  1. I'm trying to build a new system with an AMD ryzen5 2600 and wanna use GALAX GeForce GTX 1660 Super 1-Click OC 6GB GDDR6 just cant find a good motherboard which can support this generation cards. could use help.
  2. So my laptop has been having an issue. The inner sata port doesn't read anything that is plugged into it. Is this fixable or not?
  3. I'm planning on getting Asus ROG strix Z390-F motherboard and I currently have Cryorig R1 universal CPU cooler. I was wondering if the motherboards heatsink /IO Shield part will interfere with the cooler since it is quite massive. I couldn't find definitive answers anywhere. Help would be appreciated :)
  4. Upgrading from i7-7700k to i9-9900ks and, as the thread title suggests, i'm looking for field-tested recommendations. Happy to provide more details of the rig if that helps with close calls...
  5. I've been planning out a custom build for a little while. Basically Halo themed because I've always been a big Halo nerd. I stumbled onto this product. It's a g1/4 plug that's been fitted with a thermal probe. I figured it would be a good way to monitor the system. But I've been looking around to see if it will work with the x299e-ITX/ac and I haven't been able to find an answer. It's not a necessity, but it would be nice. I found the motherboard manual online here. There seems to be some useful information on the layout of the board on pages 6-9. I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for though. This is my first full-system loop so I'm sorry if I'm a little inexperienced with this.
  6. So here is the thing..... I want to replace my old 7th gen computer into an i7-9700 and this CPU is just confusing me. I checked Intel's CPU compatibility site and they are saying that only ASRock, Asus and Gigabyte are the only ones that are compatible with this CPU. So I decided on Gigabyte H370 HD3. But when I see manufacturers site for this particular motherboard, it says I need to flash BIOs to newest version for that CPU to work while Intel says it requires Min F1.0 version. So you are telling me that if I buy this motherboard I wont be able to boot into BIOS and flash it from inside to the latest version? I don't want to buy additional CPU from 8th gen. Should I go with MSI Z390-A PRO where according to the Internet it should work right-out-of-the-box. Even though it is not listed in Intel's Compatibility list....
  7. I have a HP Pavilion p6-2050a Desktop PC and I was wondering if the motherbaord which is a (Pegatron Corporation 2AC2) can be moved to a different case specifically to a Aerocool Quartz Blue Tempered Glass Mid-Tower ATX Case
  8. Hey guys i need some help. A PC I built isn't ouputing sound through hdmi. I've installed multiple drivers, reinstalled the os, hell I even sent the board in for RMA. Nothing is working. Any suggestions? build Amd ryzen 3 2200G Asrock X370 gaming Itx/ac intel 660p ssd 16 gigs gskil aegis ram 2400
  9. ive recently pulled the trigger and impulse bought a ryzen 9 3900x when the store i was at had one in stock. now im in the process of figuring out the rest of my build. the motherboard my friend has suggested is the msi b450 gaming pro carbon ac but currently, every store i look doesn't have it in stock, so im looking for suggestions on how to complete this build. currently stuck on what motherboard and ram to pick. also bang for the buck is what im looking for, not trying to break the bank more lol. I don't need wifi but it would be a plus (currently running none wifi build) i dont overclock i use the easy overclock my motherboard offers (p67 sabertooth) and my current gpu is rx480 sapphire nitro 8gb (will probably use until i save for another overkill gpu to add to my cpu) id appreciate the help.
  10. Hi guys, I hope I´m not bothering you with yet another Ryzen 3600 thread. I´m looking to upgrade my PC since my original CPU died and I wanted to get the last bit of performance out of my RTX 2060. Now I´m looking at a myriad of motherboards and have no idea whether I really need something as expensive as an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max, or if a cheaper one will suffice if I wanted to do no manual overclocking or anything. I´m planning on building the following PC: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 MB: ? GPU: Geforce RTX 2060 RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-3200 CL16 Cooler: Scythe Mugen 5 [Rev. B] Would appreciate any help you could provide.
  11. So I’m looking into upgrading my motherboard (currently a Gigabyte G1 Sniper B6) and I was looking for a better motherboard (one with more lighting options and a better chipset for overclocking.). Does anyone know of any good 1150 socket motherboards for 4790k?
