I'm building a super cheap retro-ish miniPC for Windows 7, mainly aiming at co-op couch gaming, and trying to use used parts off of ebay wherever possible to do my part to reduce the net sum of e-waste floating around. I've already got a Core 2 Quad Q9400 coming in, an Intel DG45FC mini-ITX motherboard coming in, a low profile 95W cooler for LGA775 coming in, and I'll eventually be getting a new 300W flex-ATX PSU for it because used power supplies scare me. I want to eventually buy two 4GB DDR2 800MHz sticks for it, but for now I think I've got some 1GB or 2GB sticks laying around somewhere to get it up and running. I've also got a GT-1030 to pair with it for now, and all of this will be packed into a Velka 3 case I've been sitting on, with a 500GB SATA SSD. My issues/questions are these: 1. The motherboard in question only has a x1 PCIe slot, and the GT-1030 uses up to 4 PCIe lanes if what I've read is correct. It's already a little underpowered for 1080p gaming with that CPU, around a 13% GPU bottleneck, but will the x1 lane limitation make a meaningful dent in it's already modest performance? I have the appropriate riser coming in, I just don't know what to expect. 2. Given that x1 PCIe slot limitation, albeit with a x1-x16 riser, what low power ITX graphics card could I upgrade to later, considering it needs to be powered off of the slot, fit in the Velka 3, and have Windows 7 drivers? 3. How tolerant of lower RAM speeds are motherboards, generally? This one is specced for DDR2 800MHz and 677MHz, but would it hypothetically work with slower RAM if that's all I have on hand, as an interem configuration to get it up and running? Those questions and concerns aside, if anyone has any advice or ideas they'd like to share, please feel free.

I have an lga775 motherboard that i have upgraded from a q6600 to a q9650. I have been experimenting with the platform and learned that FSB overcklocking is the easiest way to increase performance on these systems. Started with SetFSB because it's very easy to use. When i set the FSB from the stock 333mhz to 400mhz the system seems to run perfectly stable but i noticed a weird issue. Some games seemed to run sped up. I confirmed my suspicions by comparing the windows stopwatch to my phones and it indeed ran 20% too fast (333mhz > 20% > 400mhz for your information). So my question is, any way to recalibrate the clock after changing fsb speed from software? Or can i OC in the bios only? CPU: Q9650 MB: ms-7502 (OEM board, but a modded bios with limited multiplier editing does exist) -
Hi guys, so my DFI P43-T34 just died and I decided to replace it and it became not that easy... My requirements are simple, I need: * LGA 775 motherboard * Support for Core 2 Quad Q9XXX CPUs * DDR3 * 4 RAM Slots supporting over 8GBs of RAM * PCie supporting overclocked GTX 660Ti and they are nowhere to be found... So if someone has a link to one in a reasonable price with shipping to the EU or has one lying around, please let me know :). -
I was scouring eBay for some stickers and I had come across a Xeon inside sticker, but it also curiously came with a LGA 771 socket to LGA 775 socket "adapter" in order to xeon mod it. Is this a real thing that people do? Is it a load of bunk or would that actually work? Listing I am talking about. There are plenty of listings like this, offering both a sticker badge and an adapter. Have an Gigabyte GA-G31M-SL2 LGA775 mobo in a secondary PC. Replaced an old celeron for a Xeon E5430 in it. On the old hard drive it booted win 7 with no problems. Formated the hard disk and installed a fresh win 10 on the drive with my main rig, moved the hard drive back expecting to boot, but it won't, swapped the cleron and it works. Will the microcodes and a flashed bios help?

I have been facing this problem since june 2019. It is really irritating and it's my main pc. Problem: 1)Mouse stop working in every 2 minutes. The cursor move without any problem, even the light under the mouse behave normally but I can't click on anything. I have to use Task Manager shortcut from keyboard to gain clicking of the mouse. This repeats every 2 minutes. 2)I can't close Chrome/brave tabs. there are more than 8 tabs are opened on them. They remain opened even after shutdown. I have to use firefox but I can't click on download option in firefox. 3) I can't access Telegram app, torrent app, wifi file sharing app. Mouse doesn't click anything on those application. Things I have done so far: 1) Updated windows 2)updated drivers 3) Tried different mouses 4)Clean installed windows 5)clean installed linux(I have to use terminal in linux instead of task manager to gain control) 6) Upgraded to 64 bit windows from 32 bit windows 7)Went to an expensive technician who did clean installed windows(he charged me 500 rupees/7 dollars) 8) Submitted problem to various pc related subreddit but none provided a solution. System info: Lga 775 g41 Intel motherboard Intel Pentium D E5700@3ghz 2gb ram ddr3@800mhz 500gb Seagate@7200rpm Windows 7 ultimate 64bit Thx for your time -
So I'm planning on making a retro build, and for the motherboard I'm thinking of using the above socket and chipset combo. Any recommendations for it? I wasn't into PCs when these ones were relevant, so I don't know anything myself, and I don't know of any websites that let you cross-reference sockets/chipsets (except for PCPP, which obviously doesn't have any motherboards this old in its database). The motherboard should be pretty high-end, or at least enthusiast tier. If somewhere there's actually a good way to check this information please do tell me Edit: forgot to mention, the motherboard should also have AGP and support IDE -
Is there a bios mod/update that would allow me to OC my q8400? Memory is adjustable, but the cpu is locked.

