$850-$900 Editing And Gaming Pc Build Advice.
Dunhamrobbie posted a topic in New Builds and Planning
Hi guys, My pc is getting very slow and I have had it for a number of years. So now I want to build a new one, I use adobe premiere pro and photoshop often. I play games like minecraft and some fps games as well as skyrim. I am looking to spend up to 900 us dollars. Thanks, Robbie D. -
By: Complx Hello everyone! Time for my 2nd scratch built case! This time the focus will be around one of my favorite games of all time, Mirrors Edge. And with Mirrors Edge 2 being announced at E3 this year, I thought, what a better way to celebrate than to build a case around the art direction from the game. I will be using this thread as a complete build log, from design, to CAD modeling, construction, and finishing. So lets get started shall we! One of the many reason I feel in the love with the game was the look and feel of the environment, as well as the game play itself. The environment was very vibrant, bright colors, a stark contrast to a lot of the dull brown a lot of games seem to have. For those of you who have not seen or played the game, here are some images for it that I drew inspiration from. For now, all that I have is an initial sketch of what I hope the final design to look like, I will be doing some photoshop work to it and do more sketching and drawing to get some of the finer details work out in the beginning. A overall ideas I have at the moment about the design Completely white exterior, one of the prominent features of the game is its use of white in all of the exterior buildings Bright colored interior, again, the use of very vibrant colors on the interiors of the buildings was interesting to see and I want to incorporate that into the design as well Need to be clean, inside and out, no mess no slop. If anyone has anything else they would like to add say, feel free to comment! I hope this goes well and thanks for viewing! Stay Tuned! Feel free to check out the livestream channel, I will be doing a lot of CAD modeling of this project, and you can watch the progress as I go. Times will be random, but check every so often, you might catch me at a time when I'm streaming! Livestream: http://www.twitch.tv/complxdesign

Whats up guys! So this is the start of project Desire! So this project is going to be based around a Corsair 300r. Yes, a small 'budget' case. But my mission is to take a lower end case and fit all the things a high end build would have, and still look tasteful. This build will, eventually, be cooled by a custom water loop. Emphasise on the eventually. I am only a student, therefore rely on earning my money from a part time job: but i am on summer holiday therefore i can work loads and earn the money i need. At least thats the plan. So as mentioned above, funds are limited. Therefore this project log may stretch for a while. Not years, but maybe months. I am going to start by performing the case mods, because they're the cheapest, and most fun. But i also already have a system for the time being. So at the moment, expect lots of mod updates, and in the future lots of hardware updates. Below i have put together a list of the components that I plan to use. But this list is subject to change. The Parts: Case - Corsair 300R Motherboard: Gigabyte z87-UD3H or Asus z87 Sabertooth CPU - Intel Haswell i5 4670K RAM - Corsair Vengeance Pro (So Sexy) PSU - Anything above 700W GPU - Either a 770 or a 670 Storage - Already own a 60gb ocz SSD, either 2x samsunjg 840 120gb pro's or 1x kingston 240gb Cooling: Cpu Block: EK Supreme LTX Copper Acetal WB GPU Block: EK FC670 CSQ Copper Acetal WB & EK FC670 CSQ Backplate Reservoir: Bitspower Z-Multi 250mm Water Tank Res : Clear Pump: 12V DDC Pump Radiator: XSPC RS360 360mm Rad & XSPC RS240 240mm Rad Tubing: Chromed Copper Pipes These parts will change, especially the cooling parts, as i cant predict where i will be funds wise and what will best suit my needs. The original Case: This is a picture of the stock 300R, just incase you havent come across it before. Overall its a pretty nice case. For £60 you get what you pay for and a little more. When I first bought this case i was like woah £60 is a little dear. I've never paid more than 30. But i don't regret the spend and definitely wouldn't spend a dime less in the future. I'm not going to write a full review cause theres plenty out there, but its a pretty solid case as far as features go. The Vision: Now, i'm no sketchup pro, therefore i stayed as far away as possible. Instead i went to what i know, Photoshop. Some of these renders are a little sketchy but they are only to give you an idea of my vision. So here are a couple sketches i've put together of what i intend to do, and a little description to help explain my ideas. The Front Panel: So this is my proposed front panel. I am going to use a piece of aluminum to cover the original front panel. There is going to be alot of rounded corners in this build, hence the rounded triangles. So for the mesh im going to use the original front panel mesh on the 300R, because i like the silver corsair logo and want to keep it. For the black acrylic, you guessed it, im going to use an opaque black acrylic. I dont really want this to act as a window, hence the opaque acrylic rather than smoked. Also i am relocating the usb and headphone ports, just because i think they look better on the side. Side Panel - So again with the rounded corners. Ive split the window into 2 sections, just because i think it makes it look a bit cooler. Unlike the front acrylic this is going to be smoked. So when the system is off, you cant see in, but when lights are on you can. Up top your probably wondering what is protruding out. Unfortunately, corsair didnt really design this chasis to fit a H100/radiator up top. So instead of just having fans or a rad planted on top, i thought id make a feature out of it. So im going to be using metal spacers to elevate a piece of black acrylic up, and then extend the roof section to accomodate a 360 radiator, currently only holes and space for a 240mm. This elevation technique will also be used on the side panel windows, dont ask why i just think it will look cool. Theres also some other features that im going to be vague about until actually doing, just because im not 100% on the design yet. Inside - So this is ,obviously by far, the most vague render. I couldnt really envision it in photoshop so i thought id go barbones and just show a vague layout. The res placing is almost definite. Unless i come across problems down the line. But the loop, flow etc is all just ideas. I am going to use alu or acrylic to section off the bottom and front, removing the drive cages and 5.25" bays. This will make room for a 240 in the front. So those are the main ideas and things that i am going to do. I hope you like! If anyone has any ideas/improvements, please feel free to leave your suggestions down below! I have already made a start on the front panel and the sectioning of the internals, so expect an update soon! And heres a rough little render of it all put together: Thanks for looking :D