  12. Hello, I'm a first time builder. I'm moving after I build my PC so I want it to fit in my carry on bag. That's why I think I'm gonna build inside a Micro ATX case but I want an X570 Mini ITX MOBO cause I think they are better than the current Micro ATX ones. My current specs are: PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BVvZgw CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-L9i 33.84 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: ASRock X570 PHANTOM GAMING-ITX/TB3 Mini ITX AM4 Motherboard??????? I would also like to add a second monitor down the line. I don't know if I should go for the Gigabyte or ASRock Motherboard. Any recommendations? Should I go for an ATX build? Thanks a lot!
  13. Hey LTT Forums! Looking for some help and ideas considering my build for my next PC that I'm going to be building this month. The goal is to do a "White" Build, I am having trouble choosing a motherboard to match this build. I still haven't decided to go AMD or Intel, I love the new 3000 series from AMD but have always gone with Intel in the past. I plan on mostly gaming/streaming with editing as a side hobby. I want the computer to be able to do it all, price isn't too much of a concern. I just feel overwhelmed at choosing motherboards and it doesn't seem like manufacturers really make them White anymore. I have considered painting it white as an option but would need a helpful guide before I did it on my own. Willing to take suggestions on other parts as well! 14. Recently had to do a factory reset on my PC due to some issues I was having. After installing Aura to control the lighting on the motherboard it is only controlling the graphics card not the motherboard. I've noticed this programme is different to what I had installed previously (Separate programmes for the graphics card and motherboard). Can someone help me with this or supply me with the previous motherboard version of Aura, as this is no longer available on Asus' website. Thanks in advance!
  15. All, I'm trying to inquire about any issues that anyone else may be having with the ASUS prime x370 pro board. I have gone through 3 boards in 2 RMAs and I'm not making any progress. Here is the list of steps that I have taken over the past few months. My original build, January 2018 Asus x370 pro motherboard, Ryzen 1800x @4.00GHz, 2x8GB 3000MHz GSkill Trident Z RGB RAM @2933MHz, EVGA 850W PSU, EVGA 1060 3GB FTW GPU, Samsung 960 pro Nvme, and various other drives. I built the computer as a school workstation/gaming rig. After about 15-16 months of using it I bought a new EVGA gtx 1080 ti for a steal at $500. Eagerly I installed it and ran into crashes with Origin games, I called EA and went through troubleshooting and realized it crashed on 3d mark and other games. I used it for schoolwork for about a week until I ran into the issue of it blue screening when I ran a simulation involving my research (I’m a computer engineering researcher at my university).Thinking it was my new graphics card I put it in another computer and flogged the living crap out of it for 3 days without any issues. After all updates including firmware I backed up all important files and started my windows 10 repair. Eventually I got to the point where I had installed Win 10 at least 5 times and installed Ubuntu 18.04, Ubuntu 16.04, Windows Server 2016, and Windows Server 19 all on the x370 board. All had the same issue no matter the driver and graphics card combination. I spent at least 10 days trouble shooting with my coworker to try and figure out which component was faulty swapping in various processors and boards with different graphics cards including my 1060 and a quadro p4000. I proceeded to test ALL of my other components on an asus b350 and a $40 asrock a320 board that I use at work as a drive copy machine that runs my nvme on crystal disk at over 3600MBps. My board was only running at 760MBps. I tested my components on a coworker’s gigabyte x470 as well and it worked fine. I talked with EVGA and they said that it could be my PSU that is causing issues with the gpu so I sent it back to EVGA without any issues and received a new/refurbished one in about 5 days. Put it back in and guess what, same issues still continued. Turns out the nmve slot was only using 1 pcie lane instead of the 4 it was supposed to have. Turned off the asmedia controller in the chipset and I got my 3000MBps read but it was a problem since I lost lanes on my GPU as well. So I sent the board back to Asus. I paid $20 for shipping (understandable not upset about it at all). 1st board and RMA- After I sent the board back I realized that I had issues with the board running slow and it was extremely difficult to get the RAM above 2133MHz on the ASUS Prime x370 board (I know that ryzen gen 1 was hard to get over 3000MHz). After they received the board I kept getting phone calls 1-3 times a day saying “We have received you board and it is in the process of being repaired.” I don’t mind a status update but when it’s on average 2 times a day for a week and there is no change from the previous call it gets annoying. 