So I've got a big upgrade planned. Once Zen is released, I want to get a new CPU and case for sure. I have a Z97 ATX board right now so that I can upgrade right to a 4790K without needing to swap platforms, however recently I've decided that I really want to change out the case for something smaller and more portable than my C70. So here's my question: What are the smallest ATX cases? Because like I said though I do want a smaller case, I'd rather not have to buy a new motherboard. Though if I did, I'd probably go for a midrange overclockable chip to go along with it (i5 7600K or Zen equivalent most likely). So: If there aren't any ATX cases that much smaller than mine, are there any good matx cases you could recommend? I want to upgrade to an H100i or X62 with the new CPU, so I'd like to support that 240 rad if possible. I don't want to go ITX just 'cause I value more than 1 PCIe slot and 2 RAM slots.

Hey peoples, I had my friend order parts for his first build and for some reason I told him to buy a Noctua NH-L9i SSO2 CPU cooler. The reason why I am concerned with this purchase is because it's going to be built in a Corsair Carbide SPEC-M2 mATX case with an i5 6500 CPU... Seeing that he has already received all the parts, will this ITX designed cooler be sufficient enough for his config?

I've got a spare set of components that i wanna build with. But i can't find a case that i like the look of. So far the closest case to my liking is the Bitfenix Pandora, but it's riddled with problems and while i'm willing to mod a decent amount, idk if i'd wanna bother modding a case that essentially needs the mods to function as a proper case. in case you don't know what that is: I only need space for 1 GPU, and i'm all for going for an sfx PSU. Anyone got any other suggestions?

Basically i need more cases, i have tried to get my hands on used ones but people are shits and think their cases are worth what they paid for them and if they arent then they are way too far away from me and shipping is expensive as all hell. here is what it needs to be: M-ATX support under $55(500sek) here in Sweden(inc shipping) the smaller the better support for full width GPUs dosent have to be new, just has to not be scratched to shits ATX PSU support thanks for any help with this because i am shit at cases because i dont really care about how my PC looks, just its preformance and this is the freaking LAN PC so i care even less tbh

Anyone know of a good minimal, clean case that is in a mATX/mITX form factor. The only thing that I think really looks nice is the NZXT s340 but it is too big. The bitfenix pandora looks nice but I don't like brushed aluminium. Does anyone know of a hefty, anodised aluminium case that is minimal also? I did like the Dune Case but the kickstarter was unsuccessful

Is it possible to mount my mATX board inside a full sized ATX case?

Hi all, I feel like it's finally time to replace my aging 2500k gaming PC and I beseech the all-knowing LTT community to bestow their wisdom upon me. My budget is around 1800 CAD (pre-tax) without the OS. I already have a 1440p Ultrasharp and full set of peripherals that I'll be keeping, despite my keyboard looking like I found it in an attic. CPU: Likely a 6700k, though I know it's not the most efficient choice for a gaming-focused PC GPU: Very likely a GTX 1070 MOBO: Open to suggestions. WiFi would be nice I suppose. Thinking about going mATX, but I'm not sure. I don't ever really plan on going SLI RAM: Probably a 32GB kit at a decent speed Storage: An SSD in the 500Gb-1Tb range. I have an external HD that should do for mass storage. Cooling: Tempted to go for something like Corsair's pre-built WCing, but I'm pretty paranoid about things like pump failures/leaks. Would like to be able to OC up to ~4.5Ghz Case: Would at least like to go mid tower, perhaps mATX. My main concern is cooling. Would be willing to add a few fans here. PSU: Probably around the 600W range. High efficiency (and reliability ofc) would be important to me. I've always been a little paranoid about PSUs, so would probably be willing to overspend a little here. Really appreciate any insight you all have to offer. Thanks!

Hi guys, I am planning to upgrade to a new silent PC using the new Fractal Design Define Mini C and I had planned most of the part. But I still cannot decide which matx motherboard to use, there is just not so many review for matx motherboards. Here is the planned spec CPU: Intel i7 6700k MOBO: Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S (need a good quiet cooler as it's hot here) RAM: Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4 2666MHz Class 16 16GB (2x8GB) (mainly for the look, accept suggestion) GPU: ASUS ROG STRIX GTX1070 8GB PSU: CORSAIR RM650X Full Modular 650W 80Plus Gold (should be good enough?) Case: Fractal Design Define Mini C Windows version SSD: Kingston SSDNow UV400 Series 240GB (This is use to store games only, will reuse my old HDD and SSD) There are only 5 matx options in my area ASUS Z170M-PLUS Z170 (seems only have 4 USB???) ASUS MAXIMUS VIII GENE Z170 (very expensive) GIGABYTE GA-Z170M-D3H (just not familiar, cheaper that others in some store) ASRock Z170M Pro4 Z170 (just not familiar, cheaper that others in some store) MSI Z170M MORTAR Z170 (currently using an MSI one but this is not having good review) Which motherboard should I choose? Any idea?? I may only OC a little but mostly not. Want to have solid Ethernet, good audio quality, enough IO and most importantly solid and stable build so future hardware upgrade will not be so difficult. (Have experienced motherboard issue when I upgrade my GPU using my current mobo) I am open to listen if other part have other suggestion. Thanks!!!!

