Hi everyone, I hope you're have an amazing day. TLDR: I want to install a SSD (Samsung 860 EVO 250GB SATA M.2 (2280)) in my HP 15 Laptop (HP 15 BS145TU) in the supported empty slot. But I want to migrate only Windows 10 on the new SSD and leave the Ubuntu on old HDD drive partition. So, my laptop has 1TB HDD. I've partitioned the drive into 3 parts 200 GB : Windows 10 installed 200 GB : Ubuntu 20.04 installed 600 GB : For storage Now I want to clone my Windows 10 into the new SSD drive and boot Windows 10 from the new SSD drive and leave the Ubuntu drive as it is. So while I turn on my laptop, I should be able to see both boot choices and if I select Windows 10, it should boot from new SSD and the Ubuntu should boot from the old partition that it was installed on. I've seen all the setup guide for installing new SSD and how to clone (via Samsung Data migration tool) and change boot order for windows 10 in BIOS so that it will boot from new SSD. The question is, do I need to take care of anything special in case of dual boot? How do I change the BIOS boot options in case of Dual boot? Also, I'm planning to upgarde my RAM as well. Is Crucial CT8G4SFS824A 8GB DDR4-2400 PC4-19200 CL-17 SODIMM RAM supported? (Link for Laptop manual is in below attached thread) I'm attaching screenshots of for your consideration My current bios settings (without new SSD installation) : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rA-a4VwKOzatIG_8LopdQ0aAxfINKD2p/view?usp=sharing The memory information for RAM from manual: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10XbBAmWJRGBTxu_CG_1bN48eIagB4FzC/view?usp=sharing Additoinal information: Laptop: HP 15-BS145TU The laptop has a seperate SSD slot for M.2 SSD Laptop manual: New SSD Model: Samsung 860 EVO 250GB SATA M.2 (2280) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-N6E250) The SSD is supported in my laptop. Here is a thread link for the same : (Link of manual is also in this thread)

A friend of mine is looking forward to build his new desktop pc and wants to put his C drive on a 240-256 GB m.2 ssd as the motherboard of his choice has one m.2 pcie/sata slot. The best solution according to my little knowledge is to go with samsung 970 evo. But that thing is currently very expensive (about 100$) in my region due to market shortage (other ssd brands are at normal price). Can somebody tell me any alternative from any other brand that would give similar performance and reliability ( dram cache, good controller etc.)? He wants to invest that budget to a better mobo ( b450 mortar max to the tomahawk)

FAILED Bios update. FAILED Formating drive. NOPE!! The result is one: PC specs: MOTHERBOARD - B450M-HDV (BIOS 3.30) M.2 SSD - ADATA XPG GAMMIX S11 PRO CPU - RYZEN 7 1700 GPU - RX580 8GB SSD - KINGSTON A400

Hi everyone who sees this. This is my first "Topic" post on here so be gentle. LoL Ok, so anyway, how should someone go about switching from a SSD(Operating System) + HDD(Mass Storage) to using a single m2 SSD? I should probably mention I moved some of the Windows User folders like "Documents" and "Downloads" to the HDD. I know it has become somewhat of "the norm" to have a SSD(OS)+HDD(Mass Storage) setup and there are plenty of guides on optimizing for this type of setup but I can't seem to find a guide on switching from the SSD+HDD to a single m2 SSD. I recently Came across a great deal from a friend on a couple Sandisk 1TB SATA m.2 SSD's (I think they are X600's maybe) and I want to install one of them and a standard 2.5" SSD (WD Blue 3D 500GB) to replace my older TeamGroup L5 Lite 120GB SSD and Toshiba 7200rpm 1TB HDD. I haven't fully decided on which drive I want to use as my OS/Boot drive yet as I can't seem to find any info on how to do this without a huge hassle. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Hello, I'm having way too much trouble making my brand new 970 EVO to work. Systems is as follows: ASUS Maximus VII Impact Samsung 970 EVO Intel 4790K 16 GB DDR3 GTX 980 I've already updated bios and tried disabling Fast boot, CSM and delete boot keys. My PCI-E 16_1 port is limited to 8x, which would seem to indicate the M.2 SSD is connected, but no luck yet. M.2 SSD doesn't appear neither in BIOS nor Windows. What else can I do? Any help, even if I've seem to done it already will be welcomed. Thanks a lot!

