Recently my Asus GL503GE started to lag(cannot go above 10-15 fps) in all games(and some normal apps). Here are the specs: CPU: I7-8750H GPU: GTX 1050ti RAM: 16 GB Storage: Windows 10 on a 120GB Adata SSD, and a 1TB HDD. I have tried reinstalling my display drivers, set my games to use the Nvidia GPU in the Nvidia control panel and the Windows Graphics preferences settings, use the 'best performance' power plan, but nothing has worked. I also have the latest BIOS version for my laptop and the latest Windows updates. When I play a game, the Nvidia GPU stays at 0% most of the time, but does random spikes of activity to 100% and the Intel GPU stays between 10% and 50%, with some random spikes to 100% as well. Here is a screenshot just after I shut down Elden Ring: What can I try to fix this?

Hi, looking for assistance in forcing laptop to "remember" to output to External Monitor upon boot, with no internal display connected. Laptop AORUS X7 DT V7 GTX 1070 Intel i7-7820HK Display Outputs: HDMI 2.0, Mini DisplayPort 1.3, Thunderbolt 3 Internal Display: 1440p / 144hz, 40-pin LVDS Ribbon cable. Internal Display is broken. I'm trying to have the laptop to boot and output display to an External Monitor only. With the internal display disconnected, the laptop will not display output to External Monitor. When the internal display IS connected, only then can the laptop output display to the External Monitor. Once into Win10, I can set display output to "Second Screen Only" and then disconnected the internal display. But if the laptop is turned off, the internal display has to be connected before turning on. Only then in Win10 can I change the output back to "Second Screen Only". Things I've tried that don't work: In Win10, Notification Tray >> Project, selecting "Second Screen Only". Upon boot, it seems like this isn't remembered with internal display disconnected. Used different cables: HDMI-to-HDMI, DisplayPort-to-MiniDP, HDMI-to-Thunderbolt. None work when connected to External Monitor only; Internal Display still must be connected before boot. Used a different monitor. Check BIOS to find display settings. Settings doesn't exist. Disabled/Uninstalled internal display drivers Can I enter BIOS with only External Monitor connected? Yes, I can enter the BIOS. But when booting Win10, laptop will not output display to External Monitor if Internal Display is not connected. Repair the Internal Display/Ribbon Cable instead? This is a Frankenstein project. I want to say Windows 10 is the problem here because laptop can boot into BIOS and output to External Display. It is only upon booting into Windows 10 that the External Display sleeps, thus laptop is attempting to find its internal display if not connected. Thanks, and any help is appreciated.

laptop Laptop crashes when the charger is plugged in
The_Warrio332 posted a topic in Troubleshooting
Hey, My mother has been having issues with her Asus Vivobook (Asus Vivobook 15 F512JA-AS34). The laptop works as expected while on battery, but the moment you plug in the charger (while in Windows) the laptop freezes. It is the same charger that came in the box, and it does charge the laptop's battery. I expected an issue with Windows, but for some reason, I was unable to get into the Windows installation environment (Created an installation disk with the Windows Media Creation Tool). BIOS works normally, with or without a charger and I do not suspect thermals to be the issue. It gets slightly more weird after this. I used the Ventoy software to make a bootable USB and put on Linux Mint on it to test if I could replicate the Windows issues on Linux. I was unable to get into the Linux environment (tried both Cinnamon and Mate versions) and get the following error screen (same for both versions) The Linux ISO's and windows install were working (tested on a secondary laptop) After a few more attempts I tried running Hiren's Boot PE, but could not get it to launch. The Linux built-in Memtest stopped at around 25%. Are the problems described here fixable or do you believe it is a hardware problem and we need to get a new laptop? -
Hi all, I have a laptop which work let me keep when we moved over to new laptops. Admittedly i think it was just a nice IT guy as opposed to company policy. However, the laptop is bios locked, initially I managed to boot it from usb windows media, and reinstalled windows, removing all partitions (bitlocker was mentioned during this part). Now when I turn on the laptop it takes me to a corporate login page, seems like initial set up of a corporate laptop. I am wondering if I replace the SSD if this will solve the issues and I can reinstall windows on it then? I’ve also read that if I use the new ssd in this machine it will be locked to that machine? I believe the Bios lock is going to be impossible to remove. Happy to answer any questions.

