Hey all First off I appreciate how everyone helps everyone on here. Its a very welcoming sight/site lol So from the lurking I've done if I want something to play games on, do light video editing, use it as an entertainment device and hopefully some programming I should be looking at an X1? Maybe something from hidevolution?

So I am updating my 6 year old PC and I wanted to reuse some of the old parts within it. I’ll mostly be playing shooters or open world games (Rust, Escape from Tarkov, Rainbow Six Siege and Battlefield) I don’t know if I should trash it all and just buy a new gaming computer or do the following: Old setup: GTX 750 EVGA i7-4820k MSI X79-GD45 Plus 8gb of Ram 500 W Power Supply Parts from old PC that I plan on carrying over: i7-4820k 3.7Ghz not overclocked Msi X79-GD45 Plus 2 TB WD HDD Parts I plan on buying: 16 gb DDR3 Ram EVGA GTX 1660 Ti XC Corsair 650W power supply Dark Rock Slim to cool CPU (want air cooling) For case I was stuck between Corsair 275R or NZXT H500 500 GB Samsung SSD

Hey! Now this may seem like a silly question to ask but I am curious to find out if it is even possible. Can you extend your ethernet cables by simply plugging into a Ethernet jack from the wall into one jack upstairs? I assume they have to be on the same circuit? Is it even possible? I am currently running 100 feet of cable around my house and is just inconvenient. I would appreciate any other solutions. Thanks

Recently installed linux mint 19 on my PC under dual boot circumstances on separate drives (HDD and SSD). I have Windows on my other drive. I chose Mint for notoriously being user friendly to introduce myself into the Linux Community. Any Recommendations to long time Linux users for a brand new user trying to get into the open-source community as well. I am fairly knowledgeable on the topic, just haven't gotten myself into it until now. Thanks!

I am considering putting a 120mm aio (corsair H60) on my rx580 (powercolor red dragon) but im not sure if it will be sufficient to cool it. I assume it will be but i honestly just don't. I'm also wondering how it would preform compared to the stock cooler on the card. I'm not looking to necessarily increase thermal performance by doing this i just don't want to lose thermal performance.

Hello Everyone, Just wanted to say hello to everyone, I've been a big fan of Linus for a number of years and never thought about signing up here. I've recently just got a new PC so I'm getting back in to the swing of things such as gaming, media creations, etc.. I've owned a gaming community a few years ago before my son came along so I'm looking forward to seeing what's changed within gaming and what's "HOT" now. I'd say I'm a beginner when it comes to building PCs I know where everything goes, what connects to what and how it should work but I couldn't even begin to guess how to work out things like power consumption or the best clock speeds. *Thankfully most of it's done automatically now* If I could get anything out of being on the forum? It probably would be to one day talk to Anthony, If you watch the Linus videos on YouTube you will probably of seen my comments shouting Anthony out. I just feel he's so genuinely nice and wants the best for everything he does for himself and others which is a great treat to have. Oh and Hella smart. Haha After the babies arrived this is all the room I'm left with for my "toys".

Hi. I'm planning to build myself a gaming PC. This is my first time building any pc by myself and i was wondering are there any useful tips from you experienced builders that might help me? I have been watching various pc build vids by both Linus and austin, so i have theoretical knowledge what to do. Currently im at process of getting all the components for the build. Here are the all components for the build: Ryzen 5 1600x Asus b450m-k 2x 4 gb of g skill v series 2400mhz 500 w be quiet! Pure power 11 80+gold Arctic freezer one 33 esports Crucial bx500, 480gb Coolermaster IC essential e1 Sapphire pulse rx 570 4gb I have been paying alot of attention of compatibility, and i do have limited budget hence specific hardware. also few questions: I'm getting 75hz screen, do I need to get dp cable or regular HDMI will be able to push 1080 75? Would i be able to chain 4x 120 mm fans to single chassis fan header, since it appears there's only one header for the chassis fans? I ordered 3 splitters from aliexpress, dunno if it would work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Is there any easy method of finding out whether a retailer is selling a processor or any product that has been refurbished (used or potentially damaged). Quite new to hardware so sorry if this question is dumb.

This is my first ever build. Have a budget of $1000 and was wondering if the psu for this build (https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ashina/saved/HPYZf7) is enough or do I need a more powerful psu?

