Hey there! So, my dad has been looking into a new computer. He does photo editing/rendering. He wants to buy a dell XPS 8700 - But I am arguing with him that a Custom built would be more beneficial. I've stated my pros and cons on each side and hes stated his. Im posting to ask what you guys think. I beleive custom is the way to go, if you're a pre-built person, Why and why not?

Hello all! I found this old motherboard and I can't figure out exactly what brand/model it is (pictures attached). Here's some stuff I've found out already from looking at it and a little research. - has AMD-645/AMD 1997, tm TECH, and Winbound written on it in a couple places - socket-7 (originally had an AMD-K6-233ANR in the cpu socket) - looks almost exactly like the Shuttle HOT-569 released in 1997, but has a few parts in different places as well as saying AMD instead of INTEL written all over it. (picture of Shuttle HOT-569 for reference- http://redhill.net.au/b/jpg/b-hot-569a.jpg ) Is it some kind of weird knockoff, a different version of the Shuttle HOT-569, or something else entirely? Please let me know if you find anything out.

I am getting an FX 8320 and planning to overclock it. Will This board be a good choice? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008B6ONXK/?tag=pcpapi-20 Or is there something else comparably priced that would better?

Not strictly computer-related, but I was wondering if one of you could help me out a little bit. I have this thing in my ceiling and I'm not sure what it is. I think it might be a CO detector, but I'm not sure. Any help in identifying this would be appreciated. Thanks!

So here are the pictures from the event viewer. ------ 1 - ------ 2 - ------ 3 - ------ So this error keeps causing my computer to restart by it's self. I ran Prime95 for 30 min and there was no restart. I ran Heaven and it restarted in the middle of the benchmark and Same goes with BF4. In the middle of playing it just restarts. I also included a 3rd picture of the event log so you guys can see what else is going on. Not sure what in the hell is going on. So I'm hoping some can help me out there. Thank you.

Hello all, My family of three is looking to upgrade phones this summer/fall, and we're currently deciding between Verizon and AT&T. We've been on AT&T for years, but they're pretty shitty service and signal wise so we're thinking of jumping ship and going to Verizon. I'm interested in knowing if any of you have had experience with both AT&T Next and/or Verizon Edge in recent years. Which was cheaper? It's safe to say that Verizon is better in my area, so I'm curious about prices and whatnot. Thanks!

I've been pretty curious about the Asus Workstation motherboards. What makes the them so much different from the other Asus motherboards? I also noticed the price is pretty high on the Workstation board compared to the other motherboards they sell. If anyone can explain the real difference that would be great! (I almost got one but the price was just to much) Thanks!

Hey guys! My monitor is a 27" and is really nice. It has a 1 ms response time, 80,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and it *would* be a perfect monitor for me. Only one problem. It has really bad screen flickering. I know it's not my GPU, you'll just have to trust me on that. But I've been thinking to get a new monitor, and possibly smaller (24" would be nice) because I want to get 3 of them. So I looked on PCpartpicker.com and found this really nice BENQ monitor. it's 24", fairly cheap for what it is, 2 ms response time, is there anything wrong with it? I'm not a monitor expert, so if it's a good replacement then please let me know. Thanks! -Jordan HERE'S A LINK TO THE MONITOR: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/benq-monitor-gl2460hm

So all both my Uplay games which are from CDs are refusing to download, they give me the error: "Failed to start download Uplay is unable to start your download. Check that you have an active internet connection and sufficient space on your hard drive then try again." Now, the HDD I am installing it on has 200+GB of free space, and my internet is working at max strength. List of things I have tried: -Re-installing Uplay -Restarting -trying other HDD Yet to try: -using CD to try and re-install. So my question is, do I have to use the CD to re-install these games? Thanks in advance.

So here's the dilemma. I'm currently sitting at 4.6Ghz @ 1.45v Stable. I'm currently stress testing 4.8Ghz @ 1.52v. I would have to assume it takes over1.52v + it would take to get 5.0Ghz stable. Now the question.... How much performance gain am I really going to get going from 4.6Ghz to 4.8Ghz or even 5.0Ghz? The games I currenlty have installed : Battlefield 4 , Black Ops II. ( I have one SSD for everything so I can't install that many games ) I max out those games no problem. Games I plan to get : GTA V + Bigger SSD & Battlefield Hardline. So now you have an idea of what I play and plan to get. Is it worth overlocking to 4.8Ghz or 5.0Ghz for those games? Would there be any performance boost? Let me know please! Thank you!

