  1. Way back when.... Motherboards had a PCI slot and a few ISA slots I built my last PC. I don't remember the specs but it was AMD Athlon XP based with a Riva TNT2 32mb, it broke when I stored it in the old outside lavvy and the rats got it. For a few years I used an Acorn A3010 which was scavenged from a skip , avoiding using the internet on anything but my phone or shared computers, copying the files to a floppy disk and heading to the local library to print stuff off. Lemmings and The Oregon Trail became addictions Then my mums old Packard Bell Pulsar needed a new home, with a Celeron 333, Riva TNT2 32mb, 512mb ram, 6.4gb hdd running Windows 2000 it did what was needed perfectly. It's still kicking about somewhere Last year a Thinkpad T450 arrived in the household what i'd been missing, speed wise, followed closely by a Crossbone(which is a major step up from my Acorn) which has got me seriously interested in gaming. Now, mind, i'm used to virtualisation, network configurations, WiFi planning, I did book learning on it, and not to the building of PC's and have neglected new technology, fully investing in the hermit lifestyle, until recently, this is what I've researched: New PC Specs Buying CPU: Ryzen 5 3600 GPU: ASUS Radeon RX 580 AREZ 8GB DUAL OC Graphics Card MOBO: MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX PSU: Corsair TR550M RAM: Kingston Hyper X Fury DDR4 3200MHz - 1x 16GB Microsoft Designer Mouse Bin Raking Finds HDD1: Crucial CT525MX300SSD1 CASE: Coolermaster K350, needs some repair but i'll use balsa wood, plastikote and a glue gun for that Monitor: 2x Phillips 1080p with HDMI Microsoft Greek Layout Keyboard Optional Extras Bluetooth & WiFi card(this may not work however, as I live in the basement of a thick walled granite building) although modifying it by adding a custom aerial is a possibility Possible Mods(when i'm feeling adventurous) Mini biltong box inside the case with a hygrometer, big enough for one steak inside the case All this for a grand total of £441.95 including postage seems like a good deal. Would this be sufficient for 1080p video editing, photo editing with some modern games like Max Payne, Sin and Minecraft? Possibly even CS:Go Your thoughts are very much appreciated and would help a lot

  3. Currently I'm working on build a ryzen 3900x build with X72 NZXT liquid cooling and a 2080 gigabyte graphics card. Does anyone know which motherboard is better for this build a X570 MSI Meg Ace or X570 MSI Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi?
  4. Hey guys, Old Gaming Rig CPU: i5-4690k MOBO: some GIGABYTE MICRO-ATX GPU: MSI 6GB 980ti Storage: 250gb Samsung EVO for OS, 1tb Seagate HDD , 2tb Barracuda HDD Memory: 16gb of DDR3 PSU: 700w Corsair GS700 i had this rig for around 3-4 years and everything was fine until i started experiencing some stuttering which i primarily noticed when i was gaming. The stutters seemed to happen once every 3-5 minutes and i remember them getting more intense around 2-3 months ago. Hardware Changed: I got tired of these stutters and decided to start changing some parts, my CPU was often at 100% usage when i was gaming and so i thought the stutters originated from this. So i purchased a Ryzen 3600x, an ASUS Prime x570-p, and 16gb of DDR4 G.Skill Trident Z. I also tried installing games from my HDD's to my SSD's to see if it was a HDD issue but the stutters also happened. I removed the 2 HDD's from my build entirely and am running with the 3 SSD's: 250gb evo, 120gb from amd, and 500gb Kingston. Once all parts were put in and functioning i started checking temps and tried gaming again and i quickly noticed the stutters had not gone away. I then went onto the next possible problem, my GPU. I bought a MSI 2070 8GB Armour and installed it in and tried gaming, and although my PC's overall performance greatly increased but the stutters are still happening every 2-3 minutes. New Gaming Rig: CPU: Ryzen 5 3600x MOBO: ASUS Prime X570-P Ryzen 3 AM4 ATX GPU: MSI RTX 2070 Armour 8GB Storage: (same one as old build)250gb Samsung SSD, (same one as old build)120gb AMD Radeon 7 SSD, 500GB Kingston SSD Memory: G.Skill F4-3200C16D-16GTZR Trident Z 16gb 3200 MHz DDR4 PSU: SAME ONE AS OLD BUILD - 700 watt Corsair GS 700 Software Based Tests done/noticed: - Fully wiped each drive and reinstalled a clean version of windows and started everything anew 2 weeks before buying the new parts. - In the performance tab of Task Manager and on MSI Afterburner every time i experience