Hello, I have bought "HP 15-bs145tu laptop". In the manual it is said that it has M.2 SATA SSD slot. Also written that it supports "Value SSD" and "TLC SSD". User manual is attached. I want to buy Samsung 860 EVO M.2 SATA 250GB ssd. Official website says "NAND Type: Samsung V-NAND 3bit MLC". https://www.samsung.com/us/computing/memory-storage/solid-state-drives/ssd-860-evo-m-2-sata-250gb-mz-n6e250bw/ Will my laptop support this ssd? Also are the MLC ssd and TLC ssd mutually supported? Thanks in advance. Looking for your help. HP 15 Laptop PC (Intel) HP 15g Laptop PC HP 15q Laptop PC - Maintenance and Service Guide.pdf

Hey guys. A very quick question. Can you solder an additional memory module on any SSD? Take for example the image below. There is a portion where a memory module can be soldered on. This is intended for educational purposes only. I understand that there will probably be compatibility issues with what modules to use and possibly a software to do some reprogramming. But if this works, it would mean that I can expand any SSDs capacity by recycling memory modules off of a none working SSDs. Please do tell me your thoughts on the matter.

Hey Y'all, got a fun one for you. I recently upgraded my EVGA 650W PSU to a Corsair 850W unit, mostly for aesthetics but also because I needed the other psu for a second build I'm working on, and now I'm having some issues. THe primary issue I've noticed is that every once in a while, one in three I'd guess, the computer will post but then tell me to go back into the BIOS to select the correct boot drive and doing this will show that the BIOS doesn't see my m.2 SSD with Windows on it, just the SATA HDD I use for storage. This alone I can generally get past by restarting the computer again, I even tried removing and reseating the m.2 just in case I'd jostled it, but it's still inconsistent. The other issue I've found is that when I can boot into windows I can't use the start menu, most anything that I'd ascribe to the "System" process freezes up when I try to use it. After that happens I either have to let my computer slowly descend into stuttering and an eventual BSOD for "Critical_Process_Died" or restart and risk the system not seeing the m.2 again. So far I've tried: unplugging and reconnecting all my power cables power cycling the machine reconnecting the m.2 And once I get home I intend to try clearing the CMOS. Anybody else got any suggestions? My concern is that something is getting shorted(I even lost one of the tiny m.2 screws at one point, I'm still looking for it) and the last thing I want is to damage my SSD. Thanks!

Hi, After installing my first M.2 SSD, the new WD Black 1TB m.2 ssd, my fans after about 10 minutes ramp up and down then stay at 100% for a while on my AIO (Especially under load rendering, downloading updates or playing games) . I've already ordered an EKWB m.2 heatsink in case it's a temp related issue but I'm not sure if this will help. I've attached an image to show location of m.2 on my Maximus Viii ranger mobo. And yes, I know it's terrible cable managing. Is it possibly sitting too close to a temperature sensor?

Hey guys! My dad recently bought an HP Omen 880-160SE gaming desktop, and we tried plugging in a WD Blue 500 GB M.2 SSD. It's this one: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-NAND-500GB-SSD-WDS500G2B0B/dp/B073SBX6TY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526611509&sr=8-1&keywords=M.2+SSD+WD+500. We started up the computer with pre-built hardware, configured Windows and then created a backup to boot from. Only problem is, we can't even get the bios to boot with the M.2 plugged in. No screen, no graphics, nothing. Is this SSD card incompatible with the HP Omen we purchased? If so, we need to know soon so we can return the drive and purchase a compatible one. We talked with WD; their "customer support" couldn't tell that an M.2 was an "internal drive" and said that if changing the boot sequence didn't fix it, it's a Microsoft problem. HP tech support didn't understand what an M.2 drive was, and we talked to them both before and after purchasing the desktop, and they've been equally unhelpful both times. Does anyone know a good resource for this? Or can answer this themselves?

