Just finished watching WAN VOD. I know, I am late to the party. I can't help it I get up at 5am for work. Linus said he was going to have a pop up shop at the new labs building. Luke said it would be cool to stream it on FP so people can see real reactions to the screwdrivers and backpacks. OMG I am so excited. I need more details. If I missed anything let me know. I did not hear a date? What we know so far: Overnight LAN party No Parking at venue, must take public transport At New Labs Building Merch Steam Cache Activities Food Trucks Tournaments NO SOCIAL MEDIA (You will live without FB, Insta, Twitter, Reddit) Sponsor Booths 200 seats My Questions Will you need volunteers? Will this be like LTX where tickets drop at x time and first come first serve? VIP Passes? Media passes? Please don't restrict to Canada only. Not exactly a question, but please. How much $$$ Age restricted?

Inspiration: Hello fellow Gamers and Hardware experts, first of all, for those who are interested, the tale: Goal A PC build which allows the laziest 3 - 4 Gamers to attend a LAN-Party while only bringing their mouse and keyboard (and their USB-Headset) I have: a "flexible" budget, but I want to spent es less money as reasonable possible an AMD HD7850, 2x AMD 560, 1x Nvidia 980, therefore I should be good on the required GPUs for now I think I need: a motherboard with at least 4x PCIe 3.0 4x slots and "nice IOMMU groups" which do allow for GPU passthrough 4 cores per Person would be nice, but 3 cores per Person should be fine as well 6+ GiB of RAM per Person What comes to mind: a AMD 1920X build (64x PCIe 3.0; 12 Cores). CPU sells new for 250, motherboards with 4x PCIe 4x start at 300, 32 GiB DDR4 2666 start at 110 some cheap old Intel server hardware? The Questions: Q1) Alternatives to a x399 / 1920X build? Q1a) Cheap Intel LGA 1567/2011 server hardware? Q1b) Maybe even first generation AMD EPIC hardware? (unlikely that they will go out of use any time soon, and way more expensive then 1920X if bought new) Q2) Any personal experiences to tell? Q3) [!] How do I make sure that GPU Passthrough will work? Q4) Any alternatives to unRAID? (I don't care about the $60 license fee if it works) Looking forward to your suggestions ?

Hi, I am looking to buy a monitor case (something like Gator Cases Small Padded LCD Transport Bag) along with a monitor (21" to 24") which would fit in the case. Based on what I am seeing, for the most part, the bag is made to fit the monitor without the stand, although it might fit if I can find a monitor with a compact (minimalist) stand. I might be able to get away with this setup IF the stand can be packed flat or if I can get a third party stand which packs flat that would mount on a VESA. Does anyone know of any monitor that comes with a flat or minimalist stand (I am willing to sacrifice the height adjustment option)? Ideally I would not want to spend more than $200 for the monitor alone. Thank you in advance.

For those that still do LAN Parties (and everyone + anyone that's done em too), what are you go to games? As time goes forward and new games come out, we try to incorporate new(ish) games. Though a longtime staple for us was Battlefield 4. We tried to make things work with BF1, but it just never jived. BFV came out and all sorta lost interest in it. Overwatch has been one that has stuck for a while, as well as RB6: Siege for around half of us. Trackmania Nations Forever has turned into a fun one as well, happy thats free. We've experimented with DOOM, GoW4, Counter-Strike Source, and Starcraft for LAN Parties as well, but they didn't stick. So with that said, what are your guy's favorites? Have any suggestions? We don't have our next one scheduled yet, but hopefully sometime in August. Here are some photos from our recent one this past Saturday. Bunch more photos in the imgur album https://imgur.com/a/qamEIwo

Here's the backstory: my friends and I are planning on doing a Windows 98 LAN party with bare metal installs of the operating system. The rules: Get closest to period-correct you can get while spending the least amount of money No virtual machines; virtual machines are for cowards Bonus points if your hard drive fails during the LAN party. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 with 1.5 GB of RAM (I limited it to 512 MB in system.ini), a 1.8 GHz AMD Turion, an 80 GB IDE hard drive, an IDE CD drive, a 1280x768 display, and an ATI Radeon Xpress 200m 128 mb. I got this for free, and it came out in 2005. So far I'm in pretty good standing. Problem: I can only run in 640x480 with 16 colors and 64 KB of memory and Windows 98 only recognizes it as Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA) Anyone have any solutions that don't involve "run a virtual machine?" Or do I need to start over? I'm 22 and have almost zero TRUE experience with Windows 98, though I do know some DOS commands and I know how to edit stuff in DOS.