one of these stutters i see i dip in the GPU usage. - Used HWmonitor, MSI afterburner, Core Temp to monitor my cpu and gpu temps to and it never goes above 70 degrees Celsius when gaming. - I have run numerous benchmarks/stresstests with 3Dmark to see any problems and no stutters appeared. - I used a samsung monitor software to stress test my SSD's with no problems detected. - I flashed my BIOS to get the newest version from the MOBO's website. - Updated Ryzen drivers, Chipset drivers. - Followed a lot of online forums which said to change certain settings in the Nvidia Control Panel, to change timers using CMD, to change cpu performance modes to 99% instead of 100. - Used Display Driver Uninstaller in safe mode to uninstall drivers and install older drivers to no avail. What i think might be the issue So im considering changing my PSU because its literally the only part i haven't changed apart from my SSD's which i dont think are the problem because they seemed to pass the stresstests. I read somewhere that if the PSU isnt giving the gpu or other parts constant voltage or enough it can cause dips in the parts performance? However, i dont want to spend anymore money without a guaranteed fix because its been a pretty expensive past few weeks... hoping you guys can see something i haven't. Thanks for your help!!
  5. Hey there, I'm a university student (in the UK) and my current computer is letting me down a lot with running computational models and compiling code. Decided that I'm going to try building a computer instead of getting one off the shelf, I've looked at some components and the question is whether they'll be fit for purpose/good? Here's the list: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor CPU cooler: ARCTIC Alpine 64 GT 25.6 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-AB350M-DS3H Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: G.Skill NT Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-2133 Memory Storage: Western Digital Green 240 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GT 1030 2 GB Low Profile Video Card Case: BitFenix Nova ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA 600 W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply Currently budgeting around £600 Will be using a Windows 10 for students as the OS. Thanks in advance, Peter
  6. Hi there i want to build a new pc because my other one is kinda dead. I have a budget of 1500 - 1700 euros ( 1645 - 1930 us dollar) This is what i have so far: - MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X - Intel Solid-State Drive 660p Series 1TB - CORSAIR RMx Series RM650 - 2x Corsair Vengeance LPX 8gb ddr4 3200 - Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER GAMING OC 3X 8G - Be quiet! Dark Rock 4 - Corsair Carbide Series 270R I have my doubts with the cpu cooler because i am not planning to overclock so maybe the stock amd cooler is fine? . I like to play games at high setting and high fps and i do light video editting. Any tips about the cpu cooler or in general what i should upgrade or downgrade?
  7. I am looking to make a new PC build including an AMD Ryzen 9 9300X, ASUS GeForce RTX 2080Ti 11GB RGB but am having trouble finding the best parts. my budget is around £3000 but can go a couple hundred higher if needed. I'm looking for 32 gb of ram, and 3-5 tb of storage SSD and HardDrive preferably in the NZXT H510 Elite.
  8. Hey all, Looking to build a new PC for my partner (it's been a long time coming, the old one is toast). Haven't done a build in 12 years, and obviously a lot has changed since then! Primary use for us is for gaming; we play Skyrim, Kingdom Come Deliverance, War Thunder, and are highly anticipating the new Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord and Baldur's Gate III. Ideally trying to keep costs between $750-850 CAD. Don't need to run anything on Ultra settings, but getting med-high settings would be nice. Trying to keep costs realistic right now and get the best build for my budget. Thanks!!
  9. Hi! I'm planning on building a 24-core, dual xeon workstation later this week. With future plans to expand to quad-sli, watercooling. Also future plans to upgrade to dual 22-core Xeon E5-2699 V4 (although this is definitely a future future plan...) Was a custom build or a Mac Pro... so here we are! Would there be any interest in a build-log? If there is I'll be sure to document the journey! Also, any questions re the build or anything else feel free to ask below! George!

