For context, I have a 2019 16" MacBook Pro that my company provided me (This is VERY important because it means I don't have administrator access nor I can take the computer to an Apple Retailer) and it is the second laptop they've given me that experiences this issue. This doesn't start happening until I've finished installing all my work tools (I think this is relevant because I suspect it is one of the tools causing this issue). I can't be too specific because many of the tools I use are in-house tools made by our company or clients however, I'd like to know if there is a way I can determine what process is causing this failure by reading the logs. Worth noting, in my project we have a shared 13" MacBook pro with the exact same Ventura 13.4.1 MacOS version and running without this issue, and as far as I know no one else in my company has reported this issue (I asked on Slack on our Mac users group). To be clear, this error is somewhat harmless at the moment (I only get this GPU panic error after I take my MacBook back from Deep Sleep (AKA close it and don't open it again until I'm back at the office the next day). It's not much of an issue at the moment but I have seen posts online that report the laptop will literally black screen and shut down while being used and I'm afraid it could evolve into that. The company will gift me this laptop once it's retired in a few months, so I'd really like to fix this issue if possible. Specs: CPU: 2,6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7 Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro 5300M 4 GB Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB Memory: 16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4 OS Version: MacOS Ventura 13.4.1 I'm not well versed with MacOS as I've always been a Windows user, so I'm not entirely sure on how to navigate the logs and troubleshoot, which is why I'm turning to the community for help. What we've tried so far (with the SD guys): -Format and reinstall MacOS straight up from the latest version (So no MacOS updates performed) -Disable Auto GPU switching -Disable Enable Power Nap -Enable Power Nap on Always -Put hard disks to sleep whenever possible in all configurations -Run a health check of the hardware (turned out all OK) Panic Report: "bug_type" : "210", "build" : "Bridge OS 7.5 (20P5060)", "crashReporterKey" : "c0dec0dec0dec0dec0dec0dec0dec0dec0de0001", "date" : "2023-07-08 03:07:57.78 +0000", "incident" : "A3F13EE1-CD26-4348-AAE9-64119A94C6FE", "kernel" : "Darwin Kernel Version 22.5.0: Thu Jun 8 17:10:34 PDT 2023; root:xnu-8796.121.3~5\/RELEASE_ARM64_T8010", "macOSOtherString" : " ** In Memory Panic Stackshot Succeeded ** Bytes Traced 678057 (Uncompressed 1713504) ** ", "macOSPanicFlags" : "0xc", "macOSPanicString" : "panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff7fa1557747): GPU Panic: [3:0:0][PPLIB] Failed Power Play Resume. I have been wanting to switch to mac recently and I have been researching about mac's after all my research and considering my budget, i have 2 devices in my mind. One being MacBook pro m2 8gb and another MacBook air m2 16gb. I work as a backend developer and some of the applications I work on consume a lot of CPU usage (I work with Go, Docker and have to monitor multiple databases sometimes) so it would be a great help if get a clear picture about these devices and how they perform.

I'm heading to Uni in August, and I have been struggling over picking a computer for ages. I don't necessarily need anything too strong since I'm planning to go into business, so just a spreadsheet machine should work, but my love for gaming has made my decision much harder. My decision is somewhere between either: Razer Blade 16 with prob a 4070 or 4060 15" M2 Mackbook Air + Steam Deck for games While both Razer and Apple offer student discounts, a Macbook Air and Steam Deck combination is still cheaper than a Blade 16 with a 4070, and about the same as a blade 16 with a 4060. I've seen recently steam advertising both Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy as Steam Deck Compatible (which I have trouble believing) but made me wonder just how capable the Steam Deck is. I don't play a lot of intense games, with the exception of Cyberpunk, RDR2, and hopefully Starfield when it comes out, and around 97% of my library is in steam, though I would be rather upset if I had a Steam Deck, and still had to wait until break to play Starfield because it isn't capable. On the other hand, the advantage of the Mac over the Blade 16 is obviously how well it integrates with my iPhone and iPad (which I also have for school). I'm also aware that the Nvidia Mobile GPU's don't often perform nearly as well as their Standalone counterparts. I am having a very hard time deciding between the two, but with the Deck's on the Steam Summer sale, I thought I'd get some other people's opinions, and possilby grab a good discount. So if you were in my shoes, which one would you choose? (Maybe in two years when I move off campus and have a bit more space I'd consider bringing my tower PC with me, but I just don't see it fitting in a dorm)

