  3. An important note - this build is all very tricky because some prices, specs, etc, are not yet known for these items because they haven't been released fully. I would love to use PC part picker but most of this isn't on there yet. The goal of this post is just to figure out if everything sounds like it's going to work well and try to get as many questions answered now, rather than trying to plan last minute (or waiting for each component to come out) and everything being out of stock by the time I figure the whole build out. My biggest concern is the struggle to stay on top of all the news coming out about these items and what they need. Also, I type fast & detailed so this will be long af. Details keep the expensive mistakes away! Budget: Overall not wanting to pass 4k USD. The goal is to get the parts to go fast, the parts needed to make those parts work well, and nothing more. Not spending $$$ on RGB or other non-necessities. I don't overclock. Country: USA Use case: Blender! Cycles animations (Optix - GPU bound), physics simulations (often doing smoke sims, CPU bound), and I am having a lot of fun with large scale environments often involving volumetrics (clouds are fun) and things like large oceans and complex lighting (GPU bound). I do game occasionally but it's probably 1/10th of the time compared to what I spend in blender and simply put, I don't have any concerns about this system not being able to run really any game. Monitors: Puke warning: Currently running 2 1080p 60hz monitors from work as well as a probably 8 year old LG 34 inch, 2560x1080, 60hz monitor. I plan to get the Samsung QD-OLED G8QNB when it comes out I believe around end of year - assuming the news stays good. I know it might suffer burn in, and it will likely run around 1,300$ (part of the overall budget), but I want to see the stuff I create in the best way possible. Some history for anyone that cares that explains why I am upgrading... I built my second to last PC in 2014 right when DDR4 came out. An i7-5820k, 16GB of DDR4, R9 295x2 (later changed to 1070), 1200W Evga PSU. I held onto that thing until January of 2022 cause I am one of those "oh, that just got announced and will be even faster than the thing that just came out? I guess I should wait a little longer..." type folks. Well, after getting deeply back into Blender in late 2021 I quickly ran into issues. Smoke simulations on a 2014 CPU and rendering said volumetric animations with a 1070 in the Cycles render engine quickly proved painful, if not simply impossible. By January I got fed up. I knew Ryzen 7 was coming but there were some deals to be had on the current processors, and they were actually in stock which was something I had very little confidence about regarding Ryzen 7 and DDR5 given the horrible shortages plaguing the PC world for about 2 years at that point. I also had a co-worker wanting to get rid of a nice 2080 for free so it seemed like the time to move. So, I finally got over my "just keep waiting" problem and got a 5950x, 32 GB of much faster DDR4, and that 2080. I also got new storage all around, mainly NVME. I ran that 2080 and 1070 together as Blender can take full advantage of that - and simply put, I was blown away by the immediate ROI. I should not have waited that long! I literally had no good reason to do so. I just happened to be at a Best Buy a few months later as they pulled a single 3080 TI FTW3 off the truck, which I snatched, and was immediately happy with as it chunked through frames about another 50% faster than my dual GPU combo could. I was sad to find though that my 2080 wouldn't fit at the same time though due to a required PCIe to NVME adapter since the MB only has two onboard slots. While my current 5950x, 32GB RAM, and 3080 TI is obviously fast - I guess I caught the bug and now I want to go even faster. The 7950X looks like it will be able to take a massive chunk of time out of my simulations which is awesome. And, the new MB's seem to allow me to return to my dual GPU setup, more on that later. Not to mention that I have a nearly 8 year old PSU now that was decently tortured by that 295x2 for a while, a monitor that needs replacement, an AIO that's still functioning but getting up there in years, and a case with dying fans that requires me to leave the glass off the side to keep the current components breathing. For those whom may be upset about my 5950x or other parts going to waste - worry not! Everything I am recycling I have spare parts for (storage and GPU) such that my existing system can allow me to game while the other renders, or I can use it as a second over-the-network render station. If neither of those work out I am sure one of my artists friends will happily continue to give it life. The new build: CPU - Ryzen 7 7950x - 700$ No concerns honestly. Motherboard - Asus ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING WIFI - 700$ estimate Concerns: Guessing around 700$ (hopefully a overshot) based on the only reports I could find. Edit: I was going to say Asus's website (Edgeup.asus.com) is not yet live however, the waybackmachine has captures of the articles. Idk if it's just down or what. In any case... these links will show you the articles. While I see little specifics to my board, these articles seem to suggest ALL the new MB's have three or four onboard M.2 slots at least - so my problem of needing a PCIe adapter to M.2 which blocks me from putting in a second 3 slot graphics card is fixed! I also get a decent view of the power connectors and don't see any concerns. https://web.archive.org/web/20220831164041/https://edgeup.asus.com/2022/three-new-x670e-motherboards-break-cover-from-rog-rog-strix-and-tuf-gaming/ https://web.archive.org/web/20220826183949/https://edgeup.asus.com/2022/new-x670e-motherboards-arrive-from-rog-proart-and-asus-prime/ PSU - EVGA Supernova 1600 P+, 80+ Platinum 1600W - currently 200$ on Amazon for 60% off?? I still trust EVGA as a brand for this job. Probably overkill but keep in mind three things. 1. I will hold onto this one for another 8 years and like longevity, I won't have to worry about how hungry future parts are as we seem to move in an evermore power hungry world. 2. Ryzen 7950X + a 3080 TI + a 2080 will be power hungry 3. If the 40 series power consumption rumors are anywhere near true and I indeed wind up with a 4080/4090 running alongside my 3080, that too will be very hungry. And keep in mind I will sometimes floor all my GPU's and my CPU at the same time in Blender. That said - I don't get EVGA's PSU naming and costs. Why is this 60% off? It has been for months it seems according to PC part picker. Is this an old product/model or is there something becoming outdated about it? Or is this just a markup and sale to look better situation? Also the whole P, P+, P2, P3 - I tried to look into this and it seemed to correlate to product age and/or size - where smaller PSU's with equal wattage obviously cost more. Just trying to make sure this is indeed a good product with a long compatible life span ahead of it. I am not trying to skimp on the angry box that can kill everything in my computer if it wants, but I also don't want overkill to have really unneeded cost behind it. If I should really get a 1200w for 300$ that's a P69+ model, then so be it. RAM - G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin SDRAM DDR5 6400 (PC5-51200) - 309$ No idea what ram speeds are good for Ryzen 7 yet. I surprisingly still don't bump up against my RAM limit so I will be doing another 32 GB. Doing 2x16 to leave room for the eventual 64GB though. I would love to not pay for RGB - but for some reason non-RGB costs more at the moment?? That is a trend in other parts too for reasons I don't understand. GPU - For now, recycling my 3080 TI But!!! I want to be able to put my 2080 in along side my 3080. I currently can't do that because the Asus x570 gaming II has two onboard M.2 slots which required me to get a PCIe to M.2 adapter. That blocks off the 3rd slot my 3 slot 2080 would need. As mentioned under the MB, it seems the X670 series from Asus has 3-4 m.2 slots on each board so I should be all set to dual GPU again for Blender as that third slot won't be blocked off. I also want to know that if I want, I will have the space / compatibility to upgrade to a 4080 or 4090 down the road (GPU ram is an issue) and run it alongside my 3080. I will assume a 4080 will also block three slots so, if I can do a 2080, I should be able to do a 4080. Storage - recycling it all. 8 TB 3.5 inch drive 4 TB 3.5 inch drive 128 GB Sata SSD - old and I just throw a few small games on it. 1 TB Samsung NVME drive for OS 2x 1TB Samsung NVME drive for art (software raid, backups go to 8 TB) Again - just needing a MB with at least 3 onboard M.2 slots which seems to be covered. Monitor - Samsung QD-OLED G8QNB - 1,300$ estimate As mentioned, this isn't out nor is price 100% known yet but estimates can be made and I have every intention to get it. While burn in is concerning, I think this will be a stunning monitor and honestly can't wait to see what my art looks like on it. The cost so far... 3,200. So I have a good bit of room for cases and such - but again, I don't want to spend money I don't have to. I just want to make sure the parts can perform. Any unnecessary money I spend just takes away my ability to get a 40 series card. Here is where I really can't decide. The NZXT build... because I have had NZXT cases since 2012. I am used to using and having NZXT CAM installed and being able to control this all would be nice. NZXT H7 Flow - 130$ NZXT Kraken X73 - (LCD display edition, non RGB Fans) 254$ NZXT F120 RGB Triple Pack - 90$ - either