I have this old evga motherboard, that is socket lga775, and I was going to buy a better cpu for it. But researching compatability has confused me, since there are so many lga 775 cpu's, I can't find a straight answer. The motherboard is EVGA 122-ck-nf63 tr.

BLUF: I need to know whether whether it’s worth it to scrounge a second compatible CPU to fully optimize a dual-CPU mobo from yesteryear (read: it uses DDR2) in order to turn a donated board into a backup dc-/dhcp-server for a small non-profit, and (more importantly) what said scrounging will entail. Background: A local businessman donated a collection of retired towers from his office to my church; I’m the head of IT. One of the “gems” in the mix is an old HP XW6600 workstation; it currently has all working HW including 16GB DDR2, except the WinVista boot drive may be either corrupt or shot (oh darn). What it does not have is a second CPU to populate it’s second processor socket. The present config is a single Xeon E5405. Meanwhile, I have a plethora of Core2 Duo and Core2 Quad chips just laying around, thanks to this donation. Assuming I do get this machine refurbed back to full function, I’d plan to load it with Ubuntu Server 22.x and remote-manage it with the cockpit package. My question is (questions are?): Is it possible to load the second LGA771 socket with an LGA775 chip? (If so, what mods might be required?) Assuming LGA775 chips would fit and function in an LGA771 slot, would I be better off populating both sockets with Core2-something rather than mixing the two socket types? Would I ultimately be better off spending the paltry asking price from newegg/ebay for a second LGA771 xeon chip? (I know if budget weren’t an object, I’d be better off not bothering and get something that can handle 128G of DDR4/5, but this is a small non-profit outfit, so cheap/freebie options are awesome) Any tips/insights appreciated.

Hi guys I know it's old hardware but I'm trying to play some games, I have a 775 socket Board (Asus P5QL Pro) paired with a C2Q Q8400 2.66Ghz overclocked to 3.3Ghz and RX 570 4Gb. It runs a few titles like R6S, GTA V... but I want to upgrade a little bit. so I'm confused between Xeon X5460 or Xeon E5450 which one to buy? My motherboard has potentials to Overclock and I have a 400W PSU but I can replace it with a 500W if it's needed. So I hope you can help me to chose. btw The CPUs cost the same, around 20$ on Aliexpress and run on 775 sockets with a mod.

Hey guys, i got this old C2Q Q6600 system and the thermal paste was completely dried and the temps were like 98-100 celsius while the performance was down to 70%. so i took the heat sink off and cleaned it and the processor nicely, then i applied the new thermal paste. now the temps were in higher sixties, but the benchmarks are now giving me lower scores and fps in games is lower too. can someone tell why this happening and what can i do about this? any help would be appreciated....

