

Is there a timeline or ETA on the LinusTechTips Noctua Fans. Based on Noctua's history, should we be expecting summer 2016? Fan Hype anyone?

Hi fellas, I've got 2 main questions here: Would a FuryX (liquid cooled, not a Nano) fit into my Corsair 760T? I've got a Noctua NH-D14 so, it takes a lot of space and I was wondering if any FuryX would fit there, the case fan is very near the Noctua so there isn't much space, I wouldn't mind taking the case fan if the GPU fits in there but I would like to know if it would fit even if I take off the side fan of the case. The second and main question: Next summer or a little bit earlier (may) I'm going to replace my GPU (GTX 970 G1) due to a 4K screen that I'll be during that time, so the question is simple, which GPU should I get? I was thinking of one of these 3: -Saphire R9 Fury X -Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti G1 Gaming -Gigabyte R9 Fury X The thing is that I don't know if there's any differences between the gigabyte or saphire version of the FuryX, the saphire is a lot cheaper but I prefer the looks of the gigabyte one. The objective is to play at a 4K res at 60Hz, I know none of these is capable of managing that on ultra in every game, that's Ok I can do 45 fps at ultra or 60 at high settings. The most demanding games I have are: -Assassins Creed Unity -GTA V -The Witcher 3 -Batman Arkham Knight -Fallout 4 -Assassins Creed Syndicate -Watchdogs -Dragon Age Inquisition -Project Cars -Asseto Corsa I know NVIDIA have better drivers and mostly are more optimized, but the 980 Ti G1 I've seen 4K benchmarks and some temps in game reach 85 degrees while the FuryX reaches a maximum of 65 (liquid cooling) and the performance difference is just about 6 fps at best, so right now I think I'm going for the FuryX, also it's smaller. Another concern I have is that I do a lot of video editing at resolutions from 480p to 4K, so I would also like a hint on which one would perform better, I use the following softwares: -DVD Fab -Sony Vegas -Core Pinacle -Adobe Premiere Pro -Adobe After Efects -Avid Media Composer My budget is about 650€ (which is 680$) because I can get the GPU without taxes (in my country is 21%) so including taxes, my budget is about 750€ which is about 780$ So what do you think here guys?

This is going to be my first time ever building a PC, excuse the amateur questions. Thinking of getting some Noctua fans for my case. I want to go with Silence or close as possible. 1. I will be getting Corsair H110i GT, Are the stock fans any good if not what fans does everyone suggest getting to replace the stock fans? 2. I need to replace 140mm exhaust fan. I was thinking of getting Noctua NF-A14 FLX, Is that a good fan for exhaust or is their a better fan that Noctua offers? 3. I have two Corsair AF140mm Silent Edition Blue LED for my intake, Are these fans worth keeping? I want to stay with LEDS infront.

Hi guys, I've recently got a Corsair 750D, and this is included with 3x AF140L case fans (I believe they're a lesser version of the AF140). I'm just looking into making them quieter as for some reason I can't from my motherboard (it's only a cheap Gigabyte, and doesn't offer very good control over the fan headers). Would I be able to use these Noctua adapters with the fans? I know it says on their website not to use on fans that draw more than 3W of power, and the AF140L's draw 3.6W (12V x 0.3A), but is it really that much of a problem? Low noise adapters don't seem to be that readily available for some reason, plus these ones look really nice given that they're braided. Can anyone help please? Thanks

Hey, just wondering, what could be the RPM of the Industrial NF-12 PWM 2000 at idle ? Say you plugged it in you CPU fan header, at idle, should I expect something around 600-800 RPM ? Thanks !

Hi, I have a Fractal Design R5 case with an inbuilt fan controller with 3 x 3 pin female fan cables coming out of it, I just bought a noctua PWM fan with a 4 pin male fan cable. I bought it because i didn't think it mattered since you can connect 4 pin fans to 3 pin motherboard but I just figured out that the 4 pin male cable does no fit into the 3 pin female cable. My question is, are there any adapters I can buy, I looked in Amazon but I couldn't find any, it just gets me a bunch of molex to 4 pin adapters. Thank you