this or 3 Noctua fans. As much as I roll my eyes at RGB, three Noctua fans would have a similar cost... so, having some fun RGB for the same price that I can control via the same software seems like an okay trade. I know the NZXT fans are not as great. Cost: 474 Concerns: my current NZXT case is a closed box that chokes my components. While I know the flow model is better, I worry about the GPU's. I really don't want to wind up pulling off the side panel again to keep the air cooled GPU's fed. The GPU's are going to be stacked very close, it would be great if they had better airflow and the bottom wasn't pressed up against the PSU shroud in addition to the top GPU being up against the second GPU. I would do a top mounted rad so the front can pull in just fresh air to feed the GPU's, and I think it would probably be okay? That said, I worry about the GPU's exhaust going up into the CPU rad and causing issues, or most the front air getting needlessly blown out the top rad immediately and GPU's thus toasting in their own circulation. I do love how easy it is to put there rads into there cases though... And because of that airflow concern... the maximum air build. Fractal Design Torrent RGB Black E-ATX RGB - 258$ (non-RGB cost more at the moment for some reason, great flow for GPU's, no extra fans needed) Noctua NH-D15 - 109$ Cost: 367 So my concerns here are interesting. The case RGB I think I can just hook up to a MB header and control through the Asus software. That's kind of a positive because it means I don't need two pieces of software to control the case versus board. The Noctua though... - I have gone with AIO's for so long it's weird to go back. I could put the same kraken in this case by mounting it to the front and I don't think that would horribly impact the GPU's since they would still have the bottom feeders, but that would send the cost up to about 500$ making it the most expensive option. Then I would need more software, I would also have to remove the two large front fans and pretty much waste them, and I know the nice fans this case comes with are a large chunk of the cost here. So all in all at worst I would be around 3,700. That does not leave any room for my 40 series hopes sadly, but I am sure my 2080 and 3080 will still be a good duo. Let me know what everyone thinks! Stock ideas on any of these components is a big question for me, and ultimately could kill the build. So far the CPU/MB/RAM (what I worry most about) stock numbers are sounding promising.

  6. Hi all, So I have recently built a computer for someone. I'll cut to the chase. It boots to the desktop as you would expect. I go to play something and it's completely unplayable. Turns out the Nvidia driver's aren't installed. Okay, I download Geforce Experience and I'm constantly greeted with the 'unable to install driver' message. Why? Also the motherboard I have comes with a wifi antenna. Only problem is, the driver's aren't working? It looks like they're installed but with a ! mark, and it's not operating correctly. Tried update and repair, it's all up-to-date. So why's the wifi not finding wifi connections?! Tried wiping the pc and starting again, same problem. I'm at the point of refunding the motherboard and gpu and buying different ones. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you! Here's the parts; MOBO: Gigabyte Aorus B550i Pro AX GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1660 OC 6GB

  8. *Answer Found* posted in comments by myself Budget (including currency): not very important Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: triple A titles Other details Hello all, hope I'm posting this in the correct topic. Ive built quite a few systems over the years but basically I am getting ready to upgrade from my current system (R7 5800x, Asus B450 mobo, 32gb DDR4 3600mghz, 2080 super, 750w PSU) to the new Lian li O11 dynamic evo case with the intent on getting the system ready for Zen 4 and the AM5 socket so new mobo, new GPU, new CPU, DDR5 ram. Here's where I need help. Intel recently released the Atx version 3.0 for PSUs and the Lovelace GPU architecture is potentially pulling upwards of 600-800 watts, which is fine I will just get a 1200 watt unit and be done with it. My issue is I want to get a new PSU now and I'm concerned that if I do so, a current PSU won't have the new 12+4 pin array on its connector thus rendering it useless on Nvidias 4000 series GPUs. Can anyone tell me if I should absolutely wait to buy a new power supply or does anyone know if somehow there will be adapters for the current PCIe 8 pin connectors kinda like the adapters included on Nvidias 3000 series founder cards? Thanks so much to anyone who can help in advance. Been trying to read up and get an answer but can't seem to find any, obviously its hard to know this early out! Thanks again!