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone from Melbourne, Australia could help me with my (semi)new build. Please see thread:http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/15451-updating-my-pc-mobo-gfx-cpu-cpu-cooler-help/ I'm now looking for someone to help me with the physical side of the build (i.e. installing everything) because I want to learn how to do this stuff rather then handing it on to a PC shop to do it for me. If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated, I can provide some remuneration for your time if necesssary. Thanks for taking the time to read this post!

Hello, and thanks for visiting my topic:) So I bought a Silverstone Temjin TJ07b-w USB3.0 case a little while a go, and I'm going to make a watercooled Z87 system in it. Here are some of my plans: 1. 360mm front radiator (this will be the main focus on this mod log) 2. Cable management holes 3. Cleaning up ugly holes that silverstone makes in my case 4. Paint everything black (not sure what texture) 5. Maybe removing top 2x120mm fan grill and putting a clear plexi window there 6. Put some 3,5" drives somewhere 7. Cool stuff you guys suggest!

Kwongger's Golden Circuits - H440 Build After a breif, underwhelming stint with AMD CPU's, I am retreating from the Dark Side, back to the Order of the Jedi. This will not be a rapidly moving build log, I am a High School Student, and will also be moving 1,500km over the summer :thumb: Unfortunately, I'll be using an AMD FX-8320 and an AsRock 990fx Killer until I can order the 4690 and Sabertooth... Intro. Welcome to the build log of my terminal keyboard conversion. Throughout this log I'll be going through the steps I've taken to convert a ADDS 1010 Green Alps mechanical terminal keyboard that was built sometime between 1986-1989. When I found this keyboard at a garage sale it was still in it's original plastic and looked like it had never been used. For only $4 it was an absolute steal!