Summary The game porting kit Apple released turns out to have a publicly available launcher for windows games through a simple terminal command and working pretty much like proton does on Linux. This is based on Crossover Code and is published as open source from Apple. Quotes My thoughts There is not a lot of information out there but in the video you see how easy it actually is. installing it works super easy with homebrew in simple steps: https://gist.github.com/Frityet/448a945690bd7c8cff5fef49daae858e There are little amounts of people that have tried that yet since it requires the developer Mac OS beta but depending on how well this works this could be absolutely huge. people are saying the source code reveals it should be directx9-12 compatible. some guy made cyberpunk run on a m1 MacBook Air (15fps on ultra tho, but was impossible to launch before) here some other discussion about it: https://mastodon.social/@film_girl/110498328122064691 https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/142tomx/apples_game_porting_toolkit_seems_to_have_a/ Sources https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2023/10123/?time=237 https://github.com/apple/homebrew-apple

Hi, I bought a MacBook Pro 17” 2011 (A1297) labeled as “not turning on” because of the cheap price. I thought of maybe a broken trace on the mainboard or smth like that but when I turned on the MacBook it beeped 3 times on me. Not what I expected. I searched that up on the Internet, but I can only find people saying 3 beeps with a 5 sec pause in between is a RAM failure. But for me it is 3 beeps and a 3 second pause, I even confirmed that with a stopwatch. Does a 3 second pause mean the same as a 5 sec pause? If it does, then it is a RAM issue. But how could I fix that? I tried both slots 1 module at a time with both modules and I even did the same with a known working RAM module. I cleaned the slots and the RAM with Isopropyl, nothing yet worked. There are also many videos out there talking about how loose the pins of the RAM slots are, but these things are tiny and I have no microscope. Because I also can’t see any visible damage in that area I now wonder if it even is a RAM failure, which leads me to this post. I’m thankful for any help. EDIT: Whoops, I posted in wrong forum, meant to post in Troubleshooting, can anybody move me?

Hey, I'm reaching out today because I need some advice regarding finding a budget-friendly Mac for my friend who's a video editor. He's specifically looking for a machine that can handle 4K video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, with a budget ranging from $700 to $850. Now, I understand that video editing can be quite demanding, especially when it comes to higher resolutions like 4K. I understand that this is probably quite a wild shot in the dark. I am predominantly a Windows user and I am familiar with the HWinfo64 software that is often used in videos on the LTT channel among others. However, I recently came into posesstion of an older, Intel MacBook and was wondering if there were any legitamate alternatives that would run natively in MacOS. In theory I could install Windows via bootcamp on this machine however, that's a bit much simply just to monitor hardware. I am also aware that like Task Manager in Windows, MacOS's Activity Monitor will provide live feeds of processes as well as usage graphs, but on this occasion I'm more looking for something that will provide accurate temperature readings in a similar way to HWinfo64. I look forward to hearing the community's suggestions.

Hi all, I am looking to upgrade the storage in my 2012 Mac mini. I am going to be using it in a strange project that I am working on and I need them to be relatively reliable. I only need 500GB drives. I was thinking about getting the Western Digital SA500 but they are relatively expensive for only 500GB drives. I was also looking at the Crucial MX500 but people have been reporting a high failure rate of the drives prematurely. These machines will be spending a relatively long amount of time on each day, but will shut down each night. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks

Hi all, I am planning on doing an upgrade to some mac minis that I am planning on using in a cluster. The memory on them needs to be upgraded and I am just wondering what brand of memory to use. I have been doing some research and found that most people recommended Crucial for their reliability, however, they are pretty expensive. I saw on amazon there was a kit from a brand called TimeTec, but I have not heard about them before. Does anyone know how reliable this brand is or who is their chip manufacturer? Thank you for any feedback

