So at long last, I managed to get around to putting together a dedicated folding rig, which will probably end up being used as a server and LAN rig at some point. Codenamed BOB (Timeriders reference anyone?), the component list is as follows- CPU- Intel E3 1246 v3 (3.5GHz) GPU- MSI 970 (soon to be SLI) Motherboard- Asus Gryphon Z97 Cooler- Kracken x41 RAM- 8Gb Hyperx Fury PSU- EVGA SuperNova GS 650W (Gold) Storage- 120Gb Samsung 840 EVO + WD Red 2Tb Case- Enthoo Evolv Fans- 4x Noctua NF-S12b redux + 1x Noctua NF-P14s redux I was lucky and picked up the processor of Ebay for about £100 less than what it retails for here in the UK, which gave me a bit of wiggle room in the budget for some other stuff. Chose the Gryphon for the cooling features and server grade components which is nice to have in a rig that will be folding pretty much 24/7. It is for the same reason I removed the case fans and put in the Noctuas instead. I was slightly disappointed that I couldn't fit three in the top (older versions of the case allowed it), but two still give ample cooling and the whole rig is whisper quiet, particularly when I use the Thermal Radar to configure the fan profiles. Sound was also the reason for going with the MSI 970, which is quietest out of the 970s (that I could tell) and is unaudible under load, which is another plus as the rig will be running in the same room as I work. Same with the power supply- efficient but not noisy. In fact, the loudest thing in the case at the moment is the Kracken, which I am still in two minds about. Though it is very quiet, the pump makes a very subtle knocking sounds every few seconds, which is getting on my nerves. I had the same thing with my H105, and it went away after a couple of days running, but if it doesn't sort itself out in the next 24 hours I think I'll send it back and get an air cooler with some more Noctuas. The other problem the cooler gave me was mounting it in the back 140mm space. Though the Evolv says it should fit, it was exceptionally tight and took a fair bit of forcing to fit in. Though it is firmly held now, it took nearly an hour of work to get it mounted, which was time I had been expecting to waste. So overall, not convinced watercooling the rig is worth it (only chose it because of the low profile and easier portability for LAN stuff), but it does look nice. Other than the back radiator mounting, the Evolv was a pleasure to work in and looks great. Went with the gunmetal version as it fits with the grey of the fans and the black armoured motherboard and RAM. It was a complete coincidence that all the components followed the same scheme (wasn't planning on making it a themed build at all), but the rig has a subtle military theme going on, which I'm happy with. Cable management was a breeze, the aluminium construction is solid and the hinged side-panels with click-in pins worked an absolute treat. Would recommend to anyone. Lastly, the storage was a combination of an old SSD and the WD Red, which I chose because speed isn't really that important and using the rig as a server made reliability a priority. Running some stability tests and setting up fan profiles now, but after that (and once the cooler issue is ironed out) I'll set this rig to work on Folding. Will be throwing in another 970 at some point, so keeping my eyes peeled for a bargain. Hello all, hope we're all doing just dandy. As mentioned in my previous post, this is my current setup: The tablet in the middle runs Windows 8.1. I want to be able to, if possible; create tiles on the Metro/Modern UI which when pressed will send keystroke combinations to my main [the triple screen one, not in a different room or anything] computer. They've both connected to the same network, the PC is wired and the tablet is wireless. I know basic knowledge of creating batch files on the PC to send keystrokes, just wondering if it's possible to do so wirelessly? I have batch toggles for turning Synergy on and off, turning auto-hide the taskbar on and off, and will soon be creating one to toggle default playback device. I want to be able to open these batch files with key remote key shortcuts. If I've explained myself like an idiot someone please tell me. I've also just seen a spider on the wall so I'm going to retreat to bed like a coward now and cry myself to sleep. Cheers!

If I add two devices to a VPN, will they see each other by default? Say I have two computers. One at my work and one at my home. They are both connected to a VPN I pay for using the same account. Will they be able to communicate as if they are on a local network? The reason I ask is because I don't understand how you get two computers to see each other over WAN as if they are in a LAN. But the way I've read about it, it sounds like that's how it works. If that's not how it works, how does it work, and can I do it if I have access to a VPN?