2nd board and RMA- All in all I received my second board since they were unable to repair it and swapped it for a new one. I plugged in my new board and Nothing happened, IT WOULDN’T EVEN POST. I thought I fried my 1800x so I put in my 2400g from my server and nothing happened, put my 1800x in the other board it worked just fine. I again tested all of my components in the other systems I had available to me and they all checked out. Called ASUS and said that they sent me a bad board, they said that I needed to pay for shipping. I argued for about 30 minutes saying no that they sent me a board that was DOA and I don’t think it is right that I have to pay to ship a product that they outright failed to check before they sent it out to a customer. I asked if I could pay the difference and get a hero VI x370 board that had the reset cmos button and bios rollback and they said they couldn’t do it. They asked what steps they needed to repeat the problem I responded with, “Just plug it in and see.” I wasn’t able to send the board for 2 or 3 days due to my busy school schedule. I finally sent it out and still received daily reminders for 2 days after I shipped it. I thought it was odd that they kept asking me for the tracking number even though they sent me the shipping label. I waited again for 2 weeks, 3 days shipping both ways and 10 days for “repairing” which was again another swap. 3rd board and my current situation- I received my third board on 7/20/19 and wasn’t able to install it until Monday. I plugged it in and it posted. Noticed it looked odd, NO RGB. It’s not that big of a deal I had this problem before after a bios update and fixed it by disabling the RGB in the BIOS then enabling it again. This didn’t fix my RGB problems and I called ASUS to see if there was something that I could do. I received an email that gave me a step by step of what I had already done, Update bios install Aura sync again ect. I continued to test the system with my school programs and some games and at the time of sending the email I was unable to get the computer stable enough to run any simulation or benchmark. I responded with the following on Tuesday morning at about 10:30 eastern time. John, Thank you for the call and email. I regret to inform you that your steps did not resolve my RGB issue. Also more importantly I am having an issue with all VGA cards. I have three different cards that I tried, EVGA 1060, EVGA 1080ti, and an NVidia Quadro 4000; all cause my applications to crash. Applications such as games, video rendering, and compiling code for my school work thesis. This is the most trouble I have ever had with a computer. I have again, same as after the previous two RMAs tested all of my components on other systems as well as swapped in other components to my 3 different boards. I took my RAM, CPU, GPU, and PSU and connected them to an ASUS B-350 and a $40 Asrock A-320 board that outperformed the higher end chipset that I have now had three of. I am unable to complete my school work at home and have to travel 45 minutes to my research lab to work on my thesis. I have done all BIOS updates and left the settings at default. I have looked online to see if there is something to change in the BIOS that will not cause it to crash. I have reinstalled windows on various drives, I had it set up in a dual boot with Ubuntu 16.04 which also had problems when using the Vulkan drivers for linux (which eliminates the possibility of driver issues) I also flogged my components with a different board on a benchmark for over 72 hours and they all checked out. I am working on an AI system for autonomous vehicles for my research project and I have now lost 6 weeks minimum on the shipping and “repairing” (which was just a swap) that have taken place due to the previous RMA’s. Please help me with some steps that I can take just in case I left something out or overlooked a potential error. I didn’t receive a reply so I called them 48 hours after I sent the email and my ticket was escalated a few hours later since they “had a problem with their system” when I called at 11:00 eastern time. I know it is just RGB but how would you feel if you bought a new car and the radio stopped working? As of today 7/26/2019, I messed with it some more and did a roll back on the chipset driver and I’m now able to get the computer to work as intended without RGB though. I’m afraid that the RGB runs through the chipset and it is just a matter of time before it breaks again. Asus called me about 24 hours after they escalated my ticket and I walked him through this entire page or two of what I have done including all components that were in the computer at one point or another with the result of each. I was told that they are talking with the product engineer to see if any of it was incompatible. I do not want another ASUS prime x370 pro board since they clearly have quality control issues. I will be more than happy to take them up on a refund, higher end x370 board that hopefully was binned better, or maybe an x470 board. At any rate I will not be purchasing another ASUS product for personal use, work (I’m a LAN Admin at a company of over 100000 employees and have already passed this along to the other IT employees), or for my research (I’m a graduate student doing research in AI and neural networks in my schools digital and computer research lab) for a while. This was actually an issue because I wasn’t able to do research for my thesis at home and had to travel about 45 minutes to the lab to get any work done. I’m fortunate enough to have built another similar computer that is able to do some of the required work that I have to do but it isn’t the monster system that I built to run simulations in a time efficient manner.
