I'm just wondering what type of header does the Antec DP301M ARGB connector have and if it's compatible with the MSI B450m Bazooka Plus. And if not what's the best mATX case for budget builds? Cheers!

Hi , I'm planning to build a new/used PC. I apologize if I do any mistakes also , I'm still learning how to speak english. 1. Budget & Location I've planned to build a PC with 480€ , so a low price in mind (Monitor Included), I live in France 2. Aim Mainly play AAA games at 1080p60 In Ultra/High/Medium. Open a lot of tabs in Chrome, use the Office suite , doing some editing on After Effects (not my principal use so I guess this will be enough) 3. Monitors One 27" 1080p60 monitor, maybe a second one if I have enough later on. 4. Peripherals I'll buy new peripherals later on, beginning with a Logitech G403 5. Why are you upgrading? I'm upgrading because my main PC is still running on a Core 2 Quad and a GT 1030 and it's showing its weaknesses a lot. So , to begin, I'll provide links of any component I am referring to so it can be easier for you to keep track : First off, the motherboard (I already have it) it's a Gigabyte GA-H81M-S2V , it's kind of an odd mATX motherboard since it looks more like a mITX one, anyway it does what it has been made for. https://www.ebay.fr/itm/283656836091 Next , the CPU , I opted for a Xeon E3-1240v3 since it's the best price to performance CPU I could find for my motherboard (it's an i7 4770 but without iGPU if i remember correclty) (72€ at the moment of writing this , it was lower 2 days ago at 69€) : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/32954104630.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.a70d5274XaKFH7&algo_pvid=1f07b3ce-d077-47c3-b188-d4d0d1b92c1a&algo_expid=1f07b3ce-d077-47c3-b188-d4d0d1b92c1a-1&btsid=4bde6bb7-3ef9-4001-9cd7-591ff23db363&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_4,searchweb201603_52 Since we have to cool this CPU , which is by the way, non overclockable , I opted for an Arctic Alpine 12 CO. It's basically an Intel stock cooler but on steroids (13€ at the moment of writing this) : https://www.amazon.fr/ARCTIC-Alpine-Refroidisseur-Compatibilité-Fonctionnement/dp/B07HJ3DNX2/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_fr_FR=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&keywords=arctic+alpine+12+co&qid=1574107528&s=computers&sr=1-1 Then for the RAM , it's kind of an odd choice but I went with knockoff HyperX DDR3 (2x8 @ 1666MHz so I can have 16GB) those are basically Micron / SK Hynix in house stuff with a heatsink slapped on them for extra look (47€ the pair) : https://www.ebay.fr/itm/For-8GB-Kingston-HyperX-PC3-12800-DDR3-1600MHz-240Pin-CL11-DIMM-Desktop-Memory/183082131560?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20131003132420%26meid%3D7b25379cad7b430387a3df0d02aadac5%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D223581697042%26itm%3D183082131560%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 For the GPU , I've chosen to buy it on my local craigslist , I either take an RX 580 (4 or 8G since I only will be gaming at 1080p60) or a GTX 1060 6GB (because the 3GB ver. is bad) (140€ max) Next , we need to power that up , I've picked a Thermaltake Smart RGB 500W (the cheapest but still with an 80+ certification and with 2 PCIe connectors) (41€) : https://www.amazon.fr/Smart-RGB-500W-80-Plus/dp/B0744PFBFZ/ref=pd_sbs_147_32?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0744PFBFZ&pd_rd_r=4258f9ec-0569-4b2f-82bc-85fd87bc523f&pd_rd_w=bpVOK&pd_rd_wg=ttaGl&pf_rd_p=26d54ac2-ee81-4c62-8302-1e18ced12245&pf_rd_r=AK24KPJ5R1ADSAMB3Q14&refRID=AK24KPJ5R1ADSAMB3Q14&th=1 Then , I already have a 1TB HDD that will do the job at storing my games, but I also need an SSD to get fast boot times, I settled on the cheapest one that had decent speeds and DRAM Cache (17€): https://www.amazon.fr/ASENNO-SATAIII-interne-ordinateur-portable/dp/B07VGGBDDV/ref=pd_sbs_147_4/262-9608953-5209001?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07VGGBDDV&pd_rd_r=2823dd6e-48d8-46e3-a235-11e671b0308d&pd_rd_w=3cQfX&pd_rd_wg=3CgEb&pf_rd_p=26d54ac2-ee81-4c62-8302-1e18ced12245&pf_rd_r=KXRH7GBWEPH7V1BHS475&refRID=KXRH7GBWEPH7V1BHS475&th=1#customerReviews I need a new monitor , so I'm searching on the Amazon Warehouse deals for a 27 inch 1080p60 screen that's in good condition (100€ max) or else I'll be getting a 24 inch Acer one (still IPS but has freesync): https://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/ecrans-informatiques/acer-ha240yawi-ecran-23-8-dalle-ips-4ms-h/f-10732-umqw0eea01.html?idOffre=-1&cid=search_pla&cm_mmc=PLA!COR!INF!CD!2046589638!m102400825_pUMQW0EEA01_&gclid=CjwKCAiA5JnuBRA-EiwA-0ggPWVYVrJsAHjZMXx4zVyKMAPBZES266vfeGaoMAXxkVFs2Ampsp1QBRoCVLQQAvD_BwE#faqs And to top it off , also to house all the components I have , I'll buy a Silverstone-PS15. Imo it's the best mATX case under 50€ and it'll look great with some RGB fans I'll buy later on (47€) : https://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/composants-informatiques/silverstone-sst-ps15b-g-boitier-d-ordinateur-pre/f-1071303-auc4710007226957.html?idOffre=375505443&cid=search_pla&cm_mmc=PLA!NXC!INF!MP!1442605123!m113087730_pAUC4710007226957-375505443_&gclid=CjwKCAiA_MPuBRB5EiwAHTTvMZZt-maUpaBvqeuppjJ0PsxEq_NHYYIc4J_lnLuTmSa0s6yYJ_S6AxoC-S4QAvD_BwE In total , this build costs 477€ (if I get a 140€ GPU , but usually , the RX 580 8GB costs around 130€ used shipped to your door) Thanks for reading this , if i should change some components , let me know but I have this fixed budget , I cannot pay more than the 480€ limit.

