Hello, I thinking of doing an upgrade to my computer. The part that I want to upgrade is the CPU. I currently have a I5-6600k and I want to up grade to I7-7700. The one question a have is to do with the socket. The I5 (my current one) is a LGA1151 but the I7 (the one want to upgrade to) is a FCLGA1151. I'm not sure if it the same socket or if its different. And another quick thing i do you think this is a good upgrade for me. I play a lot of simulation games (ETS2,ATS,BeamNG,etc) Sgm613

I just recently upgraded my set up. I got an i3 9100f since it is a great value and highly rated, and to match that, a Z170A Gaming pro carbon because it also has lga 1151. I also had to upgrade ram to be ddr4 for the new motherboard so I got 8gbOLOy Dimm ddr4 3000 MHz, not brand name, but I believe it had decent reviews on amazon and I am pretty sure it is properly installed in slot 2. Any how, the indicator light says that there is an issue reading CPU. I zip tied my fan to it, since there are motherboard capacitors in the way of the bracket for the fan. I am almost out of zipties so I'd prefer this be resolved without dismounting my fan, if possible. I also upgraded my case and added a couple drives, but I doubt they are involved. Anyhow, I boot it up and all of my rgb turns on and the fans start, so it runs, but it must be failing POST because the monitor does absolutely nothing. I haven't cleared CMOS yet and if you think it is a very possible fix, I will do so gladly, but there is stuff in the way right now. Also, I have a 500w PSU. EDIT: I have decided I want to update the processor unless you can find a relatively cheap motherboard with a built in usb c slot like this one and four ddr4 slots that can at least kind of support 3000 MHz. I live in the USA

I recently got some 12v 4-pin rgb led strips, and everything was all fine and dandy with them on my motherboard until the pins shorted and blew the circuits for them. My MSI mpg gaming pro carbon has 2 jrgb headers, one is now completely useless, the other displays no blue and is greenwashed. any suggestions on a 100-250$ motherboard I should get as a replacement? atx form factor, wifi is optional, m.2 slot not needed but could be nice in the future, 2+ SATA port, 8pin cpu, 24pin motherboard, pciegen4, etc im still new to specking out computer parts, so I’d like some help please and thank you!

I've been putting some time into looking for some different ways to upgrade my current system, ive made posts here before and i have got a path straight for me but one question that has been boggling my mind lately is that my current Motherboard(MSI Z170A PC mate) might be able to support a CPU that results in less bottleneck than my current one does. My current setup consists of: MSI Z170a PC mate. Intel i5-6500 some 8gb corsair vengence ram (forgot ram speed at point of writing this.) Gigabyte RTX 2060 OC 6GB corsair cs450m PSU I purchased the RTX 2060 a while back knowing about the bottlenecking but it was the first purchase in a full upgrade. Now that i am able to buy the rest i was thinking about going with a Ryzen setup possibly 3600/2700x. But the CPU recommended from intel is the i7-8700k to minimize bottleneck, the problem is that i don't really know if my current motherboard will support the architect of the i7-8700k. (My current cpu and the 8700k are both LGA1151 socketed.)

Hi! I was just browsing and i saw this: https://www.asus.com/sa-en/Motherboards/H170-PLUS-D3/ and this: https://www.asus.com/sa-en/Motherboards/B150-PLUS-D3/ Are those typos or something? Can you actually pair 6th gen Intel processors with DDR3 Ram? Thanks for your attention!

Hi, I've gotten a really good deal on a Fujitsu D3410-B11, though it can (strangely enough) only take 6th Gen chips, because there is no BIOS update with the added microcode for 7th Gen chips. I wanted to flash a BIOS of a D3410-B2, which is exactly the same board, everything is literally the same. Though I couldn't get it to flash. I'm not that experienced in force flashing something, I only tried FreeDOS and renaming some things. Fujitsu's update packs either consist of a DeskFlash.exe file, or, for Booting over FreeDos, a DosFlash.bat, a EfiFlash.exe and a .upd file. At least the .bat file takes it's data from the .upd file. the .exe says there is a file missing and it can't continue, I think it's searching a File in the already flashed BIOS to confirm the motherboard revision/model it, of course, can't find. Could someone please help me out with this? Thanks

