So I recently got a new X570 Motherboard and a Ryzen 3700X Processor, my download speed at home is 100Mbps sometimes it's a little bit more. SO my problem it that my motherboard doesn't seem to allow higher throughput than 100Mbps. As you can see in these 2 screenshots, it caps out at 100Mbps network usage. Which isn't usually a problem but when I'm downloading many things at once and watching youtube/streaming from twitch for e.g., I start to get drops in performance because I'm not getting the data fast enough. So I was thinking, that surely a motherboard like the MSI X570 has a Gigabit ehternet port and if so what can I do to enable it? P.S. I have downloaded all the latest drivers from MSI and Realtek for this network controller. Solution: So it turns out that all I needed was a new network cable and I’m now running at 1Gbps. I was just confused as to how it was showing up on my system. I saw things on my pc that made me believe it was my motherboard not allowing more throughput, which was partially true but it needed a proper 1Gbps capable cable to display that it was able to operate at 1Gbps. thanks to everyone for the help

Let say someone had nvidia graphics cards and didn’t use a SLI would... A) they be able to use the cards independently (one for recording/streaming and the other for gaming) B) They see any performance drop from either cards since the 8x PCIe configuration has the same speeds as a 3.0 PCIe x16? Sorry if this a dumb question I’m trying to understand hardware better.

I just purchased a CPU - motherboard - RAM Combo from a guy, and he can't find the I/O shield anywhere. It grinds my OCD, and the person I am looking to build this PC for has to have it as well. Any leads where I can find a matching one? Needs shipping to India. PS: I know this is an old motherboard but still/ PPS: Purchasing blanks and cutting them is an option I am already considering, but the original I/O Shield would be nice! Thanks!!

Hello, I am at a stage where i am picking up parts for a new PC (upgrading old stuff from my old PC into something new). And i was thinking if someone could lend me their advice as to which parts are good and which parts are bad, which i could pick up better and if something is generally wrong in the way I am picking out parts So i been doing some digging and this is kinda what i picked up as my parts: - CPU: intel i7-6850k - RAM: HyperX Fury Black 16GB [2x8GB 2133MHz DDR4 CL14 DIMM] - Motherboard: Asrock X99 Extreme4/3.1 Ok so, the general goal with this PC is to create a good PC for gaming, i know there are better parts like the i7-6700k which has better power but it is a 4core, but im also creating a PC in case i would like to edit some videos, do some 3d modeling etc, so i figured those 2 cores could be useful. So i wanted to ask you guys if there is something wrong with my thinking or there are better cheaper, more efficient parts out there that could do the work As to the rest of the components in my PC for now i have old graphic card which i will upgrade later down the road when the money comes in, but for now i am adamant to upgrade my CPU. Just gonna write down the graphics card in case i missed something that could be seen as a bad choice that could make the components not work with eachother. Graphic card: Gigabyte GTX 760 4GB OC ( the card i would like in the fututre is a ASUS GeForce ® GTX 1080 STRIX OC 8GB, not a big fan of overcloaking i prefer to buy the best out the box i can get to not fry it :P) I would be greatful for any advice you guys could give, also sorry for bad english in advance ^^' Thanks!

Alright, so recently I've been looking at all the advantages of PC gaming and I've decided to make one. This will be my first build ever, and essentially this build is aiming for something that's not super pricey but can still play games at 1080p with High/Ultra settings with good Frame rates. (I classify 40+ good, not too picky. I don't need 120 or anything!) I've been watching plenty of videos and reading up reviews and info, and I've put together my plan. Here it is: CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212 EVO Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H (LGA 1150) RAM: A-Data XPG V1 2x4GB 1600MHz Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM (I'm also considering taking out an old HDD then buying an SSD instead of a new HDD) GPU: Sapphire R9 280X Toxic OC edition PSU: This is still undecided, I'll take any good grade 750W. Right now I'm looking at the EVGA Semi Modular 80+ Bronze. Case: DIYPC Mirage D1-Y Mid ATX Tower So there you have it! That's the part list I've put together. Let me know what you think about my part picking skills. More into specifics here, there is one thing I've been worrying about. It has to do with the GPU fitting properly in the case and on the motherboard. I'm pretty sure there is enough room but I don't want to be putting it together and realize that it doesn't fit. Also, would a second Toxic R9 280X fit in there Alright? I'm considering adding in a second one for crossfire later on, but I'm not sure with how thick the cards are if there would be enough space underneath for another in a proper PCI slot. Thanks for any feedback, and make sure to notify me of any other problems you see!

I'm on a tight budget to build a system and need a relatively cheap but capable mobo. Those two are the only reasonable options in my country. http://www.msi.com/product/motherboard/Z170A-GAMING-M3.html#hero-overview http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/Z170%20Extreme4/ https://www.asus.com/gr/Motherboards/Z170-PRO-GAMING/ http://www.msi.com/product/motherboard/Z170-KRAIT-GAMING.html#hero-overview The asrock has 3 pcie x16 ports (msi has 2) but with z170's 20 and 3-way cfx not being efficient lanes they seem useless. The msi on the other hand has 6 USB 3.1 (asrock has 2 + 6 usb 3.0) which is great plus i trust msi more. . . the msi krait is beautiful and somewhere in between in features and the asus is the most praised one What are the differences on build quality? Any opinions / experience on the boards?