Hi! Pardon my introduction, please scroll to see the biuld I'm going for. I'm (Totaly) kinda a wannabe youtuber, or at least using that platform, and my instagram. I have recently wanted to creat for myself the perfect content creating workstation, for music, video, photo, editing, I'm an enthusiast photographer and will be expanding my tools in that field as Well. In the meantime for my computer ive decided to put together myself. It would be easier to just copy a unique biuld but that would take the fun out of learning about the minor details, for example, same chipset but different manufacturers. And I still dont know anything even after learning alot, which sounds like stupidity but I meant, now I have to clarify what my brain is processing and what worth remembering. Here are My facts: Limited experience biuld Gaming and workstation Price range $700-900 (desktop) Time, I can wait for sales. Now I have a reason for every single part/model listed, from the little i knew and the multitude of hours ive spent in "info gathering and comparing" I pitted: Power, Performance, price for value/Performance, reliability/life, user experience, user/official reviews, everything videos, market value/price fluctuations, benchmarks, brand history and research. Future development........etc....lol All I'm missing is my own personal experience which could give me a home base in preference and opinion. These prices fluctuate alot so thats not really my focus. Is this a decent biuld? Can I get better performance with a different biuld around this price? Does the price at the time of writing equal in value? If I was your best friend...(anythings possible :) and you saw this biuld what would you say about it? Please and thank you. CPU: Intel Core i5-9600KF 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor ($189.99 @ Newegg) CPU Cooler: Deepcool GAMMAXX 400 White 74.34 CFM CPU Cooler ($31.99 @ SuperBiiz) Motherboard: MSI MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($149.99 @ B&H) Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory ($69.98 @ Amazon) Storage: Corsair MP510 480 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($64.98 @ Amazon) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6 GB SC ULTRA GAMING Video Card ($229.99 @ Best Buy) Case: Cougar MX330-X ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Corsair RM (2019) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($104.99 @ Amazon) Total: $881.90 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-11-23 08:04 EST-0500 I plan to pick up but not included, operating system, sound card, HDD, cool chair, monitor, optical drive, extra case fan, headphones, mic, keyboard/mouse, although I researched these as well and I think I have a bearing on my preferences. So let's talk about builds. thank you.

I currently use a 4 year old, custom built, Sager gaming laptop with an i7 6700K, GTX 960M, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD+1TB HDD. Currently it powers this setup. I've been wanting to upgrade for a while but my new job gave me extra cash to finally go for it. Long story short I was going to buy an NZXT custom built rig, but while browsing Amazon saw a Threadripper 2920X on sale for under $350. I've had my eye on Threadripper CPUs for a while so, being the chronically impulsive person I am I bought it, (with accompanying motherboard), and started the process of learning how to build a PC while assembling a list of parts. (To all be bought on Cyber Monday to maximize on savings, if any.) My final build looks something like this: Corsair Icue 465X RGB Mid-Tower ATX Case Threadripper 2920X *Bought (Thermal paste as well) GIGABYTE X399 Aorus PRO Motherboard *Bought Corsair H100i RGB Platinum AIO (Turns out I don't need that thermal paste) 16GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance PRO RGB 3200MHz C16 RTX 2080 Super w/ Windforce fans by GIGABYTE Corsair Force Series Gen 4 PCIe MP600 500GB NVMe M.2 SSD (that's a mouthful) 960 M.3 Gen 3 PCIe M.2 from Corsair just like above. (you pay a lot extra for Gen 4 :/ ) Samsung 860 QVO 1TB SATA SSD Corsair 750 Watt 80+ Gold PSU Misc other stuff like a Commander Pro and a CyberPower UPS. My primary use case is Gaming, Streaming/Recording said gaming sessions, and editing the footage down into questionably watchable videos. (I will also be upgrading to a 1440p, 144hz monitor so keep that in mind) I have the multitasking bug so anything that lets me game, record games, watch YouTube, and be in discord at the same time because I run 3 monitors is always a plus. My concerns are these. 1.) If the PSU is 750W, does the UPS have to output that much? I would assume so, plus It should power a monitor as well as anything else I plug into it for surge protection and such. (probably a stupid question but I don't honestly know the answer.) 2.) Will the Threadripper run 3200 MHz RAM? I've seen it's allowed "base clock" speed is 2966 or something but I don't actually know what that means. Am I not going to get the full benefit of my memory if I continue with this or sill it support custom RAM speeds up to 3200? 3.) I know the Threadripper series are not "Gaming" CPU's, stuff like the normal Ryzen 3/5/7/9 run games much better. (probably due to their integrated graphics or something idk) But most of the benchmarks I've been watching were done with 1080 Ti's and my big $600 question is; Will buying a 2080 Super compensate for my lack of gaming prowess on the side of my CPU? 4.) A smaller thing but I've only been able to get osu! to run on my computer if I let it use integrated graphics. If I set it to use the GTX 960M then it straight up won't run. Since the Threadripper doesn't have integrated graphics is there a good chance osu! won't even be able to run on it? 5.) Is quad channel memory something I should be shooting for? I'm only getting 16 GB (2X8GB). Should I up that to 32 and get 4X8 or will that not really be beneficial for me? Should I just scrap the "whole thing," (CPU and MoBo), and just buy a Ryzen 7 3800X? (Same price (~350) and does better with games) Or is this a decent build for my use case, I just have to change some BIOS settings, (upgrade for Threadripper Gen 2 and RAM speed), and it should work as I expect it to? (144+ fps in most titles these days; CoD Modern Warfare, Apex Legends, Metro Exodus, League of Legends, CS:GO, and so on, top of the line video editing, multitasking galore, etc.) Minor disclaimer, yes, I know that RGB is more expensive, it's a personal choice. If I'm building my first PC it might as well look as pretty as I can afford. (at least I'm not buying a waterblocked GPU) Thank you for your time, Ben_R4mZ