Okay so, I now need a new SSD for my Mac Mini (A1347) 2014 We are going to purchase one but before doing so I just need a few guiding steps Heres what I am concerned about - Internet recovery mode, disk utility only has OS X Base system drive - Does this mean I would have to get a USB bootable stick and install the OS (Monterey) through internet recovery on install new OS, shutdown, then do the SSD Replacement, then boot off the stick? - I feel if I don't install the OS beforehand on this old one with a USB stick, then I don't know if I can enter Internet recovery mode/disk utility/ or anything at that matter on the new SSD - wouldn't it just be a blank SSD? Hence why I have once again come back to LTT, everyone here is amazing the forum and help is beyond Few things to add I will be doing the replacement of the SSD for the Mac Mini Before doing so I want to make sure I am doing it the proper way... Install OS Monterey on USB boot stick through internet recovery mode? - Will it be possible to move that OS from the USB to the new SSD later??? or Just go ahead with installing a new SSD? Thank you

My cousin gave me his old macbook with snow leopard os pre-installed. I updated the OS by clean install, but i encountered driver issues on that version (i forgot the name, i am a windows user since birth) I tried installing snow leopard with transmac using dmg file, but i can't seems to get it to boot. It gave me 3 error beep which indicate that the system can't boot from the USB. I tried other snow leopard image file but it gave me the same error. I don't know what to do anymore and i am not familiar with Apple, i am planning to use this computer for browsing and media on the go since the battery still good and the design still..well good enough. This is what the image (dmg) look like inside Transmac and my macbook model is A1278 I really need help on this, thank you in advance

Hi everyone, I have a MacPro 2009 (2x Xeon E5520, 64Gb ram 1022mhz ECC, amd Rx480) I wanted to do a DualOS, but boot camp is not supported on my Mac, I still managed to do it through Rufus, so, after I went to the system preferences and changed the boot drive from my Mojave to my Windows one, now I can’t go back to my MacOS, Cmd+R during booting doesn’t work, and booting pressing Alt seems to work, but my screen is black and doesn’t do anything, anyone knows a workaround for this? (I thought of removing the windows drive, this will show me "no boot drive insert CD/USB" on startup, and plug a Mojave Bootable usb and then either using the regular startup disk or a time machine I created before the whole DualOs, but I'd like a more permanent fix to make it easier go between the two OS)

Hi, my sister's macbook air 2013 died and i was not able to save it. But i was able to get an adapter for the SSD that Apple uses. Now the issue is, am not able to read it. I can see it in diskmanagment and also windows 11 gui for Disk and volumes. I tried with to read it with a "apfs" software called "Mac Drive 10 Pro", but was not recognized . and with ¨"HFSExplorer" i got the error: Not a HFS type drive / wrong type. The disk is not encrypted and if windows is not lying its a Fat32 system, but then i should be ale to read it correct ? Also the disk does not show up in normal windows explorer at all, only in bios and disk utility. Does any one have a suggestion ? The easy was is ofc to format it, and it would work fine, but i wanted to get the data from it first, since my sister for some reason did not have important documents backed up / in cloud

Quotes The sluggish sales of Apple's MacBook have already been predicted. Apple's Mac PC business revenue in the first quarter was $7.7 billion. This is a 30% decrease compared to the same period last year. Source: https://wccftech.com/m2-chip-production-stopped/

Hi everyone, I have an idea for a build using an M1 Mac Studio with an EGPU. This build is because I work on Mac and don't want to keep switching computers to play games after work. So I'm deciding to keep it all in one build, have a small form factor, and change the OS when I want to play. I know this approach is expensive and easier to build a PC, but I don't want to have another entire computer to maintain. My question is would it work on the windows dual boot side? And would it increase performance enough to play high-end games Budget (including currency): 3K (3000 USD) Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Work, Cyberpunk 2077, Witcher 3, any high-end game that requires performance really I have an extensive steam library. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Razor Core X EGPU enclosure: https://www.razer.com/gaming-egpus/razer-core-x/RC21-01310200-R3U1 MSI Geoforce RTX 4070 Ti: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GeForce-RTX-4070-12G/dp/B0BNWBJ8Z6/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2KT979PUAFK3N&keywords=4070&qid=1679954969&s=electronics&sprefix=4070%2Celectronics%2C108&sr=1-3&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.2b70bf2b-6730-4ccf-ab97-eb60747b8daf M1 Mac Studio: https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/mac-studio