  11. Hi All, So I am wanting to build my first PC. To be clear I have had loads of PC's in the past , all pre-built and essentially ready to go. I am an XBox gamer and not really into the whole PC gaming thing. What I need is a PC that is future proof, and can have components either swapped out due to a fault or to upgrade in the futrue. I need a system that I can do programming with as well as general web surfing. I do a lot of Auto Cad 3D design and photo editing. At the minuet I am running a Raspberry Pi 4B, which is a great little unit, but as it is light weight I need something with a full set up so I do not get restricted on full programs. In advance THANK YOU!.
  12. Hello, I am currently looking to upgrade/update the house PC, this was originally bought in 2013, but I have bought parts for this through the years (new cooler, PSU, GPU) but the rest now needs changing. At this point, it will be like building a new system. This is where I need advice. The parts I currently have that I don't believe really need changing are as follow: GPU: GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X PSU: Corsair 750i Everything else is needed. This will be mainly a home PC for family, but I would also like the ability to game on it also. But also not to break the bank with this one, so I've tried to find reasonably priced parts. Around £450 is the budget on this. The parts I have already selected are as follow: RAM: Vulcan T-Force 8GB (2x4GB) 2400MHz CPU: i5-9600KF 3.7Ghz (Coffee Lake) Motherboard: Gigabyte B360 HD3 SSD: Green 3D NAND 120GB M.2 2280 SSD HDD: 1TB Barracuda Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Total: £412.90 I'm not that much of a computer person, and I've not kept up with recent products, so any advice or changes any of you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated. Like I said at this point it's basically building a new system with a couple parts I already have to work around. So any advice or ideas of parts that fit into my budget, that are better or more well suited would be a big help. Thank you!
  13. I decided to document my first pc build ever, after getting it fully assembled I went to turn it on and got absolutely nothing, no led's no fans spinnings. So I had to go into troubleshooting mode and all together probably spent 20 hours on building/troubleshooting/watching videos/and posting on forums. I couldn't figure it out so I had my dad come over, who's a master electrician to take a took at it and he spotted the problem in 2 seconds. I had only 14 pins of my 24 pin connector plugged in on my power supply side, while the 10 pin connector was just hanging there...won't make that mistake again. All together I spent just over $1400 before tax. I'm really happy with how it turned out and even though it was a pain in the ass, learning how to troubleshoot will be valuable in the future. Thanks to the people on the troubleshooting thread that helped me out. I also made a video out of it:
  14. Hi again Linus community ! I have recently been hired by Apple, as a result had to move all the way to Cork Ireland. I couldn't bring my entire PC with me, so all I managed to bring were my ROG Strix 1080ti, my 7 HDDs + SSDs, as well as my 32gb DDR4 T-Force RAM. Now, with that being said, I need to build a new RIG around those parts. I am in Ireland as I said, so all is in Euros, and very few online computer stores here and TAX is like 20% DANG! My budget is kinda low, not more than €1000 or below. So far I know what case I need to accommodate all my storage, the one and only Corsair Obsidian 750D Airflow + 2 HDD Cages. I mean it's the only case I could find that has us storage hogs in mind. With that said, need to mention that gaming would still be good with 32GB RAM n my Strix 1080ti both of which I already have. Now on to the build. Gotta say I have never used AMD CPUs before but Ryzen is way cheaper than Intel these days. I wanna build a Ryzen 7 - 3700x system, which after watching hours upon hours of videos, seems to be the all rounder CPU to get. As for Motherboard I wanna stay clear of Gigabyte as I had nothing but bad experience with them. MSI/ASUS or even AsRock would be great. I am slowly learning that x570 Chipset is what to go with as anything below, although they do support the 3700x I would need an older CPU to update Bios for it to work, which I do not have nor want to go through hassle of asking to be done. So x570 is what am stuck with. Also I will be having 10+ HDDs to put in there, so the more SATAs the Mobo has the better, although am getting a PCIe to 6x SATA card, still would be great to have. Finally, PSU, and CPU Cooler. For PSU fully modular Gold rated would be great, CPU cooler have no idea but an AiO should do... Check my idea lists below from Amazon UK, as you can see am stuck on motherboard. It's the thing giving me the biggest headache... Recommendations...... GO! My Current Idea Amazon UK List Extras I need
