Trying to get better about my backup solutions and I'm in the process of exporting pics from Photos (with iCloud Library on if that makes a difference) to multiple external drives for redundancy. TL;DR- is there a way to read asset "numbers", such as asset: 56CDA012-50C8-4065-A1A4-2CF1A22955DF/L0/001 from a Photos Library? To elaborate: In the process, used PowerPhotos (v2) to assist. Took overnight, as I have 1.97 TB of photos, but it gave me a handy little log showing that everything exported except for about 400 some pictures. Settings say in log file " 2022-11-24 20:13:32.286 Starting export of 45572 photos to /Volumes/WD 6TB 1 2022-11-24 20:13:32.286 Settings: folder organization: single folder, file naming: filename, file creation date: photo date, file modification date: photo date, existing files: Keep both, photo export type: unmodified original, format: JPG, quality: high, size: full size, include Live Photo videos: true, include all bursts: true, video quality: h264_1080p, and metadata: date, keywords, title, and caption" I've taken the log (entry="022-11-24 20:15:48.092 An error occurred (-1): PhotoKit returned an error from data request for <PHAssetResource 0x600003f70320> - type: photo, uti: com.canon.cr2-raw-image, size: {3888,2592}, filename: IMG_2167.CR2, asset: 56CDA012-50C8-4065-A1A4-2CF1A22955DF/L0/001: The operation couldn’t be completed. (PHPhotosErrorDomain error -1.)") and stripped it down to just the filenames and determined they are all in sequential order, the ones that are missing. It was nearly solved, but then I realized I had multiple different photos named "IMG_2167" (only 3-4 it seems for each grouping) and I can't seem to tell where the gap is, if there is a gap at all. Now, when I exported them, since there were multiple file names that were the same, it appended a number to some, BUT it did it in a haphazard order (in retrospect I may have been able to change some setting to prevent this). For instance, photos in 2009 are 1838.cr2, 1839 2.cr2, 1040.cr2, 1841 3.cr2 while in 2010 it was 1838 2.cr2, 1839.cr2, 1840 3.cr2, with no seeming reason in increasing the appended number up or down either forward or backward in time (of when the picture was taken). In looking to type this just now, there was a "1850 2.cr2" photo in 2011, with a "1850 4.cr2" in 2009. The missing numbers start at 1838 and end at 2198 (inclusive) and I've sorted the full lot of images both by name and by date taken, and looked around 1836-1837 and 2199-2200 to see if there maybe it was a specific photo project that was missing, but there's absolutely nothing obvious missing when it comes to the files. I have these asset numbers/codes that seem to be attached to each photo, and I was hoping to at least try to use those to see if i could locate the error files in the photo library itself, but i've yet to find anything that resembles that code in the standard info pane. I really don't want to export 45K photos again-any suggestions?

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I am not shure whether everything is correct, please correct me, if there is anything to improve. Now I have a problem. I want to recycle my PC as a server. The specs are listed down below. Thing is I know exactly what it has to do, but not how to achieve it. This is where you guys hopefully can help me. It definitely has to be usable with MacOS, should be cheap (I started studying so money is a factor) and only to be used via WiFi. To be totally clear, I don't have access to a cable, only to a wireless connection. Function wise I need it to be usable as a file server and maybe as a password manager or as a virtual PC. Any help is appreciated Thank you in advance All the best, Benedikt Specs: Ryzen 7 1700X Nvidia GTX 1070ti 256 GB SSD 1,5 TB HDD

I’ve got a full system Windows PC and Hackintosh dual-built into an Obsidian 1000D case. They are essentially 2 separate machines, which I will only ever use one at a time. There will never be a 3rd machine. I’ve got: 1x 4K Monitor 1x USB Hub - mouse, keyboard, gaming controller 1x USB Hub - Logitech G560, microphone, webcam I’m assuming there must be a range of quality differences between different KVM switches. All my used IOs on both machines are USB3.2 Gen 2. Is there a way to conveniently switch between the 2 machines without losing too much picture quality, audio quality, transfer speed? I’m new to KVMs. Thanks in advance!

