Hey everyone! I've got a homelab with 4 DC's and a handful of Servers and VM's. 3 of 4 are 2016 or 2019, but I have one legacy 2008R2 that I use. I'd prefer not to have it open to the internet since it's EOL and not receiving any updates. I prefer 2008R2 and want to keep one until Microsoft completely kills it off (I've got Windows 7 VM's in the same boat). I've gone the easy route of setting a GPO in AD called "Legacy Windows 7 or Older" to set Domain Firewall rules to block Incoming and Outgoing port 80 packets. I'd turn off Windows Firewall to manually grab definition updates and Chrome updates for my internal uses. Is there a better way to have traffic shaping setup? I'd like to have ALL programs blocked unless they are MSE or Immunity. I'm also open to other Windows Server free Antivirus. Hopefully that makes sense... Thank you!

Hey guys im new to here. Just trying to get some. I'm currently using a laptop as my device to become a wifi. Everytime i connect to the internet i need to login to my account. But keep in mind that the account only can login with one device. But, only if after 6 hours of inactivity from using the internet account is being logout. So now, my laptop is becoming the wifi for my smartphone. It's kinda wasteful of energy using my laptop as wifi if im not using my laptop. Im Connecting my internet through cable (RJ45) that are source from the wall. The big question is, can I use any router to share my Internet

I plugged a LAN cable into the repeater and use that. the Repeater is connected via WLAN to the Master router. both routers are up to date everything good cable is also ok. My router is connected via 2.4GHZ to the repeater. now the problem : Antwort von 2a00:1450:4001:821::2003: Zeit=335ms Antwort von 2a00:1450:4001:821::2003: Zeit=1655ms Antwort von 2a00:1450:4001:821::2003: Zeit=2632ms Antwort von 2a00:1450:4001:821::2003: Zeit=1432ms Zeitüberschreitung der Anforderung. Hello guys! It took me three days to troubleshoot my network, but no luck. I hope that somebody will help me. I turned my old laptop into an Ubuntu Server with AdGuard Home running in it. Ubuntu Server - 192.168.254.102 I changed my Primary and Secondary Server on my router. DHCP Primary DNS - 192.168.254.102 (Ubuntu server's static IP address) DHCP Secondary DNS - 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare DNS as a fallback) I already set a static IP address on all of the devices. However, I have an Orange Pi One that is connected via Ethernet cable. I was trying to ping the devices that is connected over WAN from my Orange Pi One, which is connected over LAN. The Orange Pi One can only ping the router, but not the devices connected on the same network. I already installed openssh-server and ufw on my Orange Pi One. It listens to 22/tcp and 22/udp. My Orange Pi One run Armbian Debian 10 Buster xfce desktop. Orange Pi One's IP address - 192.168.254.102 Router's IP address - 192.168.254.254 I did not change my LAN interface on my router, but I updated the DNS server of my Ethernet on my Orange Pi One to 192.168.254.102, which is my Ubuntu Server's IP address. LAN interface - 192.168.254.254 Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0

Hello. So I have this problem/conflict that i need help for. Thanks in Advance THE PROBLEM: I just moved into a new room in my house were the Wi-Fi strength is poor from the main router (Router 1). Therefore, I got a cheap router (Router 2) and drilled some holes to pass an ethernet cable from the main router (Router 1) to the second one (Router 2) But my parents have this tendancy of switching off the main router while I am gaming [:(] which renders the second router useless. So, I am looking for a way to use Router 2 even when Router 1 is switched off. And for above mentioned reasons the method should be passive and thus cannot be turned off. Also when Router 1 is turned on everything should remain working as before. (as other devices connect to Router 1 only) The ISP provided cable is plugged into the WAN of Router 1 and requires PPPoE Username and Password (which I know). The ethernet cable used is plugged into the LAN of Router 1 and WAN of Router 2. Router 1 - D-Link DIR-600M Router 2 - Tenda N3 N150