  9. Build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VJMdH2 Budget (including currency): I'd like to make this 1500$, I was thinking of just getting a 3060 but perhaps getting a 3070 is worth the money in the long run? Country: U.S Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Simulators, Grand RTS, RPG's, and whatever triple A that comes out that ends up actually being decent Other details: I wanted to get a a vertical GPU mount (I think that's what it's called anyway) but that might prove to be a bad idea for a few reasons. I'm open to any and all suggestions. I was going to get a liquid CPU cooler but that ended up being too expensive. I'm most likely going to sell my old build once I get this one going so none of my old parts will be going into this one. BTDUBS I also see the incompatibility issues, I'm very open to another motherboard suggestion. Same with the CPU cooler. My main question resides in the GPU though. Should I cheap out and buy a 3060 or break the bank and buy a 3070? Would it actually make a difference a few years down the line? Thanks ahead of time!
  10. Budget (including currency): 1500 USD (max) but hoping to stay around 1300 USD Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Overwatch 2, Baldurs Gate 3, Minecraft, Hoping to be able to play some triple A titles. Also used as a workstation for Solidworks, Autocad, Photoshop, some model rendering. Other details Build I'm looking at: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2jqyzf CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600 3.8 GHz 6-Core Processor ($229.00 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Deepcool AK400 66.47 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX ATX AM5 Motherboard ($229.99 @ Best Buy) Memory: G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory ($136.00 @ Amazon) Storage: Kingston Fury Renegade 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive ($99.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: XFX Speedster SWFT 309 Radeon RX 6700 XT 12 GB Video Card ($389.99 @ Amazon) Case: NZXT H510 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case (Currently out of stock but will wait for it to be in stock) Power Supply: Super Flower Leadex III Gold 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.99 @ Newegg Sellers) Total: $1219.95 Have windows 10 OS taken care of. Aim: Planning a new build. Looking to game at 1080p well and 1440p decent (when I upgrade monitor). Manageable use of software, so I don't bang my head on the desk as I wait for things to load or render. I want this build to be able to be upgraded, as in a year or two, money won't be so tight. Also I am looking to overclock. Monitors: Currently have an Acer - Nitro XF273 Sbmiiprx 27" Full HD Monitor (HDMI), supports 1080p but will upgrade eventually. Not looking to have more than two monitors max in future. Peripherals: Peripherals are set for now, just basic cheap stuff that will manage for a little while. Why are you upgrading?: The current prebuilt I have is just too old to do anything, or to upgrade. I need something that can reasonably manage the work station software mentioned above, and hopefully run these games. Hoping to keep it cheap, but If I went overboard on anything or I need to get something better, I am open to suggestions. Won't need to be bought all at once. The build can wait reasonably a couple months. Consider me a Novice, any and all advice is helpful. Thanks in advance.