  16. Hey guys DVI doesn't work fine I know that mobo is not best but the reason, why I combined, is that mobo comes with AIO liquid cooler in sale for 99€.. pretty good deal but the problem is dvi-d didn't work usable.. I mean signal after few secs goes black flick and for few sec does "old tv no signal" you know what I mean.. Using 5 different DVI-D to VGA adapters and no one working.. my teacher lends me a WORKING adapter but with my pc don't work.. omg I spend over 20€ for adapters Problem on the video down below ltt forum dvi.mov ltt forum dvi.mov ltt forum dvi.mov ltt forum dvi.mov ltt forum dvi.mov ltt forum dvi.mov CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 2200GGPU: VEGA 8RAM: HYPERX PREDATOR 3200MHz 2x4 GBMOBO: ASUS TUF x470-PLUS GAMINGPSU: EVGA 500BQCASE: Cooler Master MasterBox Lite 5 RGBHDD: Western Digital Blue 1TBCPU COOLER: Wraith StealthOS: Windows 10 PRO NEWEST UPDATES ARE INSTALLED!!! 17. Is it possible to use 1 graphics card on 2 different motherboards without removing it every-time to use it with another machine. Like a pcie switch (basically do that whole thing using a switch) Don't know much about these stuff, just curious ?
  18. So recently, my primary rig was DESTROYED, due to my little cousin spilling water all over it, so I brought out my mid end gaming rig. I realized that it still has a 1st gen Ryzen 1700X, and a B-350 plus motherboard. With the release of 3rd gen Ryzen, should I buy a X-470 motherboard and use my 1700X until it burns out (then get a ryzen 3rd gen) or should I just go for the X-570 and splurge on the new 3900X.
  19. This is my first post here on LTT forums. If this came up already, I didn't see it. My apologies. I've been looking up lots of information about building a computer in the hopes of building one some day. I've also been following the Ryzen launch with the x570 chipset (quite exciting for me). When looking at motherboards though, they all seem to only have either x16 or x1 PCIe slots. I have yet to see any with x8 or x4 size slots. They all show some configuration of x16 and x1 slots. Is there a reason for this? Or are there motherboards that include x8 and x4 slots that I haven't found yet? Or, are x8 and x4 not generally found on motherboards (not just the x570 but other chipsets as well) for consumer computers?
  20. I live in America. So here is the deal, my cpu is definitely holding me back. The frame drops are just too much to ignore and not to mention that I have had this cpu for about 5 years ish now. So basically I am heavily leaning towards picking up a ryzen 3900x (and the other parts needed for it). I don't care that much about budget, but would like to keep the upgrades around $1,000 (max I would go is probably 2000) but keep in mind that I am probably going to keep my power supply, gpu, storage, pc case, peripherals and cpu cooler. When I built this pc I admittedly didn't know what I was getting myself into or how to choose parts. This time around however I am not cheaping out (within reason) and would like to be smart about upgrading my system. However there are several thoughts for consideration on my part... First is that I am thinking it doesn't really make sense to pick up a ryzen r9 3900x without a good gpu to match it, so I don't know how badly I will bottleneck things if I don't upgrade my gpu. Secondly I do a lot of heavy multitasking while playing videogames like watching youtube while playing battlefield 1 or whatever game, I will also start writing my own music soon, so a decent cpu and ram (and plenty of it probably) would be a good idea. Third I would like to overclock my system pretty heavily, so I might need to upgrade my power supply (not certain on that part). Fourth I will be starting to do artificial intelligince research sometime within the upcoming year (in other words I need a decent gpu and I am not sure if I should just upgrade it). Fifth I will be in college for my 3rd year of computer science, so this will be the system that I remote into and do 99.9% of my programming on. Sixth I am thinking about upgrading to an m.2 ssd for my main boot drive so that I have much greater performance (I think its worth it, but I would like your guys thoughts on it as well). Seventh I want really decent ram this time (and could use some help understanding cas latency and ram timings and how that affects real world gaming and work performance). Eighth I want a really decent motherboard this time as well so I could use some help understanding vrm phases and what to look for in a really premium motherboard (and what is just a waste of money) also on that note I have heard that vrm phases barely matter now because of the way ryzen is made. Is this true or am I mistaken? Ninth I am thinking about picking up a second duplicate dell 165 hz monitor (because I have heard that there are issues with having 2 monitors with separate refresh rates plugged into your graphics card). Tenth is it worth it to get 32 gb of ram for my use cases? Eleventh would it be worth waiting for the 3950x to come out purely from a gaming performance perspective? Twelfth should I just upgrade almost everything and start from scratch? Thirteenth should I just bear with it till I graduate and can just upgrade the whole thing in one big swath? Sorry for the wall of text, but as you can see there is a lot of stuff on my mind because there are a lot of things to consider as I am upgrading. Any help would be greatly appreciated... 21. Just putting out a general inquiry about when people think the x570-i Gaming motherboard will be released by Asus. There doesn't seem to be any release data on their website that I have found (at least so far). Anyone know approximately how long it takes for them to get these itx boards on the market after a new CPU launch, or know whether or not this board is available for pre-order? Any information is much appreciated. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/ROG-Strix-X570-I-Gaming/overview/ <--- link for reference.