Hi As the title says I'm looking for a new mATX case. Requirements: Must be able to hold at least 1 3.5" drive and 2 2.5" drives. Must be sturdy (it's gonna be transported to and from LAN parties quite often). Thank you in advance!

Yes, another thread about Ryzen 3000 series and a B450 motherboard... I'm currently eye'ing the Ryzen 3700x (Was hoping for a non-x cheaper variant... but apparently that doesn't exist in the current lineup) but the x570 boards are WAY out of my price range, a motherboard shouldn't cost more than the damn CPU you put in it, wtf... (Not to mention that f'ing FAN on it... I'm aiming for a quiet build here). Also the fact that there's LITERALLY no mATX x570 motherboard and I need one for this new build. So, after looking at this VRM vcore rating list, there's very few motherboards that support a bios flackback without a CPU in the B450 chipset and can handle an overclocked 3700x... Even fewer that are mATX, because that's what I need. (literally only 3... all from MSI) So far I've singled out the MSI B450M Gaming Plus mATX motherboard, since it has a bios flackback feature... and is mATX. Along with this basic Corsair Vengeance 3200 kit. Two questions: Are there other motherboards that aren't complete trash VRM wise, support Bios flashback (to flash the BIOS to support newer Ryzen CPUs, won't boot otherwise) and are just not on that list? Is that RAM really ok with Ryzen? I keep reading some stuff about samsung b-die and wondering if that's still an issue.

Hello, I'm looking for a smallest possible matx case, I want to re-purpose my old hardware, no gpu will be installed, only 4 sata hard drives and an ssd, any recommendations? My only requirement is that it would accommodate 4 hard drives, other than that, not much else. So far I'm looking at this one: https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-HAF-EVO-Motherboard/dp/B00FFJ0H3Q but I'm not sure what should suit my needs the best.

My last mATX build ended up never going through but by chance a i9-9900k fell into my hands as a gift in lieu of that. So here I am trying to figure a good board that has good vrm phases for this monster of a CPU. I understand this CPU can use the new 3.0 turbo boost to get up near 5GHz. Then beyond the general turbo boost I don't plan to OC this. It is already well beyond what I am needing it for. From taking a look at what I need and what is available I believe I have 3 good choices that seem to have a decent sized vrm phase layout. At a minimum I need at least x4 SATA 6GB ports. Then 4 RAM slots would be killer since I have a friend getting me solid deal on 32GB. Everything else is pretty much a bonus from there. The 3 boards I have found that the best looking vrm sets ups with cooling; Far as I understand an 8 phase vrm is what you want to aim for to run this CPU and let it do it's thing. Is going to an 8+1+1 or 10+2 that big of a deal for general turbo boost 2/3? Right now feature-wise I am leaning towards the MSI board. Asus TUF Z390M-PRO GAMING (WI-FI) 8+1 with a 8 pin connection. MSI MPG Z390M GAMING EDGE AC 8+1+1 with a 8+4 pin connection. Gigabyte Z390 M GAMING 10+2 with a 8+4 pin connection. Thanks!

Hey everyone! Im new here and am trying to upgrade my pc. Im switching cases to the Corsair Air 240 because I want a smaller case while keeping all of my drives (Currently NZXT 340 Elite). The problem is I need a new motherboard (micro atx/mini itx) and cooler (max 120mm tall). I am unsure of where to go with that. Any guidance or advice/recommendations would be hugely appreciated! I am running: - i5 6600k - 2x8gb Ripjaw V DDR4 - 2x2.5" & 3x3.5" drives - MSI GeForce GTX 1070 - EVGA 650 W 80+ Gold

So I've lately decided that I'm going to buy a smaller case and since the space where i keep my PC is limited (i have a z9 neo that barely fits in height) I've decided for an mATX case. My requirements are: - CPU cooler height of minimum 160mm (more is better) - Price isn't a big deal as long as it's below 150-200 euros - As small as possible, but with the ability to have fairly long GPUs - Tempered glass (duh) and dust filters atleast in front and for PSU - PSU shroud and preferably good airflow (front opened) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ My top picks right now are the define c mini (flaw: front io is connected to the panel) and the h400/h400i (flaw: is quite big for mATX)

So what case is better? 1. Thermaltake core v21 Micro atx case Or 2. Coolermaster Q300L matx case Also do i need extra case fans? Computer specs: Ryzen 7 1700 Gigabyte Gtx 1060 3gb mini-itx Asrock b450m Pro4 AM4 M-Atx 2.5 ssd and 3.5 Hdd ATX Power supply

So currently I have an ATX case (Fractal Design Focus G), and I can't put it on my desk because it gets in the way of the bottom of the TV, so I was wondering if an mATX case would be worth it to put my computer on my desk, or if that's even possible, because I have 16gb of ram in a 4x4 kit. so is there even an mATX board that supports up to 4 DIMM slots?

