  1. Creating new gaming build. I have to use some type of adapter for wifi, I don't have access to a wired connection. What is my best bet if I want good ping and connection. I am aware that powerline may be a good alternative, however I won't be able to implement that either. Thank You
  2. Ive recently upgraded from my crappy usb 2.0 wifi adapter to the TP-link archer t6e. Before, I was getting a ping of around 200 in gaming. With my archer t6e, I am now getting 240 in game. I have windows on performance mode, the drivers are installed, and yet I'm getting a worse ping. The most interesting thing I found was when I was running speed tests, both my computers download/upload speed and ping started improving without bounds, and as soon as it was over slowed the hell down again. It's like it's putting on a show to demonstrate. This is nothing to do with my router or ISP because when I game on my laptop on the same 5ghz wifi I get 40-60. I don,t know what to do and I've looked everywhere. Please help Specs: CPU: AMD FX 6100 (OC) GPU: AMD Rx 580 RAM: 16gb mixed brand ddr3 NETWORKING: TP-LINK Archer T6E Sound: DIAMOND HD audiocard
  3. Hi all, I've looked at numerous ways to eliminate stutter, but nothing's really worked... So here goes: Recently my power supply blew and I took it in to the store that custom built it for me under warranty. All was good and they replaced the hard-drive and the cpu cooler, because apparently it had died too as a result... They also ended up giving me new ram, as I realised they had damaged my original corsair vengeace rgb ram sticks when installing the cooler. So now I have G.Skill Trident Z RGB 300MHz Ram... All was good and seemed to be running fine (wasnt really playing many games last week) and then the other day I went to play farcry 5 and started experiencing really bad microstutter... This was unbearable, so I stopped playing. I then went to play rust and experienced stuttering there too... The stutters were less frequent, but more prolonged... I have NEVER experienced stutter in games on my GTX 1080, i7 8700k system... I thought it may have been the graphics drivers, so I reinstalled them - still stuttered. I then thought that it was only games on my HDD because CSGO (on my ssd) seemed to be running fine. So defragged my HDD and ran Seagate's diagnostic check on it - it passed the diagnostic check and defragging did not help. I have ran intel's Processor diagnostic tool and microsoft's own memory diagnostic tools, both passed with flying colours... GPU and CPU temps are both stable, so I don't think it's them... although I did experience some really bad lag/mouse cursor jitter after running something cpu intensive the day I noticed the stutter (can't remember what it was though...) Played csgo tonight and now realise that it is stuttering too (although much less frequent)... When playing pubg I am also dropping frames significantly, going from 160-180fps to 60fps when the stutters happen - which is not fun at all... I am planning on contacting the system builder tomorrow, but just wanted some input from you guys first... Can anyone advise me on anything else that could be causing this? Thanks in advance.
  4. A week ago I started experiencing huge packet loss in online games and discord sometimes it is just a spike other times it sticks for a while, I was going to call my ISP to test my line but the thing is my router wasn't acting right. It is echolife HG520b came free with my ISP subscription and it has been on for 2-3 years, recently (before the packet loss thing happened) I wasn't able to access http://192.168.1.1 and the only way to access it was to reset my router also sometimes it just restarts on its own. Should I call my ISP to check my line or just buy a new router since this looks like symptoms of a dying router?
  5. Hi, so im having some latency issues with my i7 4790k https://imgur.com/dV1qxyl . I suspect the issue has to do with the intergrated graphics, as when I try to bench test my i7 4790k, it shows a much lower latency (using cpuz to benchmark/intel extreme tuning ulitity). However when I try to benchmark the integrated graphics card (intel HD graphics 4600) using Intel's extreme tuning utility, all I get is a "The Graphics Stress Test Failed". https://imgur.com/ZdnwLWX. Any chance does anyone know of any ways to get this back to working condition? Or do I simply have to live with it till I can purchase a new cpu/mobo/ram? (I've already tried multiple os's, drivers, etc)
  6. I recently got new graphics card (GTX 1080 ti) a month ago and since then i have been having a strange problem with youtube audio. At some point after a youtube video begins the audio lags a few seconds behind the video. My headphones are plugged in straight to my computer, not at all connected to my GPU. This happens on every browser on my PC, not just chrome. What should I do to fix this?
  7. When I do a speed test on my computer my latency or ping is consistently over 100. But on other devices like my phone or iPad it will be less. What can I do to help this? My download speeds are between 75-115mbps.
