Hi, I have the new MacBook Pro 15” 2017 500Gig version. My new dual monitor display Dell U2712D is on its way. I was wondering what are the best options for docking station to support 1440 res. Or can it be connected without a docking station? I have a Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter (USB-C to HDMI, USB C & regular USB port adapter). But looks like the HDMI for display supports only 1080p at 60Hz or UHD (3840 by 2160) at 30Hz but no info on 1440 res. Cheaper solutions welcomed!

Guys I'm getting the late 2016 MacBook 15 inch for 1500$ worth it?
-
I'm curious what the results would be if Stardock releases "Ashes of the Singularity" (Ashes of the Benchmark as Linus calls it) for iOS. I hope Linus will review the new iPad Pro but he maybe have to wait for iOS 11 which will bring more functionality like a Finder app, better multitasking, etc. Sources: 9to5 Mac and Bare Feats But one should remember that these are just synthetic benchmarks more often, they're not true representations of real world performance. But then again, this is not the first time a mobile SoC outperformed a desktop processor on a synthetic benchmark. The A9 chip used by the iPhone 6s outperformed an Intel Xeon in Geekbench too. I wouldn't call this fake news but I won't necessarily say that the new iPad Pro is overall faster than the MacBook Pro. It's probably because iOS is still way lighter than macOS. Another reason why the iPad Pro seemed faster is that it's already rocking their new file system "APFS" while macOS Sierra is still using HFS+ by default and Mac users must wait until macOS High Sierra to use APFS. But Intel should probably get worried. I'm pretty sure deep down in Apple's R&D labs, Craig Federighi and Jony Ive are probably having prototypes of a MacBook Pro running on an ARM SoC instead of Intel. They once made Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard to run both on Power PC and Intel chips, maybe they're also making a macOS that can run on both Intel and their Ax series SoCs. Hey @LinusTech, if you ever decide to review the iPad Pro, I have a test idea. Have the 10.5 iPad Pro and the MacBook Pro export the same 4K and 1080p/60fps footage via iMovie.

Hello Everyone, There is probably already a topic similar to this one, but I've been doing my research for quite a bit now and I really can't find anything that would answer my question. So just to set the scene I'm currently using Lenovo Z50-70 with Intel i5-4210U @1.70Ghz Nvidia GeForce 840M 8GB RAM and Windows 10 on it. I've been using it for almost 2 years now and I can say it had decent performance everything you'd expect form around 700$ laptop (EU price so it's a bit more than the USA probably). Playing GTA V, Minecraft and PES 2017 was quite nice. But the main purpose for this laptop was Uni ad since I'm studying ICT engineering with specialization in the game and mobile app development I've com to the point where I definitely need something more. Basically, I'm considering to get MacBook Pro 13" with touch bar because it has better CPU's than the nontouch bar model but there are multiple CPU and RAM variants so I was wondering can someone help me a bit about that. Just to make it clear Windows Laptop is also an option but I'm currently aiming at Mac because of Unity3D and IOS development. Shortly I need help about the new laptop for Java programming in Eclipse, Unity3D, IOS development and some basic to intermediate video and photo editing. Budget would be around 2000 EUR (~2240.14 USD)

Before I get too much hate for posting about this, I know Apple hardware is greatly overpriced for what you get, but here is my delima. I have a discount of Apple hardware that will make the purchase much more affordable and I’m wondering if the extra price tag for the 3.1GHz I7 is worth considering, or is there a similarly speced laptop in this price range? For background the pricing I am looking at is for the 15 inch, 2017, 16GB, 512 SSD, Radeon Pro 560 4GB. The 2.9GB i7 will cost me $1,599 The 3.1GB i7 will cost me $1,749 I will be doing light video editing and maybe brief gaming, nothing intensive, mostly Starcraft/Starcraft 2. Also I already own a copy of Final Cut X

Hi there, I have had my latest Macbook Pro 15-inch (Late 2013) for 2 and half years, give or take a couple of months. When I was doing some photo importing the other night, the CPU diode temperatures were being reported in the high 90°C's, even with the fans on full blast. I know Intel CPU's are supposedly good to run at temperatures of 105°C before they throttle, but I am concerned that prolonged periods of high temps is going to severely decrease the lifespan of the components. The temperatures have never actually caused any faults or errors. I have played games on it in Windows for 12 hours straight and never had any issues even though it ran hot. Before this MBP, I had a 17-inch MBP, and that too suffered from similar high temperatures. Should I really be worried or is this acceptable? Thanks

