I want to know the difference/benefits between 4k blu-ray and 1080p blu-ray. Specifically, does that compression to squeeze the 4k movie onto the same 1080p blu-ray disk reduce the quality to inhibit the potential and desired gains of a 4k movie? Are 4k movies really worth it, yet? I purchased the xbox one s this past weekend, to discover my samsung tv doesn't quite support the quality of 4k it wants to do (10-bit). Samsung has been very vague in the super detailed specs, but it's rumored and assumed that my TV model line is only an 8-bit panel (and after researching more on what the bit's really mean, I'm starting to believe it is from how I've noticed colors and shades over time). I Had upgraded to the xbox one s just for the 4k video, but my TV fights me to allow me to watch my 4k movies discs in that gloried 4k resolution. When I finally got it to work, I was not as wow'd as I expected to be. This might be an issue with my TV, it could be due to the rumored "fact" that most of movie's today have only been shot in 2k and are being professionally upscaled to 4k (so I could be noticing the 2k quality being forced to a 4k image), or perhaps our current blu-ray discs just weren't meant to squeeze four times the movie size on to the same disc. Does anyone have some light to shed on this? Or any corrections for me? Am I being dumb in some of my statements? I'm open to being enlightened.

So a friend of mine sent me the YouTube for deleted scenes from Avengers: Endgame. But I wasn't able to watch it for more than 10 seconds. Since as soon as I started the clip, I noticed an Alpaca in front of Tony Stark's Cabin, and it just kind of struck me. WHY IS THERE AN ALPACA IN FRONT OF IRON MAN'S CABIN!? It's so random, I think my brain is melting trying to make sense of it.

Hi! I am a big movie fan. I love to watch movies with my built in blu-ray player on my pc. I have a 60hz asus monitor (VP278) which is a gaming monitor. There's a setting called "trace free". I'm not sure but I think that's basically the same thing as motion smoothing which means it does smoothen and strenghten the motion blur. This setting is set on 60 (you can choose between 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100) by default. My question is: What settings should I use to watch films, which are filmed in 24 fps? Which trace free setting should I use? I appreciate every answer and thank you in advance!

I have been thinking about buying a 7.1 home theater with dolby atmos and dts to watch movies, play video games and listen to music from my pc. I found this home theater and it looks great Onkyo THX Certified 7.1-Channel Surround Sound Speaker System Black (HT-S9800THX) seems to meet what I'm looking for and offers me interesting extras like airplay and chomecast. To activate the dolby atmos I have to change the configuration to 5.2.2 ch is fine for me. But well this is my question the home theater I will use it only on the pc and I was thinking how I should connect it to my pc to be able to use everything that the home theater offers me I would like to play the games in surround 5.1, 7.1, 5.2.2 that support dolby atmos, true hd, pro logic 2 etc. and of course also the movies. These are the specifications of my computer in case it helps them to solve my question easier Corsair Vengeance Led Red 16gb Ram 3200mhz AMD Ryzen 7 1700x Processor 960 Evo Samsung M.2 500GB SSD EVGA SuperNova GS 850 Watts Gigabyte AX370 Aorus Gaming K7 GTX 1080 ti aorus the monitor I use in displayport to be able to use gsync and to 144hz the sound of the motherboard Supports Creative® Sound Blaster X-Fi MB5 Double ALC 1220 on the front and 120dB SNR HD Audio with dual headphones with smart amplifier on the back So summarizing my question how I need to connect the home theater to the pc and take advantage of the surround of dolby atmos and dts in games and movies? Do you recommend buying a sound card to get the most out of it? and if so, which supports dolby atmos and 7.1, 5.2.2 channels? I've already searched for some sound cards like this one: Creative Sound BlasterX AE-5 Hi-Resolution PCIe Gaming Sound Card but I do not know if support it. what I mentioned what i should do ??? Excuse my English and extend the question in advance thank you very much.

