Hi there, I'm from Australia, and I'm hoping for some guidance on increasing the storage on my MSi GX70 Destroyer laptop. When I bought the MSi GX70 laptop in 2015, it came with 1x SATA 2.5 HDD slot and 2x mSATA SSD slots: 1x mSATA slot: has a Plextor 256GB mSATA SSD (came with the laptop, still being used) - at least 10 years old 1x empty mSATA slot: I installed a Samsung 850 Evo mSATA SSD (still being used) - almost 10 years old 1x SATA slot: I recently installed a Crucial 1TB 2.5 SSD (brand new, installed 19th of November 2023) The 2x mSATA slots are on a "MS-16F33 MSI GT70 GT60 SSD Board Adapter" - is there an M.2 or SATA adapter that I can replace the board adapter with? mSATA SSDs from trusted brands are way out of my budget, and I've had no luck with M.2 to mSATA adapters, which leaves me with 2x options: Bite the bullet and buy Samsung T5's then open them up to retrieve the Samsung 860 Evo mSATAs inside Find a board adapter to replace the MS-16F33 that came with the laptop I would really appreciate help on this, thank you

Does anyone know what impendance the speaker of notebooks generally or in special the T530 thinkpad have? I want to do some audio mod on my T530 with instaling a DAC (Audioquest Dragonfly red) internally via an MSATA to USB converter and then solder a connctor to the internal speaker cables. I am not sure, that the speakers can work with a DAC that gives up to 2.1 watt and is made for high impendance headsets. In the specs it says that they want at least 12 ohm... So I am not sure... Reasons for this: I love my T530. I does run everything I need in a pc. It is very quiet and energy efficient. Love the display. It runs like 16 hours a day. Just the sound is very lacking. And after researching it is not just the speaker being small, but the sound solution in the post IBM area cheaping out on the Dac after the soundchip that makes the internal speaker sound worse than they must. So if it improves the sound a bid, I do not mind spending here. I just need to know if the speaker/dac combo can work without destroying the dac.

Trying to upcycle some m.2 SATA drives that were going to be disposed. I am running an older system. my mobo is dx58so and cpu is w3690. I have an empty PCIe 2.0 slot and I was wondering if I could raid 4 of the m.2 SATA drives on a card plugged into the PCIe 2.0 slot as a boot drive. (it has to be cheap, I am not running this retro build because I am a hipster). If it matters I have a GTX 1080 plugged into my other PCIe 2.0 slot. Not sure if it matters, but my SATA ports only run 2.0. My wife has a machine with DDR4 and NVME and I would really like to see the snappiness on my machine. (I am hoping it is not all from the DDR4). Anyone have any recommendations for a cheap (50 bucks or lower, used is an option) bootable PCIe card that can raid 0 4 m.2 SATA drives for a noticeable performance boost over SATA 2.0? (or have I seen too many Linus videos achieving crazy things?)

I am looking for a mSATA SSD with DRAM, something with a strong QD32 performance. Since I am planning to run VMs on the mSata SSD, I assume I need QD32 and not just QD1 only. Any suggestions? I am willing to go brandless names but with those SSDs, I don't know if they have any DRAM onboard.

I have a whole bunch of laptops ranging from 2006 to 2014, and I have no idea how many of them support msata, and none of their online documentation mentions anything on it. If I just get an msata drive, how much damage could I cause if I were to just put it in all of the laptops to see if any of them read it as a proper drive? considering I'm legendarily broke i don't have any plans on buying an mSata drive any time soon. But for anyone that does have experience, here's a (abridged) list of laptops I have that all have multiple ambiguous "mini pcie" ports Toshiba Tecra A9 (2007, Intel model, T7250) Dell Precision M6300 (2008, Quadro FX 3600m, T7700) Lenovo B575 (2011, AMD E450, genuinely too slow to use anyway) Toshiba Satellite S50D-a (2013, AMD A10 quad core with a dual crossfire GPU setup) Dell Latitude E6430 (2012, i5-3360m, Intel HD) All of these have third party disc drive caddies for another hard drive anyway, but it hink it'd be neat to have 3 hard drives in a laptop

Alright, here's a conundrum. I have a 128gb msata ssd I salvaged from an old laptop that was beyond repair (a whole other story). That laptop had an msata drive that no longer had any valuable data on it. So I wanted to use it as an external ssd for extra storage (bought an msata enclosure/adaptor). I tried to wipe out the partitions that it had (the os etc), there was an error (something about a corrupted partition table) and boom, the ssd was wiped. but now I can only see 60gb of the full volume. I tried checking disk management to see if there was an unallocated partition etc, but i could only see the 60gb space and nothing else. checked the properties etc, all seem to say that the drive only has 60gb. Need help. Thank you ? ps: I can use the visible 60gb just fine

Hi, i'm currently trying to upgrade a laptop and i want to add a ssd to it. I saw an empty port on the center of the motherboard with ssd labelled on it (see picture). I'm almost certain that this port is an mSATA port beceause i tried to put a pcie network card on it and it didn't showed up. The wierd thing about this port is that it is too small to put an msata ssd on it, it has only 29mm clearance and a mSATA ssd need 50 mm. I also have this pcie port that has the right length but it is a pcie port. What type of ssd can i put on it ?

Hi guys, I've just seen your video about RED mini Mags. I think you can try a mod with this product. It is a dual msata raid adapter, with raid 0/1 on board capability. it has sata and usb 3.0 (also 3.1 models available) to access the drives. Would be cool to see your solution!