So I found a macbook on eBay, and when I asked the seller about the problem this is what they've said. But I can't seem to wrap my head around what the actual problem is? "Seems to work fine but (I think only when not on charge) will put itself to sleep and then says it can’t find the os, can be ok if resetting the nvram, doesn’t seem to be a problem if plugged in so apple suggested the battery replacement which has been done but still happening."

mac mini Buy now a Mac mini M1 or wait for M2?
FreqEvans posted a topic in Laptops and Pre-Built Systems
Hello people of LTT, I'm Ivan, computer techinician from Italy A friend of mine graphic designer that only works in 2D (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Affinity equivalent): no 3D whatsoever, thought to buy a new computer, and he reached me for an advice. He has a Mac Pro 1,1 from 2006 with El Capitan modded for EFI32 and an iMac 21,5" from 2011 (even w/o an SSD!!!). Now, as I wrote in the title: better wait or buy now a Mac mini? (Yep, he wants an Apple device) The Mac mini M1 with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage in Italy costs more or less 1200 euros, which nowadays it's the same in dollars. I don't think that with the same amount of money in 2-3 months he will be able to buy an equivalent M2 Mac Mini with the same exact specs... I really think that with M2 will raise the price by 300-400 euros of a base Mac mini. So, what are your suggestions? Thank you in advance! -
Hello, I am trying to install windows 10 on a Mac Mini 2011 after installing windows and restarting it, I can not get back into it. the screen goes bank or black and nothing happens after that. Does any one know about this? I have searched and searched for a solution but still has not found it. I tried to fallow this guild to help me also but did not. https://gist.github.com/oznu/8796d08d73315483c3b26e79a8e3d350

Hi everyone Long time viewer, new poster because I have a headache inducing issue. Yesterday, I ejected one of our work hdd external drives normally (it has a mirror but a day's work of editing got lost). It wouldn't mount again later in the day. Drive can be seen in Utility, but it's not mountable and not repairable. We found the Disenter Error and this thread on Apple. https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/695361 I've tried everything there and other fsck commands in Terminal (including in Recovery Mode). Files are there, recovery software can see them. Any ideas besides buying an iPad and copying files on wifi (lol, no)? Any poor soul here managed to fix theirs?

I might live under a rock but I truly hate Microsoft Edge. It makes me instantly become a truly hateful person. Microsoft, come on you have some extremely smart (mostly) people working to make Windows a great experience that just works. But when you shove Edge down my throat it makes me truly appreciate that I have a Mac and can escape this hell. If I set my default browser to Chrome USE CHROME. IF I SET CHROME AS A DEFAULT BROWSER DEAR GOD DON'T USE EDGE WHEN SEARCHING FROM THE START MENU. I love chrome not Edge, anyways does anyone know how to fix this? I would like to kill Edge but I don't know how. (Im on Windows 10 using a Mac running Boot camp)

Budget (including currency): $4000 CAD Country: Canada Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Wedding Photography. Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, Photomechanic, Illustrator, Firefox for email, quicbooks and squarespace, Premier (short videos for instagram), Acrobat, MS Office. Odd minecraft session on a realm with friends. 99% work machine. Canon R5 files. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): - Colour accurate monitor. 4k and 27". Thinking Asus Pro Art or LG? Maybe the new Samsung Viewfinity S8 if it becomes available? - Also considering a Mac Studio, as I use MacOS and iOS for all my personal stuff and like the ecosystem. Just not sure what would be a better work machine. I currently have a close to fully loaded 2018 15" tbMBP. It is great for most things, and doing preview galleries, but can no longer candle large wedding shoots with the larger files out of the newer cameras. I shoot on Canon R5's. I have heard that the new apple silicon is pretty amazing. Just don't know enough about what kind of hardware my tasks would benefit from the most. I would like a lot of ram, since I do know that my 16gb is not nearly enough. It is always at 100% Thank you to anyone who spares some time to help! Sorry I am not more tech savy. I try to keep up, but I work to much to stay in the know on all the hardware