Hello, so basically, what I want is to stream games from my Gaming PC to my phone using limelight. But not a long time ago I tried to host a little blog (i use to used it just to just download my homeworks to school) and I use freedom, for the free .tk domain name and cloudflare for more Security etc... Finally couples days later, I couldn't access the internet and the only way I could is by using my shitty router (2.4Ghz dual band). I tried everything, to factory reset it etc and it didn't work. So now, I'm trying to use my 2.4-5Ghz (d-link) router to do anything to make it usable for playing etc. Even my youtube videos don't stop to crash -,- . AND BTW: I don't have an internet acess on my 2.4/5Ghz router. Idk why. but my crappy one, yeah. Point: to be able to make some sh*t happend with the dlink router; find a way to make this app work. find out if I have some nasty viruses somewhere say it to me if something is missing... Hi everyone im new in network sharing and the problem is that i can access between the 3 desktops (2 windows 8.1 and 1 windows 7) in my house (that are connected through ethernet cable to the router) but i cant access to the laptop that is connected through wifi. The laptop asks me for credentials when i try to connect to it from the desktop, and i dont know what the credentials are, I tried to create one but failed the attempt to connect.

This has been an issue that has bothered me ever since i refunded my overheating ge70 msi Apache for my custom build. It goes without saying that my computer now is faster, cooler, and overall a more enjoyable experience than my laptop could have given, but seeing now that advancements in cooling, energy savings, display, and graphics on laptops, im feeling a bit of guilt about giving up so fast on laptops. So im just looking for some sway either way, laptop or custom, as the superior platform for someone who wants the most out of their games, but also lan's and partys a lot. Maybe a M-ITX build is a better idea, im not sure? Im also not one to sit in front of a 14" laptop either, i do prefer my 24" screen, but i hate the bulk of my build, even in the HAF-XB Evo.

Today I encountered a very perculiar issue. I was trying to see why my ISP wasn't providing me anywhere near the speed that they "offered" me and noticed that if I connected directly to the modem via my desktop, I got a little less than half of the speed I was getting from my router. Router being used is the linksys e4200 v1 and I need to dig up the modem number. My computer is using the onboard ethernet port on my mobo. Any ideas as to why this may be happening? -
Setting for on-board LAN is set to 'enabled' in BIOS so I have no idea what is wrong. Anyone know why this is happening? -
Disappointed that less and less games are offering LAN and dedicated servers for multiplayer. Why is that?

hello guys, Yesterday i was just browsing facebook and suddenly internet stopped working. I reset my router and my pc, but the internet is just dead. Then i tried the cable which connects my PC on my laptop to see if the cable was damaged, but no problem, internet was working fine on the laptop...(WIFI was disabled!, so it must have been the cable internet that was working) So i decided to update my drivers, which i couldn't find online, so i used the utility disc that i got together with my motherboard. (was that a bad thing to do?) but still no signal. but than there is a weird part to the story: It says it's connected!? and is sending and recieving Bytes.... My friend just bought a PC, http://www.amazon.com/CybertronPC-Borg-709-GMBG70934BL-Desktop-Blue/dp/B00NC06ZF4 , and can't connect to the internet. When he was setting up windows his pc found his wifi network, but it said that it was unable to connect and that he should use ethernet. So he grabbed a netgear powerline adapter, which is not plugged into any surge protectors, and he used it for his xbox for years so that isnt the problem, and it worked long enough for him to download league of legends, then it didn't work. There isn't a red x or yellow triangle on the ehternet icon in windows 8.1, it just doesn't work. He has tried unplugging the router, aurus router btw, unplugging the powerline adapter, resetting stuff. nothing is working. help me

Hey there, I just updated my laptop to 8.1 and now I'm having some troubles with Windows Homegroup (the only other member is my desktop)... Since I'm also planning on running Linux on this laptop and on my desktop, I'm looking for a free universal FTP solution... I tried to run FIlezilla before but to no avail... I also tried VNC but the speed was too slow... I'm on a 100M network (with plans to go gigabit in 4 years) if that matters... No, I do not want to depend on a cloud service since the files that I'd like to sync/copy are greater than 20GB.... Thanks in advance... -Hermit

Hi everyone. Small issue that I was wondering if you could help with. Scenario: I am hosting a TS3 server. I have 2 subdomains and 1 domain name pointed towards it. The PC is on my network so I can connect with the private IP. My friends outside the network can connect to it using the subdomains and domain, but I cannot; I have to use the private IP. I was able to connect using the subdomains earlier today, but when I added the domain I suddenly couldn't use any of them. It isn't really an issue since I can still connect and all of my friends can use them, but I'm just wondering if anybody knows what the issue is. Maybe I did a bad job of explaining. I kinda jumbled it, so I'll lay it out. Set up TS3 server on a PC running 24/7 in my local network Grab a freedns domain name, point it towards the PC. It works. Friends and I can connect by typing said domain name I add another domain since a friend just bought a domain and said we could use it. They can all use both, but I can't use either. I have to use the local address. I have set up TS3 servers like this and had them work like this several times in the past. I'm not too worried; since friends can all still connect. It is just weird.