So I have an old DFI DK LANPARTY X48-T2RS motherboard, (https://www.cnet.com/products/dfi-dk-x48-t2rs-lanparty-motherboard-atx-lga775-socket-x48/) And I found this cheap CPU on e-bay, which is surprisingly good for its price, 3.16GHz, 12MB Cache (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-X5460-3-16-GHz-Quad-Core-SLANP-EU80574KJ087N-Processor-w-Grease-/222327806610?hash=item33c3c51a92:g:sqwAAOSwMmBVxZWp) And I found out that you can mod a LGA 775 mobo that will be able to accept LGA 771 CPUs. Now I did some research and because of my motherboard being so old, I couldn't find any information of this specific CPU (Xeon X5460) working on this motherboard. I'm new into this modding method and I don't know much about it, it would be nice of any of you people on this site replying back with an answer, Will it work on my motherboard or not? Thanks! -
Finally my exams are over and I got a window of about 15 days till the next session; (10th grade, BTW) to upgrade my CPU from Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 to Intel core 2 Quad Q6600. (Because I can't in the next session due to studies) Now my problem is that the C2Q isn't listed as compatible in the HP technical guide, but uses the same socket (LGA 775) as the C2D. The technical guide lists other C2Q's like: Q8200, Q9400, Q9550 and Q9650. Should I buy the Q6600 Or look for alternatives? Can you suggest some alternatives? I do not plan on getting an updated motherboard anytime soon. I like LGA 775/771 and plan to stick with it until it is completely obsolete in another 5-10 years. Right now I'm running an Intel Xeon X5460 via BIOS mod and mod sticker. This is the first time I have exceeded 3GHz in any computer (my old i7 laptop had a turbo of 3.1GHz, turbo doesn't count). I know I can get "better for cheaper" but right now $200 for a motherboard/CPU combo is way out of range for me. I can front around $85 for a new CPU, not a problem. Please don't tell me to buy "updated" or "newer" parts. I'm looking for the absolute best processor my motherboard can support. It supports all Xeon CPUs that are not 1600mhz. So far my research has been inconclusive, and I am afraid that I have already reached the fastest CPU this board can handle without crapping its pants. I am getting two more 2GB sticks of unbuffered ECC memory because in another thread I concluded it's supported and is 20-40% cheaper than non ECC memory, for a total of 8GB. Any CPUs that aren't ridiculously overpriced that you guys would recommend?

I bought this desktop from a thrift store, a Del Inspiron 530 for $13 runs perfectly, it even came with a graphics card. I decided to slide in a wireless network card and an ATi Radeon HD 5570(originally an ATI Radeon HD 5450) I had laying around. It has a 3GB ddr2 (going to upgrade to 6GB), Dell 0RY007 LGA 775 motherboard P35/G33/G31 chipset, and a Intel Pentium E5200 @ 2.5GHz 45nm. So what I'm wondering is what's the best CPU I can slot in this thing so I can play games (tf2, CS-GO, Minecraft and other games like those). Sources tell me conflicting information and other motherboards allow different things I hear. From what I hear quad core is out the window (Open the door to let it back in if possible on this motherboard) I need something at least better than a Core 2 Duo E6600 (I would appreciate marginally better!) I hear the Core 2 Duo E6600 is good. Anyways thank you in advance for any replies ~Nathan

I have an ageing LGA775 motherboard with an X9650 @ 3.5 GHz, with DDR2 memory running at 1000 MHz. It's showing it's age and I'm of a mind to upgrade to a skylake processor. I use my PC for gaming mostly; I do use it quite heavily for software development and compiling, but I'm pretty admant on going for a consumer line of i5/i7 chips with LGA1151 chipset, rather than one of the Xeon solutions. So I would think maybe an i5-6600 or i7-6700K seems to be the consensus. My question is, given those options, what sort of gaming performance improvement can I expect, percent-wise, for games released in the past year, say? If somebody can point me to benchmarks, or provide some numbers to back-up their reasoning, that would be great; LGA775 doesn't get benchmarked much nowadays! Also worth mentioning I have a GTX1060 so I'm covered on the graphics side; this is just CPU/chipset upgrade. -
Hi! So recently my computer started sounding like shit. After cleaning the CPU the noise wasn't as loud, but still way to loud (for recording). So I went to Amazon and started looking for cheap LGA 775 coolers since I only have £20 right now. And I found this. If you have any better suggestions please tell me.

I'm currently trying something new with a second gaming computer build. I have an e5450 processor that I have modded to be compatible with the LGA775 motherboard socket despite this processor being an LGA771 socket processor. I have an old LGA775 but it is not a good motherboard. Everything is slow and old and my main problem is that it has only two slots for DDR2 ram. What I'm wondering is, are there any consumer PCs built with an LGA775 that support DDR3 1300mhz or more? All of these motherboards online are $75+ after shipping and I think it would be more fun and a better deal if I can look for a specific tower. Thanks -Carter

Hi there, i've just built a machine with a Gigabyte 775 board and a Xeon X5450. I have updated the BIOS to the lastest version with the CPU microcodes and it works perfectly fine. The problem is when i try to overclock, nothing works, even going from 3.0 ghz to 3.1 ghz will cause it to crash. After saving the settings to the CMOS and restarting the computer it powers on for about 5/10 seconds without posting, then it reboots again this time working normal but with all overclock settings gone to stock and telling me that a error has ocurred. Anyone has had simillar problems? It's my first time overclocking on this chips and I'm a bit lost. Any help would be appreciated
