Hey guys! I am exhausted from searching the web for an answer, so I hope asking around here gets me to the solution. My System: Pentium G4560 Kaby Lake Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz MSI B250 PC MATE MSI GTX970 My Problem: While upgrading my rig I got a sweet deal on the RAM, which is obviously overkill for my system. Yet it won´t run at the boards max speed which is 2400 iirc. I tried everything in the UEFI and even some MSI tools. Do you have any ideas?

So I'm in a little pickle right now so i'm torn between upgrading to an INTEL I7-7700K from the RYZEN 5 1600 can you help and i don't want to upgrade to ZEN+ or Coffee Lake the only reason i chose the I7 cuz a friend is selling it for cheap

Hey guys I got a great deal on an Alienware 17 R4 a few days ago. This is the 7700hq/GTX 1070 config. But I'm considering returning it and getting something with an 8750h/GTX 1060 instead for around the same price. Maybe the Alienware 17 R5. I'm thinking you could always upgrade the GPU later with the Graphics Amplifier external GPU. But CPU is soldered on MOBO so no upgrade ever. So I guess my question is, which of these will be better for gaming over the next 2-3 years? Should I keep my 17 R4 with the 7700hq/1070 or get something with an 8750h/GTX 1060 for the same price? -
I have an Intel G4620 CPU on Asrock B250 Motherboard with G.Skill Ripjaws V 8GB 2400-DDR4 single module ram and when running CPU-Z it keeps telling me that I am only clocked at 2133mhz. I HAVE enabled XMP profile in BIOS and changed detection setting from Auto to 2400 but still no luck. Yooo. So as I'm still waiting on my GPU RMA (it's been a month now) I'm contemplating to switch to a 2400G just to improve my gaming performance. In terms of CPU-only power, is this a downgrade from my i5-7500? Or more of a sidegrade?

So let's try this again shall we? So earlier I had posted about a potential budget build with Ryzen 5 and a 1050ti. Well as with building a 1st PC (I suppose) you come up with a million different build layouts BEFORE you decide on parts. Well I am back with a Intel build. Let me know what you guys think below and if this is a "future proof" build up to at least 2-3 years. My Parts List (Built on NEWEGG 1st than transferred to PCPartsPicker): <$600 Build The Parts not shown on PCPartsPicker are a Rosewill Case Fan Splitter at $8 (the case i choose has 3 fans in it. x1 exhaust/x2 Intake on front. **Not sure if the MOBO i chose supports just 2 case fans or can support 3 without a splitter??**), The CASE is a DIYPC Jax12-W ATX/Micro ATX Mid Tower for $37. I DO PLAN on upgrading to an actual monitor in the next few months but for right now I have a small 720p 19" TV that I use for console gaming that has a resolution of 1366x768. Monitor Let me know what you think. $600 IS MY MAX. The total of this build with no newegg warranties, Mail In Rebate, and Shipping is currently $550-560. -
Two years after the initial issues regarding mounting pressures of big air coolers with the then new Sky Lake CPUs the issues celebrate a revival as it seems. German tech magazine "PC Games Hardware" reported a serious issue with Skylake system that's just over two years old and was assembled by German blogger Bjoern Olausson. Equipped with an i7 6700k and the Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 died a mysterious death – mysterious until the "autopsy" revealed serious deformations on the CPU's substrate. Olausson reported that his system has never been moved around and was therefore never exposed to sudden movements PC Games Hardware published further tests unrelated to that specific incident in their July and September issues and published a mounting force table (see original article at PC Games Hardware). Test results revealed that most coolers exceeded Intel's specs for static mounting forces (222 N) by quite a margin (maxium value of still produced cooler was 540 N) though Intel's limit for dynamic forces as in sudden shocks and other momentary spikes was not exceeded (712N). The Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 3 was measured with a mounting force of 380 N. The question remains if the excessive mounting forces of large air cooler are or at least can still be an issue. Interesting enough: even some AiO might exceed Intel's spec of static mounting forces (i.e. Cooler Master Master Liquid 240 with ~240 N). Maybe the issue is not fully resolved and large air coolers might still damage CPUs in the long run which could be an issue regarding RMA requests as well. Hi, I am new at making PC's and I am looking at making my first build. Though it is a little overkill for a first build I have decided to use a i7, and recently on a forum page I had someone tell me that the Z270 chipset is outdated, but I think he is incorrect with this statement. Just to make sure I wanted some more opinions about this, feed back is much appreciated since I am just a noob, Thanks!

