Hello LTT Community! I am soon to be looking into upgrading my CPU and i figured around this time of year would have been a good time, While im not so desperate to upgrade due to still running a i9 10900k which is a few generations old now but still a very good performer for most systems. I am hestitant to bite the bullet and upgrade my platform as while current intel and amd offering are very good we are on the edge of new generations coming, with intel 14th gen this year being more of a refinement generation and the disapoiting news meterorite lake wont be coming to the desktop in the way we want. Then with the news that AMD is gearing up for the launch of Zen 5 at the start of next year, its put me in a tough postion as to waiting to upgrade and for how long do i wait. When i bought my 10900k back in may 2020 i really enjoyed it however i did feel buyers remorse when ryzen 5000 came out later that year and i dont want to feel like i am repeating that pattern, In this industry that is always the risk we are always playing. It is the same feeling of do i bite the bullet and hop on ryzen 7000 or intel 13th/14th gen (As 14th Gen comes out this month). Maybe 14th gen launch will make ryzen 7000 and intel 13th fall in price, or is it worth holding out and see if waiting out for Zen 5 will be a much worth while investment, both in time and money. When i do come to upgrade i would very much be wanting to upgrade to an i9 or a Ryzen 9 as i would very much like to upgrade my core count too and i am whilling to spend around £500 to £600 GBP for my next CPU, i just want to make sure that i can make the correct choice when it comes to dropping this much on this platform upgrade, i am currently so torn between what generation to hold out for aswell as if i go AMD or intel. I have no brand loayaties, so the only brand i want to give my money is the one who is offering the best performance for the price. If the community has any adivce and addition insight, your wisdom, views and opinions would be more appreicated on this. I want to make the best and most informed decison that i can so the wisdom of the wider community will greatly help! Thank you for taking the time to read all this, Maddie

Okay so @venomtail decided to flip all ive been looking at on its head, my original planned build was as follows: Intel build pc part picker New possible build: AMD based build I know i can mix and match brands but looking at the gaming performance of AMDs products kinda blew me away Need some input into this, good cpu/gpu pairing for gaming, games like cyberpunk, elden ring, remnant etc? What motherboard and memory is ideal for these? GPU is just a placeholder for a 7800xt, if there is a better card id be more than willing to change, any suggestions? This will be a long term upgrade so price, buy and large, doesnt matter to me. Based in uk for pricing and shipping Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, bit of a noob when it comes to overclocking, currently have my 10600K set to +3 in the turbo ratio thingy which puts cores to 1, 2 - 51, 3, 4 - 50, 5, 6 - 49, set to 1.375V, can provide images in a bit (currently mid dnd) any options for improvement? hitting 4.9GHz max but have yet to run a cpu specific benchmark

Hey, so I wanted to upgrade from a Ryzen 5 3600 to probably an i5 13600KF, but since the paperlaunch for the 14th gen is in roughly 3 weeks, I wanted to know if the wait is worth it compared to the performance jump? Thanks

Hi all, here is my PC build in which I'm new to building this stuff. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MBxt89 I am trying to find a great PSU for it but am confused by tiers like gold tier. Can you help me get started with some PSU's to look at and research? I think I need about 750W or so? Thank you! PS: I'm also accepting advice on my build if I need to change anything. It's for video editing and 3D modeling so, a work station.

Hello LTT Community, I am rebuilding a Mackie DXB 200, it's essentially a console that hosts it's OS on Windows 32Bit Systems. Currently, I plan to have the system run Windows POS Ready 32bit in the endgame, and I am compiling components based off of an upgrade list Provided from a group chat. Due to TOS i can't really share the guide I'm following but I can share the purchase list from Ebay! My main concerns are that the parts are scarce and i want to be clear, i want to follow the guide word for word to avoid FF-ing shiz up. Apparently the Mackie Software is just that unstable and finicky. The RAM is the culprit in question. I will be Able to buy either: 1. 1x Stick of 4gb 2. 1x Stick of 8gb 3. 2x Sticks of 8gb for 16gb 4. 4 Sticks of 8gb for 32gb I know a 32bit system is only going to be capable of 4gbs, but I want to make use of dual channel on the MB. Is it safe to drop the 16gb set in my MB? Or should I just stick with one stick of 4gb ram? Another question would be if I am good with the components Here? It looked like nothing was incompatible, but a second pair of eyes would be nice. Thanks guys!

