So iBUYPOWER has program called optiboost (shit but fitting name I guess) where it instead of just rebranding laptops (cough cough what it does with MSI laptops cough cough) or reselling them, it takes the laptop and "upgrades" it in some way (which is accompanied by some painful and unnecessary branding). This involves giving things faster RAM, more storage, overclocking the CPU/GPU (which is stupid in a laptop imho) and other things that can make you a L33T H4X0R G4M3R. This is the promotion video for this. (It's really stupid/cringeworthy/bad/dubstep-irific)

So my mates and I have been trying to switch from Skype to Razer Comms to get group voicechatting working. i have no idea how it works. We all joined one group and pressed the headset button, but we hear nothing. Chatting works, but the voicechat doesn't. 1v1 voice chat doesn't work either. Any ideas to get it working?

Today, I noticed that YouTube has implemented a minor design change to the video player page thing and I figured that it wasn't big enough to go in the Tech News section but big enough to deserve a topic about it. (Mods: If this belongs in Tech News/Reviews, please move it there) Changes (That I've noticed): Each thing on the page has its own box (G+ style) Like/Dislike buttons moved next to their respective amounts under the view count "Add to," "Share," "More" buttons moved under Channel name/subscribe button Above mentioned things are now grey instead of black Above mentioned things as well as video title is put in its own box "Share," "Embed," and "Email" options appear in a separate box when "Share" is clicked Upload date, description, category, and other video info is moved to its own box Comments section moved to its own box Suggestions in their own box Video player in its own border-less box Here is a screenshot I took of the subtly changed interface IMO, these changes are minimal enough to not make people mad and clean up the interface. I like the changed placement of the Like/Dislike buttons and the "Add to," "Share," "More" buttons as well as the use of boxes for each element of the page. Let me know what you think of it in the poll! Edit: Added poll

If you have, Is it a good brand? Link : http://www.directron.com/rspi750acag.html ------ I'm still looking for a replacment power supply due to my 1600w Lepa restarting my computer when it's under load. Example : Running Valley or Heaven the system will restart but running a game ( Euro Truck Sim 2 ) it worked fine. **Before you say that's a potatoe game, It was the only game the was quick to download and test** ------ The budget for a new power supply is between $100 - $150. I would prefer it to be below $150 if possible. Some people said a 750w is enough and some people said 850w is what I need. So let me know what you guys would recommend at my budget. Keep in mind I do plan to have the 8350 overclocked. Thanks!

Hey guys, I just got done playing "To the moon" (took me about 4 hours) and beat it. This is by far the best visual novel indie game I've ever played. If you love story, this is your game. If you love amazing sound tracks, this is your game. If you love psychology and exploration of relationships and memories, this is your game. It has quite a few puzzles in it which are fun on their own. The game has tons of awesome mentionings of pop culture (DBZ, Street Fighter, Doctor Who) and the main characters are just funny. It's $10 (you can usually find deals at places like Steam or gog), but it's worth every penny. I'm buying the sound track (50% of the proceeds go to charity). While it is short (as I said, beat it in 4 hours or so), every single moment was entertaining. I highly highly recommend this game for anyone who loves good stories, music, humor, pop culture references, and diving into the question of what we are as humans (philosophical) and what the events in our lives can mean for our future. If you enjoyed Cloud Atlas (as I did), this game is in this genre of awesomeness. Sans the violence/action. Anyway, I could go on about this for pages but I'll let it speak for itself. Watch the trailer if you want a taste of all this game has to offer.

So I'm currently a Sophomore in high school in the states, and I was just wondering if anyone could help answer some of the many questions I have: 1. I definitely want to go into a techy field of some sort. Maybe designing hardware? Maybe a sysadmin? IT consultant/repair? I know it's going to be subjective but what would you recommend for someone like me? Does anyone have experience in one of these fields and have feedback? 2. What kind of education do I need for something like this? What degree should I get? My parents aren't giving me much of a choice besides college. Is there an extra amount of math/science that I need to take for it? I'm looking at AP classes for the next two years and I know I want to take AP English (I really like writing, though I'd like to pursue something in tech more and keep that on side and/or just as a hobby), and I think I might take AP Science as well. My school has a limited but at least existent computer science course so I will obviously take that, though I imagine it won't be much I don't already know. But should I be taking AP math? I really don't like math because it's just a ton of work to learn stuff that at this point is really no longer practical unless I want to become an engineer or mathematician or something. At least it seems that way. 3. What colleges in my general area (U.S. Midwest) are good for this sort of thing? I live in Colorado and would rather not go out of state, and I've heard that UC Colorado Springs is good for that kind of thing. Also looking at possibly CU or DU. 4. The number one advice I always get when I ask about what I can do for getting a job/ my future after college is GET EXPERIENCE. So in the tech field, what does this look like? Sadly I don't live in California so it seems like there aren't that many opportunities just floating around for this kind of thing. So what kind of experience do I want? Would working at my local Microcenter when I'm old enough count for anything? Where and when can and should I get this experience I'll need? Are there college programs that give you hands on experience with hardware? Do companies hiring people care if you say "yeah I fiddle around with stuff a lot, built my own computer"? Okay well that was quite a wall of text, thank you to anyone who even reads that, let alone responds.