The 2014 Moto X will be phased out in the next few months by the new model, appropriately named the 2015 Moto X (most likely that is). At this point in time it’s about 9 months old which is normally forever in the mobile world due to the rapid advances in tech. So what’s it like to use now that it’s fallen behind? What’s it like to use last year’s device? Does it keep up? Let’s start off with the specs, the Moto X features a 5.2 inch 1080p AMOLED display with average color accuracy and overall display performance. Where it really shines is its blacks and greys! AMOLED displays excel in this area due to their ability to actually deactivate the pixels that are black. Each pixel acts as its own backlight so there isn’t any uneven lighting to worry about either. The display doesn’t get super bright but I don’t ever go outside so that doesn’t matter really . Reading at night is really nice because it does get pretty dim while still retaining image detail fairly well in my experience. Powering this display is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SOC with an Adreno 320 GPU which makes for snappy performance during Games and general use. Like I stated before, this review is now a bit out of date but honestly this chip holds its own for the most part considering it’s now 2 generations behind in terms of performance! I mean it seems like just yesterday that Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 805 which has now been dethroned by the Snapdragon 810! But honestly none of that matters, they are just specs on a piece of paper. The way this performs in lollipop is one of the best experiences I have had with a phone, honestly. My daily driver is a Nexus 6 which is currently running Android M. The Nexus is the epitome of Android, Googles shining crown! The Moto X keeps up surprisingly well considering it is behind in every single spec department. Motorola made a smart design choice sticking with a stock Android build for the Moto X (Lollipop 5.0), despite its apparent age it’s as fast as or faster in my experience than many of the new smartphones I have used in recent months including the Galaxy S6 and LG Gflex 2. Granted I haven’t spent nearly as much time with them but they still feel bloated down by their respective skin. Motorola keeps things simple, not unnecessary features constantly bugging you to use or ones that are completely useless. What Motorola does include are things like voice features, and motion gestures that can dismiss a phones call or activate its ambient display to show you quick access notifications which saves battery. Speaking of battery it’s pretty decent in my usage thought your mileage may vary, I tend to get about 5.5-6 hours of screen on time, on Wi-Fi with fairly heavy usage (YouTube, forum/web browsing, phone calls, Reddit!!!) What’s really nice is its standby time, with some tinkering it only drops about 3 percent at night time when I’m not using it! Battery charge time is really fast! It has a 2300 MAH battery that charges to 75 percent in about 45 minutes with the Motorola Turbo Charger. Unfortunately it doesn’t have Wireless charging but that’s not a problem for most people including myself. The way the phone sits in the hand is superior to any phone I have ever used! I owned an HTC One M8 and it set well in the hand but those top and bottom chins made it a bit annoying at times to reach and its metal back and rounded sides made it extremely slippery. The Moto X doesn’t have this issue, it’s curved like the M8 but the screen sets even between the top and button, also on the back is a recessed dimple that makes gripping the phone easier. The metal frame really drives home the quality feel of the phone and the customizable back makes the phone very personal. I only have the default. Nothing fancy, black back but it’s still nice feeling and adds to the grippyness. To wrap things up on my generally long/jumbled review (like most of them are) this phone is fast, built well, feature rich and still very viable despite its age. I would recommend picking one up as I did (well it was free, given to me by a great friend) especially now that Motorola has dropped the price and offering a bundle with its Moto 360 smartwatch. <3 Thoughts?

Currently I have 8GB and I was planning on getting another 8GB to have a total of 16GB. Now in the back of my mind I keep telling my self its not worth it but then again It might be. Would there be any real benefit of getting more memory? Let me know what you guys think. Its would save me $70 if there is no need/benefit in getting it. Thanks!

my PFSense (formerly...and currently Untangle) box has a Gigabyte GA-J1900N-D3V board, but I have had problems like this for years with Pentium4 IBM's and stuff. It doesn't get IP from the modem. Untangle does it fine. The old IBM couldn't get IP from the modem either, untangle did it fine, if I connected it to a switch it worked fine and PF was pretty great if I sacrificed a switch for it. Not only doesn't it get IP from the modem it doesn't give an IP to clients. I have to set a static IP/gateway/dns/etc. Even then it shows as "Unidentified" When I attempt to connect to Webconfigurator it crashes. Rapidly prints lines of text before rebooting. (was) Using 2.2-RELEASE. Help would be nice.

I was wondering what games people are into on their mobiles/tablets atm. I'll kick it off, Game of War: Fire Age. I've been playing this game everyday since Christmas when one of my family members recommended it to me, and for anyone who cares I currently have 8M power having only spent £15... So, what's your favourite mobile game at the moment?? Edit: Just noticed that I missed out 'your' in the title, well I feel stupid...

I need a new graphics card. I game at 1080p and am looking to spend no more than £300. I'm a bit of an nvidia fanboy, but I could possibly be persuaded otherwise. What would you suggest?? Edit: I will be able to order it in about 2-3 weeks