Hi there! I am posting on behalf of my husband. We are both music producers who use FL studio for our work and within the past two days he's been having some cooling issues with his CPU for no apparent reason. His CPU is an i9 9900k. When he's idle, temps are fine and they will be fine for a bit when he's working, but occasionally temps will spike into critical. (Over 100c°) My thought is that maybe his thermal paste needs replaced but I'm not entirely sure. I know a little bit about pcs but not all too much. He's had his pc for a little over 2 years and does work on it on an almost daily basis. He did recently instal an M.2 SSD but I wouldn't think that would have anything to do with the cooling. Any advice or suggestions is more than welcome. Thank you!!!

Hello everyone! So, to introduce my dilemma I believe it's most important to state that I'm using a prebuilt, more specifically, an Alienware Aurora R12 Desktop. As a fair warning, I know nothing about this motherboard except for the fact that it is overclock capable and came from the factory with this setting activated. I have ditched using Dells software, exclusively using it for only fan control (because no other third-party fan control program works). Okay on to the issue at hand, enough precursing. I have been using Intel XTU and learning little by little as I go... The one constant issue I'm facing is that no matter what overclock settings I enter (even factory default), I am consistently getting Current/EDP Limit Throttling almost 100% of the time on load. I understand that my system does run hotter than most (due to the questionable case design) but I have optimized fan control to keep temperatures at a max of 80C-85C even in modern AAA titles like Remnant II. My CPU is able to hit turbo consistently as is, but I imagine there is a lot of performance left on the table here as it has a Max Turbo of 5.00GHz but never been able to get it there or past 4.80GHz... I can only imagine the EDP Limit Throttling is to blame for this. I will attach as much info of my PC Specs and from XTU as possible to aid, please reach out if you need any more information. I would really appreciate if anyone could offer their experience and expertise in order to help me correct what I'm doing wrong here... As well as offer any helpful tips that I can learn along the way! Thank you for taking the time to read this and offering any advice! *As a final note, I have tried using Throttlestop but I'm afraid I'm not educated enough on the topic of overclocking to understand what I'm really doing. I really messed up the CPU behavior at one point and reverted back to XTU out of sheer fear. *The Screenshots of XTU were taken while running COD: Warzone in the background just FYI!~ PC Specs: > Prebuilt Alienware Aurora R12 Intel > Operating System Windows 11 Home 64-bit > CPU Intel Core i7-11700KF @ 3.60GHz (Turbo 2.0 Max 5.00GHz) Skylake Technology > RAM 32.0GB 3200MT > Motherboard Alienware 0P0JWX (U3E1) > Graphics DELL AW2518HF (1920x1080@240Hz) DELL P2319H (1920x1080@60Hz) 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 > Storage 1863GB Seagate ST2000DM008-2FR102 (SATA (SSD)) 476GB NVMe Micron 2300 NVMe 512GB (RAID (SSD))

Hi everyone, I need some assistance with selecting the right mobo for 13600k. Now, I've searched alot but I'm still quite confused since there are thousands of models to pick from. So, I'll just write couple of questions and hopefully you guys can help me sort it out How necessary is it to get the Z series board over the B series for 13600k? I'm not really looking to manually overclock anything but i do want the Turbo Boost performance. If let's say I do get the Z series motherboard, Should i go with DDR5 Or DDR4? I'm aware the performance difference right now isn't very significant but who knows that could change in the future. There's couple other things I need to know but these are the most important ones. Note: I can probably only get MSI or GIGABYTE motherboards.