Hey Guys! Hope you are doing well. First of all, I apologise if this is not under the correct sub forum. I'm a newbie so please excuse the indiscretion and add this to the appropriate forum. Now onto the issue. I want to buy the new M2 MacBook Air. However, I wanted your opinion on the version I should buy. I definitely want to buy the 16 GB RAM option so that's out of the way. However I am confused as to whether I should take the Mac with the 256 GB SSD or should I take the 512 GB SSD model ? I don't use up much space on my laptop and I know that the 256 GB SSD would suffice for me. However I have the following concerns: The 256 GB SSD has a single NAND Flash Chip and as such has slower read and write speeds compared to the 512 GB model. i) Would this lead to less reliability in the 256 GB version (SSD life) ? ii) Would the eventual and inevitable depreciation of hardware performance over the years hit me hard due to the single chip and slower speeds ? iii) Would the higher read and write speeds of the 512 GB model be noticeable in everyday usage ? iv) Any other valid concerns which may be raised as per the opinion of fellow community members. (The person who has to use this laptop is a law student who has to use the web browser with a lot of chrome tabs open, lots of Microsoft Office Products and lots of content streaming) Regards,

I dual booted my mac and tried to delete the alt boot but it failed. After booting my mac again will always boot to gnu grub. I’m not sure how to use gnu grub, so I tried using exit and halt but it just didn’t work. My boot manager refind doesn’t see my mac hard drive anymore and the recovery assistant drive manager doesn’t access the space gained from deleted the other boot. Please help me. I tried the internet recovery but the only option that can do anything is reseting my computer but I don’t want to do that.

Bought a used MacBook Pro 2012 for a good price came with no OS instAlled, went into recovery mode and when it goes to verify the macs info it fails to re install. I have done the following to try to get to internet recovery mode: reset the nvram numerous times tried to make a bootable usb of the OS X Mountain Lion from a windows machine (I have no other macs to use the utility line to make a bootable device) the MacBook Pro can read usb devices as I need a usb mouse to click and it reads the old HDD that’s connected externally. i hVe both tried to connect through both wifi and through Ethernet to reinstall the os. what other steps should I try to get the is reinstalled or at what point do I try to figure what hardware failure is happening

Hello lads, I currently have my personal laptop ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 5 (14" Intel) and will soon receive MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) from work (yes, it's a startup and we're on budget ). I'm moving to a new house and I'm going to build a new setup/working station that is good for both my personal laptop as well as the MacBook. To do so, I need to figure out how I can easily switch between both using a docking station where I don't need to switch more than one cable (ideally have both connected). However, I'm not sure if there's such a docking station that support both systems. Can you please recommend how I can achieve this? and If it's not possible, what's the maximum I can achieve? My setup will consist: GIGABYTE G34WQC A 34" 144Hz Ultra-Wide Curved Gaming Monitor, 3440 x 1440 VA 1500R Display, 1ms (MPRT) Response Time, 90% DCI-P3, VESA Display HDR400, FreeSync Premium, Black (G34WQC A-SA)Portable Monitor 15.6, UPERFECT 2022 Portable Computer Monitor, FHD 1080P HDR Frameless Ultra-Slim Lightweight Gaming Screen with Foldable Kickstand, VESA, Mini HDMI 2 USB C for Switch Laptop PS4 XboxLogitech MX Keys Advanced Illuminated Wireless Keyboard for Mac - Bluetooth/USB Logitech MX Master 3S - Wireless Performance Mouse with Ultra-fast Scrolling, Ergo, 8K DPI, Track on Glass, Quiet Clicks, USB-C, Bluetooth, Windows, Linux, Chrome - Graphite Edifier R1280DB Powered Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers - Optical Input - Wireless Studio Monitors - 4 Inch Near Field Speaker - 42w RMS - Wood Grain Appreciate your help!