Hello. I posted on here about 4 months ago about wanting to upgrade a prebuilt I got off the company iron side. I liked the advice I received and this last week decided to go through with the plan to upgrade. I went to Newegg and ordered an i5 9600k for a good deal and an msi z370 a pro. The parts arrived yesterday and I started putting things together. I get it all ready and it doesn’t boot. I follow the guide on this form pinned at the top, still doesn’t boot. Guide says if it still doesn’t it’s probably the motherboard. So I go pickup a new motherboard, I got the gigabyte gaming x lga1151 and go home. Plug everything in add cooler the whole nine yards and when I plug it in the leds on the back of the motherboard turn on but it still won’t boot. The only thing I haven’t changed yet is the graphics card and proccesor which leads me to believe Newegg sent me a dead proccesor... Here is a PCpartpicker list of my specs, any help would be greatly appreciated. Hello guys, I"m looking to upgrade my computer and decided to go with Intel Core i7 8700k, with a Samsung 960 Pro M.2 512GB SSD. And I want to try with the Intel Optane Memory, and if I want to go with this, I'll need a motherboard that supports x2 M.2 nvme PCIE slot. Do you guys have any recommendations? I'm having a hard time looking to search one as additional requirement is to have at least 4 USB 3.0 ports. I"m open to any prices, as my budget is pretty good. Thanks!

So have a cheap motherboard form Asrock with a Intel i3 4130 CPU but i did not have a CPU cooler for intel LGA1150 / LGA1151 But i did have the AMD Wraith prism cooler that came in the box with my Ryzen 7 2700X, but that is for AM4 Sooo F*** thack i will just print an adapter for the motherboard to accept the AM4 cooler on the intel socket motherboard and i dont think that the stock AMD cooler should have any problems in keeping the I3 4130 cool. Printed in PLA (And yes i know ABS or PETG would have been better) but kinda just gonna YOLO it at the moment at see if it works. The print file i used is this one from thingiverse. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4361016 But the designer of the file did not set the correct dimensions for the object so have to scale it up to get it to the right size. So print settings for the item in Repetier Host 0.2mm resolution 0.4mm nozzel 100% infill Scale by 9.75 to get it to the correct size. The adapter is mounted with small screws through the adapter and secured with plastic washers and self locking nuts on the back of the board. Anyway, not yet sure how its gonna hold up, dont have any ram to test it with, but if it works.... YAY!! and i not well POOP!!

Hey Guys, I Have A Quick Question If You Don't Mind Helping Me. I Have An HP 580-023w. It Has The Stock Motherboard With The LGA1151 Socket That Is Kind Of Tough To Get Out. So My Question Is: If I Bought Something Like A MasterAir G200P Or Some Non-Stock Cooler For That Socket, Would I Have To Take Out The Motherboard And Replace The Back Plate? Or Could I Save The Trouble And Screw It Into The One Already On It?

Hey Guys, I Just Have A Quick Question. I Have A Stock CPU Fan That Came With A Prebuilt (Cooler In Picture). It Works Extremely Well But I Wanna Do A Corsair Build When I Switch My PC Into A Bigger Case. Could I Just Swap The Fan For An Aftermarket 92mm Fan?

so I bought a new motherboard and a few of the pins are bent (or ones missing I cant really tell). I noticed it when I removed the cover and getting ready to seat the CPU. Am I screwed? or should I try and take it back to the pace of purchase and get a new one? or attempt to fix it myself. I have a picture of it i can take a few more if needed. Its in the lower right hand of the socket (near the latch/holder). The motherboard I have is a ASUS ROG Maximus hero x (wifi ac). Any help is great.

Back in 2011 I built my desktop and now I want upgrade to an 8700k. Is there anyway I can keep using my H100 even though I don't have the Intel mounting hardware anymore?

I recently upgraded from ddr3 to ddr4 and with that my computer has become unresponsive it doesn't sleep, restart, apps don't close or open after I've been using it and when I look in task manager it says that my cpu which is a I5-6600k not overclocked and I look through it and every app is at 0% usage, this problem only happened after I went to ddr4 the hour before it was fast and responsive and I have to use 1 stick of ram because 3 slots don't work and it won't post with 2 stick and I've tested both sticks, but I had to use one stick when I was using ddr3 because the other ram slots messed up. Edit: any help is appreciated

Hello, a friend of mine wants to build a new PC, he already has a GTX 1050 ti and an M.2 SSD, but he wants to upgrade his LGA 1155 PC to LGA 1151, so I need a CPU that won't bottleneck the 1050 ti, and a motherboard with M.2 slots, a 2x4GB DDR4 kit would appreciated. (btw, he inexplicably hates AMD, so that's out of the question, before you even ask.) The budget is 1000$ USD. (and preferably under)

looking to upgrade my 6700k to help out on performance in games wondering if I should get the 7700k or get a whole new motherboard and CPU or just get the CPU that will work on the motherboard I own?