Hello! Looking to build a PC soon, and just wanted some other opinions on some of the parts I have chosen: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/qPyhmG I am flexible to changes in any of my parts. What I am looking for is if there is a better alternative to a part for the price (or even a little more, maybe), or one that is equivalent (or better!) for less money. For example, I chose AMD for the CPU because it seemed like it had good performance for less money than an Intel CPU. I would also like to overclock at least the CPU, so I want the PSU to allow for that. I would like to add that I am not sure what peripherals to get, or whether to get Windows 7 or 8. I also looked at the ACER G246HL Abd monitor instead of the ASUS monitor. I might get that keyboard and mouse, but if there is a better alternative out there, which there probably is, I would like to get that instead. I must also add that I am a first time builder. Please give me your opinion and suggestions! Thank you!

Hi guys, I build myself my first Pc ever maybe 9 - 10 months ago and made some mistakes back then when buying the components. So I decided to slowly upgrade my Pc, first starting off with the case.. My current rig: Cpu: Intel i7 3770k Mb: Asus P8B75-M Ram: G.Skill Ripjaws 16Gb @1600Mhz Psu: 530 Watt Thermaltake HDD: Some random I found laying around Fans: Same here SSD: Adata Premiere Pro S900 128Gb Gpu: Zotac Gtx 670 Overclocked Case: Aerocool XPredator X1 The performance of this rig ain't bad, but i don't like the little details, for example the horrible cabel management in the X1, also I will prepare for SLI: I need a new Psu, Mb and a second gtx, even though i will buy that one in the end, hoping for some more price drop. Further, I will add a 1Tb HDD and another SSD for Raid0, as some better fans. To buy list: Mb: Gigabyte Z77X-DH3 Psu: Corsair HX850 HDD: WD Blue 1Tb SSD: Adata Premiere Pro S900 128Gb Gpu: Zotac Gtx 670 Fans: 3x AF120 Case: Corsair 540 Air RAM: G.Skill Ares 16Gb 1600Mhz Update 1: Today I bought myself the 540 Air, it's kinda strange to get it here in Germay.. My trusted retailers won't start shipping until October, so I was looking for some sites. It will be shipped in 6 Days, so i hope to get it in 10 days. I will give you guys some pics of my current rig before putting everything in the new case Update2: I think the next I'm going to do is the sleeving: I thought of going for black/blue Theme, since my case is black and the Mb i want to buy is main blue. I'll order them this evening, hopefully they arrive in the next two days!

Hey Guys, So last month i bought a new case for my main pc. I found all my old hardware from a long time ago and i thought i can make a linux based server. So i putted all the components in my old NZXT case. And i tried to boot it up...there was a flash and the power in the house shutted down. The psu was broken but system still works!(tested it with my dads psu) but after 2 weeks my dad needed his psu for the htpc, since then i never used the pc anymore. So today i saw the pc sitting in the corner collecting dust and i thought i realy need to make this pc work again. The NZXT case still is perfect the only problems are the fans they make to much noise and only work on molex. Upgrade 1: Fans So you can see the dust and there is no cpu cooler. Upgrade 2: Cpu-Cooler The video card is a Gigabyte Radeon HD2600. Still working fine and does it job. These are some of the stickers ofcourse it doesn't have any of these inside I don't think they still make these quality Sound Blaster stickers. This is the io, it has 7.1 out wich is great but it only has 2 usb ports so that's why it has an usb bracket at the bottom. The esata is bad you have to connect them via the sata ports on your motherboard. It has firewire :0 And 2 extra usb ports. Motherboard glory. 2x1gb ddr2 800 RAM. So now you have seen this all. I want to buy these parts: http://www.alternate.nl/Corsair/Corsair+VS350/html/product/1039455/?tk=7&lk=9307 http://www.alternate.nl/Corsair/Corsair+Air_Series_AF120_Quiet_Edition/html/product/999895/?tk=7&lk=9301 http://www.alternate.nl/Cooler_Master/Cooler_Master+Hyper_TX3_EVO/html/product/915236/?tk=7&lk=9344 Optional: 60GB SSD (it will have linux on it or else i will use my WD caviar Blue) Hope you guys can help me a little bit out with the parts. I think i'm going to start in a 1 or 2 weeks