  15. Hi there! I am from Canada and I always wanted to switch from gaming laptops (yes shhh it's only GTX1050ti) to a full-Gaming desktop. Since after my credit went down due to stupid decisions (now solved), my only available option is this site. Is it worth it? I was comparing it to the BLD from NZXT and I feel like I'm getting robbed before tax. Thanks people! By the way I wanted to finance this. :)
  16. Hello, I'm planning to build my first PC instead of going with a prebuilt. I'm planning to pull the trigger during this week/next week, but would still prefer to have other people who have an idea of what they are doing to do a sanity and compatibility check on the setup I'm going for! A little background about me: I'm an university student on his 5th semester in Computer Science. The new PC is in no way needed for what I'm doing in my studies, for that my Laptop is more than enough. It has a I5-7200U and a Geforce 940MX. The thing is, I do own another prebuilt ACER, i5-3450 and a geforce 620 or something like that. And since my laptop is slightly better than my desktop, I haven't turned it on in a long time, and I've been using my laptop for gaming, which is killing it's battery... But even so, my gaming experience on that laptop isn't that great. The titles I try to play in a regular basis, it can handle them only barely (KSP or GTA 5), others, like Cities Skylines, it lacks the performance and is way too frustrating to enjoy, and other beefier titles that it can't even run (Project Cars). Thus, I actually need a better PC badly. Unfortunately, there is nothing that I can salvage from my current desktop, so a whole new system it has to be^^' For the last whole year I've been thinking about what I would like from my system and I ended up with the few next points: a) A system based around a ryzen 5 3600 and a radeon RX 5700 XT. That is at a price point that I'm comfortable with and anything that is any stronger starts getting into overkill territory^^' b) A quiet setup (Yeah, there will be lots of parts from Be Quiet!) c) Tempered Glass + RGB. Addressable on top of that, that can be controlled by the motherboard. 1. Budget & Location I'm from Luxemburg (middle of europe) and the currency here is the Euro. My location actually has a huge impact on the retailers I can choose from, as there is none in the country(that I know of) which sells PC parts, and even amazon is pretty often a pain with delivering to my country... in the end, I found this business that ships here, so I'll be getting all parts from there. As for budget, I'm pretty flexible, 3k being a value I simply cannot go over, and preferring to stay under 2K euros. 2. Aim The main aim of this system is gaming. The bare minimum I would like, is to be able to play GTA 5 at 60 FPS at high to very high graphical settings on a 1080 or 1440 panel(more about that on the next point). Being able to record my gameplay is a great plus, mostly because I'm starting to casually speedrun GTA. Other games I play/would like to play: KSP(single thread cpu heavy), Cities Skylines(multithread cpu heavy), Project Cars (GPU intensive?), minecraft (*shrug*). As for my studies, there is nothing in particular that I would need from this system. I do plan on try my hands on Overclocking this system, even though, I doubt I'll be able to push it far, mostly because of thermals. 3. Monitors Right now I own only a 1080p@60Hz panel. I do not plan to buy anything new right now, mostly because I'm waiting to have a better idea of what I actually would need. But most probably, I might go for a ultra wide, curved, high refresh rate, 1440p monitor during the next year. Right now, my current monitor is used as a secondary display for my laptop, which is highly helpfull while programming. But my current desk does not allow to have 2 separate monitors. 