I have an lga775 motherboard that i have upgraded from a q6600 to a q9650. I have been experimenting with the platform and learned that FSB overcklocking is the easiest way to increase performance on these systems. Started with SetFSB because it's very easy to use. When i set the FSB from the stock 333mhz to 400mhz the system seems to run perfectly stable but i noticed a weird issue. Some games seemed to run sped up. I confirmed my suspicions by comparing the windows stopwatch to my phones and it indeed ran 20% too fast (333mhz > 20% > 400mhz for your information). So my question is, any way to recalibrate the clock after changing fsb speed from software? Or can i OC in the bios only? CPU: Q9650 MB: ms-7502 (OEM board, but a modded bios with limited multiplier editing does exist)

BLUF: I need to know whether whether it’s worth it to scrounge a second compatible CPU to fully optimize a dual-CPU mobo from yesteryear (read: it uses DDR2) in order to turn a donated board into a backup dc-/dhcp-server for a small non-profit, and (more importantly) what said scrounging will entail. Background: A local businessman donated a collection of retired towers from his office to my church; I’m the head of IT. One of the “gems” in the mix is an old HP XW6600 workstation; it currently has all working HW including 16GB DDR2, except the WinVista boot drive may be either corrupt or shot (oh darn). What it does not have is a second CPU to populate it’s second processor socket. The present config is a single Xeon E5405. Meanwhile, I have a plethora of Core2 Duo and Core2 Quad chips just laying around, thanks to this donation. Assuming I do get this machine refurbed back to full function, I’d plan to load it with Ubuntu Server 22.x and remote-manage it with the cockpit package. My question is (questions are?): Is it possible to load the second LGA771 socket with an LGA775 chip? (If so, what mods might be required?) Assuming LGA775 chips would fit and function in an LGA771 slot, would I be better off populating both sockets with Core2-something rather than mixing the two socket types? Would I ultimately be better off spending the paltry asking price from newegg/ebay for a second LGA771 xeon chip? (I know if budget weren’t an object, I’d be better off not bothering and get something that can handle 128G of DDR4/5, but this is a small non-profit outfit, so cheap/freebie options are awesome) Any tips/insights appreciated.

I have been facing this problem since june 2019. It is really irritating and it's my main pc. Problem: 1)Mouse stop working in every 2 minutes. The cursor move without any problem, even the light under the mouse behave normally but I can't click on anything. I have to use Task Manager shortcut from keyboard to gain clicking of the mouse. This repeats every 2 minutes. 2)I can't close Chrome/brave tabs. there are more than 8 tabs are opened on them. They remain opened even after shutdown. I have to use firefox but I can't click on download option in firefox. 3) I can't access Telegram app, torrent app, wifi file sharing app. Mouse doesn't click anything on those application. Things I have done so far: 1) Updated windows 2)updated drivers 3) Tried different mouses 4)Clean installed windows 5)clean installed linux(I have to use terminal in linux instead of task manager to gain control) 6) Upgraded to 64 bit windows from 32 bit windows 7)Went to an expensive technician who did clean installed windows(he charged me 500 rupees/7 dollars) 8) Submitted problem to various pc related subreddit but none provided a solution. System info: Lga 775 g41 Intel motherboard Intel Pentium D E5700@3ghz 2gb ram ddr3@800mhz 500gb Seagate@7200rpm Windows 7 ultimate 64bit Thx for your time

Hi guys, so my DFI P43-T34 just died and I decided to replace it and it became not that easy... My requirements are simple, I need: * LGA 775 motherboard * Support for Core 2 Quad Q9XXX CPUs * DDR3 * 4 RAM Slots supporting over 8GBs of RAM * PCie supporting overclocked GTX 660Ti and they are nowhere to be found... So if someone has a link to one in a reasonable price with shipping to the EU or has one lying around, please let me know :).