Hi, I'm sorry if I'm posting this on the wrong category... I was gonna post it on the laptop category but I thought that the opinions of the people here would be more valuable... I'm gonna be an IT freshman this March and was looking for a laptop... I don't know what I should be prioritizing... 1. Are "programming" programs cpu or gpu intensive? 2. How much ram do I realistically need? 3. Is storage size irrelevant? 4. Can I use a chromebook? (Do Windows apps work on chromebooks?) 5. Will I ever get a girlfriend? Any input will be appreciated... Also if you could recommend a laptop that would be nice... Budget is around 500 freedom pebbles... Sorry if my English is bad... England is not my city...

Is it worth it to buy a PCI-E 4x SSD instead of a SATA 3 SSD? In this particular instance, it stands between the Samsung 120 GB 840 Series and the OCZ Revodrive 110 GB. They have the same price, is there any performance increase?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with the question what is the difference between the Intel Core i5-4440 and the 4460. Thanks. Also would the i5-4440 paired with the AMD R9 280 be able to run GTAV and The Wicher 3 at good settings?

Just to give you some background on my situation, I'm a Computer Systems Officer at my states Fire Service, we are currently the only fire service in the country that completely self-manage everything and that aren't managed by the Country Fire Authority. We are in the process of merging all corporate services (such as IT/finance/Information and records/etc.) with the state Police to create an "all in one emergency services" fleet to make things run more efficiently. Currently we are hosting our own exchange servers but are being forced to move to a "whole of government solution", so basically we have to pay someone else to host the things we have been hosting for the last 10 years for free (minus server licenses)... Awesome, our budget was already small enough. In moving to this new whole of government service we are having to scrap "Public Folders", a way in which we would host calendars used across the state simply because yes, they can host that for us but they are unsure on how to bill it. Fun times, we have to attempt to migrate an entire states worth of data from one place to another because we are being forced to have our stuff hosted by someone else that doesn't know how to charge us for services so instead says we can't have them. I started the migration yesterday and ended up working overtime, leaving work at approximately 11pm (12 1/2 hour day), only to come into work this morning and have people calling up asking why they can no longer get to the calendars they usually look at. In this entire process multiple e-mails have been sent to all users explaining what is happening and how it affects them (keep in mind this was all written in "user language" and not tech "mumbojumbo"). I even had a guy call up and try to abuse me over the phone due to "his stuff isn't there anymore", after showing him where the new calendar with all the old calendar data is he stated "its still not f****** there!" to which i checked all his log files, he was using an entirely different calendar to what he originally stated... the joy. I need advice on how to talk to some of these users who ring up and abuse people because they f***ed up and havn't read any of the high urgency marked emails, i'm not entirely sure on how to exactly word why we had to do it due it being more "IT talk" orientated. halp

Hi everyone, I made this thread for people to share stories of bad IT people at their school or workplace. My school, for some stupid reason, buys copies of Windows 7 Professional for EVERY SINGLE COMPUTER. They leave them idling for 95% of the time, and only ~8 of the PCs are actually used for content creation (graphic design lab). The others could be replaced with RPis, for all the use they get. Rather than running Folding at Home, everyone gets their own school account, and the PCs are kept logged out, so nothing can run in the meantime. Our Computer Class is an absolute joke. It is great for learning to touch type (I'll give them that), but every single thing I learned was self-taught. After 5 years of class, nobody has been taught the difference between a HDD and an SSD, a bit vs. a byte, or that Linux even exists! We spend half the year learning about Internet safety (Don't get kidnapped by some random person you met online, kids!), and the other half doing ridiculous tasks in Photoshop (which we relearn if we work on the yearbook). Rather than use the new LibreOffice, we are forced to use MS Office 2003, which works fine, but has a different UI from the newer versions and is obviously not forwards-compatible with the documents we write at home. Luckily, I just graduated from that school, and I'm looking forward to taking Programming classes at my new school. Sorry for the rant, and share your stories below :)

       For those that lives in Canada, you ought to know that we are limited in term of the amount of Internet Service Provider (ISP) we can choose from. BELL and ROGERS are pretty much the two dominant ISP in this country. We are paying insanely high price for our internet and cable TV services (Cellular phone services too, but let's not get into that), and we even have the bandwidth limit that limits us to transfer a certain amount of GB per month before being charge extra (http://www.bell.ca/Bell_Internet/Internet_access). Their reason being to keep service quality high. THE PROBLEM So this morning my Internet, and TV suddenly stopped working. Being quite tech savvy, I manged to find the cause. My home phone number has been changed. It has changed to another number I have never seen before. So I called BELL, and after an hour of hold music, they told me that "One of our technician might have switched the cable around." Basically my phone number is with some body else and I have some body else's phone number. So I asked them when can I get this fixed? They replied calmly "Earliest we can do is tomorrow morning." At this point I was mad, and rightfully so. I demanded them to find out who it was that "switched the cable around" and have them come and fix this today, I don't care if it is off hours, they have to be responsible for their own mistakes. After an hour of holds, they said it was "impossible" for them to send anyone today, and offered a compensation. Their compensation being 1 day off from our BELL bill (like... yea.. This is NOT compensation). SO... I am paying $150 a month for their services. One day, one of their technician messed up and caused me problems, yet, no one was held responsible? I don't want an apology from that technician, I don't want to discredit him, I just want my services back. I had nothing to do with this, unless cooking bacon can messed up the cable. How can they have no response team for this? Isn't Internet bandwidth limit supposed to be for higher quality services? Just wanted to share my experience out there... and hope you guys have better luck than me. I am not letting this go unanswered

So I have mined some coins at 50BTC and I went ahead and paid them out to my wallet, and I wonder how long should it take? I have heard things about it taking a very long time. And also, does it take longer for a large amount of bitcoins?