  8. My HDD have the latency of around 12 - 58ms when doing about 10-50 Mbps writing. Should I be worried if the number seems to grow a little bit at this point? Usually I see them at 0.1 ms. I just ate seeing many of my HDD failing after a while. My last old PC had about 2 HDD breaking apart due to bad sectors. I've only had this hard drive in my PC for about 1 year, and I'm using this via Windows 10 task manager tool. HDD is Toshiba 1 TB 7200 rpm.
  9. Hi friends, I got a new awesome samsung B-die kit (3600 running at 3200 with my ryzen 1700) and lowered timings from CL16 to 14-14-14-28. After doing a memory benchmark in Aida46, the memory latency is about 79ns, is this normal? This is not very fast right? Is there anything I can do to improve this? My mobo is x370 Taichi. Another question about lowering timings, should I reduce the 'bank cycle' timing as well? CPU-Z shows me this: Should I reduce it? If yes to what value? It just looks high to me compared to the other timings.
  10. just as the title said .. is cl14 memory worth it for ryzen or i should be fine with cl 16 ? as there is 30$ premium for the cl14 3200mhz
  11. Sooo , 2 or 3 weeks ago my isp installed a new internet connection in home however i've seen lag spikes , in between 40-300 ms when ping directly to the router (Only via WI-FI) The main reason which im consern is because in my friend's home there is the exact same model and there is no latency whatsoever , there is something i can do by myself before asking My ISP to come again, as far a I know the only thing they did was swiching the wifi channel which kinda worked lagspikes are know between 20-45 ms but there is still a lot of them . Thanks in forehand , sorry for my shitty english and my router is a ZTE ZXHN F660
  12. As a DDR3 user I never really had the interest to inform myself about DDR4, now that I plan on switching from Haswell to Ryzen 5 I have to buy the fitting RAM again.I was banging my head against the wall when I tried to wrap my head around the speeds I saw, going anywhere from 2133MHz up to 4600MHz while I'am sitting here using CL9's w/ 1666MHz feeling now like a peasant. Please just make it easy for me and tell me what's the right speed to combine with a R5 2600X on a X470-Pro platform.
  13. Hi, My Tascam US 322 is starting to turn itself off for no reason and I think it's time to replace it. The question is with what? I don't need or do anything with a mic or guitar / any instrument recording, however I do plug in 1 or 2 usb keyboards from time to time to use with FLStudio, so latency here is required to be as low as possible. Requirements - Needs to have an output to my amp (it receives phono (rca) - Edifier S730) - Needs to have an output to my headphone amp (it receives phono (rca) - 02) - Needs to have low latency with FL Studio for when I use my usb keyboards Everything I find is boasting about mic inputs and amps etc, which I don't care about and not much or no information that matters to my needs. My current short list is: - Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 2nd Generation (I think this may be overkill) - Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 2nd Generation (My leading contender) - Behringer U-PHORIA UMC204HD - Behringer UMC404HD - Roland RUBIX24 - Steinberg UR22 MKII I also found that my Tascam US322 doesn't work at all in ubuntu, I was lucky enough to get the internal speakers in my monitor to work when using ubuntu, it would be nice if it worked on linux but this is not a must have as I spend most of my time in win10 due to adobe creative suite requirements. What are your thoughts & recommendations? Thanks
  14. Let me preface by saying that I have watched the LTT video on cables. The video only seemed to cover artifacting/signal loss at long distances though. Alright, so from what I've gathered the Vive's cables are only about 15ft long out of the box. My questions are: How long could you extend the Vive's HDMI and USB cables before you would experience input lag? Also what solutions would you suggest for extending the cable length. Are active cables overkill. Does any amount of repeaters produce a noticeable amount of input lag?
