Guys does anyone happen to have the B550 TUF GAMING PLUS by Asus ? I have been looking for the "display initial output" setting because I've got 2 gpus and need the 2nd gpu to boot first 'cause the first one (plugged in the first pcie slot) is being used by a VM so whenever I boot linux tries to get the Input from the card I need for the VM. I have put the "iommu=pt" parameter in the kernel to prevent linux from trying to get access to that gpu but It does not seem to work. Any idea ? In Gigabyte boards there's the "Initial Display Output" setting but here I cannot find it. Here's a link if you wonder what's the BIOS like. https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/Manual/PRIME_TUF_GAMING_B550_Series_BIOS_EM_WEB_JP.pdf

Apart from the 16x pcie slots, any real world difference between the MSI Gaming Carbon and the Gaming Edge (I don't care about aesthetics)? With a 10900k for 4k video editing, will they both be equaly stable motherboards? They have around 100$ (canadian rupies) difference... Just wondering if the price difference is explained by the extra 16x pcie slot and extra ''bling'' on the Gaming Carbon.(See image) thanks

Summary As was rumored months ago (and talked about on a few status updates today) the A520 Motherboard chipset has just come out. It will support ryzen 3000 (not including Ryzen 3 3200G or Ryzen 5 3400G) and the upcoming processors with the Zen 3 architecture (ryzen 4000). The chipset will not have support for PCIe 4.0, Instead they will have up to 26 PCIe 3.0 lanes. They are going to have more USB 3.2 Gen 2 port than their predecessors. With prices as low as $62, these motherboards will likely be the go to for ultra low-budget builds. Many of them are already available. See the anandtech link for a full list. Quotes My thoughts I hadn't heard that these motherboards were expected to be launched this month, so this was very surprising to me. But it makes sense they would release their new budget boards around this time. I find it weird that they do not support ryzen 3000 apus, but chances are they will be a very popular pairing with the upcoming ryzen 4000 apus. Sources AMD anandtech pcgamer kitguru

Hi everyone! So I've been facing this problem for the past couple of weeks where my computer fails to startup properly, it just stays in a booting cycle (turns on for a few seconds and then shuts down and then turns on again). Sometimes after a couple of booting cycles it starts normally. In the beginning this problem did not occur if I gave it about 6 hours before I started it again. But for the past 3 days it has not been able to do that too! I've tried for solutions like changing the CMOS battery and resetting it, Checking if the RAM sticks are working, I even checked my power supply by shorting it and it works, I also check that my motherboard is not touching any part of the case so it won't short, and my motherboard also does not show any kind of faulty capacitors that can be visually recognized. I'm also attaching a video for a better reference. So any kind of help from you guys will be highly appreciated. Computer specs: RAM: Corsair DDR3 4GB sticks x2 Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6GB Processor: Intel i7 2600K 3.4GHz Quad Core Power Supply: CoolerMaster RS-400-PSAR-I3 Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H61M-S2P-R3 WhatsApp_Video_2020-08-07_at_13_17_18.mp4

Why do motherboards have USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A connectors on the back panel? I see lots of USB 3.0 devices with a Type-A plug, but I don't think I've seen many devices with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A connector. Here is an example: https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-Strix-TRX40-E-Gaming/specifications/ Is a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port on the back of my motherboard the same thing as a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C except for the plug? It seems like they should both be SUPERSPEED+ and good for 10 Gbps. If so, why not make all those faster ports Type-C so new peripheral devices can plug into them? Are there devices that need USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports?

Hi everyone! So I know pretty much nothing about chipset manufacturing or implementation, but I'm curious about this. I built a new Ryzen system this week with the ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4. I noticed in both CPU-Z and HWMonitor, the chipset seems to be reported as X570. Take a look: Is this just a part being mislabeled, or could this indicate that the chipset itself is a cut-down version of X570? If so, would that mean anything, like the ability to activate locked features by flashing a custom BIOS? This doesn't fully make sense to me, knowing that X570 requires active cooling which makes me think it would be a different part entirely. Again I don't know much about this stuff but I'm really curious, would love you hear your guys' thoughts. Thanks!

Building my second PC and wondering if I could buy a B450 that claims: I am planning on buying 32 gb of DDR4 3200 RAM and would like to know if those speeds would be achieved. Just not sure why, if it supports those speeds overclocked, it wouldn't support those speeds stock clocked. Here is the Ram: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/mr/memoryexpress/kXbkcf Here is the motherboard: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX78787 -Your help is appreciated!