Hi! My friend needs a new computer because his current computer is a MacBook Pro is from 2011. The main thing it would be used for is Adobe Creative Cloud. He wants to edit 4k footage in Premiere Pro. Which computer would you recommend? Laptop or Desktop doesn´t matter. His budget is around 8 to 9 hundred USD.

I have a windows PC I usually use to game when Im home, and a Mac for school. Every now and then when I'm not home I like to play games, and recently tried the Microsoft Remote Desktop client. It works well enough for what it is, except when I go to play games (Minecraft Java and GTA V are what I tried), the mouse starts having issues. In Minecraft, the mouse seems accellerated beyond control, and only looks down, and in GTA V there are similar issues with uncontrollable acceleration issues with the mouse. When I'm on the desktop, these issues don't exist. The mouse works fine on edge, the desktop, and other non game apps. Any idea what could be the issue and/or causing it? Thanks!

Mac no longer can get to Google using Chrome, specifically.
Catt0s posted a topic in Troubleshooting
(I would appreciate the absence of 'Why are you using Mac/Chrome/etc.' ) I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) running MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 (18G9028). I just replaced the battery. Everything seems to be going well, except SPECIFICALLY, I cannot get to ANY Google services, Specifically when using Chrome. I can connect just fine in Safari, but well, Safari. I am running Version 112.0.5598.0 (Official Build) canary (x86_64), and tried using the public build. I also tried going onto different networks, re-installing network certificates, switching time servers, changing DNS, using a VPN, killing mDNS, and more. I can get to any website that doesn't use Google services, mostly, they load a bit slower than normal, but the whole system seems a bit slow. Occasionally, Google will load, so I will try to sign in, and run into the issue again. (times out and the lock icon says not secure.) Interestingly, using incognito makes it work consistently, but there isn't much use logging in when using it. I tried disabling extensions and such and using other profiles too. This is driving me crazy, I need for this computer to work so I can work on schoolwork. Other notes: - No, nothing is happening in the network pane of dev tools. -
I don’t want to download the Olarila macOS file. I want to use this ISO to boot it. I know it’s possible but I don’t know how.

I have documents with a lot of content that use collapsible headings. I now have colleagues with Macs who are unable to expand any headings (no idea why the Mac edition of Word is missing this feature!) and therefore access any of the document's content. If I expand all headings before saving the document they're collapsed when opening it. What's the easiest way to remove the collapsible headings without loosing any content? Ideally I'd also like an alternative that keeps navigating the document manageable...

remote access Best Remote Desktop/Access Software?
gal-m posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Due to the nature of my work I need to access my main Windows workstation at home (in a different country within EU) from my MacBook M1 for lighter "task-based" tasks (not streaming video and such). I will be accessing my machine for prolonged periods of time (multiple hours at a time). Any good recommendations? -
Ok, I'll try to keep this short, I'm working on a friends iMac that is setup with a fusion drive. Recently the mechanical 1TB HDD that was in it failed, it started running very slow with super wonky read tests and it no longer boots into MacOS. I was able to sector by sector copy the failed 1TB HDD to a new 2TB SSD, the problem I'm running into now is that the drive will not boot into the OS due to some sort of corruption, but it is fixable by reinstalling MacOS. However, I cannot because the 2TB drive is only showing up as a 1TB drive due to the sector by sector copy and he has less than 9GB of free space which isn't enough to reinstall the OS, plus due to it being a fusion drive I cannot for the life of me figure out how to resize the partition to fill the full 2TB drive giving me enough space to reinstall MacOS. The data on this drive is very important and is irreplaceable business documents so any help would be much appreciated. TLDR: Is there a way to resize a mac fusion drive partition to fit a bigger drive?