  15. This is an xpost from a youtube comment which in under 24 hours has shown some backing. Linus I know you're unlikely to hear this comment, but PLEASE help me out. Anyone reading, like this comment if you too are interested. TL;DR: PLEASE make an input latency comparison video on LCD vs CRT, just like you did for FreeSync vs GSync. I used to play COD on a huge CRT tv, and I will personally swear by the difference between playing on my family's 50" flatscreen. I think there could be a difference between a living room LCD and an LCD monitor, but I keep reading online that CRTs boast a 0ms input latency. The problem here is that LCD monitor companies like asus, acer, benq, hp, dell, and viewsonic ALL boast about their REFRESH RATES of 1-5ms. This stat IS relevant, as ghosting is a huge issue with LCDs in general, but it isn't the same in terms of INPUT LATENCY which gamers have to face in fast paced, reaction time based games like League of Legends. I saw your video on comparing Gsync to Freesync, and I found it very informational. Your setup was literally perfect. The LED circuit board inputting the fire command was GENIUS, and the 980 fps camera was exactly what you needed to truly test the problem. I would be IMMENSELY grateful for you to do a similar comparison video between your typical 1ms response time gaming LCD monitor and any sort of 85+Hz CRT monitor. I just dont have the kind of apperatus for testing like you do. With your level of popularity, who knows.
  16. Hi! I have a ram kit which runs at 1600mhz cl9. If I lower the latency that means I oced my memory from 1600:2=800:9=88.8mhz to 1600:2=800:8=100mhz (effectively). I know this stuff. But a video from Paul's Hardware in a q&a he talked more about this based on a crucial article which I didn't really understood. So it is calculated with the equation that I wrote or not?
  17. Hey guys and gals. I came across some forum in which one of the users said that: "CPU-Z does have a very cool feature on the "SPD" tab that reads the JEDEC timing tables from the DIMMs. This information is useful when first setting up a new build-your-own system because the default timings may not be the best for your build. The "Memory" tab in CPU-Z shows the current timing settings." So I downloaded CPU-Z and below are 2 screenshots from it. I have 2X16 GB Hyper-X predator 2400 MHZ ram with an advertised 12 CL, which brings me to 2 questions: 1. I want to make sure that I got what I paid for regarding the speed and latency. I understand that these 2 tabs provide all the info, but I am not sure on how to read them. Which number exactly shows the speed and which shows the measured latency? I am confused since the MEMORY tab shows a latency of 17 (higher than what I am supposed to have...) while the SPD tab has 4 latency readings under the "Timings Table", only one of which is 12. So on what should I be looking at? 2. As for the quote of the above user, how can I know if the default timings are the best for my build or whether I should change it? And a bonus noob question - why do I sometimes see 1200MHZ and sometimes 2400? Thanks a lot
  18. I have had a latency problem for quite some time now that isn’t like anything I have been able to find. The latency I am getting tends to build up over several days without a reboot. With latency after reboot of 80 microseconds to after a week being 2000 microseconds and continue to grow. My current setup is an ASUS ROG hero VIII motherboard, I7 intel 7600k processor, ASUS ROG GTX 1060. Note temperatures have remained well under 60 degrees C and no games are running when latency is occurring, this causes audio skips/cracks and mouse lag. Since this latency is not apparent right after a boot it is tough to troubleshoot are there any tools available where I can track down this problem faster instead of having to wait a week between trying something new? The only tool I have found is latencymon but it can’t tell me what is causing this buildup
  19. I'm looking to buy a new HDMI because I need something that is 10ft. Can someone please point me to a link for one that has the same specs needed for the PS4. I have a 1ms response gaming monitor and don't want a low quality hdmi to affect performance. Thank You.
  20. Alright, I'm going to start this post off by giving a quick backstory of the issue. This is mainly because it's a long road and frankly a good story to listen to (It also will give you a little background on the different troubleshooting steps I've went through). Around 2 years ago (May be longer) I noticed that while in-game (CS:GO at the time) my ping would spike to 500+ and I basically would not be able to play. I went and did the normal troubleshooting including pinging a few different sources, running a trace route, and a few other things and I noticed that my ping would spike to 1500+ randomly (When the current average was around 15). My current ISP is Rogers. I'm using their Gigabit business internet. Throughout the years I've tried a few things to solve this issue and they include: Changing my network configuration: - Cleaned up the network, added a 24 Port gigabit switch, different configurations where my Ethernet connection was plugged. Swapped my modem: - Still using the one they provided but I'm willing to switch. The problem continued while in bridged mode and normal mode. Upgraded my internet: - This was something that I was going to do either way but the issue still persisted. Went from 250 Down 10 Up to 1 GBPS Down 25 Up. Changed Computer Hardware: - I was told that it could possibly be my motherboard. I wanted to build a new PC at the time so I decided to just build it but the problem insisted (I guess this is a good time to mention that it happens on all computers on the network). I've talked to my ISP a lot of times throughout the last few years with no prevail. The issue has nothing to do with the amount of people on the network or any specific time. It happens at random points in the day, with a different amount of people on the network, and sometimes doesn't happen for weeks but eventually always comes back. I'm not really sure what to do at this point and any input would be appreciated. PS: I will post some logs of the tracerst, pinging, and anything else when I get home currently in class.