Allright, here comes another topic about cheap eGPU's! What it boils down to is I'm looking for a cheap eGPU enclosure for my 15" rMBP from 2015. You're probably thinking: why is this chap asking for a cheap enclosure, when he can afford a MBP anyway? Well, the MBP was bought from an entirely different budget than my gaming stuff, in this case my budget for school related items and just my regular budget. Aight, that's out of the way. I've already got two candidate GPU's, a Gigabyte GTX560TI and an MSI RX470 8G and quite a collection of 350W ATX PSU's, so the budget for the enclosure won't cover those things. I've got about a 100 bucks for an enclosure, but so far I didn't seem to have any luck finding one. Is there really nothing out there? I don't mind pulling a Linus uhh doing some DIY stuff. I simply don't want to buy an enclosure that's equally expensive or even more expensive than my actual GPU's...

I’m curious if I could use any computer (assuming that it’s motherboard has a thunderbolt 3 port) to act as an eGPU for my MacBook Pro? In case the answer is no, what would be the limit?

macbook pro rMBP Early 2015 Screen won't show anything
briankarabin posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I have a retina MacBook Pro 13" Early 2015 running MacOS Sierra I was using my computer and all of a sudden the screen just faded to black like it was going to sleep but everything else was functional, and the backlight was on after pressing a key. I tried rebooting, as well as resetting the PRAM and SMC but all that has resulted is the Startup chime upon boot and a seemingly functional computer except for the fact that the screen is just backlit black displaying nothing. It came back on earlier today however returned to this state about an hour later. Is there something I am missing or another means of attempting to resolve this issue? Or is it a hardware issue? It seems like a software issue. -
This thread is about why you love Apple's OSX. Why do you love it? Do you prefer it over Windows? What do you dislike? Do you find yourself all alone in an ocean of Windows or Linux, or do you find yourself with the majority of illuminated apple logos? Where could they improve? What could they bring back? What was your first Apple computer, where did you get it, how much did you buy it for, and what was it like when you first started it up? No we are not Apple fanatics, we are not silver metal casing and white illuminating logo lovers, we just prefer things a little.... well you will find out what the last word will be. My first apple product that I got was an old iMac. I don't remember the specs or year but it had the clear plastic all over it. I remember powering it on... wow. Plus it was free (it might have been stolen.... but who knows). The previous owner did not wipe the hdd. So a quick call to apple and $20 later I had some software on the way. I tell ya that was a awesome feeling. Installing the software and seeing all the animation was intoxicating. Windows could learn a thing or two from Apple. I hated to see it go, but $75 bucks wasn't too bad. My first purchased Apple computer was a 2012 Macbook Air 11 inch. I love this thing. I got for $400 from a classmate on the second semester of college. The feeling of powering it on and playing with updated software... ohhhh gives me a hard on. I love it because it is simple (took a little getting use to but with some homework I wasn't doing too bad). The OS doesn't take much resources like windows does. It is clean looking and I like that. Would I replace my Windows pc... nope. I love my Win. 7 pc. I will never let it go unless it's reached it's end like Win XP has. Software running of XP is impossible. I find myself to be in a mix of both windows and mac. I never see linux out in college. I don't have any hates just a few dislikes like how you have to go around your elbow to get to your thumb for certain tasks or finding things, or getting to a certain file or program or moving something. The command button is not placed in a good spot. Please share your experience.

I was thinking to get the macbook pro 13inch (2015) with 256gb storage, 8gb ram and 2.7 GHz i5 version for video and photo editing (FCPX - Premiere - Lightroom). It costs 1350 dolars on B&H (with that specs). would it be enough? or do you think the upgrade of ram or CPU would be worth it? [knowing that the ram upgrade (to 16gb) adds 350 dolars, and 2.9 GHz, 200 dolars] Or buying the base model (128gb storage) and use an external hard drive would be a better option? (171 dolars less on the laptop, but some more extra dolars on external hard drive) If the difference is minimal, I would preffer the cheapest of them. Thank you in advance!

