Hello all Am in the lookout for a new lightweight laptop (key ingredient), will be used for Cloud, Office, web dev and possibly 2 simultaneous instances of Virtual PC machines (with help of a NAS for the actual images) so no actual storage is necessary so here's what am looking for: Starting of at the most important spec: Lightweight Backlit keyboard 256GB SSD minimum 8GB minimum i5 U Processor 8th gen minimum (quad core) ~$1200 Does the spec sound fit for purpose or am I out of my depth? I've been looking at XPS's and Asus Zenbooks, but there are sooo many models and XPS13s seem to have disappointing reviews with performance and bezel issues, while XPS15's are out of my budget (at the moment). Asuses(???!) look great but they don't have backlit keyboards? like seriously?!! Inputs are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys Monty

Hi! At first, sory for my English. I want to buy a relatively light laptop, less than 2 kg if it is possible. I want a fullHD display, a full keyboard (but it isn't necessary). It is good, if it can handle some games, like WoT, or CSGO, but it isn't a priority, I mean I don't need a 1060, maximum a 1050. It is good if it has a HQ series i5 or i7 processor. I need 8 GB of ram at least. I searched after it and most of the lighter laptops has a U processor, and I would like to a HQ one, but I don't know if it is possible. Thanks for helping me out! ??

Hey guys! I'm starting school soon and i need some recommendations for a lightweight gaming laptop. Here are some games that i play, starting from the ones i play the most: 1) Dota 2 2) CSGO I tend to fleet around AAA titles to complete their storyline. Specs that i think i need: weigh less than 2.4kg (5.2 pounds) 15" screen 1080p 60fps on medium/high settings playing AAA titles nvme drive (i need it to be snappy) all in all, portability is the priority here, lighter is better my budget is around SGD$2500 or about USD$1900 i'm currently using an asus k551lb gt840m laptop. should i get a desktop instead?

Hey there! I am searching for a good laptop as a student: It should be rather lightweight Quite cheap (max 500$; 300-400 would be perfect) 5 hours of battery or more SSD storage! (or SSD upgradable; 128GB Storage would already be enough) Not too shabby performance (dual core/i3 is also okay) Will not be used for hardcore gaming (But maybe a decent onboard graphics or low graphiccard) 14 inch Thanks for your help!

I'm looking for a new laptop - the only things it will be used for are web browsing and Microsoft office applications. When i say 'cheapest and thinnest' - I'm on a budget, but am looking for something lightweight with reasonable battery life. To be honest - anything better than my current Dell Latitude E6520. It's super powerful with an i7 and dedicated graphics - but it's getting quite old now and the battery only lasts 30 minutes (I replaced it recently too) As I said - specs can be as shoddy as u like (Although an ssd would be great). I'm just looking for something small, portable and non-annoying. Needs windows tho Thanks guys

Hello everyone! I have a little question: What is (in your opinion) the most lightweight Linux Distro that is suitable for developing (back-end, systems programming). To go more in detail: - A lightweight GUI (I don't want a terminal-only system, some for of GUI would be nice) - No standard applications that Ubuntu comes with that I really don't use (such as: Font Viewer, Galculator, 3 different file managers and so on) - A very small size (in the sense that the distro doesn't take up half of my hard drive) - Please, don't say Puppy Linux, for some reason, I really don't like it I'd like to apologize for not giving very clear guidelines. I think I'd like something such as Arch Linux, which is very customizable (I think), but I think Arch Linux is very weird to install, so I really don't like it. Thanks!

I've been asking some forums about this but I'm still confuse about what to choose. Hi. I've recently started looking for a gaming laptop and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I'm hoping for something under Rp 16.000.000,00 ($1200) and weight around 2 kg - 2.3ish kg. I want atleast a 950m (960m if i could), 8 GB ram is fine, 500 gb - 1 tb hdd (if I can get a ssd I would consider that), 15 inch 1080p screen, and maybe 3 hours battery life. I play games like csgo, overwatch, etc. I found a great deal for HP Omen in my place but if you have a better choice please tell. Thanks... (Sorry for bad english, I'm from Indonesia)

Hi, i'm looking for some sort of lightweight portable laptop to use at university (College if you're american). I have looked at macbook airs as they seem to be the thing to get but i'm not sure if the loss of RAM is worth it. im not concerned about gaming capability or any heavy work loads as i have a gaming tower PC to deal with that it will be primarily used for work, browsing, videos and music. I can spend up to £900 but anything under is a bonus and would be much prefered.