4. Peripherals For peripherals, I won't need anything at all. The keyboard, mouse and headset i own aren't great, but good enough for now. As for an OS, I need to check if I still get a free key for a Windows 10 pro for free as a student benefit. (This might have changed recently) In the end, I came up with this part list. PCPartPicker Part List CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor (€206.48 @ Mindfactory) CPU Cooler: be quiet! I'm going through my thoughts for each part. CPU Ryzen 5 3600: Good overall cpu for its price. High core count, which is great for game capture and some titles. Clock speeds aren't great, but it should be more than enough most of the time. In the end, the question is, is this cpu a bottleneck to a radeon RX 5700 XT? From my research, the answer seems to be no, but would still prefer someone else's opinion. CPU Cooler Dark Rock Pro 4: Huge. Ram clearance needs always to be checked. And I gave up on RGB RAM, as it would hide most of it anyway, unless I would move a fan to the back side of the tower. At 250W TDP it is more than overkill for a 65W TDP cpu. I'm banking mostly on the fact that this tower will already make a good job cooling the cpu while the fans are at low rpm. Noise levels are here my biggest concern. I would prefer to avoid AIO's here.(More points of failure, possibly more noise even when cpu at lower temperature because of pump) Motherboard Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming vs Asus ROG Strix X470-F Gaming: Here, the main source I used to make a choice for a board partner, was a rant video about motherboards made by BuildZoid. It was about x470 (as the x570 didn't exist yet). In summary, I got from it: MSI, great VRM cooling, lacks an interesting overclocking ability/setting. Gigabyte, very bad VRM cooling, if any at all, great bios. Asus, bad cooling on high-end boards, pretty cheap on VRM phases(thus, less reliable power delivery to cpu). What made me ultimately choose asus over the other was aura RGB, and it's ability to sync with compatible RGB peripherals. And I chose the x470-f gaming specifically because if was the cheapest asus board with aRGB headers(Something I would like badly). When Ryzen 3000der cpu's became a thing, The question arised about going for a x570 or not. I decided to go for it mostly because of two reasons: I cannot risk getting a x470 whose bios does not support ryzen 3000er cpu's. I won't have any way to flash another bios by my own, I don't know anyone who owns an ryzen near me. And furthermore, the x570 has better VRM and VRM cooling, which is more likely to handle the CPU. Having PCIE 4.0 was never a real selling point for me anyway, even less so considering the NVME storage I plan to use, as it could force whole motherboard to use just PCIE 3.0 protocols. Memory I'm planning to go for 2 x 8 Gb at 3200Mhz CL16. Because of the cooler, I gave up on RGB memory. In the end, the exact brand of ram used doesn't matter to me (I just like the look of trident Z RGB, but well, it will be hidden). I picked the ones above because they are way cheaper than other kits, and the only difference I can find, is on their timing. Finally, on Ryzen's Memory Compatibility List , i couldn't find this specific kit. Is that a problem or can I ignore that? Storage There isn't much to comment on the HDD. 2T, 7200 rpm, 256mb cache, seems to be good for it's price. For the NVME there are still some open questions though. From what I understood, using any device that is compatible with PCIE 3.0, will force all lanes into PCIE 3.0 protocols, and, even though this NVME just uses 4 lanes, it will still force GPU to use only half of the 16 lanes that the GPU could have used instead. The first question is then, considering those two points, would that bottleneck an RX 5700 XT? If yes, what are my solutions that are not going for a Sata SSD? Finally, I'm going for a 1TB NVME mostly to be able to have both windows and ubuntu on it, and on top of that, some of my most played games. (very bad experience dual booting on my laptop, as it has just 120 on it's SSD + 1T HHD. Storage on SSD is always a problem) GPU I would prefer a RX 5700 XT. Going for a 2070 seems to be a bit of a waste, mostly because I doubt that I will be able to make good use of it's performance. The exact card in question doesn't matter that much to me. I'll just avoid any blower design like the pest, as they are very ineffective, and overheating becomes a real problem on those cards. I chose the the Saphire Pulse since I've read only good things about that card. Case The Dark Base 900 rev.2 might be the second biggest sink of my money that gives no performance at all(right after everything related to RGB). And on top of that, taking into account a video done by Gamer Nexus concerning noise levels of a high airflow case vs a noise dampening case, a high