  1. Hey Im working on a new workstation/gaming build after a fire took out 2 desktops and a laptop. Its been a while since I did a pc build (2013 to be exact) so trying to wrap my head around the new NVMe M.2 drives and (with appropriate amounts of LTT). The pc will be used for heavy light-room and Photoshop use, with a modest amount of gaming. My main question would be what is the best configuration to set up the storage. Current spare components: Already have 6 x 500 GB 85 evo SSDS 1 Intel 540s 1T SSD 3 intel 540s 490 GB SSD HDD for long term storage New computer build plan: i7 9700k RTX 2070 windforce 32 GB 3200 MHz Ram (2x16GB) Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro WiFi or Ultra Motherboard Deep rock 4 or deep rock pro 4 cpu cooler. Corsair RM750x 750W 80 Plus V2 Gold Fractal designs s2 meshify case Initially i was considering just using the SSDs I have on hand to save some $$. Running one 500 GB SSD for the operating system + instaled files, a 500 GB SSD for my games library and the 1 T SSD to store my Adobe applications, current light room catalogue and photos (Correct me if im wrong but i believe having the applications, catalogue and the images all one the one drive gives a bit of a performance boost?). My budget probably wont let me go overboard on multiple M.2 NVMe drives, how ever i can afford one 1T Samsung 970 evo plus m.2 or two intel 660p drives (256 GB and 1T). Given the SSD drives I already have, is it worth spending the extra an the M.2, how would you implement it into the build for the best performance increase, particularly for photo/video editing? Would you go with the m.2 for the operating system drive, then have lightroom and photoshop on the OS drive as well (or the os on the 256GB drive and photography stuff on the second 1T one if i go with 2x Intel 660p). Any other configurations or options to consider? If i understand things correctly, when the M.2 is connected to the MB it uses up 2 SATA 3 ports, leaving me with only 2 SATA ports left if i get two intel m.2 drives? Does the M.2 give a significant boost to lightroom/photoshop performance or should i stick with the SSDs for now (possibly spend the budget for the m.2s on an upgrade to a RTX 2080). Other build suggestions welcomed. Cheers

  3. Hello, I just recently did a build on my first pc, and i came across an issue. When i tried to install the win 10 after installation my pc wont boot the win10 it just goes back to black screen and only option is F1 which makes you go back to the Bios. I tried to install it to my M.2 drive. The process goes all the way to the auto restart. 4. So I brought a Corsair Carbide 740 Air and a Floe riing 360mm but I didn’t realise that the only place that it would fit is on the front mount! So does it matter that it is on the front mount or does it need to be up on the top mount?! Thank you you for helping!!
  5. Hi all! I've been planning this build for a long time. 2 years, to be specific. Now that I've gotten me a job (still in school), it's actually starting to look possible. I'm in Australia, and I'm only buying from a local store (saves money on shipping, I checked the shipping from PCCG and it was something mad like $120). I've been doing a lot of research on the best value parts (i5 7600k for example) and after a while I've narrowed things down to these parts: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/fp9dRG Prices are in AUD, and the pricelist for the store is here: http://msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf Vega has (kind of) arrived here, but it seems to be just the 64 and I remain skeptical. Now, this is primarily going to be a gaming system (Star Citizen, PUBG, BF1, etc.), and appearance was a big factor in me picking these parts. I for one love RGB and couldn't resist gigabyte's sweet, sweet lighting on their boards and cards. I'm pretty convinced about having an Intel system, simply because the i5 7600k is (from what I've read) the best value gaming cpu on the market right now. Some areas where I'm a bit confused are PSUs (how much headroom is enough), coolers (is the Hyper 212x enough for a little overclock), and SSDs (I love the speed of the 960 evo but I'm really unwilling to fork out $300+ for the 500gb version, is the 250gb enough for Win 10 and a few AAA titles?). Thanks in advance, Jaeger
  6. Hello guys i'm a new member in the forum (but i use it to search for tips and stuff like that) and i'm planning to build a pc with a ryzen cpu but i'm thorn appart between teh 1400 and 1600 (i plan to buy locally so here it is: Case: ~45€ PSU: SEASONIC S12II-520 80+ bronze (64.80€) RAM: 8gb Gskill Aegis cl15 2400 mhz (1stick , plan to add another in 6-12months) (64.90€) Motherboard: Asus Prime b350-plus (109.90€) Graphics Card: Sapphire RX480 4gb Nitro OC (209€) CPU: ryzen5 1400 (197€) OR ryzen5 1600 (255€) ? Total with ryzen 1400: 691.50€ Total with ryzen 1600: 749.50€ i only have three questions : should i go with the 1600 or the 1400? Is the 1600 worth it ?(read notes). And should i get the same psu but 620watts(78€)? I can go for both budgets but is it worth the extra money for the 1600? Cause with 50€ i can have a nice dinner with my gf lol Note1: i decided to buy in the best and cheapest local store, and i live in a group of islands that belong to portugal (The Azores) so dont mind the expensive prices since its normal and i dont want to buy online. Note2: please dont tell me about the rx580s because here they are a lot more expensive and not like rest of europe launch price or america ... Instead of dropping the 480 price they kept it and bumped the 580 price lol Note3: i already have an HDD and an SSD from my old and broken pc . I ve been waitting for ryzen since freakin january and i'm thirsty to build this baby and game. Note4: me and my brother like to use photoshop, lightroom, after effects, vegas pro. My brother used to make youtube vids before our pc died and he will continue to edit in the new pc. I plan to keep this pc for the next 4-5 years (at least trough university) without getting a new one since i'm not rich and worked hard to buy this pc for me and my brother (i'm 20 and he's 18 btw) . thanks in advance and please tell me if i made any mistake!