Hi, I stumbled upon this old Sony Vaio that I would very much like to get back in shape. An upgrade like ssd or CD mounted hdd would be great. But, there's a problem. Being an old japanese laptop, this vaio has a lot of atypical parts that you wont see these days anymore, like mSata-like wi-fi module or this "wonderful" 60GB CF HDD. What upgrade route to choose and is it worth any hassle? Any good advices? P.S. Kingspec CF ssd is not an option. P.S.S I will try to put a x32 win10 in it.

So hey everyone. I have a few question I would love you guys to answer me if possible. My new motherboard does not come with these slots this I think is called msata if I'm not wrong. My ssd and my WiFi are connected to that. This is the WiFi thingy So basically I found this adapter online and I wanted to ask is it possible to buy 2 of those and hook them up via sata? I have 3 Sata l shape cables coming from my psu and 3 small l shaped cables lying around. these are the l shaped cables I'm talking about. Like I said could I just buy 2 of those and hook these up and make them run? Oh and the WiFi thingy has a black and a white antenna that I also have and I could attach it around somewhere in my case if those adapters work obvisouly. Also I have Windows installed on my ssd if I can't use that ssd kn my new mobo can I even start my pc because of no windows. I downloaded Windows 10 to my phone like 4.5 gigs 64bit is it possible to install it then to my hdd if all fails? Thanks in advance!

Hey! So, I was thinking of upgrading and old HP ProBook 440 G2 with an M.2 SSD. It's stated on the website that there is a M.2 SSD model. Mine came with HDD however. When I opened my laptop, I found this slot. Some says this is mSATA, some say this is 42mm m.2 slot. Can anybody please confirm this ? TIA

I have an mSATA/mPCIE port on my asrock z170m/itx-ac that used to serve for an mPCIe wifi card, but I've switched over to an USB wifi dongle that works way better. So I wanted to utilize it, and looked for an adapter with female USB 3.0 to male mPCIe. And this came out: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Motherboard-Mini-PCI-Express-to-Dual-USB-3-0-19-pin-Expansion-Card-Adapter-PCI-E/32807392982.html?spm=2114.10010108.1000014.2.1fac2dc5JBdd7f&traffic_analysisId=recommend_3035_null_null_null&scm=1007.13338.80878.000000000000000&pvid=e8cb5c0b-936c-4dbc-8758-9eeeb217998f&tpp=1 and different variants: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/wholesale-Mini-PCI-e-PCI-Converter-Adapter-hard-drive-converter-SPCA025/1548439777.html My main purpose is to connect a new USB 3.0 wifi dongle and Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0/3.1 Linux boot drives. I don't want them sticking out of my computer, and the USB 3.0 header in my mainboard is (obviously) already used by the front IO. I don't want to sacrifice that. 1. Have any of you guys used this? Could this be worth all this research and cost? 2. And, oddly, this particular set of adapters only appear on Aliexpress-Why would that be, and are they trustable?

I got a msata drive for next to nothing from a friend who just upgraded his own computer. My computer on the other hand is much older with an asus m5a99x evo r2.0 motherboard and does not support msata drives. I currently have my OS on a standard 2.5in 128 gb or so ssd. The msata drive i got is 256 gb. Would I be able to use a PCIe to msata like https://www.amazon.com/SHINESTAR-SATA3-0-Expansion-Express-Controller/dp/B077JP69XV/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1518019557&sr=8-2&keywords=pcie+1x+to+msata#customerReviews or a msata to sata III like https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-2-5-Inch-Aluminum-Enclosure-EC-MSSA/dp/B01MS6669V/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1518019713&sr=8-1&keywords=msata+to+ssd ? would one be better than the other? or would either of these even work and would performance be affected at all?

I have a laptop with two free mSATA ports. Today I bought one mSATA drive from a guy with the same laptop as I have. When I installed it in my laptop, I found out that I cannot initialize the disk through the windows disk manager. is there any way for me to get access to the drive? diskpart does not see it, but HD Sentinel and similar programs do - they can't do anything with it though. What can I do? Thanks in advance!

I found this Kingston mS200 240GB SSD going on sale tomorrow for only €50. That has to be a good deal for a 240GB SSD. I'm thinking of buying it, but the fact that it's mSATA has me concerned. I've never dealt with this form factor/interface before. I looked it up a little and it looks similar to M.2, but without PCIe support. Some mess with the contacts and electrical connections. I can't really seem to get a good understanding of it. I checked my MB and it has an mSATA slot, so it would work, right? I have a new PC planned in a few months (not before Volta releases, most likely soon after) and I was thinking I could just buy this now, start using it right away and then take it over to the new build later on. But I also saw something about mSATA being pushed to the side by M.2. So, does mSATA still appear on new motherboards/platforms or would I need an adapter? Is an additional SSD really worth it if I already have 120GB 840 EVO + a 2TB HDD in my build? It wouldn't be the main SSD in the new build.

What's the difference between Samsung 850 Evo 250gb ssd MZ-75E250BW and Samsung 850 EVO M.2 MZ-N5E250BW SSD The first one has a temperature gaurd protection and is available for 13$ lesser than the second one. Is there any difference in performance other than the size of both SSDs

Hello. I have this SSD, se pictures. Looking it up, it comes up with it being an msata SSD. However, when I try to find an adapter they don't seem to have the correct pins, or even the correct screw position. What am I missing? does anyone have any idea of an adapter that might work? Thank you for taking a look

Hello. I have a Dell Inspiron 15r Special Edition (7520). I am looking to upgrade the storage to an msata drive. However, I see in the owners manual that the laptop only supports up to 32gb of msata storage, however this laptop is from 2012. I am trying to find out if I can get an msata with say 250GB of storage for this laptop. Does the motherboard support more than 32GB of data and 32GB was just as big as msata's got back then or could it support more? I would ask tech support but the service tag is gone from the laptop.