Hello, Recently my computer randomly shut down and now refuses to post, giving error code "00" on an ASUS Maximus Hero VIII with i7 6700K. The PSU tested fine with multimeter hitting the 24pin connections and ram also seems fine. Breadboarded system with minimal components. Same "00" error code even with no ram present. (I would expect mobo to throw a specific RAM errow if no RAM is installed) This led me to believe the MOBO was bad rather than a bad CPU. My first thought was the MOBO was bad. To confirm this I made the mistake of buying an ASUS Prime z390-A thinking it was compatible with my i7 6700k. (Its not) Unfortunatley the z390-A is not compatible with my i7 6700k. Now im stuck with my old Hero VIII board and a new z390-A, both of which do not post with the i7 6700k cpu. (z390 for obvious reason, because CPU is not compatible.) Now im back to square one of not knowing if its my Hero VIII mobo or i7 6700k that is the culprit here. AND I now have an extra z390-A board that im not using. I am trying to decide if I should just keep the z390-A I bought on accident and get a new i7 9700k, or, hope that my old MOBO is still good and order another i7 6700k and hope its cpu the that is bad. Unfortunately I do not know if its the old mobo or old CPU which is bad at this point. However, regardless, if I want to repalce either with an upgrade it appears I will need to infact upgrade both. As any processor better than the i7 6700k will require a newer MOBO. And most newer MOBO's will not support the i7 6700k (I may be way off on this). I'm in a weird spot as it seems im at the top tier of the previous hardware generation and now in a spot where I need to upgrade either my MOBO or CPU as one of them is dead. It seems like im going to have to upgrade both regardless, if I choose to upgrade one. Otherwise, I would need to reorder the same, old cpu or motherboard. Any tips are greatly appreciated on what the best option forward would be. Don't really have a budget, but also have no need for anything too extreme. Looking to stay at about the level of an i7 9700k. Thanks! -Joe

After doing not much research, it will become obvious to you that a large number of early X99 Gigabyte motherboards had some faulty bios versions, resulting in boot loops. My setup's boot loop used to happen every 25 seconds or so but now it is every 3-4 seconds if left alone. (CPU pins and motherboard socket seem perfectly fine to me) Setup I am trying to get working: i7-5820k Gigabyte X99-SLI Corsair Vengeance LPX 4x4GB 24000mHz [I have also been testing with a 2x8GB 3000mHz version] GTX 780 (definitely works) Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB SSD (definitely works) Corsair RM1000 PSU (definitely works) [I have also been testing with a ~2012 OCZ 700W unit] I have tried the following, none of which post (no display output, at least): - Booting with/without RAM - Booting with different amounts of RAM (1-4 DIMMs) - Booting with different RAM kits (different frequencies and capacities) (note: I am prioritising the manual's recommend slot if only 1 is to be used) - Booting with/without secondary storage attached (have only tried SATA) - Booting with/without a graphics card - Booting with different power supplies - Booting with/without anything in the USB ports - Booting after clearing the CMOS (holding screwdriver between pins) - Booting after removing the CMOS battery for 10 minutes - Booting after trying a CMOS battery from a different, working motherboard I have recently been attempting BIOS updates: When updating to BIOS version F24c (latest, released 2018/06/15), here is my method: 1. Remove all RAM DIMMs 2. Downloaded latest BIOS on another machine 3. Put just the BIOS file on a FAT32 flash drive (I have also tried placing all three files) 4. Renaming the BIOS file to GIGABYTE.BIN (I have also tried not renaming it) 5. Putting the flash drive into the machine and turning the power on 6. The machine then does one of its 3-4 second boot loop restarts and then realises a flash drive is in, resulting in an orange light turning on. - This is the only way the machine remains powered on 7. The orange light then flashes, as does the light on the flash drive. 8. I leave this until the lights become solid and do not flash. 9. I then turn off the machine, install 1 RAM DIMM and power on. 10. This does not result in any display output. To recreate the conditions of the tutorial I followed for this, I have also tried the above method with the F20 BIOS (released 2016/01/12). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

Hi I have an asrock x570 pro4 and a Silverstone p360 aio and I'm having problems with the aio not lightning up even the it is connected to the motherboard CPU/pump 4pin connection and my main problem is that even tho it is connected it still dosent light up and dosent make use of the full 4 pin connections as the pump uses a 3 pin connection is there any way to get the pump to light up and use all 4 pins that the motherboard header has so I'm not worried about the aio not running and possibly overheating my CPU

Hello Guys! I hope you guys are doing okay amidst this global pandemic. Anyhow, I'm looking to upgrade my existing potato PC (Looking also to build another PC if lucky enough to get some parts on sale) Looking into B450 mobos lately since i cant afford boards higher than b450s. Which board should i get? MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC or MSI B450 tomahawk max? Is there any difference or upgrade when i get Gaming pro? price point difference is at ~20$. P.S. I know it's sad that this boards wont support Ryzen 4000 series but considering an upgrade from an A320 board and a Ryzen 3 2200g is worth, i think.

I got a Dell Optiplex 775 from the school for free because they were getting rid of them, and I wanted one. I completely tore down the system including the power supply, CPU, RAM, and the Nvidia GT 8400 gs. I put it back together outside of the case, and upgraded to four sticks of 2GB DDR2 RAM, but the cooling solution was a hard drive mounted fan that blew through a heat spreader, but I couldn't use that method outside of the case. It totally works, and it is the system I am writing this from, but I just have the hard drive fan blowing onto the CPU full blast. I want a better cooling solution, but the mounting holes in the motherboard for a CPU cooler are way off from a standard LGA 775 socket, and I know this is something that dell does, but I want to know if there is a way I could get a better CPU cooler for it without getting a motherboard that costs similar to a modern one, and doesn't even have the four slots of DDR2 that I would need for the RAM. I am hoping to build another system this summer and not have to worry about this vacuum cleaner next to me, so its not that important to me, but it may help someone else.
