I have looked around what laptop to buy, but there are too many options. So i was wondering if you could help me. My use cases are: running some docker containers (ex databases, and web applications locally), compiling rust and c++, modeling in FreeCad, content consumption, writing code. My preferences: linux would be appreciated, the price shouldn't be more then 1200usd, don't mind it if its used, Max 16inche screen(but 14 is preferred) Good enough so i can last about 5 years a fairly good keyboard I'm willing to go up in price if there is a good reason. Thanks in advance

This is an issue that I have had with my previous PC usage and am starting to have again and am not sure what is causing it. (Laptop Devices). 1 device was running windows 10 and 1 is now running windows 11. On my windows 10 machine I used to use the hibernation feature and when I would leave it plugged in (connected to power) and charging it would randomly crash and I'd have to press the power button to turn it on and when I did, everything had to start up again like I had just turned it on after having been powered down. Now i am having that issue again on my new laptop running windows 11. I have no idea what is causing the issue. I have provided some text documents with event viewer logs that may be able to help someone figure out why this is happening. I'd like to note that this will happen whether I put the Laptop to sleep or use the hibernation feature. Sometimes I can place the computer to Sleep or Hibernate and if I reopen it shortly after it's fine. I couldn't tell you how long after I put it to sleep it FAILS and just crash's other than what I can see in the event viewer. Edit: It sometimes also hangs and looks like it's on but it's not and I have to hold the power button to turn it off and then back on. Computer issues.txt Crashing.xml

I've got an Acer Aspire a315-g42-r5yr Laptop from a friend for basic maintenance. After cleaning everything, changing bios battery, i went to reinstall windows, i successfully booted the installer, installed windows, and then: no bootable device found. I've tried all over again, and again, then i started troubleshooting. I went trough every posibble setting in bios, least 3 times and if windows is installed, i get no bootable device error. But if ubuntu is installed, everything is working fine. Any ideas why is this happening?

I already have an Samsung Tab S 7+ but I would prefer a Laptop that I can use together with it. My Budget is currently around 1000€ which would be equal to around 1200 USD. Hi guys, sorry I didn't know what other channel to put this into but I have a question for any current or graduated engineering student. So i'm currently deciding between either getting a laptop (HP Envy x360 16Gb R7 7730U), iPad air (256gb) or Samsung Tab S9 (256gb). I am going into my first year of engineering and have been told by many that an ipad/tablet will be the better choice as it'll make taking notes a lot easier. The doubt that i have in my mind is that will the Tab S9 or iPad air be able to run all the applications that I would need for engineering for atleast the first 2-3 years. Any advice is appreciated, Thank you!!

Hello fellow enthusiasts. I have run into a problem with my bios for my Gigabyte R5 KD Gaming laptop. I hadnt updated it in a little over a year and when I did after doing maintenance on the internals, I.E. cleaning and repasting, I figured I would go ahead and do so. well I went from having a great laptop, to now a laptop that I can't tune(overclock), control the fans and can no longer configure my RGB. The gigabyte control center also no longer recognizes that its a gigabyte product. Please help. I cant even find the old bios file to roll it back. My old bios was from 2022 and it was amazing. The old bios looked like the red picture and the new one is the garbage insyde one.

Hey all! I'm looking for a new laptop and have the chance to buy either of these at the same price [€800 NL] (spec sheets linked below). I'm a student, so use case is normal productivity tasks, some python programming, and taking notes in tablet mode. I like having the chance to maybe connect an iGPU down the line (both have thunderbolt 4). Their main difference is the processor, i5-1335U in the HP and i7-1260P in the Samsung. I'm a bit concerned about the thermals and built quality of the Samsung, but I think the i7 is better on paper. Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated! I bought this laptop a couple of years ago, and used it with cabled internet. But I switched from wifi provider and now I have to use wifi. But my laptop has some problems with WiFi because every 5-15 seconds the WiFi stops for 3 seconds and then it is fine again. This is really frustrating when playing games or even when I’m browsing the internet. My network card in my laptop is fully updated and in myAsus it said no problems found when I did a check up for WiFi. Do I have to replace my WiFi card? To which one? Or is it something else? laptop: ASUS tuf gaming fx505dt

Hi, I am gonna be leaving for university and I need help solving my computer situation. I currently have computer I build on my own (RTX3070, 32 GB RAM, 5800X) and since i am going to be leaving for uni i need to figure out what laptop to buy or even if i should buy one. I am going to be studying aerospace engineering. I have 100 / 100 Mbs at home so i can remote into my computer without any problem. I am gonna be studying far from home (I will need to fly home), so taking my pc with me isnt really possible and still i would like to have something better than my ipad air 3. Also I don't want to buy ipad again. There are several ways I can solve my dilema: 1. Buy cheaper tablet for taking notes and just remote for heavier work. Something like samsung galaxy tab... 2. Buy Surface go (i5) and do essentially the same thing as with the tablet, but this would be more versatile and probably i wouldn't need to remote as often. 3. Buy Sufrace pro 9 and hope it will be enough, i could still remote home, but it is more powerfull. But higher end models are pretty pricey. 4. Buy Laptop and forget about taking hand-written. I have a few questions: Is there any other way to take notes digitally and not break a bank? Would any of these options be powerful enough for me? Is there some other alternative aka poweful windows laptop with touch support or notebook with stylus support? Are there any other options I didn't consider. I hope you can help me decide and choose.