  21. Hey LTT Community, I have a question about using mobile data for PC gaming. I am a northern California resident and renting a downstairs unit in a house in the Bay Area. Our local ISPs are Comcast and AT&T, and our house is signed up with AT&T. At the moment, the fastest package offered in our neighborhood is 10 Mpbs, which is terrible by today's standards. I play PC games (PUBG/Overwatch/Fortnite) and as soon as our landlady upstairs is streaming Netflix and on her phone, my ping is close to 200ms in games. We get about 6.5 Mbps download on our current plan. She is not interested in switching to Comcast due to past experiences, and at the moment Google Fiber hasn't reached our neighborhood. I am looking for other options. Recently I realized I could tether my Samsung Galaxy S7 to my computer via USB cable and use that for a connection. While the download/upload speeds are much faster than our current set up, I still get about 200-230ms in games, so it is not a feasible alternative to using our normal network. Why are download/upload speeds so fast using this, but the ping is so high? Do you guys have any suggestions for me being able to use mobile data to game with less latency? I would be happy to add $20-30 bucks to my phone plan if it meant I could game whenever I wanted. I could definitely use some educating in this department, any tips would be super helpful. P.S. I saw Linus's video about gaming on a camping trip or in the woods, and he had some kind of Telus USB stick that he could "load with data" for a few days to game. Is there any U.S. equivalent to this? And does it solve the latency issue?
  22. I have a laptop or as the box says gaming notebook pc with a 3gb 1060, i7700hq, 12 gb ddr4 running at 2400mz i think, and 1 tb hard drive. it is about 6 or 7 months old and i have recently begun feeling high latency when playing games. when trying to move my mouse takes forever to respond, tried getting a new mouse thinking that mine was broken (the cord of my mouse is kind of beaten up) and the new mouse did the same thing. does anybody know of a fix or what could be wrong???
  23. I couldn't find a better place to post this so I though this thread seemed the most adequate for the LTT choices available. Is it just me or do desktops just seem to provide a more immersive experience than laptops, even high end ones? I really don't want to drag this question on but as I have gotten older I feel as though I have developed autism and began to notice more and more things that drive me crazy. Among these is never being happy with anything, but especially laptops vs my desktop. My desktop build is a fx vishers 4350 on a gigabyte gmt-78 and 4 gigabytes of ram, I am currently running an HP elite book with 8 gb ram and an 15-2540M cpu, but I did have an alienware r3 with an i7 and 32 gb of ram and an ssd at one point up until last year the processor died and I have yet to get around to replacing, but I am planning on it. I am sure I can explain what I mean but it would be much easier if you were here to show you and explain it more throughly with in person, but to explain it briefly I would say obviosly my AW R3 with the 17 at around 3.7 hz operating frequency was running the fastest (even though the fx ran close to that if not surpassing it when oc'd), but when I speak about latency I don't mean processing speed I mean mouse to screen immersion speed. And by that I mean the speed between the time you move the move and the time the screen reacts and also the polling rate. And to be fair I have experimented with many different laptops and mouses and desktops and their software but always feel this way, as if when I am behind a pc, regardless of how old or out dated it is, that I am driving a ferrari or a porsche, but when I use a laptop I feel like I am more at it whims, as if it is throttling down to control its weigh as it moves around turns all on its own, it just feels different. Like I can actively tell when I am using a pc and I can actively tell when I am on a desktop, it just feels so much more reliable, is there any truth to this? Does anyone else know why this is?

  25. Hi, I had an issue a week or so ago which I seemed to solve initially, for now I’m not so sure.Basically, my internet speeds are pretty much as they should be until about 4pm. Then my Xbox one download speed drops from 220mbps to anywhere from 20mbps-120mbps. What is strange is that if I run a speed test on any other device I get 220mbps and equally if I run a speed test through the Xbox browser I get 220mbps. It’s simply the built in speed test that is reducing my speeds by more than half and also fluctuating my latency. I’m very confused by this. Is my router throttling my Xbox one and if so why and how do I stop it? It’s fine during the day up until about 4pm.Thanks,Tom.