  7. Hi, Was wondering which CPU would be the best and cheapest for a GTX 1060 6GB -Albatrozz
  8. Hi, I am trying to buy part for a gaming pc. my budget is £800, basically need everything. for some direction these are some games I play: - League of Legends -Dota -CS:GO -Overwatch -World of Warcraft Will only need 500 gb of hard drive windows 10 It also needs to have a CD Drive Also looking for a monitor 1920 x 1080 and a keyboard (but this does not have to be in the £800 budget just some advice on what products i should be looking at) dont mind if its intel or amd Thanks for all the help
  9. So I built my beastly machine with the R9 390X, and gave it away to a close friend of mine. I plan on getting a new PC, because I currently use a Dell XPS 8300 with a crappy Radeon 5700. It's an OK card for regular gaming, but in the case of GTA V, I have to play on 900p @ 30fps, just to play on low, with it's 1GB of GDDR5 RAM. I can't even run the division, because of the lack of vRAM. Another thing I hate about it is that it's terabyte hard drive is big enough, but it's too slow that I can really feel the bottleneck of the HDD. As for monitors, I have two 1080p monitors (Not identical sized and has identical resolutions, one is 1920 x 1080 monitor, the other is an 1920 x 1200) So I plan on building a new one. Here's the PCPartPicker list: PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/TvbgXH Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/TvbgXH/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($338.99 @ SuperBiiz) CPU Cooler: Corsair H110i GTX 104.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($99.99 @ Newegg) Motherboard: MSI Z170A GAMING PRO CARBON ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($139.99 @ Amazon) Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($249.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Intel 730 Series 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($249.95 @ Amazon) Storage: Intel 730 Series 480GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($249.95 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($117.99 @ Micro Center) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Founders Edition Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($699.99 @ NCIX US) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Founders Edition Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($699.99 @ NCIX US) Case: NZXT Noctis 450 ATX Mid Tower Case ($136.99 @ SuperBiiz) Power Supply: Corsair 850W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($159.99 @ Amazon) Wireless Network Adapter: Asus PCE-AC56 PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter ($61.99 @ SuperBiiz) Total: $3205.80 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2016-06-02 12:53 EDT-0400 I know it's a bit overkill, but I want to be able to play games at medium settings a few years from now, and do some VR. Going with Radeons isn't a choice, because NVIDIA gives so much features compared to AMD. I picked the founder edition, but plan on getting an MSI one; it's there as a placeholder. 32GB of RAM IS overkill, but hey, why not? The two 730s are for RAID 0. If you have any suggestions, comments, leave them below.
  10. Hey guys, I want you to look at this build i'm currently going for,http://pricespy.co.nz/list.php?l=197598&view=l , if you have any suggestions feel free to add, I don't want to go over budget too much considering prices here are bad. Thanks.
  11. Ok, so lets make this one fast. I'm in need of deciding a motherboard for an [Intel Core i7-5820K] which means I need it to be x99, LGA2011-3 socket compatible. I would also prefer the mobo to include up to 4-way SLI or Crossfire configuration, so I can add onto the 2 gpu's I plan to install from the get-go. I have already made some consideration and have found these two: -MSI x99 GodLike Carbon (which I've heard mixed reviews on) -ASUS Rampage V Extreme/U3.1 If anyone could help me decide, or even find a better motherboard that goes in line with the specifications listed above, that would relieve a lot of stress from this whole first build thing...