My x99 board died on me during the holiday period and I had to buy new hardware with whatever little money I got left after the big spending season... Long story short, due to the PCIe layout on my motherboard, I am no longer able to fit a 240mm or 280mm AIO in the bottom of the chassis (I am using mATX). Technically I could be able to fit it, but it will be touching the graphics card and I really don't want that. The only other fan spaces that I have are one 120mm and one 140mm. Due to price concerns, I am looking into some cheaper AIOs and the DeepCool GAMMAXX L120T in particular, as I can get that dirt cheap. I looked at the Arctic Freezer II, but that is about 40 bucks more. The Kraken x42 is 100 bucks more than the DeepCool AIO, which is quite out of budget at the moment and I am not sure that it will even make that much of difference. Does anyone here have experience with this brand and cooler in particular? It will be cooling a (hopefully slightly overclocked) 3900x, which currently runs with its stock cooler.
-
TL;DR version: I have a Ryzen 7 3700X in an InWin 301C mATX case, and the stock CPU cooler is by far the loudest thing in the build. I think even if I customised the fan curves, it would still be annoying. If I replaced it with a 120mm AIO water cooler exhausting out through the rear grille, would I get a significant reduction in noise as well as equal or better cooling performance with a big Noctua air cooler? Longer version: I've attached a pic of the case from the manual. The bottom-intake setup for this case means the GPU (Gigabyte RX 5700 XT) gets a pretty good supply of fresh air, and I'm likely to just leave it with stock air-cooling. But I don't feel like the bottom fans supply much cool air to the CPU area. The space between the edge of the GPU and the sides or front of the case is just too small. (It also blocks enough of the front-exhaust area that I can't put in a 240mm radiator + fans.) So for now I've turned the rear fan from exhaust to intake, even though it doesn't have a filter, just to get the CPU a bit cooler. All hot air in this case goes out through the PSU fan or past the (empty) front fan mounts and then turns to go out the vents on the side of the case. If I replaced the stock CPU cooler (Wraith Prism top-down fan) it with a big Noctua side-flow air cooler (NH-U12 or similar), I'd probably keep the rear fan on intake so it delivers cool air to the Noctua. But if I'm going to spend that much money on a fix, it's not a huge jump to go get a 120mm AIO cooler either. (again I can't do 240mm because of the length of 3-fan GPU.) I've tried looking at the usual sites for info on 120mm AIO performance, but I just don't know the manufacturer's numbering schemes well enough to know which of them are 120mm and which are bigger. Knowing that a water cooler blowing air out the back grille will have less than ideal amounts of cool air to work with, would it still be more effective in terms of temps AND the noise levels than a Noctua NH-U12?