  11. I need help. I'm moving my dad's boot drive with all his work documents on it into a new pc I built for him. His old 5th gen intel pc was literally falling apart, and I built him a shiny new Ryzen 5600 system to make his workflow faster. I thought just moving the 2tb drive into the sata port on the new system would work but the motherboard isn't detecting the drive. My dad didn't back up the files so reformatting is out of the question. Help.
  12. Okay so I have two options: One is MSI Pro B66M-A WiFi https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-B660M-A-WIFI-DDR4 And the other one is ASUS TUF GAMING B660-Plus WiFi https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/tuf-gaming/tuf-gaming-b660-plus-wifi-d4/ Which one should I choose? Is the ASUS one worth spending a few extra bucks over?
  13. Hello folks, I’m trying to get my bootable windows 10 usb to show up on my Mac. I created using Bootcamp on macOS Mojave and it worked on an old Dell server. Now my new build is not booting and just getting stuck on a flashing underscore. I tried making a new bootable flash drive with a new drive and ran into the same error. Both drives show up on my Mac as exFat drives with a windows partition and register as a master boot record. I tried jumping my eprom and resetting the bios to default with no dice. I can boot into Puppy Dog Linux off of a live USB; but not lubuntu if that helps. right now I’m t trying to make a new drive with UNetbootin to see if that helps. After this I might try and see if that server takes the usb to boot to make sure it’s nothing wrong with the drives w/r/t booting. current build: Asrock b450m pro4 and a Ryzen 2200g wd black 1tb Ssd and silicon power ram.
  14. I just a couple of weeks ago finished my first pc build, https://pcpartpicker.com/list/cXPPH2 , with all of these specs. And they system is running as it should mostly but my fps on games is shit, as I have a 3060 ti I should e.g. be around stable 200 fps on Fortnite with high settings but I can barely get stable 100 fps with multiple drops through out the game. It is like this on other games too. It isnt my internet as I have around stable 8-10 gb per second ethernet, I thought it might be my screen that cant handle the fps (I have a 1080p 60hz monitor) but thought that my monitor shouldnt affect the stats shown. I also ran a benchmark test on the system which came out as "incomplete", even though I ran the programme multiple times. I used UserBenchMark. All my drivers are up to date aswell. Do you have any idea what the problem is and how I can fix it?
  15. First of all sorry for the wall of text. On mobile. I am trying to definitively identify source of hard stutters and crashing. I have recently built a new PC - 13600k, MSI Pro Z790A DDR5, Corsair vengeance RGB 2x 16gb, Samsung M2, thermaltake 750w PSU. A buddy of mine has given me his old 1080ti while i wait to buy a new graphics card. Build has gone well physically but have run into a myriad of problems since. Initially I could not install windows via a bootable usb stick, it would fail early on during the installation process. I brought it to a local computer store and they were able to install windows by fiddling with bios settings - ambiguous to me what they did. Was paranoid about components being the reason for my troubles so i downloaded every stress test and benchmark software i could think of. CPU passes with flying color, ram tests all good after running for multiple hours. Ssd healthy. Nothing appears out of ordinary until GPU. When stressing the 1080ti problems would occur almost instantly. GPU utilization would go to 100 percent, the test would fail with an error, my screen would lock up. Computer would not bsod but instead lock up and crash to desktop. Tried games, same problem crash under load to black screen but no Bsods. To troubleshoot: Reinstalled windows successfully, reinstalled GPU drivers cleanly, restored bios settings, turned off XMP, undervolted GPU, ran in safe mode. Same issues. Reseating card. Using different PCIe slot. Using different cables from PSU. Then tried an older GTX 1070 and it works perfectly fine in this build. 1080ti works perfectly fine in my friends computer a couple of years ago (but has been living in his desk drawer since. It seems like during these 100% utilization spikes, it would pull so much power on my computer that it would dim RGB and slow fans, or even outright cause the rgb controller to fail. Tried running without RGB hub and fans directly connected to mobo. Same crashes. Does this sound like 1080ti is kaput? Sound like my PSU isn’t enough? Chance my ram isn’t playing nice with my mobo and GPU? Anything i am missing? I am happy everything works with the 1070 but i would like to return PSU or ram while i can get a refund if the hive mind thinks they could be the culprit. Thank you for the help.