airflow case with bequiet fans is the better option. But even so, while I was trying to create part lists under a strict budget, I would always try to force this specific case into it, making the rest of the build somewhat underwhelming. (This case in a 900€ Budget build? Totally not worth it!) In the end, I'm so fixated on that case that I fear that, if I settle down for a cheaper case, I'll just end up still buying the 900 six months later, and thus the money spent on the cheaper case would be wasted. The main reasons why I would like this case is: Style and Size. I do like the look of the one with the silver accents and the fact that it is huge (I might even been underestimating how big that it is...) Other features of that case are for the most part secondary, even though I do like the possibility to invert the case and the ability to expand storage (that goes well with motherboard and PSU). I am aware that airflow is an issue on BeQuiets cases. I just don't know if the airflow issue is big enough to impair the CPU's and GPU's that I'm picking. PSU Dark Power Pro 11 650 W: Here I avoided cheaping out. 650W seems to be way more than enough to power everything, also when overclocking. Maybe even 500W should be enough. Better power conversion and longevity of components are the biggest reasons why I'm ready to pay a premium here. The PSU, together with the case, might become two things I won't need to upgrade ever again, even in over a decade, even more so if I do not cheap out here. It helps too that it powers up to 8 sata storage drives, the exact same number of ports that the motherboard has. As for RGB, that will be the main focus of the Phanteks halo rings. I do like the crazy look of the bequiet fans when they are lighted by the aRGB halo rings. I might buy some aRGB strips down the line, and I'll be getting aura compatible aRGB peripherals. Pure RGB puke^^' As for the extra fans, I'm planing to replace the two at the front with the high rpm variants, and put 2 at the top and one on the bottom of the case. Anyway, thank you very much for reading this far! I'm open for any input, remarks and criticism^^ I actually need them badly to avoid making decisions that I would regret the moment I would get my system^^' Servus, Estti379
  17. 1. Budget and Location Additional budget: up to $500, but looking to keep it as value as I can. Got my GPU + PSU @ $599 US (inc. shipping and import fees). 18. My budget is as little as possible as I have to save, but am willing to save a little extra if need be, plus I want a Mini ITX to save space on my desk. The build that I chose is currently based around my Sapphire Nitro+ RX570 8GB, that I recently got for my an older pc that has an i7 2600, but I decided now rather to upgrade to a PC that I can also upgrade in the future. I believe that what I chose gives me the opportunity to upgrade my CPU and GPU in the furture. I would like some advice of if there are any parts I should consider changing (other than the GPU at the moment) or if what I have chosen is good enough for the time being to play most games on 1080p 60fps mostly High Settings? (Ps with my parts listed below I also currently own the 4tb HDD) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XDZDq3
  19. Hi everyone, I want to build a new PC. I already have the case as in the title Thermaltake Core P5 with acrylic Glass. I will use the pc for gaming 1080p on my AOC 32“ 1080p 144Hz gaming monitor. My budget is set to 1000€ and also want to have a nice look on the pc RGB MB, RGB water cooling, RGB RAM etc. So I need your ideas/advices which components should I get and should I go Intel or AMD for cpu. Thanks in advance
  20. Hey guys just need help to see if the parts i am going with for my upcoming build is good and if there are any bottlenecks. Your help is appreciated. 22. So I recently build my first custom build pc with the purpose of creatine a 3d model workstation. But now it keeps crashing every piece of modelling software I have. I thought it was maybe a memory problem but after running memtest86 i got no errors. My specs are: Cpu: Ryzen 9 3900x Gpu: MSI 2070s Gaming X trio Psu: Corsair RM750 Ram: G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600 Cas 16 Motherboard: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite Ssd: Samsung 970 Evo The graphics card, chipset and lan drivers and Windows are all up to date. The UEFI is still how it came out of the box (F3) and the memory is running at his stock xmp profile. Can anyone please help me, it's making me so sad.