Here are some of the things I've tried to do in order to fix it, Used DDU to uninstall both amd and nvidia gpu, then clean installed them Uninstalled all processors and did a fresh install Enabled hardware accelerated gpu scheduling Fresh install of windows 10 Updated Bios to the latest version Upgraded RAM, changed the storage drive Important things to note, the laptop is on a cooling fan and is not overheating

Hi guys, To give you a bit of context, I have a gaming pc at home (a bit old ngl, i5-9400F and 1650Super, 16GB of ram), the thing is that I'm going to buy an ASUS zenbook 15 (Ryzen 7) for class as I'm a student in printing and graphic design. The "problem" is that the ASUS laptop comes with Windows 11 preinstalled and I've always used Windows 10 on my pc at home. So I have 2 options, either when the laptop arrives, I dowgrade from Windows 11 to Windows 10, or I just switch to Windows 11 on my gaming PC at home? I wanted to know what you thought I should do, Thank you very much!!

Hi all, I'm working on an old HP laptop and noticed the trackpad apparead to be quite glitchy, sometimes working and other times being very laggy and even pressing things I hadn't pressed. I realised that this unusual behaviour was when the laptop was plugged in charging and it worked fine when on battery. After some research I found that the earth might be the issue... So I took a broken usb cable, chopped one end off and connected the ground wire to an old metal computer case I had (no components in it, just the case!) and then plugged that into a USB port on the laptop. The trackpad then worked a lot better. It was still a little more buggy than when on battery but was noticeably better and more usable. So now Im not sure if it's the charger or the laptop that is the problem? It's a 3rd party charger from Amazon, I don't have any original or other chargers near me to test. I bought this laptop as part of a bundle with no chargers so have no idea if this issue was there with other chargers or not... I don't really want to buy another one if the issue isn't with the charger. I did put my multi meter on resistance mode and put it between the 'top' pin on the plug (uk plug) and the outside of the barrel jack and it just read 0.L so I presumed the issue was with the cable, but then having read things in other forums I'm confused of if that's a reliable way of being sure as some things mention that they don't have to have this ground? TIA

HI there, It's been month that my audio device went missing on the first boot and need a restart to make it appear. But, when it goes to sleep and hibernation the audio is missing again and I need to restart it. Downgrading and upgrading the driver didn't fix it, even using High Definition Audio. Even after new fresh of windows install make no difference. The audio is Conexant SmartAudio HD, using other device driver makes no different too. Is it hardware issue or newer windows that messed up audiodg? From the device events it said "requires further installation" but the driver program said it successfully installed. Hi! I have a 15.6 HP Envy x360 laptop and the hinge broke recently. Got a replacement in today and went to repair it, however after literal hours trying to get the screen off without breaking it I'm at a stand still. I don't know if I messed up already but there seems no way forward without using force or physically cutting or breaking something. Both sides of my screen is stuck about 1 inch from the top of the screen. I finally got it separated enough to see whats stuck. There is a metal piece that is still attached to the shell for most of the screen and then it's attached to the screen for the top inch. It looks like its attached to a piece of plastic specifically that was clipped to the metal piece. At the very top it seems almost melded into the plastic piece. I can't find any pictures or videos online that's showing this so if anyone has any experience with this laptop or any like this I'd greatly appreciate it.

I have 2 sk hynix drives, one from another system of mine and one that I’m trying to put in an older laptop for my nieces and nephews. They both work in my system, but when I try to boot to the smaller one for the kids, it can’t find a boot device. The 1 tb one works fine, and they are both the same brand and everything, just different sizes. What could be causing this, especially since they both work in other devices?

Just curious if anyone might have experience with editing 720-1080p video. And what would be the cheapest build I could do for a smooth experience editing 720p video and maybe 1080p it just needs to be a simple build nothing fancy something to get the job done and while it doesn't need to render the final job quickly I'd like to avoid lag when scrubbing through video. That's all that's needed. Perhaps a used laptop recommendation too? Ideally looking to spend under $200. I already have 16gbs of DDR4 2400mhz ram. Dyt it'd be fine to use an office PC with like a 7th gen i5 or i7? I have the budget for better but I'm not looking for anything crazy just something that'll work.

I have a laptop with a desktop i9-10900k and an mxm 2080super but the laptop needs a new motherboard which is at least 400$ not including any labor costs or other costs if I had somone replace it, but idk if I should try to sell the laptop or the components to try to save money for a pc but I'm not sure how I would go about that, just looking for recommendations on what I should do