For background, my wife is getting into video editing on her 2017 MacBook Pro, and I'm shopping for a monitor for her. I was leaning towards a 27" 4K Asus ProArt monitor, but then came across the video below. Seems like this guy bought the same one, but then ran into issues with the performance hit from MacOS scaling. I'm mostly a Windows guy, so I'm not up on what I should watch out for in the Mac world. My questions for the hive mind: Is this guy correct? Is this something, I should worry about? If he is correct, should I only consider either 5K or 1440P at 27"? Thanks for reading. Let me know what you think.

Apple claims the Mac Studio with M1 Ultra is the most powerful computer you can buy for $4,000. Does that put AMD, Intel, and Nvidia on notice – Or is Apple making claims they can’t back up? Apple broke tradition and announced hardware at WWDC. M2 Macs are on the way with bigger GPUs and tighter integration with macOS, iOS, and iPadOS - The PC world may need to rethink its priorities.

I’m trying to create an adaptive workstation that my wife and I can use for all of our computers. We have 4 laptops between us (work and persona) that include MacBooks and PCs. I also have a gaming desktop that I built several years ago. Some of these have USB C and thunderbolt, others only have USB A (and hdmi) I want to find a dock that can be hooked up to a monitor, mouse, speakers and keyboard that would allow us to sit down with any computer and plug into the peripherals with 1 or 2 plugs. Power delivery is not a must have. I know that’s a lot range for one dock to cover. Does anything like that exist?

Hi, LTT forum! I am a multimedia technology creator, and I am not sure what is best for me in terms of device buying. I do 4 things on my laptop right now. I edit photos I edit videos I program And u know, just Word/Excel/Chrome stuff I am thinking about updating to a new device this summer. I need something that will be able to do all that and be a laptop/easily transportable PC-like machine. My choice right now is between finding something from like Idk Asus in the $1000 range and buying Macbook/Mac. My primary choice is on (refurbished) Macbook. So I want to ask you: do you think that for the tasks that I have - I would have a better time with windows or mac based devices? Cons: price, ports, inability to play games from time to time, and need to pay for Adobe Products (I don't right now profit from my work, just learning) and other programs, that on Windows would be free Pros: I am already iPhone and iPad deep into the ecosystem and it is easy and convenient; sidecar; the silence of the coolers, weight, aesthetics, and UI design; screens; "It just works" kind of feeling So what do you think? And please don't hate on me just for asking

There is the possibility to add a "quirk" so that Mac Studio recognizes the ssd device of third-party (in order to understand what I'm talking about, just use a search engine). Obviously we are talking about theory (this technique is usually used with Linux): I not have a Mac Studio, I cannot verify it personally, and I do not intend to buy it :). Note that the "quirk" can also be added to the raspberry. Bye.

I work in IT and have limited OSX experience. I know a handful of simple things, but I'd like to feel confident when presented with a Mac and also be able to apply for jobs that require working knowledge of OSX. Yes, everything is a google search away, but I'd like to become familiar. I have a 3060 so Hackintosh is off the table. I've been looking at older Mac Mini's, but I wasn't sure if there was a good secondary option. I'm just looking for something that can browse the web and not be so dog slow that I avoid using it for that reason. I saw this, it fits in what I'm willing to spend, but I'm open to other ideas/options. This one supposedly can run Monterey (which is important to me), but I also don't want to be pushed aside once OSX 13.0 is rolled out. https://www.ebay.com/itm/274252955037?hash=item3fdabffd9d:g:SCUAAOSwx1ReFg3V EDIT - I also don't want it to be super slow on Monterey. I want "it runs Monterey" not "It runs Monterey***"

Apple’s Peek Performance event is over, and now that M1 Ultra is out of the bag, we now know that Macs are getting the chiplet treatment. What does it mean for PCs? And what about the Studio Display?