  12. Hey I was wondering if anyone thought this PC build was good for a first time. Any input is good thanks. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/WHr9WX

  15. So after a wile i finally have the resources ($) to be able to adventure myself into doing it all on my on instead of just going to the nearest shop and buy what they claimed to be good for the games i wanted... The specs: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/n6F4yc (Thanks @iNoa97) Explanation needed: I am kinda going for a Black & White theme, and i Live in Brazil so it hard to get some stuff here... and the taxes will raise the base price 60% just to get it from any where. Can you guys guide me on tips or say if I am doing something stupid =P Objective -> Hardcore Games in 4k ( the Division kinda of games), CS GO max performance , video and 3D Editing and modeling (occasionally) , and future CUDA programing. For your time Thank you.
  16. Currently I am building my new setup, but I am unsure if I should go for the X99 chipset or the Z170. I am not an extreme gamer (play a lot of CS:GO that's about it), but I do a lot of adobe stuff like AE/AI/PS/PR/LR/ Autodesk MAYA/ and etc..... Here's a link to what i decided to build: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/hxFBkL currently bought the RAM/PSU/Video Card/ Motherboard already (i still have time to exchange like 2 days LOL) edit build if you think it's necessary too LOL (ALSO if it's the X99 which motherboard would you recommend?) HELP ME please because I can't decide at the moment. THANKS

  18. I have just build a new computer, all fully custom watercooled. I have a GTX 770 Gigabyte Z97X SOC Force 16gb of Mushkin Enchanced Blackline (used in a previous build) i7 4770k (used in a previous build) Samsung 840 EVO 120 gb (used in a previous build) WD Green 2 tb (used in a previous build) Corsair AX 760i Power Supply (used in a previous build) After installing all drivers, I noticed that occasionally I would get blue screens: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 BCCode: 9f BCP1: 0000000000000003 BCP2: FFFFFA800CA48A10 BCP3: FFFFF80001BDA3D8 BCP4: FFFFFA8011C84C00 OS Version: 6_1_7601 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 768_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\021115-13026-01.dmp C:\Users\VinceOffice\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-17253-0.sysdata.xml Read our privacy statement online: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=104288&clcid=0x0409 If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline: C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt Is there a fix to this? Thinking about reinstalling windows, but was wondering if there is a specific file related to this blue screen, really bugging me now. Oh yeah, and the fact that my computer will not shut down is also causing me to ponder the question if the blue screen and the shutdown issues are linked together in some way.
  19. Hi guys. I have just gathered the rest of the money together for my first system and am torn between 2 different one's. I keep changing my mind every day or 2 because they are both roughly about the same price but the difference is they are on different platforms. The system is going to be used for a wide range of tasks such as gaming on 1080p, virtualization, web development, software development, some video rendering and every other day tasks such as browsing the web and word documents. None of the builds include an SSD as I have already purchased one. I also do not need a monitor or keyboard/mouse First build: PCPartPicker part list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/X2fxdC Price breakdown by merchant: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/X2fxdC/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor (£304.97 @ CCL Computers) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler (£65.46 @ CCL Computers) Motherboard: MSI X99S SLI Krait ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard (£189.99 @ Amazon UK) Memory: Kingston FURY 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (£145.49 @ Amazon UK) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£39.97 @ CCL Computers) Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card (£263.96 @ Scan.co.uk) Case: Corsair 450D ATX Mid Tower Case (£94.99 @ More Computers) Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£89.99 @ Amazon UK) Total: £1194.82 Second Build: PCPartPicker part list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/WWstyc Price breakdown by merchant: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/WWstyc/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor (£251.94 @ Scan.co.uk) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler (£65.46 @ CCL Computers) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-GAMING 7 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (£124.76 @ Scan.co.uk) Memory: Kingston Fury Red Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory (£47.39 @ CCL Computers) Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (£39.97 @ CCL Computers) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card (£450.94 @ Amazon UK) Case: Corsair Air 540 ATX Mid Tower Case (£114.95 @ Amazon UK) Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply (£89.99 @ Amazon UK) Total: £1185.40
  20. So close to a year ago i bought and built my first custom pc. Looking back now i thought it looked awesome and was a great computer but as that small amount of time gets on i now realize i could of done things better. http://www.pccasegear.com/sc/MQsx Out with the old and in with the new this time. Really happy with how I'm going to build this and looking forward too seeing it finished. Wouldn't mind so input on the fans and led strip as well if anyone has used them before. And just thought i would share my build