  22. We were discussing on how our build would cost since the price list at our usual hant was confirmed. As my brother plans to go with the Asus DTX mother board and the 12core cpu we have to reserve order the motherboard before the launch date. I was going to get the gigabyte itx board but my brother explained that unless you're going for a 12/16 core cpu the X570 boards isn't a need even with the 6/8 core's 105 tdp. He said that even my Msi b450i can handle the R7 3700X fine so I didn't have to spend the extra cash. He explained that most gamers will not be using the pcie gen 4 to full potential. - none of the present day GPUs are able use the full lanes provided - 4th gen nvme/pcie ssd will be at a higher premium price - most gamers / end-users will not be buying 4th gen nvme ssd - not everyone is going to be pushing the overclock due to the heat issues from the vrms, my brother forsees - overclocking heating issues, not all present day aio can handle the heat. - (for the same reason why they made 90% boards ATX) If you plan to overclock your 12/16 core you'll probably will need a 280mm AIO or more. My brother made me think twice, so I was thinking to post this as an advice or as a early point for everyone. Have fun everyone.
  23. So I'm planning to build a bare metal hypervisor and was looking for a CPU with max numbers of cores so that I can run as many VMs as possible on a single box. I initially considered buying a Threadripper 2990WX coupled with 64GB of DDR4 memory, but then I stumbled across Xeon engineering sample versions on AliExpress for a much lower price than the Threadripper. I'm now considering buying an E5-4669V3 (18Cores/2.10Ghz) (https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/bWcztO3I) on a Gigabyte Motherboard (https://www.gigabyte.com/in/Motherboard/GA-X99P-SLI-rev-10#support-dl). Now I'm confused as to what memory will pair up with this configuration. The Gigabyte product page clearly says that Registered DIMMS are not supported, however ECC DIMMS are. However, I just can't find RAM that is ECC but not Registered. If I stay below 128GB (planning to start out at 64GB), can I use normal non ECC ram ? If not, can anyone post links to non-registered ECC Ram (please Ebay/AliExpress links). (This machine will mainly be used to run pfSense, Home Assistant(Linux), Wordpress(Linux), OwnCloud (Linux) and a seperate Linux and Windows test web server for web development. I know a Threadripper has a better performance per core, but none of my VMs are going to need alot of resources, and I do have a Ryzen 1800 main workstation for running VMs that are resource intensive).
  24. I am going to build a pc for my father using an Intel Core i5-6600t. He currently has a pc with an AMD Athlon II x4 651k, gtx 680, 8gb ddr3 ram, and an ssd in a micro atx case. I would like to build this with relatively inexpensive parts, and I can reuse the power supply and RAM if I need to. Tell me what parts I should buy please. I'm asking about a cooler, fans, board, and anything else you can think of.
  25. I know its general principle that RAM not be mixed and matched and that its better to just get a matching kit. However, if I had an 8(2x4)gig Kit but a 4 slot motherboard could I: Add a set of 2x8 in the existing free slots of different brands? I wouldn't think it would matter. Would I still need to consider matching voltages, speeds, timing, etc. between the old set and the new set? Or because they're on a separate channel that wouldn't matter? Thanks