So I'm building a gaming PC and after doing my research i've decided that i'm going to get the Intel i5 4690k for the CPU and a sapphire r9 280x toxic tri-x for the GPU. my questions are: 1. what case should I get? I only ask about the case because the r9 280x toxic tri-x is pretty big. 2.What motherboard should i get? I dont think i'm going to be using more than 1 GPU for the immediate future but i think i'll only ever go as high as 2. RAM wise i'd probably edge towards 16 gig 3. are the 2 components that i've chosen already good - i'm probably not going to be overclocking either. Any response would be super helpful as i only have a basic understanding of all of this Thanks, louie

PC for office environment or HOW much PC is enough
vaunull posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi Members, I am looking to set up a new desktop computer (which I do every 5 or so years) and it just seems to get harder each time to find your way through the jungle of information out there. That being said, Thanks to Linus, youtube and this forum, I have managed to claw my way through much of it but am still left with some fairly important questions and would appreciate your input. There is oodles of information out there for gaming computers but I have not been very successful in finding much useful information for setting up computers for less demanding environments. Bear in mind I am one of those people with dangerous half knowledge so please bear with me. Any statements I make in here, add an invisible I THINK to the end. The objective: 1. A FAST computer that will be reliable and not need upgrades or other work done to it for a few ears to come. 2. Good data security so as not to loose it all in a computer or HDD crash 3. As worry free as possible The system usage: 1. Primarily word processing 2. Emails 3. Web based programs (for real estate office environment) 4. Maybe some occasional photoshop or Illustrator 5. uploading of pictures from camera to PC, sorting and renaming them. What I think I would like: 1. MoBo: Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H (seems to do all I need with room to spare) 2. CPU: Intel 4790K 3. SSD: 2 mirrored Samsung 850 EVO 4. PSU: Cooler Master V550 (According to Cooler Master Power Calculator, the recommended minimum for this setup is 267W) 5. Casing: Phanteks Enthoo Pro Full Tower 6. RAM Kit: Corsair Vengence 2X4GB 7. Onboard graphics should do just fine (I think) My Biggest Question: 1. How much CPU is enough... ie, I want some overkill but I dont need a formula 1 racer on a go kart circuit and if non of the parts can keep up with teh CPU, not much point. I have done quite a bit of reading and gotten to the point where I am thinking that for $40 I can get the best 4th gen I7 why wouldnt I....? Other Questions: 1. What is your general concensus about this setup? 2. Are things fairly balanced (am I likely to bottleneck somewhere) 3. Please add any comments and suggestions you might have . Thanks a lot community!!! And Linus, If you are reading this, If there is a way you could make an "As Fast As Possible" episode on deciding which CPU to buy for various setups or some guidelines in helping make that choice, that would be great. I saw (and liked) probably over a dozend episodes and you explained I3 vs I5 vs I7 and and Intel Buyers Guide and several other things but it didnt bring me closer to knowing what I would NEED as a minimum/good for an office environment setup ie how much is enough.- 13 replies

Hi all, I'm currently looking at the Maximus V Formula (z77) from Asus as my new board to go along nicely with my Asus Direct CU II GTX 780 and I have a quick question. I have looked at the reviews and say good but from people buying it I hear it's hit and miss. (AKA Arrives at their house with problems) Could anyone assure me with like a Maximus V Formula that their board arrived fine and was working good without any problems. I really don't wanna spend 300$ and have to spend more to get it fixed.

Currently running: Gigabyte GA p55 ud3 motherboard Intel i3 530 with stock cooler Asus NVIDIA GT 640 2gb DDR3 RAM 4GB generic 1333mhz RAM Looking to upgrade my motherboard and CPU as the current one only supports 1333mhz RAM and doesn't have USB3. Already have 4gb Corsair vengeance 1600mhz RAM lying around and will be looking to upgrade the graphics card in the near future. I'm after some ideas with a balance between performance and cost, usually an AMD fanboy, but am open to Intel ideas? Any help would be much appreciated

Hey guys, My PC was fine and I decided to get a nap so went a bed and left it on for a few hrs, I came back and it was in the BIOS and it was set to boot of my USB stick so I changed it to my HDD and restarted then it said no signal on the monitor and would not display anything, then the PC would crash and come back on but it would not display anything it was like I had not plugged my PC into the monitor but I then realised all my USB ports on the motherboard were not working I tried everything, 2 monitors and 2 video cars and nothing, but all the fans spin up and work and the lights are all on. Is it my CPU or Motherboard? I tried reseting my BIOS by removing the CMOS battery thing and still nothing, has my motherboard died?