Budget (including currency): £600 - £650 Country: UK, England Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: VR Gaming (Beat Saber, Gorilla tag, ect), Light Streaming and Light Video Editing PC Part Picker List: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/jZsm89 I've been putting a part picker list together but can't decide between the Intel Core i5-12400F or Intel Core i3-13100 (being almost the same price i've found). The only reason I'm considering the Core i3-13100 is because it's 13th gen along with the integrated graphics just in case of some need for it (dead GPU far down the line maybe?), I'm not sure if the extra cores on the i5 would benefit me much or if the slightly higher Clock Speed on the i3 would be better, either way any of them would be better than the i3-1005G1 I'm using now... Thanks for any help in advance!

Hello everyone This is my first time building a homeserver. I'm building a server with i9900k and Asus z390-f motherboard(bought them second hand for 250$).corsaircx600 600w 80+ bronze PSU. This Nas is mainly for family use. We already have 1TB of memories(picture and videos). And I want stability and redundancy more than speed. Have decided to go with TrueNas scale as I want to run Minecraft server(also I'm more used to Debian). And maybe some apps in docker. My problems are: 1. I don't know which HDDs to buy.(was gonna go with 2 ironwolf 8TB) but it doesn't sound right. 2. Should I go for a second hand case for this? And what should I be looking for. 3. Also just want to make sure if going TrueNas scale is a good choice? Also is there anything I should keep in mind building the server? I would appreciate getting some advice...

Happen to notice some deals on Intel 12th generation and Intel Arc that are quite interesting. 12600k for $185- Intel Core i5-12600K - Core i5 12th Gen Alder Lake 10-Core (6P+4E) 3.7 GHz LGA 1700 125W Intel UHD Graphics 770 Desktop Processor - BX8071512600K - Newegg.com Intel Arc A380 for $100- ASRock Challenger Arc A380 Video Card A380 CLI 6G OC - Newegg.com Intel Arc A770 16GB for $300- ASRock Phantom Gaming Arc A770 Video Card A770 PG 16GO - Newegg.com Intel Arc having an interesting pricing setup currently, being $100, $200, $300 for the A380, A750, A770 respectively. I currently have the A380 I linked which I've done testing on, surprisingly capable GPU for its cost. In my opinion, a very capable spare GPU. 12600k for $185 puts it very close to the 12400f's $150 price point, which in my opinion is a solid value, given its cheaper than the 12600kf even right now. Thoughts?

Official AMD equvialent site like Intel ARK?
TimedPing posted a topic in Programs, Apps and Websites
Maybe I'm not crawling the internet enough, but every time I need to see AMD CPU/GPU tech specs, I need to skip the whole marketing crap on the top just to see the technical details on their website, unlike intel that provide ARK to cut the marketing crap. Most of the time, I'm relying on Wikipedia for quick referencing AMD CPU tech specs for each generation because how more intuitive it is compared to the official AMD website . -
Hi all! I'm currently trying to build a small formfactor PC and i'm struggling with deciding on CPU/Mainboard combination. So my original plan was to get a i5 13600K cpu paired with a ASUS STRIX B760-I ITX motherboard. However i read online that 13th gen intel processors are on 100% voltage and that you can't undervolt them on a B760 chipset, which might be suboptimal for SFX cases considering that there is almost no performance loss when doing so on those chips. now my question is, is it smarter to go for a Z790 motherboard (100€ more) instead, or should i go from a i5 13600K to a i7 13700F (30€ over the i5) and give away my overclocking options. Planning to Pair with a Noctua NH-L9x65 OR a Noctua NH-C14S whichever is a smarter choice. for build details, i'm going for: Case: Fractal design terra Ram: 32GB Corsair vengance DDR5 6000mhz CL36 PSU: EVGA 750W SFX GPU: Some RTX 4070 while i'm at it, are Palit and Gainward good GPU makers? tending to go for a ASUS Dual 4070 OC however both of those makers also offer an OC version for 50€ cheaper than the asus model. Definetly going for a 4070 as i need the 12gb VRAM and 3080s 2nd hand here are still at BS pricing. also the lower power consumotion of the 4070 is smth i want cuz EU power pricing

Whenever i have chrome or discord or any other applications open on my seond monitor (as either fullscreen or windowed applications) and i tab into CS everythig gets shifted off to the side of the screen but goes back to normal when i tab out of CS. I understand that its because of the changing resoloutions and im not willing to switch off of 4:3, nor will i be setting my primary moniter to a different native resoloution so that it has a constant resoloution. I was just wondering if anyone knew a of a way to lock or snap the applications into place on the second monitor. Ive tried looking around and havent really found anyone else discussing this, not sure if its because im searching for the wrong thing, and I havent had much luck trying to get help on reddit. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Not currently at home but when i get home i can upload a video showing it if thats nescassary. Reminder, i will NOT change to 16:9 and i will NOT change my monitors native res to my ingame res.