  21. Okay so I'm currently running an AMD system. Specs are an ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0 mobo (AMD 990FX/SB950 Chipset), FX-8350 CPU, Dual Zotac GTX970s in SLI, 16 gigs of memory, a Corsiar CX750W power supply. I built this system a couple of months back (my first build), and I've been getting pretty solid performance, so I didn't really think much about any potential, for lack to a better word, discrepencies, in this build. The question I have stems from an article I read about the FX-8350 and the 990FX chipset two days ago (link given below). Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, AMD's 990FX chipset has 40 PCIe lanes, of which 38 are usable, which means that ideally, if I'm using two GPUs in SLI, both should run at x16. Now, the problem I am facing is, one of my 970s is running at full x16, whereas the other, which should run at x16 if I'm correct, is running only at x4. I am absolutely unaware of why this could happen. And while I'm not complaining about the performance I'm getting from my rig, I still feel a bit perturbed knowing that if both GPUs run at x16, I may stand to benefit from it, rather than the current x16-x4 configuration they're running at at the moment. Any help on resolving this will be greatly appreciated. Oh and this is the link to the article I read http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/amd-fx-8350-processor-review,4.html And here are some screenshots I took that may help elaborate my query. Thanks
  22. Major Bullet Points 1. Budget & Location Sub 3k USD. Central Texas, USA 2. Aim General Purpose: Activities will include gaming, light editing, programing/software development, school, media center. 3. Monitors A 2560x1600 Yamakasi 301 Sparta is what I currently have. However, I would like to upgrade to a higher quality g-sync enabled Asus Monitor in the future, but that is not a part of this particular build. I have no inclination for multiple screens at present, but I hear they are useful for programing and development at times, as it allows one to have a dedicated monitor for looking up information so one does not have to alt tab back and forth. I will likely just use AutoHotkey to toggle the always-on-top property though. 4. Peripherals No peripherals needed except OS 5. Why are you upgrading? My current computer is a cyberpower I have owned for many years now. It still functions great, but I would like to make the move into building and maintaining my own PC from scratch such that I become more familiar with the use and maintenance of PC hardware. Additionally, I would like a rather significant upgrade as I tend to keep computers for around 5 to 6 years before replacing them, and giving my current rig to someone else in the family who wants/needs one. Typically I budget approximately 1k for my replacement, but I am financially capable of spending up to 3k for this project, so that is the limit I set for myself. Additionally, my PC is pretty much central to my life at present, so I tend to take good care and maintenance of it. 6. Additional Considerations I definitely want a positive pressure build, with filtered air intakes. I would prefer to keep everything air cooled at present, or possibly use a closed loop -which I do not believe will be necessary. This is because I anticipate relatively frequent moving over the next few years, and I would prefer air cooling for now. I also live in Texas and dust and ambient temperatures are hideous. Another thing to note is that I almost never turn my computer off except when giving it it's bimonthly servicing. It's just a quirk of mine, and I always seem to be doing something on it, i.e. providing ambient/chillstep music if nothing else. My current build is listed below, and it is mostly complete (I may purchase or replace fans with Noctua fans as needed). Please audit it and let me know what you think, and even though I have double and triple checked, check for part compatibility please. I am still learning the ins and outs of pc hardware, and what the various numbers mean and represent. 23. Hi i am making my first build this christmas and i need help finding Drivers for the MSI Z97 G45 LGA 1150 socket
  24. Hello to everyone on Linustechtips forum, just made an account but have been watching Linus tech tips for a while now. I am Australian and living in Sydney, Australia. I will be making a new build for my friend, which is intended for a lot of editing with final cut pro and the whole adobe suite. Also will be used for some gaming and everyday use. I will have no problems as I have already built my gaming beast of a pc and a pc for another friend. I plan on overclocking this build. I need you guys and girls to let me know what you think of the parts I have chosen. CPU- Intel I7 4770K Haswell Motherboard- Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H Motherboard Graphics Card- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Overclocked 2GB or the MSI power edition GTX 670 Case- Fractal design Define R4 Black with the window Power Supply- Corsair HX-750 V2 80 PLUS Gold power supply or the 650W version SDD- Sandisk Extreme solid state drive 240gb Hdd- Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM001 RAM- Corsair Vengeance Pro CMY16GX3M2A1600C9B 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 CPU Cooler- Either the Corsair Hydro Series H100i CPU Cooler or the Xigmatek Dark Knight Night Hawk CPU Cooler Fans: for the CPU Cooler- Corsair sp120 quiet edition twin pack Optical drive- LG Blu-Ray drive Monitor- Samsung S27a950d 120 Hz 3d 27inch Monitor Other parts- blue Led strip and braided cables The gtx g70 will be more than enough for gaming, but the around 1300 CUDA cores is great for the Adobe suite. I need to know whether I should get the Corsair HX 650w or 750w? I also need to whether I should get the corsair H100i or the dark knight cpu cooler? or any any other suggestions Thanks in advance