Alas my old PC is no longer fit for use and it is time to upgrade and build my first computer. This new rig is going to be mainly used for gaming, programming and a bit of photo editing. Specs: Intel i5-4670K Noctua NH-D14 Asus Sabertooth Z87 MSI GTX 680 Twin Frozr OC Corsair Vengeance Pro 8GB (2x4GB) 1866Mhz (+ potential mix&match with random dimms) Samsung 840 Evo 120GB SSD (boot) Samsung 830 64GB (cache) 1TB seagate barracuda 72000rpm (cached) Seasonic G-series 550w 80+ Gold PSU (upgrade?) Silverstone TJ07 My goal for this is to make a nice looking rig with a bit of metal work here and there, air cooling for the meantime but might upgrade to a custom water-cooled loop later in the year. This is going to be a month or two long project so don't expect any finished pics till sometime next month. Index: First delivery Second delivery Stuff to come, bad news and questions Modding update: Now in 4K! (hopefully) New room and modding update! Aluminium everywhere!

So, we have a domain controller that is our network DNS. We want to log all external DNS requests made to the DNS (since it's the primary one for everyone) along with the Hostname of each person doing the requests. So say I am on Workstation1. And I go to www.bigbobssalebarn.com. Workstation1 will request from the DNS the WAN IP for that website. Logging would say "Workstation1 requested (website) at (date)." but in whatever format it wants. I've tried going into the DNS part of the DC and turning debug logging on, but it only gives an IP address and not a hostname, and it only gives successful resolutions, rather than all of them. Since it's a Domain DNS, it doesn't keep a record of actual internet websites and only keeps up with what's in our domain, so any request for external websites will fail and be passed on to external DNS (such as Google's or wtv). However, since it's the Primary DNS, it's going to get the request first regardless (from what I understand), so it should be able to log who asks for what. Basically, I need a way to log external DNS requests (i.e. not domain.com but anything for the internet) whether they resolve or not, with a way to record the hostname rather than IP.

Welcome to my first build log ever I don't really have much to say really, it was an awesome experience and I hope I did a fairly good job considering that, for a first timer, I might have set my standards a bit high and had a few difficulties here and there but I personally think it turned out great. Chibi PC 1.0 - Everything I Always Wanted But Never Needed
TheProfosist posted a topic in Build Logs
This OP will be copied a bit from my Build Planning Thread because I really dont see a reason not to. Also please dont expect this to be as detailed as the one on my desktop as that takes time I currently dont have and this build just seemed to fly together no really giving me a change to take intricate pictures. This build just kinda sort of fell together and im rather glad that it did. Just before Thanksgiving I had to pick up a friend and ended up being near a MicroCenter. Earlier that week I had seen a deal posted on the forum that you could get a i7-4770K for $199 until Novemeber 21st at MicroCenter. It just happened to be the 21st when I was there so I popped in to pick one up. While I was having a salesman get the processor out of the locked cabinet he brought up some deals that I could get deals on other stuff since I was buying a CPU. I was rather surprised at this since the CPU was at a price point where I thought they couldnt be making money on it. I decided to take him up on the motherboard offer since its was $30 off and they had one of the two Z87 ITX Boards I was interested in at the same price as Newegg. So I left the store with more than expected a Intel i7-4770K and a ASUS Maximus VI Impact wondering if they actually managed to make any money on the sale, especially if the salesman was paid any sort of commission. I choose a ITX board because it is one form factor that I have never built but have always wanted to mainly because I never had any real reason to. Also a small portable but powerful PC could really come in handy for me now and in the future. Because of the reasoning behind getting the motherboard I decided that the rest of the parts should be the same, parts that I have always wanted to try but they never really fit into a build enough to do so. I really hope many of you see some parts, tricks, mods, and ideas that you have never seen done before in this build. Lastly I would like to point out that normally I would not advocate getting a i7-4770K and this build does not change that fact. The only reason that it is in this build is the price I got it at and the fact that there are no 2011 ITX boards. A ITX build is probably the one place where I would suggest a i7-4770K but only if you needed the hyper threading. A good example of this would be what I plan to use it for, a mobile gaming/editing/capture rig. If there is anything else you want to know about the build or something you think I should add in the log please let me know. I will read all input and answer all questions as best I can, your input is appreciated! Please remember to to receive continued updates automatically! Parts List Update #00: I need help? Update #01: Sleep where? Update #02: You used that? Update #03: LEDz! Update #04: A hotswap in a ITX? Update #05: A mod here, a mod there, a mod where? Update #06: What, cable management in a ITX? o_O Update #07: It Lives! Update #08: At last, feet! Update #09: And the build comes back apart <.< Update #10: A shiny new pair of shoes. Still feel like I need to replace the stock fans that came with the 200r. Gaming is amazing for this rig. BF4 is the only thing tested so far. I have done more livestreaming with this rig and BF4 gets about 50-60FPS when streaming(might need to tweak some settings on that) Anyone had experience overclocking this FX 6300? I want to see how much I can get with air cooling.