I hope this is in the right channel. I used to be able to watch DVDs and Blu-Ray movies on my G73Sw. Tonight, after a long time, I wanted to watch some of those movies again - the drive does not register the discs. All are original discs bought at registered DVD/ Blu-Ray sellers, and used to play on VLC media player. King Arthur, Robocop, Jack Reacher. Now they seem to be silenced. My computer uses Windows 7 Ultimate 64. The drive still reads my program discs and small-name movies, but the big brands that used to play, now suddenly don't register in Explorer or VLC. Does anyone know what has happened in the past few months, that previously working parts and programs, suddenly seem to refuse to cooperate? (EDIT: the term U/S is what we used in the military to indicate UnServiceable)

Hey All,I have several DVDs and Blu-Ray movies that I don't use much anymore. Mainly due to the fact that I don't have an optical drive and it's pretty inconvenient.I've done research and I heard handbrake is able to copy the media from DVDs/Blu-Ray. The video I watched is linked at the bottom.I have empty bays in my computer case and I thought why not.I just don't know which optical drive is best. Any suggestions? Here is my case: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8bbp99/nzxt-case-caph820w1Here is my motherboard: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/3XvZxr/asus-motherboard-z170deluxeI'm running Windows 10.Thank you in advance!

Hey all, So I have a new dilemma going on. My current setup consists of a ryzen 5 3800x (no, I got it for the price of 3700x), ex 5700 xt, 16gb ram. And I used to have 3 27"s aand a 24" tilted down from the middle. Recently I wanted to change that for bigger monitors. I tried 32", 34" UW, and then a 49". I returned all of them but I really liked the 49" as I'm waiting for my refund to hit my amazon account to get the Samsung one (had a viotek but it had some sort of static noise when on) - just dont know if the extra 350+ is worth for 1440p. The viotek was just fine for me. Anyhow, now that I settled on the 49", i was gonna stack 2 of them but then i decided the cost is just now worth it so I'd rather have a single 49" but with a TV on top. This is where the issue comes as I'm not sure what tv to get. I looked at Samsung's QN55LS03RAFXZA Frame 55-Inch QLED 4K (6ms under 1440p@120hz - rtings), and the Q80R - about the same specs. Now a couple people suggested me LG's C9 (future-proof with HDMI 2.1 etc) and others brought up the new tv/monitor LG is working on, the 48CX. I'll be using this display for well, everything except FPS games. Including trading. What do you guys recommend? Do you use a tv as a second screen? What is it and how has it been for you? Thanks. PS: I'm thinking about putting my 24" (it is a gaming monitor) on a side arm and if I need it to play fps, itll just drop from the side into the middle of my desk.

So in the spirit of the What Are We All Listening to thread, I'm curious to see what movies and shows we're in the midst of watching? To start last night I watched the best movie in all time and space. 9

I have a second computer that I run all the time, let's call this PC server. The server is running Windows 10, and for specs it currently has: -a 4th gen i7 -16gb ram -1x wd 2tb red 5400HD -1x 256gb SSD boot drive I use this PC for 2 things. Running a 4k media server which is accessible from any tv and PC. i also use the server as a network storage for my computers. (Future plan is to set the PC up as an ftp server using filezilla, aswell so I can access my files from anywhere with my laptop) I've only had 1 problem so far a couple 4k movies have had to buffer mid watch. Every PC and tv are wired direct ethernet to a network switch. Im not sure what the bottle neck in this set up is? Come black Friday my goals are to add 2x 1tb SSDs in raid 1. This will be for file storage. 4x 2tb raid10 WD reds for movie storage. I also have an SSD that has windows on it putting me at 7 sata cables. I will need to run a raid card. What do you guys recommend. Don't need anything fancy, but might want to upgrade the raid 10 thou. Just some knowledge questions: - when streaming a movie on a tv from the server, does the tv process the video or does the server process the video first. Thanks in advance, I know I asked alot of questions.