I was scouring eBay for some stickers and I had come across a Xeon inside sticker, but it also curiously came with a LGA 771 socket to LGA 775 socket "adapter" in order to xeon mod it. Is this a real thing that people do? Is it a load of bunk or would that actually work? Listing I am talking about. There are plenty of listings like this, offering both a sticker badge and an adapter. Seems super strange. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-LGA-771-to-775-Adapters-for-Xeon-Mod-with-one-Intel-Xeon-Inside-sticker/331590180430?hash=item4d34509e4e:g:BN0AAOSw9N1ViuGs

Have an Gigabyte GA-G31M-SL2 LGA775 mobo in a secondary PC. Replaced an old celeron for a Xeon E5430 in it. On the old hard drive it booted win 7 with no problems. Formated the hard disk and installed a fresh win 10 on the drive with my main rig, moved the hard drive back expecting to boot, but it won't, swapped the cleron and it works. Will the microcodes and a flashed bios help?

Is there a bios mod/update that would allow me to OC my q8400? Memory is adjustable, but the cpu is locked.

So I'm planning on making a retro build, and for the motherboard I'm thinking of using the above socket and chipset combo. Any recommendations for it? I wasn't into PCs when these ones were relevant, so I don't know anything myself, and I don't know of any websites that let you cross-reference sockets/chipsets (except for PCPP, which obviously doesn't have any motherboards this old in its database). The motherboard should be pretty high-end, or at least enthusiast tier. If somewhere there's actually a good way to check this information please do tell me Edit: forgot to mention, the motherboard should also have AGP and support IDE

In Linus's last video he said their next project would be "building a 10 year old PC" and seeing how it holds up today. This build is the result of me collecting parts from that era and finally buying an overclocking motherboard. Here are the specs: Motherboard: GA-EP45-UD3L (rev. 1.0) (70 CAD including shipping, came with a E7500 C2D, Intel stock cooler, and 4gb kit of OCZ PC8500 DDR2 ram) Ram: 8gb 4x2gb of Crucial 800mhz sticks (was maybe 15 to 20 dollars per stick) CPU: Q9300 currently at approximately 3.4ghz (was around 12 dollars on ebay) Cooler: Thermaltake Ultra Extreme with a Scythe Slip Stream 120mm fan (already owned) SSD: 128gb Goldenfir SSD I got from Aliexpress (less than 20 CAD) GPU: Asus 7870 Ghz Edition (already owned) PSU: Kratos M1-600W that was cheap on sale(20 to 30 dollars) Case: no case yet I also have a 500gb HDD and a DVD drive that I salvaged from an old thinkcenter (free) and a Lexar 240gb SSD that I picked up on sale from Canada Computers a while back. Additionally, I also have a Q6600 that I bought for 10 dollars off ebay, I ordered an E8400 C2D for 9.99 CAD, and a Q9500 that was 20 USD. So I can swap out the CPU's to overclock and see how they perform. I will post overclocking screenshots in a subsequent post.

Hey Guys, Hope everyone is doing fine. I have a computer with gigabyte GA-945GZM-S2 lga 775 motherboard with Core 2 duo E6700 with intel stock cooler, which works fine 3 gb ram, but as the cpu is not greatly suitable for everyday tasks i decided to upgrade my CPU to Core 2 quad 9400 i checked motherboard compatibility it is compatible, but when i swapped the CPU the pc started running, all fans running however the screen on monitor is stuck at motherboard post screen, my keyboard and mouse are not working, cannot boot into BIOS i initially thought the issue must be with the ram but they seems to work fine with my old cpu. Did i buy a faulty CPU?? i bought it online with no return policy. I am literally stuck with this situation any help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks and regards,

Hey guys, i got this old C2Q Q6600 system and the thermal paste was completely dried and the temps were like 98-100 celsius while the performance was down to 70%. so i took the heat sink off and cleaned it and the processor nicely, then i applied the new thermal paste. now the temps were in higher sixties, but the benchmarks are now giving me lower scores and fps in games is lower too. can someone tell why this happening and what can i do about this? any help would be appreciated....