Hello there community, I'm currently looking into steamlining my build and I'm struggling to find a preferably small case that can fit my components. My system, or the parts I would like to keep using: R9 3950X cooled by a NH-D15 KFA2 RTX 2080 EX OC 32GB DDR4 3000MHz Crucial Ballistix Samsung 950? Pro NVME 1TB Samsung 850 EVO Sata 1TB 4TB HDD (Toshiba I believe) 2x 2TB Hitachi HDDs in Raid 0 Silverstone 650W 80+ SFX PS USB-C PCIE extension card The parts that I need advice on how to replace: Asus Prime B350M-A mATX MB Corsair Carbide 100R Case Everything I have listed currently works, but the combination makes me uneasy. Both GPU and CPU underperform on this board, especially the latter (by a 10% margin in some cases), so I was planning on upgrading to X570. The Case is one of the cheapest Corsair cases on the market and I only used it because Amazon sent me this one accidentally and I wasn't patient enough to wait for another one. Now, I'm having a hard time finding a case that fits my cooler and HDDs but ideally should be smaller than my Mid-Tower. I am aware that ITX might not be the way to go here. There's one Asrock mATX X570 Board I am considering but the choice in good mATX Cases is disappointing. Please help me find a case.

So I haven’t done a build in years, but Ive wanted to get gaming build/every day user going. I’ve searched as much as I can and B450 seems the way to go. I ordered a MSI B450 Mortar Titanium ~$150, but have some reservations. I want to be able to run 2nd and 3rd gen AMD processors, while still getting an assortment of USB ports. I know the microATX is going to limit the ports. NVMe would be nice but not a deal breaker. I couldn’t care less about rgb. I was originally thinking a Ryzen 3 2200G processor, but I’m open to suggestions. I’m looking to spend about $300 on the mobo and processor. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

The TLDR version of this thread - I'm planning a new build from scratch and have some specific preferences for the motherboard: 6x SATA & onboard wifi in an mATX form factor. So far I've only found the Asus TUF-Z390 with wifi and... that's it. It will do the job, but I'd rather have other options to consider (the yellow/black colour scheme of the TUF boards is horrible), especially on the AMD side. Suggestions? If you need more details, please read on for the background... So my signature details both of my gaming builds - my original build from 2008 and its replacement in 2013. I've kept the old PC for an offline 32bit WinXP build, specifically to run my Win3.11/Win98 & 16bit games (my collection is something like 4-500 CDs/DVDs). The 2013 build was build with Win8 but took advantage of the free Win10 upgrade. The 2013 build is home to 28TB of HDD storage over 6x 3.5" drives and 3 SSDs totalling 2.5TB (1x 2.5" and 2x m.2 on a PCI-E bracket). My preference has always been to not go the NAS route, especially as network shares between the HTPC and gaming rig work well for my needs and adding another box seemed pointless for data I don't need remote access to. Both are full ATX builds and are in the UK. I'm now in California so moving either computer isn't possible for the time being (the Antec 1200 is 17.5kgs when empty). I'm therefore planning a replacement in the US. Budget is pretty flexible but I'm aiming to keep it in check at around $1k, not including GPU and monitor (since I haven't decided on whether to stick with 1920x1200 or upgrade to 2560x1440). The idea is to downsize the chassis but keep the options open to have as much storage as possible - therefore mATX is the best option for me. I'm also after a case that can sit on our new L shaped desk rather than on the floor (my UK rigs are on a wooden floor, it's carpet in SoCal). Main use will be gaming. I'm thinking of something like: Case - Thermaltake Core V21 CPU - i5 9600K or R5 3600X (obviously depends on the motherboard) Motherboard - ???? - at the moment only the aforementioned Asus board will fit. CPU cooler - thinking of an AIO as it's a PC that may end up travelling a bit, so a huge air cooler doesn't appeal. SSD - depends on eventual budget but bigger is always best for me, so a 2TB m.2 nvme drive PSU - Seasonic Focus Plus Platinum 650W (always willing to pay upfront if it helps keep the electricity bills down, which will help with the 4-9pm surge pricing we have to work around) GPU - depends on display but as I'm thinking of 1440p, probably the 2060 Super - don't need full max settings but something close is preferable. The 1660 Ti will probably cut it for 1200p. The Core V21 is the only locked component at the moment - it's an ideal case for me with 3x 3.5" & 3x 2.5" drive bays which should allow for 3x8TB and 3x4TB HDDs should I need them down the road. So I'm after a motherboard that will let me use all 6 mounts for storage drives (and 1, preferably 2x m.2 slots). As is probably obvious, I tend to rebuild every 4-6 years rather than constantly upgrade (apart from storage and GPU). CPU gaming/performance/price isn't the priority, I'm after the right motherboard to build around. Any suggestions welcome.