So my friend just built a beast with ryzen 7 2700x, and obviously used an aio. As you know 2700x's stock cooler, wraith prism, is a beast of coolers. So as he used an aio, I was planning to use his cooler instead of my stock Intel cooler. But as it is an am4 cooler, it doesn't fit on my lga1151 motherboard. Is there any way I can fit it?

I have found the smallest mobo with an LGA1151! it's got a 3.5in form factor! The distributor: http://www.bsicomputer.com/products/capa500-15817 Product page: http://us.axiomtek.com/Default.aspx?MenuId=Products&FunctionId=ProductView&ItemId=23368&upcat=270 It's way too much money for me to buy, but I'd love to see LMG play with it! ?

Which LGA1151 Z370 motherboard should I get? I'm using a Intel i7 8700k processor and the board should be under about $150. Also that cpu says it uses memory speeds of 2666 so does that have to be the same as the motherboard? This pc will be used for gaming and i do not need to overclock. I've been looking around and these (Asus and MSI) motherboards look good: MSI - Z370 GAMING M5 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Asus - Prime Z370-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard Which motherboard should i get? If you know of a better one I am open to suggestions! Thanks!

Hi, making a new build, just need some suggestions, does it fit overall thx. Processor: i3 8100 (coffe lake), might be i5 8400 if I find one affordable. https://www.amazon.com/Intel-BX80684I58600K-Core-i5-8600K-Processor/dp/B0759FTRZL/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1514991101&sr=1-3&keywords=i5&th=1 Graphics card: gigabyte geforce gtx 1060 6gb g1 gaming https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N0P24HI/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 OR https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-Dual-fan-Gaming-Graphics-DUAL-GTX1060-O6G/dp/B01JHQT1SE/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1514997690&sr=1-2&keywords=asus+1060 I'm thinking about going the gigabyte one, let me know what you think. Going to OC it, keep it moderate. since the gigaybte one has 8 pins, thats a + Motherboard: https://www.amazon.com/MSI-Z370-GAMING-PLUS-Motherboard/dp/B075GSVHGP/ref=pd_sim_147_4?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=DY1GZPMBZG1YAAFGFS0T&th=1 found the most cheapest z370 lol. RAM: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0123ZBPDA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 (yes I know 8gb is not good enough, but im on budget rn and will upgrade), Is 3000 enough with the build or do you prefer 3200? Don't have enough $ for 3200. PSU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01B72W0A2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 Case: (I want to know if all that will fit in the case) http://www.coolermaster.com/case/mid-tower/cm-690/ , yes i know it's old, but I don't really care about aesthetics, just performance mostly. Just let me know what you think, I'm not a super crazy expert in computers, but I have some knowledge. Will the gpu fit in the case? If you have anything in mind, you think that'll be better or something let me know what you think. Keep in mind im on a budget! Maybe around 720$, I can add a bit more for the i5. Going to use the PC JUST for gaming, don't care about the PC looks, aesthetics, if it's rgb or things like that, don't care about the color scheme, just straight performance. Should I switch to 7th gen processors? (Because it's cheaper). Let me know! Thanks! ((Also, I know it's off topic but I need to ask, I'm worried about amazon VAT or how do you call it, will I have to pay 20% more off the whole build (so like 144$) because of the VAT? First time ordering from amazon don't know how it works lol. You know what I mean, sorry if i didn't explain myself very well.))

Good day, So, when I first built my PC, I didn't consider overclocking, and it was dumb. Because now, my CPU is my main bottleneck in any demanding game (Xcom2, Mass Effect Andromeda, and heavily modded Skyrim being the biggest culprits). I currently have an Intel i5-6500 Skylake chip, and am considering buying a new processor and then selling my old processor. Research indicates I could get at least a decent deal for it. Now, for upgrade options. I'm not quite ready to buy a new motherboard yet (currently running a Gigabyte GA-Z170XP LGA 1151), so I want to know what you all would recommend for the best upgrade option for a chip that would be compatible with my current board. Most of what I do with this PC produces a single-threaded workload, so I would want to focus on that, along with future overclocking. I did pick up a CM Hyper 212 over Black Friday, so I should have better thermals than the stock heatsink. I was thinking of the i7-7700k, but wanted to get the thoughts of this group first. Thanks!

Hi guys, i have a plan to build a gaming PC with i5 6500 and 2x RX480. is there any H or B chipset motherboard that support Crossfire ? because maybe it's pointless to use Z chipset motherboard without K processor. i have $150 for this motherboard. Thank you