Hello! I am the world's most indecisive when it comes to buying pc parts it seems. Anyway, here is my more or less final list: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor (kr2149.00) Motherboard: MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX ATX AM4 Motherboard (kr1190.00) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($98.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Intel 660p Series 1.02 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (kr1049.00) Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER 8 GB GAMING X TRIO Video Card ($573.98 @ Newegg) Case: Cooler Master MasterBox NR600 (w/o ODD) ATX Mid Tower Case ($69.99 @ B&H) Power Supply: NZXT E 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($139.99 @ Newegg) I live in Norway, and have chosen parts considering price offers etc. Got two questions: 1. There is a sale on ASUS ROG STRIX B450-E GAMING for about 25$ more than the Tomahawk Max - which should I go for? 2. With the rgb on the graphics card, memory and possibly motherboard and later fans, will they sync with the motherboard? Or do I need an external controller of some sort? Thanks!

Building 1st Computer! Any Advice Appreciated!
MePewPewYou posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Budget (including currency): around $1200 (if getting 3070) to $1400 (if getting 3080) Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming: Cyberpunk 2077, League of Legends, Call of Duty Warzone, Flight Simulator, Valorant, Horizon Zero Dawn Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'd appreciate any advice on different components that may work better or the such! Thank you! First Computer build! I want to build it throughout September and October. My thoughts were to buy an Nvidia 3080 when they are released and decide if I want to keep it or downgrade to Nvidia 3070. Hi guys i am Jajaj First my specs: CPU: Intel i5-4690 @ 3.5GHz #40C RAM: 24GB DD3 @800MHz DRIVE 1: Samsung SSD QVO 1TB @950GB DRIVE 2: Corsair Force 3 SSD GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER Motherboard: ASUS Z97k (i think) Second the machine has gone into its years (2014) and i want to give it a semi temporary boost for some blender rendering. So i alredy played a bit around (very gently because i dont have enough money for a new pc and deep down i have a fear that when i do something wrong in the wrong order that it will dispense the magic smoke and i still want it to live for another 3-4 years) I found out that the cpu ratio cannot go over 39 (idk why) and that i have to play around with the bclk frequency (while partially lowering the dram frequenc so they dont get overclocked) and with that i found out that a blk over 109 will make the pc not bootable i asked myself if it is the cpu voltage that i have to rise (normally at 1.16v) because i have seen people with 1.4v on the same cpu. I rised it up to 1.2v and it also dident work. Also can i even destroy someting that fast or are there safety mechanics? The turbofrequency is by default at 4 GHz and i want it to go to like 4.3 or 4.4 idk. So how should i go on and how can i test it if it is stable without having to fear that it may break any second? Thanks for your help PS: Please forgive my writing i am on mobile.