Did some googling but can't seem to find a good match for what I want, turning to teh forums for help! Haven't decide on budget, but should not exceed 1200 USD What I'm looking for: 1) a good CPU, the edgiest mainstream intel processors 2) not demanding much in the GPU department, will even consider intel integrated graphix but prefer a discreet GPU. 3) enough PCIe lanes for those sweet nvme ssds 4) lightweight, gotta carry it around often don't know much about pre-built systems or laptops, will appreciate if anyone can suggest something EDIT: btw, going to use it to do school works and play some games. Games like cities skylines, EUIV, dota, none of those AAA graphic monsters. EDIT 2: also, the design must be either plain or otherwise non-gamey-looking. Elaborate designs on most gaming laptops are ridiculous looking and not great to carry around in between classes

Hi, I'm looking for a laptop that will suit my needs. I've been looking around (here and there) for a while, but I don't keep up on hardware as much as I'm sure many people here do. I'm hoping for some help. What I want: -Something lightweight and thin, but durable. I travel for work and other reasons, so this is very important to me. -I'm a student, so I need to be able to do schoolwork on it. Most schoolwork doesn't require much, but I need the ability to run VMs on Virtualbox (probably no more than one at a time), and use GNS3. -Battery life is important to me (again, travel). -Screen size between 13-15". I don't want a 17" monster, but something bigger than a tablet would be good. What I don't want: -An optical drive, or anything else that adds unnecessary bulk that people these days don't use. Seriously, I don't remember the last time I used a CD/DVD for anything. -A gaming laptop. This machine isn't intended to be for gaming. It's for work, school, studying, research, and video chats/conferences. What would be preferable: -SSD -numberpad on the keyboard. -something that runs fairly cool. What doesn't matter: -The operating system, bloatware, or ridiculous certificates that comes with it. I'm probably going to use OpenSUSE as my primary OS, but I'm leaving my options open for things like Debian or CentOS (In other words, whatever comes with it will be wiped). Price range: -I dunno. I certainly don't want to spend $2000. In fact, I don't really want to spend over $1000, but I guess it just depends. I'd like to find something in the area of about $700-800 (USD - I'm American) or so, if that's possible. I'd like to not spend more than I need to spend. I'm still a student paying for tuition out of pocket. That's not cheap. Any ideas?

Hi all, I am a computer science masters graduate student and I am looking for an "accessory" laptop to do schoolwork on as well as run basic pen testing and the sort. Battery life is a huge consideration for me, and I want at least a 12" screen on whatever device. Of course, power is a big consideration so bottom line I want fast operation and long battery life. An Aircrack compatible wireless card would be cool too, but not a requirement. ANY HELP OR INPUT IS APPRECIATED

I have been looking into these laptops so far: XMG p505 pro: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Schenker-XMG-P505-PRO-Clevo-P651SG-Notebook-Review.132393.0.html Gigabyte P35X v3-CF1: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Gigabyte-P35X-v3-Notebook-Review.129889.0.html MSI GS70 2QE Stealth Pro: http://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-GS70-2QE16SR51-Notebook-Review.134025.0.html Been thinking about the Alienware 15 but that's a bit thicker I live in the UK and my budget is 1300 GBP (inc vat) which is roughly 1100 GBP without vat. Any suggestions? I need to make a decision soon-ish.

Hi everyone! I was looking for a thin, portable college laptop for my sister. I looked around the different topics here but most of them are looking for gamin related laptops, therefore I started this new one. So the laptop she is looking for is 13-14 inch, lightweight and thin (she is coming from an 13 inch Macbook Air, which is getting a bit outdated now). The Cpu and graphics are not that important, she only needs it for browsing, office and video watching. I think an i3, 4Gb of Ram an integrated graphics will do, what do you think? As I said she is looking for something similar to her MacBook, so I was looking in the Asus Zenbook series, but they are a little expensive. Do you know some similar devices? A refurbished one would be fine, too, but I am from Germany so buying from US / Canadian stores is not profitable. As I said in the description the price target is around 500 USD / 450 €. Thanks for your help in advance! Best regards from Germany!