Apparently someone on Reddit has managed to get the Razer core working on MacOS Sierra using a utility which "patches a kext in Sierra to enable TB3 devices" - solving Linus' complaint from WAN show (Dec 16th). Has anyone else tried this? (link:

So Linus, as always went and made bold statements that are quite frankly inaccurate in the latest WAN Show My questions and comments on this to Linus 1) How do you think the all in one MBP dock (with HDMI, 2x USBs, SD Card, ethernet) would work on USB 3.1 when the two USB 3.0 ports would saturate the connection? Apple shows how you can dock MBP to a barebones desktop with a single cable (which I believe is the future) and that's only possible with TB3, not USB 2) Did you forget the fact that you can daisy chain thunderbolt and can potentially connect 4x6 devices to it? The MBP even being capable of that many expansions is incredible and far lot more than what anyone would ever need 3) Linus, you yourself use Thunderbolt 2.0 to connect to a dock in your home. Would that have been possible with a long USB connection? 4) You invested in 10Gb/s network for transferring files around the office. Isn't it better to have 40 Gb/s in the future? With Thunderbolt 3, its also possible to work off an external storage, instead of transferring it @LinusTech @nicklmg

so I recently purchased a touch bar MacBook Pro from the Apple Store, on Thursday. I did read all of the negative reviews and complaints, but I thought that they didnt apply to me, so I went ahead and bought one. a few points I would like to point out. 1) its damn beautiful machine 2) the usb-c issue I feel was very over-hyped. For professionals, the lack of an SD card reader is frankly the only thing I can get on board with as far as IO is concerned. If you are a professional, I would assume that you carry your MacBook in a laptop bag or maybe a backpack, there will be room for the dongles that you require. I honestly haven't plugged anything in to it yet, other than my iPhone which they do sell USB-C to lightning cables at the store for 25$, whatever I don't mind. 3) Keep in mind, I am a student. I am in no way a professional (yet) and I don't use it for any intensive tasks, yes I will get berated by some of you for getting a machine like this for school, but thats my biggest issue with the new MacBook Pro. its name. It should have replaced the MacBook Air and let the pro tasks to the 15 inch. 2 cores and no dGPU are an issue for pro users. 4) Yes this thing is bloody expensive, but what apple product isn't, I wanted to get involved with Mac OS, I had never used it and I've been told by people around me at school that its the way to go. I would love to answer some questions about it because I want to defend the product, because I don't believe it is getting what I deserves. I do understand the issues that people have with it, and I would love to share my experiences. Desktop PC is has intel 4690k i5, Gigabyte G1 GTX 970, Z170 ASUS motherboard. I am not an apple fanboy.

The new 15" macbook pro has fast quad core cpus in a very thin case. Has anyone tried themselves or seen a video online where they put a full load on all 4 cores and show the cpu frequency vs time?

Now, before you jump to "Macs aren't good for gaming" or something similar, you should know that I already know that and that isn't why I got this MacBook. I instead got it for college, to run some of the Apple-exclusive software. I recently happened to come into possession of a 2015 Retina Display MacBook Pro with a 13" screen. It's a nice laptop in every way and it'll play Roblox very smoothly even at highest graphics settings (and that's on battery). I've seen videos of people installing Windows onto these things and running games like Skyrim, which run surprisingly well on the integrated Intel Iris graphics these things have. I've been looking around Steam for free or free-to-play games that don't take up a whole crap-ton of storage (ie. 6GB or less, and even that's pushing it) because I got the base-model MacBook Pro, which only has 128GB of built-in storage. Certain limitations prevented us from spending the additional ~$250 to get the 256GB model (I know it's an expensive laptop, but this was our limit) so I'm stuck with the 128GB built-in. For other things, I'd get an external drive but I don't have one of those yet. Does anyone have any ideas of free or free-to-play games that are good and also run on the Mac? I do have Cities: Skylines, but I'm not impressed with how it runs on this laptop. I've seen footage and it's not very good, unsurprisingly. Gaming is absolutely not the focus of this machine, but I would like to play the occasional game wile I'm waiting for my next class. For the record, Roblox will not load on the school's network, even though it is actually fast enough. My guess is that they prevent such demands on the network from being fulfilled.

Hello, I am having trouble with a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) running (macOS High Sierra version 10.13.6). Before I did any upgrades to it, it was working fine, no problems what so ever. Now I am running into constant restarts. I have replaced the battery, the ram and the hard drive. I have replaced the ram with G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Memory for Apple Model FA-8500CL7D-8GBSQ I have replaced the hard drive with a WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB Internal SSD - SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5"/7mm Solid State Drive - WDS500G2B0A After I have replaced the battery, ram and hard drive, I have been getting constant restarts at random times.I have also done a fresh install of macOS High Sierra too and still run into the same problem. These restarts would happen under light work load, heavy work load or even plugging in a usb drive. I have no idea why this is happening. If anybody can help me that would be great. Thank you.