I have had to downgrade to W10 because I can not get my 2.5 LAN port working on my motherboard, it is not even seen in Device Manager. I have reinstalled Windows, Drivers, Chipset and BIOS but still nothing. As soon as I put W10 back on everything was fine. Any Ideas? I don't know what else to try. Yeah, the situation as stupid as the title sounds. For the longest time, I've had this very old computer that I've been wanting to upgrade. It obviously has no wifi built in, as it was barely 150$ when I bought it. So for the past 6 years, I just got a dongle, (more like a thumb drive) and it worked. { Just to make this clear, I have my router set up in the living room and my PC goes in an adjoining room. } Now I got a new rig, so I put the old PC in the living room with a table. Now obviously rather than using a dongle, I thought why not just just the LAN? I removed the dongle and gave it to a friend. So that's out the window. Now, whenever I log in- I can see that the lan cable is not detected. I log out, and bam! with no physical adjustment it detected the cable. But when I log out, and log in again, it loses its connection. I need to log in again, just to get the connection. this is weird and pls dont tell me this is a network driver issue. I thought ethernet cables didn't need these things?

Hi I've recently moved and the new place has Ethernet outlets in most rooms. I currently have a broadband router plugged in at my office outlet and I have my PC plugged in behind that, this works fine. However, if I plug in my steam link directly to the Ethernet outlet in my living room, it kills the internet everywhere, neither my PC or steam link will have internet. Any ideas ? Is this a router configuration problem ? A low level (2) problem ? Or is what I would like not possible ? Cheers in advanced

I’ve been having a problem with my Pc for a while know. Sometimes the internet connection just goes away and even unplugging the LAN and plugging it back in doesn’t help. The Pc shows that there is still a connection but I can’t open websites or anything. I’ve seen some online tutorials where people say you need to deactivate some power saving features but it doesn’t work for me. Does anyone have a solution to this? (Sorry for bad English, I’m German.)

What could be the cause of this? I figure either bad cable/bad router, not sure if there's anything else I should be checking. I also get packet loss on these test now and then. LEDS are how they should be on my actual port on PC according to the manual. Hello guys! I have an old laptop and I want to turn it into a powerful Firewall (pfsense). I have a GPON router, issued by my ISP. It doesn't have an Ethernet port for the WAN, only LAN ports. Question: Do I still need to buy a USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter that will act as my router's WAN port? Hardware: - Old laptop with one LAN port - GPON Fiber Router with four LAN ports Thanks guys!

Hello. I dont know whether this is the correct forum for this question, but I couldnt find any other suitable spots to post this so here we go... I recently built my first PC and now Im using it with WIFI (onboard wifi chip & antenna) and that hasnt been a problem for almost a full month. In the past few days however, my Wifi decided to act up a lot and I cant seem to find a solution or even someone sharing the same issue anywhere: When playing apex legends with a friend, my WIFI looks, feels and works absolutely normally until at one point my ping shoots to unreasonable extremes (2000+) and becomes super unstable. It then usually fluctuates between normal, somewhat fluid gameplay and this awfull mess of freezeframes and extreme ping. The games internal analytics tell me I get this super high ping and a high packet loss, but the FPS stay above 40 (unchanged) so it isnt my PC hardware most likely. For testing sake I stopped the game entirely when it happened last time and almost immediately after started downloading the new valorant update. I got about 10 to 100kbps of download speed there. Until at some point, it jumped to my regular 7 or 8Mbps.+ When this happens, the router interface shows a completely clogged Wireless-Channel. I will provide a picture that nicely captures the problem. I think it might also be relevant to include that according to my routers interface, all the data being pulled through the Channel is incoming Data. And when I was seeing the download speed normalize, there was a huge wave of outgoing data I have never seen before. It is also important to mention, that this always happens around the same time (10-12pm). Might be a little sooner or later, but thats usually the time around which I play, so thats when I notice it. Maybe it also happens throughout the day and I just dont notice tho. Does anyone maybe have any information about the nature of this issue, the cause of the problem or even a potential solution? I have considered going wired instead of wireless (which I wanted to avoid so far cause I would have to run the cable and that will look ugly in the end). I have also considered testing this with another router, but I do not have access to one. If neccessary, I can always include more information. But due to my minimal knowledge about networking, I do not even know what else to mention here and what to look for while troubleshooting. Some information about my hardwawre: Using the Fritz!Box 7360 and an EasyBox as a repeater (the repeater is connected to the main router with LAN) 2 devices connected by LAN and 3 to 5 phones plus my PC connected Wirelessly 60mbs download, 12mbs upload Router firmware is up to date (updated shortly before the issues started, could that be the problem?) Telekom as my service provider Sorry for the bad image quality. The pictures below show the Channel usage chart, one picture shows what it looks like when the connection shoots up for the first time, two of them how it fluctuates and the last one (with a big green portion in the graph) is when the issues stopped (yesterday, didnt test it since). As mentioned above, I expect this to not be enough or the right information, so feel free to ask for anything that might help identify the issue. Thank you in advance. Any Information is dearly welcomed