Hi guys I know it's old hardware but I'm trying to play some games, I have a 775 socket Board (Asus P5QL Pro) paired with a C2Q Q8400 2.66Ghz overclocked to 3.3Ghz and RX 570 4Gb. It runs a few titles like R6S, GTA V... but I want to upgrade a little bit. so I'm confused between Xeon X5460 or Xeon E5450 which one to buy? My motherboard has potentials to Overclock and I have a 400W PSU but I can replace it with a 500W if it's needed. So I hope you can help me to chose. btw The CPUs cost the same, around 20$ on Aliexpress and run on 775 sockets with a mod.

A couple of days ago I found this thing at work. And then it turned out that this was one of my colleagues who kept it for some reason not at home, but in a drawer in our office. It looks beautiful, i love that old school PC overclocking vibe. But owner said, that he put it away because he was not very savvy at PC building at a time, so he left one excess mobo standoff while he was installing new motherboard, and it shorted something on it. Also owner told me, that socket may be was reballed(resoldered) or replaced, he bought this mobo in that condition. Also owner told me, that socket may be was reballed(resoldered) or replaced, he bought ith as is. I not seeing any component damage from a short on pcb, but there is clearly marks of soldering work on back side of a socket. The question arises as to how valuable this antiques is for history and whether it makes sense to deal with its diagnosis and possible repairs.

Issues installing Ubuntu Server 19.04 onto a Q6600 system
elfensky posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I recently got my hands on an old desktop with an intel Q6600 (LGA775 socket, still has a North Bridge) that runs W7Ultimate and am now trying to get Ubuntu Server 19.04 installed onto it. Anyway, when I select the USB stick from the boot menu, it shows a purple ubuntu screen but then goes to a black screen and says: My only previous experiece booting Ubuntu was running the desktop version off a usb stick on laptops, and that worked flawlessly, so I really have no idea what I have to do to try and debug it. Some googling resulted in me trying to disable ACPI (link) using (link), but holding shift during the boot-up does nothing, and it goes to the same black error screen you see above. I've also tried disabling ACPI2.0 support in BIOS but that netted no changes. My hardware: mobo - Asus P5Q-VM cpu - Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad ram - 2x DDR2 2GB of some corsair xms2 disk - SanDisk 120gb SSD-

Hello guys, I need some help with my cpu because of the bottleneck my gpu gave! Here's my specs GPU: RX 560 4GB (Biostar) CPU: Intel core 2 quad q8400 2.66mhz RAM: 6GB (Next week 8GB since I ordered extra 4GB DDR2) My GPU is not fully giving its potential since my cpu is so slow and the workload for my cpu is almost 100% at all times while my gpu 50 - 60% sometimes 10% I'm having hard time playing PUBG Lite (45-30 fps) GTA V (45-50 fps) with stuttering, Dota2 with high settings still feels laggy (60 - 45 fps) I'm pretty sure it's a big bottleneck for my cpu since it's slow, and I decided to buy a Xeon E5450 3.0mhz This Xeon is originally a LGA 711 and already modded to fit inside LGA 775 which is my motherboard socket. I need help with this! my motherboard chipset is a nForce 730i I don't have money to buy a new motherboard and a new i5 or i7 cpu's and I can only afford a Xeon processor since it's cheap and I'm really poor. Will this Xeon E5450 work on my motherboard chipset? because I saw a lot of videos they use a Xeon LGA 711 to LGA 775 Also I'm confused about the SLBBM and SLANQ type. Please guys help me out, I'm almost out of money I spended it on my GPU and my friends bought me GTA V and Battlefield 1 just to play with them. I feel bad about myself right now. Here's my discord ID Suba#3476 Here's the link for the Xeon E5450 Item on lazada https://www.lazada.com.ph/products/intel-xeon-e5450-cpu-intel-e5450-processor-quad-core-4-core-30mhz-level2-12m-work-on-lga-775-motherboard-i339434448-s760190277.html?spm=a2o4l.searchlist.list.6.6e37a8a9y3QUqC&search=1