I'm becoming more mobile and not using my desktop much. I'm considering of buy a 14" laptop for web development and light/casual gaming. It should handle 4k monitors easily without stuttering. I'm considering the Legion Slim 5 Gen 8 AMD (14") with RTX 4060, 32gb ram, AMD Ryzen™ 7 7840HS. I'm used to lenovo's warranty and they're quite good. What do you guys think?

My MSI Laptop (MSI Summit E13 Flip Evo A11MT-223) has been shutting off without warning, the battery is near full too. Not even a BSOD, just completely dies on me. To turn it back on, I have to plug it in, close it, open it and press the power button. This has happened 4 times within the last few hours and I don't understand why. It has only happened when I have it unplugged. I highly doubt it is overheating because I have the fans set to balanced mode, and it shut off without the laptop feeling hot at all or the fans even spinning. In windows 10 event viewer it says I have 4 critical events that happened in the last hour (it has crashed 4 times) Event ID 41, saying it has rebooted wihout cleanly shutting down first. Any ideas on what's wrong?? I updated windows and other drivers. Do I need to clean fans or something? I've had it for about a year and a half with on and off use.

Hi, So i have repasted 4 times like in a 6 months period and i have even replaced the both laptop's fans with new ones but i see no improvement in temperatures. What i'm doing wrong? few things from side: - Using laptop Cooler - Vents are clear - Bios Up to date - Room temp not high - No virus or anything, fresh installation I can not under-volt because of my Bios update version with Intel XTU, neither under-volting works with throttlestop. So under-volting is not possible. CPU temps go to 100C even with loads like 10-30%, where as GPU is fine at 99% of load. Please help.

I have a ASUS ROG Zephyrus 2021. I am trying to factory reset my laptop, but when I tried I got stuck on the BitLocker Recover screen. When I enter my BitLocker Code, I get this error message from my laptop (image). When I close it, it brings me back to the BitLocker screen. F11 and ESC also bring me back to BitLocker. What do I do?

Hello everyone I am re shelling my acer spin 3 SP314-53n laptop as the plastic has deteriorated and I cant screw the hinges in anymore and the case is cracked and broken and being held together via cellotape for about a year ish + I have found the part numbers for both the cases however cannot find a palmrest (6B.HFCN5.001) with a us keyboard and I'd rather not use a uk keyboard. The parts supplier has a us keyboard separate. Would anyone know of a place where I could find one as I cannot find any that arent sold out and if not how would i switch the keyboards across?(i know its probably plastic riveted but i am willing)

For the past 2-3 months I've had an issue where my CPU will randomly drop to 0.4 GHz even though it's nowhere near overheating and is on full battery. I've tried and tried again to fix the issue but cannot find any solutions. Laptop Specs: Model Name: Lenovo Ideapd Gaming 3 15ACH6 - Type 82K2 AMD Ryzen 5600H 16 GB RAM @ 3200Mhz Nvidia Geforce 1650 Max Q Normally: In Games: The max CPU temp that Lenovo has set is 80 degrees. The issue only seems to happening in games, I have no idea why. I've seen intel users have the exact same problems and solutions for those included ThrottleStop which isn't available for AMD CPUs. I've tried resetting Windows, installing Windows from a fresh ISO, updating my BIOS, reinstalling my graphics drivers and nothing has worked.

Laptop model and specs: When I bought back then 6 years ago it didn't have any thermal problems when I play games but after 6 years of using it and cleaning it, it started having thermal issues when I updated my wins 10 regularly this year on the same games I play: Destiny 2 6 years ago my laptop could handle destiny 2 without any issues. Right now it throttles like crazy on super low settings. I uploaded core temp readings of before and after when it starts throttling and other stuff I recently got my laptop cleaned and everything. when idle my temps are 40-50 bellow. When I game it just shoots up to 100 I googled everything that could help me like managing processor power in the battery settings, tweaking my GPU, doing things to steam. It didn't help at all.

My computer is ASUS Tuf F15 (i7 3070). I used the command "reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power /v PlatformAoAcOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 0" in PowerShell to disable S0 standby and enable S3 standby. However, when the computer wakes up from standby, it automatically restarts after about 30 seconds.