I have setup LanCache on a Ubuntu 20.04 system following the documentation on their website and a YouTube tutorial from BattleNonSense. I can see the docker of lancace_monolithic_1 and lancache_dns_1 running with "sudo docker stats". I set a static IP, outside of my routers DHCP range, on the Ubuntu system and set this IP as the DNS in Windows. The .env and docker-compose.yml files are configured to this settings. See below for my config files and screenshots of the IP and DNS settings. ipconfig /flushdns nslookup steam.cache.lancache.net nslookup lancache.steamcontent.com After i tried this in Windows, it still returned Steam's IPs not 192.168.178.10 from the Ubuntu system. I set the DNS in my router before, It didn't change anything and I prefer to set it in Windows. Do i have to do anything related to the ports in my system? I had synergy installed, to share mouse and keyboard, but removed it incase it messed with the network or ports for LanCache. I beleive synergy also uses port 443. Here is the content of my .env file: And my docker-compose.yml

Basically the title. This results in Windows 10 saying the PC has no valid IP and I need to restart my router and modem (this won't fix it, tried it): Fiber Modem -> Archer VR600v -> NETGEAR GS305 LAN Switch -> PC The same, but without the switch on the other hand does work: Fiber Modem -> Archer VR600v -> PC Can someone tell me what I am missing?

Just received my CAT 6 cable today, 25m long. Plugged in laptop first test got 500mbps then I put my laptop back set it up plugged all UBS's in and suddenly now the speed literally capped at 94-95 up and down. I am so disappointed, it work like so awesome when first tried it 500Mbps. Even changing to my 5GHz wifi, I get at least 150mbps down. I tried looking into the Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Properties and changed the speed duplex to 1.0GBps still stuck at 94/95. Im trying to avoid believing the cable broke suddenly cause I barely moved it after the 500Mbps test. Help would be appreciated. Below I have included all related pics, ESPECIALLY THE SPEEDTEST RESULTS.

Hi, I live in a 3 floor household. My parents live in the Ground Floor and I live in the 3 floor. We have a 100Mbps connection. It's in the ground floor. Due to some situations I had to increase the range of our WiFi. So, I got a TP-Link WR820N and a 25 meter CAT 6 Ethernet Cable. Installed them properly. Here comes the problems. 1. I thought it will be the same network or same connection instead of that I had to create a new connection. To be more clear let's say the name of the WiFi in the ground floor is Network 1 I thought I'll be able to use Network 1 but I had to create another called Network 2 in the 3rd floor. So, is there a way to use Network 1 on my room in the third floor ? 2. Though the 2nd router is connected through LAN I only get 60Mbps. Please help.