I know that Windows 10 has tons of stuff that perpetually runs in the background, taking up unnecessary amounts of ram and causes random cpu usage spikes. Those are things that really are negligible on modern hardware, such as the Ryzen 7 2700X with 16GB of 3000mhz ram that's its paired with in my main rig but can be detrimental to older hardware that isn't as capable but still very usable, depending on the use case that is. I doubt anyone's still using a core 2 quad to render videos Anyways, my main question is whether its worth going through the trouble of debloating windows 10 to limit how much it takes system resources or if its just better to continue to use windows 7 on older hardware and optimize that. I don't think DX12 will really give any significant performance gains over DX11, especially since the cpu's performance will be the primary limiting factor before the gpu starts becoming an issue. This is just a spare build that'll mainly be used for older games that don't work or have issues on windows 10. This is strange, I have a GA-P43T-ES3G that works with a E5700 CPU but won’t post with a Q8300 or even a E8500... the machine turns on, power fan, graphics card fan and hard drives spins, and the CPU fan spins (after lagging behind a little bit), then nothing, it cut itself off and restarts... The screen doesn’t even wake up... Swapping the Q8300 out with a previously known good E8500 CPU changes nothing. However, it will cooperate with a E5700 CPU some how... I already tried to update the BIOS, clear the CMOS... is there anything else I can try to do?? (Eg. pin oxidized/dirty?) Thanks! PS: I do know both CPU is on a different stepping compared to E5700... but the mobo should support it after bios A2... I am on A8 now...

My old Lenovo desktop PC, which intrigued me now, which I found out is an Ideapad K200, needs to be upgraded to make it survive another 10 years. It's built on an LGA 775 socket (which is the main reason I'm asking questions here), with an Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 CPU @ 2.2 GHz, 2GB DDR2 RAM, Nvidia Geforce 210. I have attached a CPU-Z datasheet which tells its specifications in detail. I have NEVER ever built a PC till now. So, there's no experience. But I do know that upgrading to an SSD will bump my performance. There are some basic questions that I need to ask. My PC tells me that it's a 32-bit PC but checking on Intel's website it tells me it has a 64-bit instruction set. So what is it? Can I possibly upgrade to a more powerful chip on the same mobo? Is there any available-in-market, top-notch processor (like a Xeon) that I can install? (My own research narrowed down the options though). I can't find what's compatible with my motherboard. Can I install more RAM (or Possibly DDR3) if I upgrade to a 64-bit processor? Power supply needed for the upgrade. OR You want to tell me that I should scrap the system and build a new one. In that case, it will be a budget build. $200-$250 budget. A nice mobo-CPU-cooler-PowerSupply combination suggestion will be needed. Thank you for your time! USER-PC.txt

Hey Guys, So inspired by scrapyard wars i planned on building a pc for gaming with used parts. i am so far successful i would say. i spent so far around 50$ and got a gigabyte G41m motherboard which has ddr3 ram slots and the core 2 duo e8400.. install my old ram which i had and a old gt710.. i still have money that i can spend .. around 100$ running on a old crt moniter which is a 720p resolution.. will be getting a 1080p moniter down the line.. how can i improve my setup .. better quad core than q6600? better graphics card for 1080p gaming...

I am just wondering if anyone has ever overclocked a CPU on this board before and if there is more than just a .15 increase. As of right now I have overclocked my xeon x5460 from 3.16ghz to 3.31ghz but I feel as though I can overclock it more I just don't know what I am doing. I looked for threads and other forums but nothing with this specific board and especially not with xeons. My specs are as follows: CPU: Xeon x5460 GPU: GTX 970 4GB RAM: 2 x 4GB G.SKILL DDR2 800 PSU: 700B EVGA Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Thank you so much, I understand that this is an old board and I super old CPU but I just want to push it to the limit.

Im currently building the ultimate LGA 775 PC, but after quite a bit of research I ask myself (and LTT forums) do any 4GB, 1066MHz DDR2 RAM sticks exist? I have been looking for almost an hour on ebay and other sites and i cant seem to find anything other than ultra inflated prices for 667 MHz RAM combos I guess to try to lure potential noob ddr3/ddr4 users to buy these for "cheaper", but no luck finding a single 4GB 1066MHz DDR2 stick. Also no luck looking at websites for info, so I think I need help from some of you LGA 775 gurus. Thanks in advance