Greetings LTT community. I've been a long time passive participant but I needed some tech-minded eyes on this, and so it became the perfect opportunity to officially join up. I want to build a medium-small (bigger than a shoebox... perhaps more like 3 shoeboxes) desktop computer that will suit my needs for the foreseeable future (aka ~3 years, although I make my hardware last). All the strikethrough text was my original post... I thought I would leave it for posterity :). I'm looking for a case with specific features, so it'd be great if anyone has advice/recommendations/etc (even if it's not exactly what I describe). I am looking for a case on the smaller side of things, but still have enough room for a mATX mobo, a single 2-slot graphics card, a couple of SSDs and honestly not much else (I might even end up with a mini-ITX mobo if it has good onboard M.2 storage). The only other real requirement is mounting for 4 120mm fans (although I could get by with 3 or if there is a larger fan intake in the front, this would work as well). No side panel, color isn't a big deal as most cases are black or dark grey (having something like good Japanese rolled steel or quality aluminum construction is much more important, with screwless access being ideal), no RGB support needed/wanted and as long as the front IO has some USB ports I'd be happy. Thank you in advance for any recommendations or suggestions and I will be sure to read and consider every reply. - Tony R. 1 - Background (feel free to skip to 2) Here's what I have so far: CPU: Intel Core i7-8086K (I actually won this in the contest/giveaway that Intel held earlier this year, otherwise I would have bought an 8700K) GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 HYBRID GAMING, 11G-P4 (passed on nVidia's 2000-series; it needs to mature + the included rad fan is due for replacement) Other: Multiple Wacom tablets What I need: Everything else. My previous desktop (i7-3770S/EVGA 660 Ti) will be repurposed due to age, so there will be zero carryovers regarding parts. I have an inexpensive keyboard and a very basic Logitech mouse with an extremely inadequate monitor that made sense at the time and has served me well, but my eyes deserve better. I've been making use of laptops for work and consoles for gaming in more recent years, but would like to return to a dual-purpose, fixed setup. With Black Friday/Cyber Monday/End of Year/etc deals coming up soon, this provided the motivation I needed to at least put together my "ideal part list", even if some items like extra storage/RAM/monitor calibrater/etc are bought at a later date. I've been using PCPartPicker to see what options I had and happened to come across a build for a similar use case by one Eli Harper. Of course, I have slightly different preferences. For maximum quietness, I prefer windowless cases... I rather airbrush/customize a solid case than show off its inners for now; this includes zero interest in RGB kb/m as well (although backlt keycaps - like on a lot of laptops - can be nice) and finally work should come before play if a compromise needs to be made. I'm going to do my best to describe what would be most desirable, and I'm hoping that some people will lend me their experience/observations to help all of this come together. As far as spending, that is flexible... to a point. I know the monitor will likely be the most expensive item, but in terms of the max amount of money to spend, that lands between $1,700 - $2,200 USD. 2 - The Important Bits What I would love input on: Monitor - I've lived in a 1920x1080 world for too long (although I find it still perfectly fine for most gaming, and I don't even plan on buying a 4K TV until next year, it hurts productivity - or at least there is a lot more resizing and moving of panels inside Adobe CC products and other software suites). A bump up to 4K would be nice, but I'm also considering 1440p (curved screens are out - common in ultrawide displays - since I personally feel that might cause issues with my non-gaming workflow). A wide color gamut is a must, while higher than 60hz refresh rates or HDR are luxury items that aren't "must have's" at this time (and which also raise the price drastically when combined). I am basically looking for a "pro" monitor (as little light bleed as possible and a high contrast rate, with the aformented wide color gamut) and not a gaming monitor, but I know there is some convergence. Motherboard - This one is a little easier. I've had lots of luck with ASUS mobos (although I'd be open to recommendations), but now I need to decide what kind of mATX (or miniITX if it fits the bill) to get. I plan on running the CPU with a Noctua air cooler, and while OC'ing is always nice, a lot of Z370 boards are missing features that wouldn't appear until Z390 (which is something I was waiting for, but now I want to avoid Z390/Intel 9th gen altogether). WiFi is not important, but USB 3.1 Gen 2 (and possibly Type-C) is, however I could do without since I doubt I would notice. I haven't really looked at CPU-locked boards, so maybe there is a diamond in the rough that someone could clue me is on. I've still never needed more than 16GB, but regardless I would only need 2 DIMM slots and one PCIx16 slot for the graphics card. On board M.2 storage (at least one full-size slot) and at least 3 PWM fan headers are a must. Random Q - Are those 16GB/32GB small Optane modules found on some boards useful? I'm considering having one large 3.5" mechnical drive (either a WD Black @ 7200rpm or a WD Red @ 5400rpm) for storing my game library and I didn't know if they helped with HDD caching specifically. Case - One of the more subjective catagories. My needs are basic though. I want a very unassuming, no windowed case with mounts for 4 fans (ideally I would have two intake, and two exaust - one of those two coming from the 120mm GPU rad fan, however as long as there are mounting spaces, arrangements can be made/altered later). I would also like it to be as small as reasonably possible. My old desktop is housed in an Antec P183 V3, a great case but at 30 pounds alone, it's not what I need or want now (I would love to get something as solid and screwless as that, but at at least half the size and and maybe one-third the weight). 3 - Wrap Up Thanks to anyone who took the time to read any part of this. I will still comb through user builds and reviews, because, well most everyone should. However if anyone could point me in the right direction regarding a certain component, it would be greatly apprechiated. LTT is one of the best communities out there because we build off of the collective knowledge of one another... plus the hunt+build is a lot more fun for the majority of us compared to just throwing whatever money you have at a retailer and hoping for a good outcome ?. Cheers! - Tony R.

