Hey guys, Looking for a little advice on a NON-gaming laptop, and unfortunately I can't seem to find much on one of the CPUs because it's looking like it's really new. Here's the backstory: I'm looking for a lightweight (3 lbs goal) laptop/ultrabook that I can use for work and/or travel. I'm a software dev, but almost all of my compiling happens server-side so I don't need the muscle in the laptop to handle that, other than an occasional side-project in Android Studio. I had narrowed it down to the Razor Blade Stealth or the Venom Blackbook Zero 13 because they both had 8 ram, i5 or greater muscle, met my weight goal (Venom was 3.08 lbs, close enough) and a decent brand/experience. I was trying to decide which one when I saw two other options cross my desk. The X1 Carbon 4th gen swept in and even though it was pretty boring looking, I was sold on the fact that it was only 100 bucks more, but rocked a 14.0 inch screen (.7 larger than the Venom) and weighed in at 2.6 lbs. It also ran (at low end specs) with an i5 6200U. Then I saw Venom's answer, the Blackbook Zero 14. They dropped their second drive to save weight, I'm guessing, and now the're staying at 3.08 lbs carrying a 14.1 inch screen, nice battery life, and pretty solid (nothing insane) specs. This unit though comes with Kaby Lake mobile CPUs rather than Skylake, and running "Y" series rather than "U". the i5 option seems to be the 7Y57. Now skipping past how I'm really starting to hate the change from "m" series to call them "Y series i5" CPUS (to prevent confusion?? you mean it's LESS confusing to call different classes of CPUS the same thing?) I am having a hell of a time finding reviews/benchmarks with the two side by side. Using intel's site I can compare them, spec to spec, but I've not used/seen a CPU with such a huge base/turbo range until the Kaby Lake and I'm worried if that much of a difference is going to kill my experience. To the meat of the question: Sharing some points I THINK are key: They both have 2 cores, 4 threads, and ironicly the exact same MSRP. The 6200U has 3MB cache (vs the Kaby's 4) The 6200U has a base clock of 2.3 GHz, which is notably stronger than the 1.2 from the 7Y57, but the 6200U Turbo Max is only 2.8GHz, which is significantly lower than the 3.3 in the 7Y57. This is where I'm becoming unsure. The Venom runs fanless and I'm not sure what kind of load will cause the chip to throttle down to 1.2. If I try and run an android emulator and compile a game I'm writing onto it, will it start screaming then fall off a cliff into sub 1.5 GHz land? Will hosting a GoToMeeting and screensharing become molasses, or can it hold up? I'm looking forward to any suggestions/advice you could offer.

im building a brand new computer and it says im going to need a bios update to run the i5 7600k on a H110M motherboard but i dont have a old 1151 processor here are my parts https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FLB8xY so will the i5 7600k work with this motherboard just fine out of the box any response appreciated -
Intel Skull Canyon Nuc has been out for like half a year now, and I'm planning to buy one since day one. Now I finally have enough money for everything but is it still worth buying? There're three major concerns of mine: 1. Kaby Lake is out, and although it's not much improved performance wise but it's considered more efficient (I heard so), therefore there will be less heat, which is fantastic for small form factor machines like Nucs; 2.Razer Core's price hasn't really come down, it's still expensive. So adding an external graphics card to the Nuc will still cost a lot, making it less of a value compares to something like an ITX build; 3.Nuc really doesn't seem repairable. So after 1 year of use, how can I clean out the dust and maybe redo the thermal paste and such? (I don't really know so please enlighten me on this one); Any help would be much appreciated!

I saw on awesome hardware's (Bitwit) latest tech talk, they showed a full review of the i7 7700k as well as benchmarks and OC frequencies/voltages. the review showed that the i7 7700k runs at 4.5ghz base clock out of the box and was overclocked on an AIO watercooler to 5.1ghz at a whopping 1.464 volts. z270 also is going to carry 30 hsio lanes, 24 pcie lanes, and a max of 14 usb ports (max 10 usb 3.0 ports). What are your thoughts on this guys/girls/anything-in-betweens?

As mentioned in the title, I've already purchased a Z170 Asus Pro Gaming motherboard and it is impossible for me to change to a Z270 at the moment. So I have yet to purchase a chipset but which one should I go for? I was initially planning to buy the i5-6600k chip. I don't mind the little extra for Kaby Lake but can the Z170 support all the new features of it or I should just go with the Skylake. P.S. I am fully aware that I need an existing chip for the BIOS update. Will figure something out. -
So will the 6th gen Mobos drop in price because of the launch of the Kaby Lake chips?

I currently have a really crappy skylake i5 that i cant overclock because chipset and i want an upgrade from it. should i go skylake with a 6600k/6700k or kaby lake with a 7600k/7700k? I also cant overclock because my chipset doesnt support it so i have to rely on base speeds and turbo boost

I just bought an Asus Pro Gaming Z170, and now kaby lake is out. In my area it is just USD 15 difference, so I don't mind at all. But which is the more logical choice god help me.