To save everyone time I have summarised the conclusion we came to in the thread. Summary updated 12th January 2024. The AX201 (CNVIO2) can only work with Intel 10th Generation CPUs or newer! The PCIe cards (in title) can work with some CNVIo laptops, it depends if the manufacturer included PCIe support as well in the slot and sadly they won't tell you, its trial and error. PCIe cards or PCIe to M.2 WiFi adapters will work great on desktops, although many with M.2 WiFi sockets can also be swapped out. I did on my ASUS Z370-I Gaming, but the same caveats apply if your existing card is CNVio, although it seems more common for them to support PCIe too than on laptops. The Intel BE200 WiFi 7 card is now out, it should work equally as well except theres a chance it wont be fully WiFi 7 compliant as the standard has not been ratified yet, although Intel seem to think its likely to be fine. As I wont be getting WiFi 7 until its ratified I will still cautiously recommend the Intel AX210 as it supports the full WiFi 6e (which will still work on WiFi 7) and seems to perform slightly better than the AX200 even on plain WiFi 5. Although strangely I've also found the AX200 performs better than the AX210 on WiFi 6, though did not test this on the laptop so it may just be differences in antenna design. Laptop that supports CNVIo2 but strangely seems to work better with a PCIe card: ASUS VivoBook S15 S533EA Laptops that came with CNVio cards but confirmed to be PCIe compatible: ASUS GL703G ASUS ZenBook Pro 15 UX580GE Dell G7 7588 Dell Inspiron 7586 2-in-1 Dell Inspiron 7786 2-in-1 Dell Precision 3530 Lenovo Y540-17IRH-PG0 Lenovo Yoga S740 MSI GE 75 Raider 8SG MSI GS63VR MSI GL65-9SEK (AX200 performed slower than original card but AX210 may fix that) MSI GS65-9SE MSI GL75 9SFK MSI GT72S MSI Modern 14 A10M ThinkPad X1 Extreme gen 1 (no bluetooth support as USB not supported on socket) Laptops confirmed NOT to work: Acer Swift 1 SF114-32 MSI GS75 - but was worked around by using spare NVMe socket intended for SSD. GS75 Stealth 8SF Motherboards confirmed to work with PCIe cards in their WiFi M.2 slot: Gigabyte B360N GSM (with M.2 slot advertised as CNVi 1) Motherboards confirmed NOT to work: MSI B360i The original thread continues below: Has anyone successfully replaced an Intel® Wireless-AC 9560 with an AX201? I tried on my ASUS GL703G and the laptop refuses to power up, or even detect the charger, with the card installed. When I remove it the laptop immediately tries to power up (like it remembered I'd pressed the power button and the blocking factor was suddenly removed). I even tried removing the battery to make sure it hadn't crashed the power management chip or something (kinda should have done that before swapping the cards I guess, but no damage done). ASUS do not blacklist cards, but they also refuse to provide any support for aftermarket upgrades, the usual response of "if it doesn't work, it must not be compatible". The seller I bought the AX201 from is repeating the same thing. I'm almost certain the card MUST be faulty to behave like this, as Intel clearly list the AX201 as the replacement for the AC 9560, both being CRF cards. https://www.intel.co.uk/content/www/uk/en/support/articles/000026155/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html It makes no sense a compatible but somehow not supported by the BIOS (why would it even need BIOS support if there is no blacklist?) card would prevent powering up. At worst I'd expect it to not be detected. Such a PITA after my other laptop, also by ASUS, went flawlessly upgrading from the 8265 to an AX200. I just knew CRF/CNVIo was going to be trouble.

Hello, I’m look for recommendations on a new laptop for productivity. This would consist of using excel and other processing programs, email, work, etc. I’m not as in tune with laptops compared to desktop pcs these days. I would like a larger amount of storage (ssd for booting preferred), something not too big or too small, longevity, and usb-c docking capability. Thanks in advance! Luke

I'm really just looking for a good personal Laptop, I do a lot of traveling for work, so nothing massive. I do a lot of work in BlueBeam Revu, I'm an engineer, but i don't need a daily driver, just something I can pull out on the fly and make quick adjustments if needed as well as simple things like checking email and browsing the web if needed. Key point I would like to have include: USB C charging USB C Connectivity AUX Preferably under the $800 mark, but $1,000 is the budget A brand that doesn't start with a "D" Intel would be preferred for this type of work. I think that pretty much sums up what I am looking for. I have already found a couple that I like but I'm not quick to pull the trigger, as I have failed in the past MANY times to pick a decent unit. Both my Dell and HP units just... were lacking? The only one I have owned so far that I actually enjoyed was my Lenvo ThinkPad, but that was before I started on my current career path. Thanks in advance.