It seems that there is always a very small selection of matx motherboards that are all less than $100. I thought this might be due to the smaller size but I can find plenty of mini itx mobo's that run on the higher end chipsets like x470 with top notch specs while all matx are b450 (Im talking amd chipsets I haven't looked at intel's side) and are usually pretty lacking in enthusiast features or any sort of rgb implementation. Why is this? I run matx on an almost $3k watercooled system that looks damn good aside from the cheapo motherboard because it's the only option for this size of a system. I just want some matx love lol.

I am looking to build a small gaming pc for the first time and trying to find a micro atx motherboard under $130 for ryzen 5 2600 cpu. I liked the Asus Tuf B450M plus gaming for the usb type C and 4 Ram slots but I do not know if I can add an m.2 ssd while also using a gpu, like a gtx 1070? I do not think PC part picker finds this compatibility issue. If anyone knows about the m.2 situation or can recommend a similar or better micro atx motherboard that would be great. Thanks!

Hey everybody happy new year. Got a few ideas after selling my old system to a family member. I can't decide between a matx build (below) or making a powerful machine but a small form factor rig. Please feel free to make criticisms and alterations but follow the guidelines of a gaming rig with a black, silver, green or rgb colour scheme and my budget is around £1500 ish gbp. Any idea which one of these would be "best" ? ASUS TUF Z390M-PRO GAMING GIGABYTE Z390 M GAMING ASROCK Z390M Pro4 ASUS PRIME Z390M-PLUS I plan to do maybe mild OC to like 5ghz. TUF one is the priciest and apart from more "gaming" look and mby couple more ports (which I do not really care about) Gigabyte has most of "power phases" and conductors around CPU socket, which is good i assume ? Anyway, please share your thoughts... This lineup of MOBOs does not look best and I was also thinking about looking into Z370 area.

Hey guys I was looking at the Corsair 280x case, and I really like it. It's not that it is out of my budget range, but I was wondering if there were any similar matx cases out there you guys would personally vouch for. The two features that stand out to me are: -Dual chambered design/or sectioned design -Small form factor Any thoughts?

I am planning to build myself a secondary system to bring in my RV 8travel trailer). I happen to have a Asus Prime B360M-C (mini-ATX) motherboard left from a project a couple of months ago, so my plan is to use that for my build. I haven't picked a processor yet, but I am considering a i5-8600K. Yes, I know it is 2 generations old, but performance seems to be as good as the 9700K. Why spend more money when I don't need it? I am not doing much gaming (I am a software developer) but I do enjoy playing Microsoft Flight Simulator, when I occasionally have time. So I think an RTX 3070 will be perfectly fine (when they become available). Initially I think I will put a 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD on the motherboard, perhaps with a larger SATA SSD for additional storage. Due to vibrations in the travel trailer I will not get any mechanical drives. The only other card I will need is a wifi-card, since the motherboard lacks that feature. I am looking for a small case, with decent cooling capabilities. Either air cooled or where I can install an AIO, since the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (which is my personal favorite for air cooling) is pretty tall. I will keep the computer in a cabinet in the second bedroom: The cabinet on the right hand side in this picture is pretty big, and the breaker box is located directly under it (in the base of the cabinet), so it will be easy to install a new outlet inside the cabinet. I also think I need to arrange a way to get the warm air out of the cabinet itself, but I see that as a smaller problem, I could create a fan assisted exhaust on the side or on the top of the cabinet. I have considered Corsair 280X, I like the looks and the two-chamber design, but I am worried about the air flow in the case. Another case I have been considering is Thermaltake Core V21. It looks okay,. not as cool as the 280X but it will be hidden most of the time anyway. Cooler Master NR400 and Fractal Design Meshify C Mini are tow other cases I looked at, I find NR400 ugly, and Meshify C Mini is okay, but not that exciting. What other cases should I look at? Since the motherboard is mATX I would prefer a case that is designed for that size, and is as small as possible. If the case supports "EATX", it is probably too big to be interesting for me. I am willing to go with a smaller form-factor PSU, if needed. I don't have any specific budget, I rather get the right case. Any suggestions?