I am setting up a workstation server with the following components (plese find the attachment). I would like to get suggestions from experienced Tech GURUs. Considering this specification, will the presence or absence of Intel optane make difference in performance?. I think the data transfer between the DDR4 2400 and M.2 will be fast enough and Intel optain might remain unused. What do you guys experienced in real life experiments?.

I recently got the Zotac EN1060 barebone system and i wanted to outfit it with a m.2 ssd. I recently purchased a Toshiba 256gb Nvme ssd ( https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-256GB-Solid-State-Drive/dp/B074BJ7FC4). However the m.2 ssd isnt showing up in bios. Is there something that i must enable first in bios or perhaps my m.2ssd is just broken.

Hi, I am thinking of getting a new PC / upgrade. My main use cases are gaming, virtualization of servers for testing and a bit visual effects. Here is my current rig: CPU: Intel Core i7-4770 (non k) Mainboard: Asus Z97-A RAM: 16 GB DDR3 Corsair 1600 MHz GPU: Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 10 CM 600W CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 SSD: 2x 120 GB Raid 0 (Samsung 850 Evo) HDD: 2 TB I'm considering buying a: Intel Core i9-9900k (cause of the virtualization workload) 16 GB DDR4 (Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 3200) Asus ROG Strix Z390-F Gaming Mainboard 1 TB Samsung 970 EVO M.2 SSD First, does is make sense of getting a new rig? I initially wanted to get only the 2TB M.2 SSD but I read that those dosen't work well / make sense on Z97. What you guys think about the new components I am thinking of getting? And is my current PSU with 600W capable of driving the new rig? Thanks in advance for the replies Regards Max

Hey guys, I've recently purchased a 15.6" Lenovo Y700, based on your many suggestions for a good gaming laptop that will perform decent for a non-wallet-breaking budget. It's Free-DOS and the specs are pretty decent: i7, 4GB 960M, 8GB of RAM (1 stick), 1TB HDD @5400rpm, etc. The laptop hasn't arrived yet, and I know it has an M.2 2280 slot that's unoccupied. I have put my eyes on this Crucial MX300 275GB M.2 (2280) that I can get for roughly 80 euros. I'd be using the SSD mainly for the OS and a few large video games (like GTA V, Witcher 3, Doom, WoW, etc). My questions are: Is it worth the purchase? Some reviews say it's a good budget M.2 option. I'd already have the 1TB HDD so I don't need a larger SSD (I think(?)). If I buy the SSD, should I wait for it to arrive before I install my OS on my laptop, or is there a way to transfer the OS from HDD to SSD? Should I do the SSD job myself or take it to a shop? Because I've heard the Y700 isn't quite as easy to open as, let's say, the Dell 7559. Kind regards.

I'm thinking about buying the samsung 950 pro nvme pcie ssd (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015SOI392/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=E8K9QC3KK7F0&coliid=I1WU2EH6Y8YMS5&psc=1), but I don't have an m.2 slot in my motherboard. Is there any good quality m.2 to pcie ssd mount? There are one's for around $15 US but I don't know if they are gonna bottleneck the ssd in some way. Thanks for your help!

My laptop (lenovo y510p) came with a 32 GB m.2 drive that is quite slow (for an m.2). I store my favorite games on this drive and want to upgrade! However, I don't know where to start when picking a reliable drive and would really appreciate some help! The max size for the drive is 42mm and I would like a 120GB capacity. If possible I would like it to be non-bankbreaking. Thank You!