Hi there, I am relatively new to the Linus Tech Tips forum but I have a build I would like to hear some thoughts about. After I built my own PC last year and my sister's laptop is on its way out I thought I would put together a PC for her. She is a costume designer/creator who doesn't play games that much (other than Age of Empires or Mythology during small LANs, so an APU will do) She will need to use Photoshop and other Adobe applications. So I wanted to bring her back from the dark-side (Macbook Pro) with a decent but in-expensive PC that is more 'carry sized' than my C70. I have found a group of components that I thought would be suitable for her needs, if there is anything I shouldn't bother with here or something I have forgotten and/or compatibility problems, leave a comment and I will consider your advice. PS I have been struggling to decide whether it is worth putting a fan controller in the 5.25" drive bay for better silence and getting an external DVD Player as I am not sure whether the motherboard supports 3 fans. With the 5.25 bay occupied would plan to have: 1x 200mm Front (Intake), 1x 120mm Rear with Rad (Exhaust), 1x 120mm Top Rear (Exhaust). Okay guys should i do a build log or not, It wont be some fancy triple rad liquid cooled beast, it will have fairly decent specs, with a dark colour theme. maybe some basic mods in it but nothing to the heights of Metallic Acids or Ghosts logs, what do you guys think? Edit: This should probably be in New builds and planning... not general discussion, oh well.

I followed this guide to a T. I took the registry route. Third party software is not an option. Is it because I'm on Professional? Did Windows 7 get an update that broke this tutorial? Any help is appreciated. I noticed that the default background is actually in \directory\oobe and is called "background" and not "backgroundDefault" and is a Bitmap image that is over 2MB. Yet the guide says the guidelines are 256KB, JPG, and a different name. *confused* Thanks, Vitalius

My 600T used to be the Silver Edition, but the color was starting to get pretty boring. I decided that it was time for a fresh coat of paint. Since I'm a big Ferrari fan, I wanted to do give the case a Ferrari 'tint'. My favorite Ferrari color is called "Abu Dhabi Blue", so I wanted to paint the case in that very color. Here's what the color looks like on an actual 458: After searching numerous DIY stores for a few weeks, I managed to find a metallic blue that looked very simular, and I painted the case. Here are the results: (Sorry for the mess  ) This was my first time ever 'modding' case, but I think it turned out pretty good What do you guys think?

Hi, I've already post in the planning forum and didn't add anything about watercooling in the subject. So I wanted to post a link in this forum to that post so I could make sure I can get opinions from watercooling veterans as well. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/78394-niftymists-plans-and-questions/#entry1075703 Thank you ~Dylan **If an admin feels it is necessary, please move my planning post to the watercooling forum.**