I've always run the gigabit ethernet connection. But today without reason it defaulted to 100mbps. Any other device works just fine at the maximum speed using the same cable and the same router. So the problem has to be the motherboard (MSI B350 Gaming Pro) I've reinstalled drivers directly from msi page and didn´t do the trick. I've Forced the gigabit connection Full-duplex on the driver and also nothing. The bios is on up to date and so Windows 10 Run out of ideas. Anyone has an idea of what to do? Thanks

Yo, I have a 100mbps internet connection. It has a crappy router but the WiFi range is pretty good. I live in a 3 floor house. My room is in the 3rd Floor. My parents live in the First Floor (Ground Floor). The router is in the first floor. Now I get a little amount of signal in my room. And because of that the speed is low. What can I do to increase the range of my WiFi ? Need help Thank you

This is something that I stumbled upon while trying to transfer files between two laptops with an Ethernet cable. So I configured the ethernet adapters to have different IPs but be within the same subnet; that is PC 1 : 192.168.1.1 PC2 : 192.168.1.2 Subnet ( same for both) : 255.255.255.0 And then after started copying files after tweaking some drive sharing settings and security settings in windows. So these two PCs can communicate through the ethernet cable. But if I turn on the wifi adapters on both laptops, they can communicate through my home wifi too. My router uses DHCP in the range 192.168.0.xxx so from my understanding, an IP conflict isn't supposed to happen. Now if I pause the copying while the wifi adapters are off, and then turn the wifi adapters on, and then resume copying files, the speed drops from around 11MBps ( yes I have a 10 year old laptop with a 100Mbps ethernet adapter) to about 5MBps, which is around the maximum speed of the wifi adapters on one of the laptops. This happens when the ethernet cable is plugged in, and the wifi adapters are turned on, and the laptops can communicate through both ethernet and my home wifi lan. Anyone know why windows chooses the slower link. Is there something I'm missing here?

Not sure if this is a good spot to ask this kind of question but we'll give it a shot anyway. So I have a granny flat/bungalow in my backyard which I'm thinking about moving out into (more space for me as I live with my family and I can be a bit louder) as well as planning to build a new PC. Only problem with this whole plan is that the Wifi speed as trash, and I mean TRASH (Try 5 mbps with constant drop outs on a good day). A wifi range extender doesn't solve the issue, furthermore, I'd prefer to have a LAN connection for my up-and-coming PC. So my questions are: What is the most viable way of getting a LAN connection out there on the same network? Do I need to hook up another router and run a cable all the way into the house into the pre-existing modem or something else? What am I even doing here? Will I have to pay for two networks from my provider? I've done a bit of research but I'm not a tech-savy guy so I honestly have no clue. Any help would be appreciated, Cheers

I am thinking of creating a local network(with no access to internet) for my home to connect smart devices to it(Connecting smart lights, outlets, thermostat, etc. to amazon echo 4th gen. ). Idea is to allow the devices to communicate amongst themselves without letting them communicate to the internet. My 2 questions are 1. Will this work? Will I be able to control other smart devices on the local network using echo if the network doesnt have access to the internet? 2. How do I setup such local network on a netgear AC1750 router? This problem occured a few weeks ago and i haven't been able to fix it. I have tried factory resetting my PC, i have tried downloading the latest drivers and uninstalling them, i have tried using 10+ diffrent LAN cables and i have tried using another switch. All other PCs i've tried works fine even if i use the same switch and LAN cables. My internet seems to be working fine, and my network card seems to be working well too. But for some reason all platforms and browsers seem to be downloading at 5-10mbps max. Plus when i download something, my internet plummits (only on my pc). My ping skyrockets to near 80 (from 3) and i get 60 mbps download and around 2 mbps upload. Please help! most important Specs: CPU Ryzen 7 3700X GPU 3070 MOBO MSI B550 MPG GAMING EDGE WIFI ISP: Altibox (norwegian company) My router is also from Altibox, but im unaware of router specs I have a CAT5 LAN cable. It is capable of 1gbps I use Windows 10 Edit: Internet is 100% fine. My servers show 500 up and 500 down, wich is what I get from ISP. So the problem has something to do with my PC, but only when actually downloading stuff.