  23. The TLDR version of this thread - I'm planning a new build from scratch and have some specific preferences for the motherboard: 6x SATA & onboard wifi in an mATX form factor. So far I've only found the Asus TUF-Z390 with wifi and... that's it. It will do the job, but I'd rather have other options to consider (the yellow/black colour scheme of the TUF boards is horrible), especially on the AMD side. Suggestions? If you need more details, please read on for the background... So my signature details both of my gaming builds - my original build from 2008 and its replacement in 2013. I've kept the old PC for an offline 32bit WinXP build, specifically to run my Win3.11/Win98 & 16bit games (my collection is something like 4-500 CDs/DVDs). The 2013 build was build with Win8 but took advantage of the free Win10 upgrade. The 2013 build is home to 28TB of HDD storage over 6x 3.5" drives and 3 SSDs totalling 2.5TB (1x 2.5" and 2x m.2 on a PCI-E bracket). My preference has always been to not go the NAS route, especially as network shares between the HTPC and gaming rig work well for my needs and adding another box seemed pointless for data I don't need remote access to. Both are full ATX builds and are in the UK. I'm now in California so moving either computer isn't possible for the time being (the Antec 1200 is 17.5kgs when empty). I'm therefore planning a replacement in the US. Budget is pretty flexible but I'm aiming to keep it in check at around $1k, not including GPU and monitor (since I haven't decided on whether to stick with 1920x1200 or upgrade to 2560x1440). The idea is to downsize the chassis but keep the options open to have as much storage as possible - therefore mATX is the best option for me. I'm also after a case that can sit on our new L shaped desk rather than on the floor (my UK rigs are on a wooden floor, it's carpet in SoCal). Main use will be gaming. I'm thinking of something like: Case - Thermaltake Core V21 CPU - i5 9600K or R5 3600X (obviously depends on the motherboard) Motherboard - ???? - at the moment only the aforementioned Asus board will fit. CPU cooler - thinking of an AIO as it's a PC that may end up travelling a bit, so a huge air cooler doesn't appeal. SSD - depends on eventual budget but bigger is always best for me, so a 2TB m.2 nvme drive PSU - Seasonic Focus Plus Platinum 650W (always willing to pay upfront if it helps keep the electricity bills down, which will help with the 4-9pm surge pricing we have to work around) GPU - depends on display but as I'm thinking of 1440p, probably the 2060 Super - don't need full max settings but something close is preferable. The 1660 Ti will probably cut it for 1200p. The Core V21 is the only locked component at the moment - it's an ideal case for me with 3x 3.5" & 3x 2.5" drive bays which should allow for 3x8TB and 3x4TB HDDs should I need them down the road. So I'm after a motherboard that will let me use all 6 mounts for storage drives (and 1, preferably 2x m.2 slots). As is probably obvious, I tend to rebuild every 4-6 years rather than constantly upgrade (apart from storage and GPU). CPU gaming/performance/price isn't the priority, I'm after the right motherboard to build around. Any suggestions welcome.
  24. Hello! I am looking at building a new Mini-ITX gaming system. Trying to keep it somewhat portable while keeping thermals down without actually going liquid cooling in order to be able to transport as my carry-on luggage when I travel. I am upgrading from my current system which isn't ideal or as powerful as I want. From what I have researched this new build should definitely out-perform my current setup. 25. Hello all, I wanted to ask the forums what would be the ideal build for my gaming needs. Currently, I'm on a 1080p monitor and will go to a 144hz monitor. I play games such as L4D2, Beamng Drive, Six Siege, GTA 5, Project Cars 2, F1 2019, BF1, BF3, BF4, BF5, FSX, Gmod, City Skylines, and CSGO. My budget is around $1700. Here are my potential builds: AMD: Ryzen 3700x, RTX 2060 Super OR used GTX 1070, 32 gb DDr4 NEO Trident Z rgb ram, Gigabyte x570 ultra mobo. Intel: Intel I7-9700k, RTX 2060 super or used GTX 1070, 32 gb ddr4 Trident Z rgb ram, Gigabyte Z390 ultra mobo. Note, the reason I put the used GTX 1070 is because my current laptop has the Max-Q version, which is able to play nearly all my games at 144hz and nearly maxed out. Now, I can get a used 1070 for around $230 usd. Would it be wise to go with the RTX 2060 super or GTX 1070 for my needs? Also, I understand that the 3700x beat the i7-9700k is certain things, but will it be good enough for gaming? This is me coming from an i5-4690k and AMD R9-390x. Thank you all!