Hi! I just order my case (Corsair 220t airflow rgb) and I want to make sue that my motherboard fits. The case is a mid-tower ATX case and my motherboard is the ASUS TUF B450M-Plus, so it's a micro ATX board. The case already has motherboard stand-off in it. I want to make sure that the motherboard will fit in the case. On all the websites that I find they say that the case will fit micro-ATX motherboards, I just want to clarify. Thanks!

I have a couple questions, as I'm looking to buy a new build Q4 of this year. I have much planned out, but are considering case and motherboard possibilities. Feel free to answer these questions as good as you can. I'm open for any help. Let me know if any further information is helpful. - Will i loose out on features with a high-end mATX? - Can i get a good overclock with a mATX board? - Is it better to go for a small ATX case? - Can a mATX or small ATX case provide airflow sutable for overclocking(GPU & CPU)? - Does mATX or small ATX cases smaller than 20x40x40cm(WxHxD) exist? Budget: (including currency): Good quality's price(What quality cost. Not brand or originality). Country: Denmark. Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming, Media, graphic and Video editing. Goal: Small case build with airflow for overclocking. Other details: looking to buy in Q4. Preferred web shop in DK: https://www.computersalg.dk/ or https://www.pricerunner.dk/ For price comparisons

Hey Guys! I am looking to upgrade from a ITX system as I need more expansion but I regularly travel on the plane for university. What mATX cases do you recommend that would be small enough for check in luggage? The smaller the better! Thanks !

Budget (including currency): 600$ US Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Fortnite Other details I have no idea what parts to get for this as I have no idea how to do a microatx. build, everything will most likely be built at the local Dallas micro center. He will be playing 60hz as he prefers his large tv to a fast monitor, so he does not need a monitor, he wants it for fortnite, and maybe a few other small games. Micro atx isn't necessary but highly preferred, also some budget keyboard and mouse options would be great, he already has a microphone and headset. It also needs wireless wifi.

I am looking into building a new computer in a GameMax Mini Abyss mATX case. And I am trying to future proof and get the Aorus m.2 PCIE 4.0 card for my games. But If I go Ryzen, I would use a Ryzen 9 3950x, and no motherboard has enough IO on mATX. And it also only comes with 24 PCIE lanes. But with Threadripper I can get the x399m by ASRock, but it doesn't support PCIE 4.0. But I will have the 72 PCIE Lanes for any extra expand ability I would need.

Hello I've got some spare parts laying around. Asus b360 gaming (mATX), a 500w psu, gtx 1050, some random memory and a I5 9400F. I had a idea in my head of building some sort of a HTPC which i also can use to play some old nintendo and wii games through a emulator. But finding the right case for me was a lot harder than expected. I want something close to this https://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=395&area=en. The silverstone one was pretty perfect, outer dimensions was also nice but it only supports low profile expansion cards -.-. Could it be possible to modify the case with a dremel to support normal size GPU, with pcie extension of course. Or does it exist a product close to the ml04 but with full size GPU that i have missed while searching the big internet? If i only had more time it would be a fun project to try and make a case with plywood or something

Hey guys, I'm looking for a Mini atx case that would have a vertical mount and I can't find any... Is there any cases like that or I should just diy one?

Hi, I recently upgraded my desktop pc and I wondered what to do with these old parts. Gigabyte H87M-D3H mATX Intel Xeon E3-1230v3 2x Samsung Evo 840 120GB 3.5" HDD 2TB I was kinda thinking of building an HTPC out of it. "All" I would need is a case, power supply and a (more of less) cheap graphics card. But I am limited to the size of the build to put it into my TV rack. Especially the height is very critically limited to 12cm. I of course want to it be as quiet as possible thinking about an aio liquid cooler, but as research shows, cases that are that small cannot fit an aio, or am I mistaken? Main use for this HTPC would be video and game streaming. Video shouldn't be a problem. Heavier games (eg. Witcher 3) I would simply stream from my desktop over steam streaming, lighter games I would like to play directly on the HTCP. I'd say a 1050 or even something cheap from the 9xx series should be enough in terms of graphics, but the noise level is giving me a headache. I would prefer an aio with low running fans to a top-down air cooler somehow. The front of my TV rack has a fabric cover (the same you find on speakers sometimes) and is open at the back, so airflow should not be a huge concern, but sound is. Any ideas or experiences you guys can share? Thanks