I recently bought a Samsung galaxy pro 3 360 2 in 1. The best buy listing says: Samsung - Galaxy Book3 Pro 360 2-in-1 16" 3K AMOLED Touch Screen Laptop - Intel 13th Gen Evo Core i7-1360P - 16GB Memory - 1TB SSD - Graphite. I just realized that there is a deal on P16s 16" AMOLED. The title for that product says: Lenovo ThinkPad P16s Laptop: 16" 4K+ OLED, Ryzen 7 Pro 7840U, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD. I am confused as this P16s can be had for ~300$ cheaper and I am still in the return window. Would love to get insights from wise strangers on the internet. My use case: 1. I have pretty powerful machines at home and don't particularly need the power as I can remote into the home network. God bless tailscale. 2. I play games like civ 6, football manager which work on either from what I understand. This is more for when on a flight. 3. I haven't experienced the display on P16s, but the screen on the galaxy book is absolutely fantastic. I would love to take it to the rooftop and be able to work. 4. Need the 16" as have an eye condition and need the real estate as everything needs to be zoomed in. 5. The galaxy book has touch screen and has a S Pen. I am indifferent to the S Pen and only use case for touch maybe the games in flights. That is if the games are touch compatible. Is it worth it for me to go through the return process and switch to the P16S. Appreciate your time and guidance.

About a year ago, I've upgraded my Laptop (Acer Aspire A317-51G) from 8GB of Ram (2x4GB) to 20GB (1x4GB, 1x16GB). It always worked fine but yesterday, it just decided to not boot -> It starts, the Power LED turns on, but there is no video, the display doesn't even turn on. If I remove the stick of RAM that I added a year ago and replace it with the old one, it does the same thing. I have no other slots to test, because the other 4GB are soldered to the Mobo.

Here is my case, I am currently doing a doctorate in Europe and in need of an upgrade computer wise, now I can either choose between a new laptop or a desktop, for a laptop I can't spend more than 1500€ since most available models at this budget are with a 4060, as for a desktop (screen included) I can push the budget up to 2000€ and between the two one has the advantage of portability and the other can be customized and upgraded over time, not to mention the performance difference, now what would you advice between what kind of PC I go with and if you have any good laptop suggestions or desktop builds within the budgets, that would be very helpful. NB: * Location is Italy * Primary usage of the upgrade is for research and gaming (the 2020 and forward single player releases) * I already own an old laptop HP Probook i7 3rd gen which still works and will upgrade just its battery for light daily usages

Hello, I am planning on buying a laptop for myself for regular day-to-day office work and some/ rare gaming. I have been looking at Lenovo and Asus and I am confused between 2 specifications. A-> Company- ASUS- TUF A15 CPU- AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX GPU- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop RAM- 8GB DDR4-3200 SO-DIMM *2 Storage- 512GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 SSD B-> Company- Lenovo LOQ CPU- Intel i5-12450H GPU- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop RAM- 8GB DDR5-4800MHz (SODIMM) *2 Storage- 512 GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 TLC Both systems have 8GBx2 = 16GB of ram. but A has DDR4 ran whereas B has DDR5 ram. Both are at an approximate same price point but the ASUS laptop is refurbished. My approximate budget is 70,000 INR +/- 5,000 INR. I am unsure as to which laptop to select. Please feel free to ask any questions/ clarifications/ details required from my side. Kindly help.

I have looked around what laptop to buy, but there are too many options. So i was wondering if you could help me. My use cases are: running some docker containers (ex databases, and web applications locally), compiling rust and c++, modeling in FreeCad, content consumption, writing code. My preferences: linux would be appreciated, the price shouldn't be more then 1200usd, don't mind it if its used, Max 16inche screen(but 14 is preferred) Good enough so i can last about 5 years a fairly good keyboard I'm willing to go up in price if there is a good reason. Thanks in advance