do i need to buy a network card or does the built in wifi and lan cards do the job both of them are killer and i wanna know if any other mb with other wifi and lan cards but not killer would i have to buy a network card or do all built in cards to the job

Hi, Recently I switched ISPs to a fibre ISP in my area, and when they did, I moved my Wireless-N router (Airport Express) to be inside my desk for easier access. Before, I would use Wifi on all my devices, but now my router is located very close to my computer. What I'm wondering is this: will connecting my MacBook Pro to my router over Ethernet (specifically CAT5e) improve my experience while using the web? I'm asking because the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet that Apple sells are $35, and I don't want to spend that money if it won't give me much benefit. I know it can improve latency, but that doesn't really matter to me too much, as I don't play many online video games. Irrelevant But May Help: So my parents are taking a time off, its because my dad wont get a job and my mother is afraid that he'll take it as an "Okay i dont need to work" sign, Im pulled to both sides, Anyways i chose my mom, we moved to our grandparents house where my sister is living (she made a room before this happened she used to come home frequently in weekends), i was hoping to move my computer at my sisters room, wide but she said not enough space so okay to the Library then. Im still havibng problems wiring stuff in there not too mention my 6th-sensed cousin said theres a big black spirit there, but an paranormal expert decided to came by for fun, she tells who dwells in these shells(rhyme ^.^) but she said the library is a big tree, not scary, but my cousin's 6th sense isnt sharpened(after all shes 10). Long story short ive been here for 2 weeks, disconnected really changed my living style, i need to get busy so i practice my manga drawings alot and try to clean the library up. The Library is HOT not to mention im exhausting a few more Celsius into the air and its also full of mosquitos, day by day the smell of old books and mosquitos even the heat doesnt bother me. My grandparents are planning to help my future upgrades so thats good. Problem: INTERNET! My shitty motherboard doesnt have an Antennae so i cant connect to any wifi, even if i did i get one bar outside their room and zero when i get to the library, heck i got 2 bars in my sister room in a good spot(crouching on the bed. seriously.) The downstairs isnt even used anymore, the most liveliest place is upstairs, heck my grandparents even made a kitchen out of a hallway between the guest room and my sisters room, i was offered the guest room BUT NO ITS A FUCKING DEATHBED OF MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER, I DONT WANNA HAVE NIGHTMARES D: . Im going to call my ISP to move the router to the Library and have my computer as the center, but my grandmother said she will not get wifi if i do that. Theres a repeater option, i get anotherv Router, make some holes on my grandparents door and glue the router on the wall, i get a networking card, and voila. Move the Router with the Fiber(Wired Connection) Buy a Networking Card and a Router for a Repeater mode(Wireless Connection) Suggestions highly appreciated, thanks for reading anyways. : P

I was planning on building a new itx formfactor PC for Lan party's or when friends wanna come over and play some games (so that they don't have to bring there own PC). I already have some parts but need your help for the other parts. The parts that I already have: -Sapphire HD 6950 -8 gig DDR3 Samsung RAM -600 watt PSU with 80 plus -1TB Seagte HDD -120 gig HyperX fury SSD So the only parts I need to complete the build are CPU, motherboard and case. And the budget is €250~€300. What would you Guys recommend? (Motherboard has to have 7.1 sound card) (Sorry for bad english, I'm Dutch)

So recently I swapped out my ram for a cheap one named Datos (My older one got fried up), and around that time I got a new hard drive as well. The system ran fine for a few days until it started to blue screen every now and then (I run windows 8.1). And the errors were always different, the most recent one was PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and the one earlier one was IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL. I read on some forum that nuking a hdd might fix it and I did with Dariks boot and nuke (DBAN), ran fine for a day and got blue screen again. I swapped out my motherboard for a H81M S2PV and processor for a i3 4150, nuked the system, ran fine then gave me that error again, PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. Oh and I ran my pc with out lan for an hour, no issues but right when I attach my lan it gives me the blue screen, not instantaneously but pretty fast. Any help is appreciated :3

Ok, so here's the deal. I need a LAN port, and my family needs a LAN port from our router. The issue is that there's only one available port in our router (or so I think). It's labelled "PC", while the other ports are labelled "TV". After some searching around I found that these most likely are IPTV ports, but why the hell would I need 3 of these in one place!? Is there a way for me to change the use for these ports? Has anyone else ever encountered this issue? The router is a Tilgin HG2301. Thanks in advance.

Hey all, have a few LAN parties over the year and i have recently got my hands on a bunch of old ps2 slims. Now i know there are LAN games for the consoles but i was wondering if any of you knew any. i have 4 and no multi-taps so 2 per console if that helps! Thanks JJHW149