Hi Guys, I'm going to college this coming fall and thus am faced with the plethora of choices for a new laptop on the market. But, I'll skip all the superfluous stuff and get right to the point: I'm looking for a laptop which has the number = priority 1) Long Battery life (Most important) 2) Lightweight (<5lbs) 2) Can play games decently well (I don't play too many graphics intensive games; I mainly play CS: GO, and LoL) 2) Runs cool (please no laptops which are super loud as well) 3) Fan sound 3) Not too showy of a laptop I was looking at the new Asus G501JW ROG which right now is my top choice but I just can't decide whether I want the gigabyte p34w v3 cf2 which has the gtx 970 in their but sacrifices battery life, the 4k display, and the glorious SSD that the Asus has. So far I am considering: Aorus: http://www.amazon.com/X3Plus-CF2-GTX870M-Haswell-i7-4860HQ-Computer/dp/B0106AMQW8/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1436558137&sr=8-4&keywords=aorus Asus: http://www.amazon.com/G501JW-DS71-15-6-Inch-GeForce-Discrete-Graphics/dp/B00UOYQ0YW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436558173&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+g501&pebp=1436558166873&perid=1KH4YQEW8YEAZ8GW6WWM Gigabyte: http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-P34WV3-CF2-14-Inch-Laptop/dp/B00RBDBNQ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436558190&sr=8-1&keywords=p34w&pebp=1436558184902&perid=167QQKF4PW3BNN3T2JWM Do you guys think a 4k display is worth it, and if it is should I spend extra to get a more expensive laptop with a gtx 970m so that I can run games on it? Or should i go with the 1080p laptop with the more powerful graphics even though I probably won't use its full potential because I don't play super graphics intensive games? Thank you so much for your time and reading about my problems >.< and helping me out =). P.S.: I do have a desktop but I probably won't bring it to college with me (i7 4770k; gtx 680 sli)

Okay so my girlfriend has a Fujitsu Lifebook laptop (I dont remember the model) anyways it has core i3 and 2GB RAM and 500GB HDD (Moving her to an 840evo soon) but I was looking at winreducer and wondering what it is like? she only does stuff like office and web browsing with Chrome, so what services could I remove to keep it running decently but lightweight, as her current 8.1 install is rather sluggish even after tune-ups. Thanks!

Looking for a cheap laptop for my mom for office related stuff like excel and word. Mass editing of document scans with Office Picture Manager. Being lightweight is the most important factor. Preferably around 3lbs. The cheaper the better, hopefully everything will be less than $500 USD. Preferably from Newegg or Amazon but not required. Probably going to replace the hdd in it with a ssd or sshd and wiping everything with fresh reinstalls of Windows and Office. Looking at laptops now and I'm likely to post some links as I find them. Edits: Looking at these two right now ASUS X200CA-DB01: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314135 Acer Aspire C710-10074G01ii: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231117 Not sure if the 1.5ghz celerons are powerful enough though. I have an extra 2GB stick of ram lying around for if I get the Asus notebook. Edits: Turns out 1.5ghz is enough. If anyone can find a cheaper solution, that would be nice. Otherwise, a vote would help sway my decision.

Hello everyone, I'm a Electrical Engineering student and I'm about to get my first job, but I need a new laptop for it. My old Asus N53SM 15.6" is getting old and slow (more then 3 years with her). I'm looking for a new laptop for office, AutoCAD, Matlab, Simulink, some light gaming, listening to music and watching movies. This is what I'm looking for: -Lightweight (The 6 pounds, 2.72 Kg, of my actual laptop is killing my back on the long walks I have to do) -Powerful (to handle all the programs mentioned before with ease) -Medium size (I don't want a laptop bigger than 15.6") -Durable (I want a Laptop that last, I have almost 3 years with this one and I know I can spend another year, but I really need a change) -That fit my budget (I only have US$ 800, If i convince my parents to lend me money I would get another US$ 800 for a total of US$ 1600, but I really don't want to spend more than US$ 1200) P.S: I've been looking at some laptops like Lenovo Y50: http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-15-6-Inch-Laptop-59425944-Black/dp/B00K6ZIMPE/ref=sr_1_10?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1406058496&sr=1-10&keywords=lenovo Asus X550LN-DB71: http://www.amazon.com/Asus-X550LN-DB71-ASUS-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B00JI9OHXU/ref=psdc1_t1_B00KN96V3S_B00JI9OHXU Asus N550JK-DS71T: http://www.amazon.com/N550JK-DS71T-Full-HD-Touchscreen-Laptop-Aluminum-Body/dp/B00IAA5BSS/ref=sr_1_13?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1406057994&sr=1-13&keywords=asus COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME FIND MORE OPTIONS AND HELP ME SELECT THE BEST ONE? Thanks in advance, cheers from Dominican Republic.

Anyone got an idea for what the "best" overall laptop currently out May be? When I say best I mean price vs performance and when I say overall I mean for play AND work. For 5 years now I've been pile driving my MacBook Pro into the ground and I think it's time to retire it for something new and better gaming friendly. I saw the new Asus rog laptop with the 4k screen coming out around September, but with no base price listed I don't want to get my hopes up for it. I've also seen the razor laptops. They look pretty decent. Anyone have any other ideas?