So I'm going to purchase a laptop in a few hours, and what I will buy is the 'gram' from LG. LG released the 7th generation model - which, I mean, has 7th gen Intel processor in it - about a year ago, and after a simple research, I found out that they recently released the new version of the laptop including brand-new 8th gen cores. As many of you already know, 7th gen CPUs all have 2 physical cores and 4 logical cores, and 8th gen CPUs have 4 physical cores and 8 logical ones, although its base clock is far lower than the previous generation SKUs. So what I'm thinking of is the single core performance; although multi-core performance is getting more and more important, I think what I need is a better single core performance since my usage will be quite simple; productivity applications such as Microsoft Word, and programming tools like Visual Studio, and no or little & light games. What do you guys think? Still looking for the newer generation will be a good choice? As the title suggests, I am planning to build my first computer in the next few days (I have built a PC before so I have experience, this is just the first time it will be mine). At first I was planning to purchase an 8700k for the wonderful single and multi-threaded performance, but it is incredibly expensive ($420 at Microcenter in MN) and is usually out of stock, so I decided to buy either Kaby Lake or Ryzen 7. I intend to game at 1440p (I hope to get a 1440p 144hz Gsync monitor in the future) on a GTX 1080 Ti and will also be producing content for Youtube (likely streaming as well) and want to be able to multitask well in general. I understand that the 7700k is superior in games but falls short of the 1700x for tasks that can benefit from many threads. However, because the 1700x is so cheap right now ($230 at Microcenter) and the difference in FPS between the 1700x and 7700k is less significant in 1440p, I'm leaning towards the 1700x. From my research I found a lot of fanboys for both team red and team blue, so I'd like some realistic input if at all possible. Assuming I purchased the 1700x, is this a good motherboard? Would I likely achieve a 4.0 GHz OC? Or how about this memory? I'm looking for low profile RAM so it will fit under my Noctua cooler. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I recently finished a build for my grandpa, but he refuses to upgrade his windows from xp to a newer version. When i plug in his HDD to the new build in order to move the OS and programs onto the new SSD and try to boot from the HDD the computer goes into an infinite reboot loop and boots normally from a windows 10 usb. The specs are Gigabyte - GA-Z270M-D3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard 8gb DDR4 240gb 2.5in 850 evo ssd Corsair 450W 80+ Bronze Audigy 2 sound blaster Kabylake I5 740 The Hdd is running widows xp here is the BDOS screen Any help would be appreciated

Hi, I recently finshed building my gaming rig. Specs: i7-7700k MSI Z270 A PRO 16GB Ballistix DDR4 2400 Cryorig H7 Cooler So, here is the story, I am an animator and video editor and I need to sqeeze as much speed as I can out of my cpu. Currently I'm running at 4.8GHz with max temps during stress test at 75C. So my question is: If I upgrade my cooling to a corsair H100, can I reach 5.2GHz on all cores? Also another quick qestion, should I just put distilled water in my liquid cooler? Or should I put speical coolent in it(ex.thermaltake c1000 coolant). Hope you guys can help me!

I have a Z170 motherboard and a Skylake i7 6700 NON-K CPU. Since I'm not planning to upgrade my motherboard anytime soon, is it wise to upgrade to a pre-owned i7 7700K? Let's say I can get a 4.8GHz overclock on that new CPU, the performance increase will be (4*4.8)/(4*3.7)*100%-1=29.7% That's huge! So, should I? Thanks. -
I am looking to upgrade my cpu/motherboard within the next coming months and I can't decide between Ryzen 7 1700x and the new Coffee Lake i7 8700k. I will be mostly gaming at 1080p with a 144hz refresh rate monitor on a gtx 1060, but I plan on picking up my video editing again once my i5 is out of the picture (took hours to export small videos). I will also be programming heavily within the next 1-2 years on the computer along with some light Photoshop. I'm currently leaning towards Ryzen because of video editing and I wont take a large hit on gaming with Ryzen ( I plan to overclock with a fractal design Celsius s36). Also my price range is around 500 - 550 for both CPU and motherboard, as I have to get a new cooler and ram as well. Games: Shadow of War Battlefield 1 Battlefront 2 GTA V Doom 7 Days to die Minecraft Shadow of Mordor Fallout 4 Sniper Elite 3 and 4

Hey I am building a system for my Parents and they still have windows 7 on their old PC. And they dont want to change to windows 10. My problem is the dickmove Microsoft did with stopping support for Win 7 on Kaby lake CPUs. Are the only two solutions to either stick with older hardware like Haswell to be sure windows 7 works at least until 2020 when they kill it ultimatly or convincing my parents to switch to win 10? The Problem is i live like 300-400 kilometers away from my parents and cant just come over to troubleshoot some issue (sadly) so i need a system which has little issues to begin with. Bloody well knew it, Intel won't allow Kaby Lake processors to work on Z370 motherboards even though they can. Also Z370 will only support Covfefe and nothing else. So Cannon Lake or Ice Lake or whatever the next one is because honestly I don't even know which is switch anymore, won't work on Z370. So if you're planning on getting Covfefe do yourself a favor and get a Z390 motherboard which according to some rumors that I can't find right now, I'm sure someone will post them if they can or want to, will support Covfefe and whatever the next one is. I want to build 3d render engine with asus z170-ws 4 gtx 1050ti the motherboard does have 4 pci-e slot but the cpu just only have 16 pci-e lane I do not need sli, can I run 4x,4x,4x,4x 4 gtx 1050ti configuration?

I just recent got a 980ti since I decided I wanted to upgrade my computer as the GTX 770 and R9 270x were unable to keep up with PUBG and other new demanding titles. I would prefer something with more than 4 cores to be able to potentially handle streaming while gaming. Also must be mITX (no Intel X99/X299) since I intend to then save up for an evolv shift and a sfx psu. Should I wait for coffee lake or go for Ryzen? The conflict is that I may be able to get a very good price on Intel chips since I have a friend who has employee discounts.