So anyways, by the end of this month I was planning to build a computer with a Z170 and I5 6600K but since the I5 7600K released today I was looking forward to buying it but I have a couple of questions in mind How long will I have to wait to purchase it? And how long will I have to wait for the Z270 to release and for the MSI M7 version and will the price difference be too great from it's predecessor? And lastly is it really worth for me to wait "X" time on the new motherboard? Ty beforehand <3

EDIT: Release date of Jan, 5th (Today) has put the i7-7700k back on amazon! Though it is now 379US instead of the 350US I snagged it for when the product got accidentally posted. Also, the package has arrived at my local post office, and will hopefully arrive today without any other problems! Thanks to everyone who read this already. EDIT AGAIN: Amazon lowered it from 379 to 350 again! EDIT EDIT AGAIN: Package arrived. Day of release essentially, thanks Amazon. After 1 day of Amazon offering Kaby Lake processors, they removed the product page. But not before I could snag one! Though, I am a bit concerned as it seems Amazon has not shipped the package yet... Hopefully everything will end up OK, but I thought it would be fun to share on here. Currently I'm rocking a solid i5-3440 on an old ASUS board. I'm looking at upgrading it to match my GTX 1070 but I'm not sure whether I should jump right now onto the i5-7600K with Z170 motherboard, or wait for AMD Ryzen and go with that. I'm in no hurry to upgrade, but definitely interested in what your thoughts are for upgrades.

So I think I'm soon going to get a brand-new, state-of-the-art laptop which has a Kaby Lake mobile processor in it. But in the official statement, the manufacturer said the only Windows operating system you can install and use is Windows 10. I can install Windows Server 2016 because I can legally get the license for free, but since I can also get a Windows 8.1 Embedded Industry Pro license, I want to install the latter. So.... in conclusion, can I install and use Windows 8.1 on Kaby Lake-based system?

Finnish tech news site io-tech.fi has got some weird results testing the new Core i7-7700K against Intels previous processors. They tested Kaby Lake against Skylake clock-to-clock like many other news sites, but included also Sandybridge, Ivy Bridge and Haswell in the testing. All processors were run at 4.0 GHz and with 2400 MHz memory speed (except Sandybridge which only supports 2133 MHz). In synthetic benchmarks and rendering the results were as expected: Kaby Lake and Skylake scored even but otherwise performance had improved slightly by every generation. Kaby Lake beat Sandybridge by around 25-30% depending on the test. When tested in games with GTX 1080 at 1080p the results don't seem to make any sense however. The frame rates were measured with OCAT. In Battlefield 1 (DX12) Ivy Bridge beat all the others by 12 fps despite several re-runs. With Kaby Lake and Skylake the test hitched in couple of places resulting in noticeable drop in fps. Ivy Bridge suffered from the same behavior, but not in the same level. In Gears of war: Warhammer (DX12) and Civilization VI AI Benchmark (DX12) Kaby Lake and Skylake beat Ivy Bridge but Haswell rose to the top. In GTA V (DX11) Haswell and Ivy Bridge were on top of Kaby Lake and Skylake. Take this how you will. At least it seems that the IPC improvements don't really transfer to games. A small increase in clock speed would lift any one of the processors to the top. Tell me if you liked me to translate more of the article to English. The testing methology in more detail for example. Just upgraded my system to kaby lake and I keep getting error code 62. According to the mobo manual, 62 is "Installation of the PCH runtime services". I googled solutions for this code which only concluded to take out the gpu and run onboard graphics. I've tried this and it hasn't helped at all. I know that I have to do a bios update for kaby lake, but I can't get it to post, and therefore I can't get into the bios to update it. As far as I know, there is no way that I can update it without getting into the bios. I know that I can stick a skylake cpu into it and update it, but are there anyother options and will updating it even fix the error? Specs: i7-7700k Gigabyte z107x designare Pny anarchy 16gb ram Evga Geforce gtx 1070 FTW

So I'm building a comp for the first time in 20 years... blew my money on the 7700K, an ASRock z270 Extreme4, and 2x8 DDR4 corsair vengeance led. So so I need a GPU that will wok well but on a budget. Ideas? looking for SSD or HDD and power supply advice as well.

Okey guys, so in my previous thread, I found a leaked i7 7700k on ncix, and just right now, they've put up the i5-7600k too. The price of the 7600k is $374.21 CAD or $280 USD. The 6600k is going for $310 CAD, which means that theres a price gap of 64 USD to the i5 7600k. Holy crap, that's alot of dollars for no IPC-improvements. I'll attach a picture as usual. WHat do you think of the price? Also the clock it's running at?

Hi, I'm wondering if the Intel Core i7-7700K is compatible with the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO ALPHA motherboard, which is a Z170 motherboard and has a LGA1151 CPU socket. I know that the Intel Core i7-6700K is compatible.

Intel is rumoured to release the first i3 K SKU with Kaby Lake, the i3 7350K. It has a base clock of 4.2GHz, 4MB L3 Cache, 2C/4T and an unlocked multiplier. It seems that intel is preparing against AMDs Zen "SR3" CPUs. Also it's supposed to cost around 180USD. Source: Klick me