"Metro 2033 film has been cancelled because the scripter wanted to 'Americanize' it" https://www-pcgamer-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.pcgamer.com/amp/metro-2033-film-has-been-cancelled-because-the-scripter-wanted-to-americanize-it/?amp_js_v=a2&amp_gsa=1#referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From %1%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pcgamer.com%2Fmetro-2033-film-has-been-cancelled-because-the-scripter-wanted-to-americanize-it%2F I just saw this and laughed. For once a content rights holder sad no to Hollywood money. I wish more were bold like this. I feel like content creators and right holders often sell out in attempt to get rich quick, but it feels me with hope to see someone smaller saying no. Hopefully this will lead to a new wave of vg movies that actually tell the story that made the game good.

Hey guys, since yesterday somehow VLC player won't output any voices in movies. When I open a movie I can hear the music and effect sounds only and I noticed when I turn my volume on max. I can hear voices of actors very quiet only. Did I click something wrong? How can I set this back? I even reinstalled VLC with resetting the setting and nothing changed! Thanks in advance!

Hi guys, I currently have this setup: - USB Headset (irrelevant here) - Integrated Audio from a decently old Mainboard - Win10 - Teufel Concept Power Edition 5.1 System - 2600K on a p8z77-v - GTX 1070 (irrelevant here) My problems are: 1. Realtek Audio Problem (Software) - limited audio options - no upmix that uses more than two sattelites and a half of my sub 2. sound could be improved but is decent enough but has a little interference while pushing my PC 3. dont know if possible, but I would like to split the sound from different processes to different outputs. The most important thing would be the upmix then the splitting and the quality of the audio outputs. The Sound quality improvement can be done with ease when i upgrade to any other solution than onboard sound, even if the p8z77 is pretty ok. The most of the gaming is obviously done on the headset and the Teufel System is for Music and sometimes Movies. The budget would be up to 100€(150CAD/115USD) for each covered feature. Any suggestions are welcome. Any solution outside of my PC would be welcome, too.

Summary Netflix has made 10 movies and tv shows available for free. You dont even need an account to watch the content. The entirety of the movie will be available. However, only the first episode of the tv shows are available. A 30 second skippable ad will be played before each new title; from what I can see, the ads are for other netflix content. This is not the first time that Netflix has experimented with free content, in the past they have made some documentaries and series available on YouTube along with random movies and series being free for short periods of time or in select locations. This time, it appears to be much more widespread and permanently available. They can be viewed on any pc or android browser, ios is not supported. I have gotten safari on iPados to work though. The website is: netflix.com/watch-free The full list of content is: Quotes My thoughts This is a good thing but not exceptional. I could see people watching the movies but I dont see much reason for only the first episode of a series unless they were specifically eyeing that show and now they get to try it before paying for a subscription. So, I have been looking to buy a 21:9 monitor for productivity (to be able to see more of my timeline while editing amongst other things) but I am facing a dilemma. I found a good monitor the LG 29WK500 (there is also a HDR version, but idk if it's worth it), but I was wondering if there was any way to play BluRays or movies in general (on Netflix for example) at the native 2569x1080 resolution. Do any of you have a way?

Hey Guys and Gyals of the LTT community, I was wondering if anyone knows of a really good software for streaming/downloading movies and tv shows. Of course it has to be free (as I am poor and cheap). But I want to know if there are any out there that don't destroy your computer with all the virus and spyware bs. Thanks

What are some of your favorite movies? You can make a list if you want. Please only include movies (No TV shows plz). Some of my favorite are; 1. Ready Player One 2. Guardians of the galaxy 2 3. Guardians of the galaxy 1 4. Arrival (2016) P.s. Keep in mind that this is my first post so don’t yell at me for doing something wrong.

I've got fed up with iTunes as my movie source. Netflix is a ripoff in the UK and Prime video doesn't support AC3 pass-through. My only option is BluRay. Can anyone recommend the best way to play them with full DTS/Dolby support? I'm using an old PS3 at the moment but the drive is dying on that. I'm going to get a BluRay drive for my PC. When i bought one a few years ago the PowerDVD that came with it only supported stereo sound. I have had them working in VLC but that a pigging nightmare with BluRay. So what i used to do was MakeMKV and play the files in VLC. Is that still the best option? i was hoping not to have to have countless huge file on my comp. Just wanna put in a disc and watch the film