Hey all, So I want to start off by saying this is just a thought and probably won't come into fruition, but I still want to hear your thoughts on this idea! =P So I've been watching videos of LAN parties of old and I had a thought: what if I built a small gaming lan centre in the house for friends (if I had any nearby) but instead of playing modern games on 'state-of-the-art' systems, it would be a retro gaming LAN centre complete with Voodoo 2 gaming systems and CRTs. Again, probably won't do it because of the cost (and space) involved, but if that wasn't a problem - what would/do you think? ;)

Hey guys, im looking to get a piece of crap laptop for a lan party as i purely cant be bothered tearing down my rig every few weeks to move it for a weekend im looking for something that can run old as hell games ( farcy 1, battlefield Vietnam, flatout 2, quake 3, unreal tourniment 3, and possibly up to CoD WaW.) so something with about 1gb graphics or more would be nice ) hoping to spend as little as possible and premade maby around $800 NZ tops ($550 us) ive done a bit of looking around but not sure about gpu's or cpu graphic equivalent ive been looking at some of the junkers on https://www.harveynorman.co.nz/computers/laptops/?subcats=Y&features_hash=V143&sort_by=price&sort_order=asc any advice? accept stop being a lazy sod and just move my pc? thanks.

Case- Inwin - A1 (Black) Mini ITX Tower Case w/600W Power Supply Processor- AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7GHz 8-Core Processor Ram- Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Storage- Western Digital - Black NVMe 500GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive and a 3TB Barracuda Motherboard- Asus - ROG STRIX X470-I GAMING Mini ITX AM4 Video Card- Open to Recommendations Power supply- a proprietary supply that came with the case -.- Systems aim is for high-end gaming, i have an HTC vive i bring over to friends houses and this small form factor is the reason I'm building this. Monitor- usually a 43-inch flat screen in my room which is at 1920x1080 which is eh but on the go at LAN parties its usually any screen i can find and then the HTC vive headset. 4. Peripherals- all of these are dealt with, Top of the line Corsair keyboard and mouse for better or for worse. 5. Why are you upgrading? I'm upgrading because my arms hurt from lugging my micro atx build to my friends house for lan parties. This is my previous build and i made the mistake of falling in love with the case and found out how heavy it was when it was too late.https://pcpartpicker.com/b/FQm8TW My location is The USA if specifically needed ohio, and my budget is around 1000 dollars which is not really important since im really patient and wait for everything to go on sale one at a time and second I have purchased a lot of things already. What i'm posting specifically about its all about this case i love/hate. It looks great but the power supply is a problem ill deal with by measuring cables and getting a small form factor power supply to replace it. What really is getting in my way and I don't have a lot of knowledge in is RGB headers. This case has a 12v rgb addressable strip in its base and I have no idea about which AM4 motherboards actually have 12v rgb headers on it. I kinda have just gone with the " the most expensive motherboard in this form factor must have it right?" I've been going through Amazon and Newegg specs pages but I can't find anything saying 12v rgb at all. I've heard you can damage rgb items if you use the wrong voltage type items so I'm kinda frozen up on this, help! Second recommendation on gpu because this RTX stuff got me all confused on should I go for that or go for cheaper now 10 series or maybe a amd 64 card. Any advice would be amazing!

So i have a micro atx build already but I find myself sore and tired after heading to multiple LAN parties to let people try out my HTC vive. I was thinking of my second computer build going full itx and having it be portable enough to fit in a duffle bag or backpack if possible. Only thing is I love cable managing and being able to look at all the cool hardware inside my case(another reason to want itx is to challenge my cable management skills). Not planning anything too crazy really like a custom water cooling loop or anything so I wanted to get the input on any amazing itx case's anybody on here would recommend. If possible I would like to not go external power block if possible but if there is a really sexy case that just can't fit a PSU inside I can work with that. - one of the cases i was liking alot was the inwin a1 because i have a corsair chi charging mouse but it is constantly out of stock -.-

I was giving this some thought for when friends come round. I need some suggestions on how to set this up? I was thinking of Borderlands 2 but we have our own monitors and we play online. Other games we could play are Destiny 2 and Gears of War 4 etc. How would I set this up?