  16. Budget (including currency): no budget but hopefully not looking over £40 Country: England Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: games Other details I’ve got all my stuff for a mid range gaming pc and remembered I forgot about Wi-Fi as from a description assumed it was built in however the board I’m getting (ASrock Z590 pro4) has an m.2 Wi-Fi slot would an Intel ax201 wireless card be sufficient to connect me to the internet (I’m sorry if it’s obvious I just want to triple check) as Ethernet is not a current option. thank you for any advice I’m just trying to make sure I don’t get the wrong thing.
  17. All, I've just built my new PC. i7-13700k MSI Z690A 32GB DDR5 RAM 4070TI I've downloaded all the drivers from MSI's website(chipset, utiltiies, the works) and attempted to use the intel automatic update drivers software. 18. I am building a new PC with a 12700k and DDR6 and 750W PSU, and I'm trying to decide on a GPU. I play mostly Fivem/GTA5 along with Forza horizon 5 and some other basic games Val, League etc. I'm wondering if I should get a 6700xt or the 6750xt or maybe a 6800xt (if good deal), I know it might be over kill but might last me a long time so might be worth Idk. Trying to stick around the $500 or less for the GPU. Any help is appreciated.
  19. Hey there, I'm a university student (in the UK) and my current computer is letting me down a lot with running computational models and compiling code. 21. Currently I'm working on build a ryzen 3900x build with X72 NZXT liquid cooling and a 2080 gigabyte graphics card. Does anyone know which motherboard is better for this build a X570 MSI Meg Ace or X570 MSI Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi?
  22. Way back when.... Motherboards had a PCI slot and a few ISA slots I built my last PC. I don't remember the specs but it was AMD Athlon XP based with a Riva TNT2 32mb, it broke when I stored it in the old outside lavvy and the rats got it. For a few years I used an Acorn A3010 which was scavenged from a skip , avoiding using the internet on anything but my phone or shared computers, copying the files to a floppy disk and heading to the local library to print stuff off. Lemmings and The Oregon Trail became addictions Then my mums old Packard Bell Pulsar needed a new home, with a Celeron 333, Riva TNT2 32mb, 512mb ram, 6.4gb hdd running Windows 2000 it did what was needed perfectly. It's still kicking about somewhere Last year a Thinkpad T450 arrived in the household what i'd been missing, speed wise, followed closely by a Crossbone(which is a major step up from my Acorn) which has got me seriously interested in gaming. Now, mind, i'm used to virtualisation, network configurations, WiFi planning, I did book learning on it, and not to the building of PC's and have neglected new technology, fully investing in the hermit lifestyle, until recently, this is what I've researched: New PC Specs Buying CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 GPU: ASUS Radeon RX 580 AREZ 8GB DUAL OC Graphics Card MOBO: MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX PSU: Corsair TR550M RAM: Kingston Hyper X Fury DDR4 3200MHz - 1x 16GB Microsoft Designer Mouse Bin Raking Finds HDD1: Crucial CT525MX300SSD1 CASE: Coolermaster K350, needs some repair but i'll use balsa wood, plastikote and a glue gun for that Monitor: 2x Phillips 1080p with HDMI Microsoft Greek Layout Keyboard Optional Extras Bluetooth & WiFi card(this may not work however, as I live in the basement of a thick walled granite building) although modifying it by adding a custom aerial is a possibility Possible Mods(when i'm feeling adventurous) Mini biltong box inside the case with a hygrometer, big enough for one steak inside the case All this for a grand total of £441.95 including postage seems like a good deal. Would this be sufficient for 1080p video editing, photo editing with some modern games like Max Payne, Sin and Minecraft? Possibly even CS:Go Your thoughts are very much appreciated and would help a lot