This is a pc for my best friend, not for me, I already own a combo (7800X3D with a Rx 7900 XTX). I have a AMD 7800X3D but it has some shutter issues in WZ and other games. Hello. So I recently handed down some old PC parts to a friend to get their dead PC back up and running. ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero Wifi Intel Core i9-9900k 32 GB ram Corsair RM850 PSU Friend provided new boot storage, case, and GPU. My old parts had been stored in their original boxes for the last few months. They were my daily driven components until I upgraded to a Ryzen 7000 series rig. Anyway, I rebuild his machine, get a successful post, update bios, and get Windows 11 installing. Right off the bat, the BIOS interface is on the sluggish side. Takes about a second to switch menu items. Secondly, the windows installer took a bit longer than usual given I was installing to an NVMe drive. Once we got into windows I immediately new something was up because the machine felt comicallly slow. I got HWmonitor and cinebench installed (chipset and other hardware drivers were installed at this time) and ran it. To my dismay, I noted that the CPU package was only drawing 40 watts under load and core frequencies were bouncing between 800 mhz and 4700 mhz tending to stay at 800. Temperatures barely touched 40C at their peaks. Clearly the CPU is not running correctly and is hitting some weird power limit or isn't being fed adequate power. I have verify secure seating of all PSU cables including the 8pin+4pin for the CPU. Things I have tried: XMP on and off, no change. ASUS MCE on and off , no change. In windows, power plan set to high performance. I'm kind of at a loss with this one.

So i am in europe, so want to save as much power as possible. The RTX 3090 fluctuates between 30-100w just to show the desktop, which is not very cashmoney. I have an i5 13500 cpu, and the I-GPU on it is really decent. So If I connect both my monitors to the Igpu and disable the 3090 in device manager, nothing should be able to use the GPU, meaning it should be in deep sleep right, using far less than 30w right? Games and professional programs still allow me to choose the rtx 3090, even thought it has no direct connection to the monitor (windows 11), so that shouldn't be an issue.

I want to upgrade my very old CPU (i7 920 4GHz) and looking for recent CPUs now. Lowest prices I found in my country for 13900k at 719$ and 13900 at 604$. Performance difference between 13900 and 13900K is not great according to benchmark sites and 5.6GHz boost clock, which is higher than 13700k, would make me no need for overclocking. But what makes me worrying is lack of reviews for non-k intel cpus and low number of benchmark samples compared to k versions: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/ (28k samples for 13900K, 373 samples for 13900) https://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html (3765 samples for 13900K, 91 samples for 13900) It feels like users avoid non-K versions of intel CPUs, why? Are they built in bad quality or am I missing something?

Hi all, I plan to build a new SFF rig in the coming weeks and am working on locking down a final parts list. My CPU of choice is the i7-13700KF, as I'd like to do some overclocking if I can. But looking at Z790 boards from Canadian retailers, the prices all seem pretty insane, some even equalling the CPU itself. Would it be crazy to use an Asus ROG STRIX Z690-I with a 13700KF? I'm perfectly comfortable with flashing the BIOS via USB if it ships with an older version that doesn't support the 13700KF, but I'm wondering if there are any major features I'd be missing out on by buying last-gen hardware. Thanks!

Anyone know if it's possible to get Windows booting from nvme on Intel Z77 platform? Once Windows is booted it can access the nvme disk fine but it won't boot from it. I tried putting the bootloader on a SATA SSD and had windows partition on the nvme but Windows crashes/bsod. Motherboard is ASUS Z77M-Pro with latest UEFI