Hi all! Threw together a video of some footage of our CG Spring LAN party from 2017 last night and figured i'd come and share. But you know what? lets all share! LAN parties are a bit of a lost art IMO and outside of major events, you never really hear of them anymore. I think its a great way to get friends together, ogle eachother's builds, talk about like-minded interests, and have alot of fun. Also pretty motivating to "make your rig look badass" and stuff too. During this 2017 Spring one, we had a buddy who just got a new cooler for his i7-2600k in attendance who had never OC'd...and as some of you might know, that CPU is a legendary overclocker so we threw on a quick and dirty 4.2ghz OC at 1.2v right on the spot, threw Aida64 at it, and to this day its rock solid. He need to take it further, especially now that hes upgraded his cooler again to an h7 quad lumi! Sandy Bridge FTW! Who all still LAN Parties? What kinda stories you all got? (the vid link/post beneath this is our LAN party playlist, feel free to go through it!) <link removed>

Hi all I am hosting my very first LAN Party ever 5 persons are attending (6 if I count myself) One is 7 years old another is 12 and the other four are are 15 years old (I am 15 also) Though the best system in the event will be mine (Specs are listed in the System Section) (None of us is a true PCMR we just use whatever hardware we can afford) We have 4 PCs, 1 Laptop and a PS4 Networking and Power are already managed Games are not a problem either I just don't know how can I possibly part out the event so it doesn't turn into total chaos Any advises or Ideas are welcome PS(es): This is my very first post so please take it easy on me Also nothing is time or date specific yet Actually if everything is goes according to plans the event should be held some time in January 2018 LOL (I know I am quite pre-empting things) Thank you

I'm looking to have an Xbox 360 LAN Party. I'm not usre on what games to play. There are 3 Xboxs between 5-6 Players. Only a few of the players will have Xbox Live Gold, the rest silver, so try to keep it just to System Link. A few I have so far: Halo 3 Halo 4 Halo Reach Call of Duty: Black Ops II Gears of War 3 Call of Duty 4 MW

Anyone in the LA area looking for a LAN event close by? Me and a buddy of mine are hosting one in Los Angeles this Sunday and are looking for attendees. We're going to have food/drinks, activities, courses, and obviously, a LAN party later in the evening. Some games that we will be playing are Garrysmod, CS:GO, and Minecraft. Those are, at least, the games that will be hosted locally. If we manage to get enough people, this event will be happening monthly. Other games like LOL are welcomed, but we will not have servers hosted for them. The event is open to people all ages. All other information is available here. See you there!

Me and a couple friends decided we would host a lan event amongst the 8 of us we have it all planned apart that we do not know if we need a 12 port switch or 8 we will be playing black ops 3 on ps4s but ive been doing some research on whether we will need to connect the switch to a router if so then we would need a switch with more than 8 ports

First time posting, not sure if this is where i should post it but i got a question So i have 18 machines in my center and each time there is an update of steam games, league of legends, battle.net games i have to update each computer individually which consumes a LOT of time, and bandwith. So my question is, what would be the best solution to have 1 computer updated, and the rest of the PC's update from it automatically via LAN?? software with file synch?? iSCSI?? can NAS do this?? Thank you so much in advance for answering this ! (I live in Ecuador so the bandwidth is not that great, its takes a lot of time to update all machines individually)

Hi there LTT community! After watching a few videos of various LAN parties, I thought it would be a good idea to host a LAN party of about 100 people to bring our small community together, etc. I have an average understanding of networking, and I think I should have at least part of the knowledge to setup a network infrastructure, at least the physical side of things. I have a few venues that I'm keeping my eye out for, and have searched up places to hire 6ft desks, fold-able chairs, etc. I am here to ask how to setup a network for 100 people, fully. Along with power systems, as I'm pretty sure I'll need external power sources to power 100 PCs under load! Any advice/help/tips is/are welcome! Many thanks, Blu
