Hello, Does graphics cards with no external power have any disadvantages compared to ones, that need power from PSU?

Location and budget: Canada and since I've already purchased my SSD and GPU, I have about $750 CDN left in my budget. Aim: 1440p gaming with high graphics around 60 fps. I plan to run a single 1440p monitor. Peripherals: I've already got nearly all my peripherals, with the exception of speakers I've got three questions: 1).Is a 500 Watt powersupply going to be enough wattage for this build? If it is enough do, could I OC my GPU at all? 2).Will my I5-4690 bottleneck my performance at 1440p? 3).Should I be concerned with any of the compatibility notes on PC Part Picker? Link: PC Partpicker List Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX LGA1150 - $53.70 CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor - $279.98 Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 - $40.98 Storage (HDD): Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM - $59.75 Storage (SSD): Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 240GB 2.5" - $83.98 purchased Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 1070 8GB Founders Edition - $638.95 purchased Case: NZXT H440 ATX Mid Tower Case - $138.00 Power Supply: PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK III 500W 80+ Bronze Semi-Modular ATX - $132.13 Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 - $44.90 + Total: $1,458 CDN Thanks so much for your time, any input would be appreciated.

Hello every one, I am faced with an issue that seems like its at least a few years old. And for some reason my mind makes me think I've solved it before but just can't seem to remember how. The issue is simple, when you have something moving on the screen, video, movie or even game, if you don't touch the keyboard or mouse for more then 90 sec, the picture (only the video) starts to lag, sound is fine though. I am running Windows 10 and the issue appeared a few days ago. I noticed it first on a YouTube video, and then when I tried playing a game with my steam controller. The game just starts to lag (video only) even though the controller is making some input. The only fix is to move the mouse or type on the keyboard. What I have tried to do to fix it was : -driver reinstall(graphics drivers, mouse and keyboard drivers, even windows update. -Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Registry mechanic and all sorts of anti virus and malaware software. -Unplugged all my I/O's and let a video play, the result stayed the same, after 90 sec it starts to lag. I searched far and wide on the webz, but only solution I find is reinstall, which seems stupid to me. Also someone suggested somewhere returning the BIOS to the default settings, and I don't understand what that is. My motherboard BIOS is stock, I've just tweeked the CPU overclock and the fan speeds. I am quite out of ideas so I reach out to you guys. Hope this is the right place to start the thread. Thank you in advance for your time and support.

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to run one or more Virtual machines on a computer that all use the same input at the same time. For example, if i had one virtual machine open i would have two cursors (one on the VM, and one on my normal desktop). Could i move both cursors with one mouse at the same time? Same goes for the keyboard. Furthermore, any good guides i should take a look at? I have done some research on the internet, but unfortunately not a lot of success. I want to experiment with running multiple Guild Wars 2 clients, to make farming and my use of time more efficient. I would appreciate any information regarding VM's you know Kind Regards, Vincent

So, i recently purchased a BenQ XL2420Z monitor for myself for Christmas, however i cannot seem to get it to turn on. I've never had a 144hz monitor before, so i'm not sure if this can be setup with another monitor that is only 60hz. The issue i'm having seems kind of strange; i plug the DVI cable into the monitor (the one that came with), then into my 970, turn on my computer and nothing. I get power to the monitor as the LED dimmer thingy lights up when i put my finger near or on it, however i have no option to change inputs or see anything on the screen. Tried with a display port cable, still nothing. I used the same cords on my ASUS monitor (60hz) that i'm using right now, and it works perfectly fine. I should mention that windows picks up the BenQ monitor in the NVIDIA control panel, but it is grayed out and crashes the driver when i try and setup the dual monitors. There is a firmware update to V2 on their site for my monitor, however i have no idea how to install it, and if i do install it, will it fix my issue? Could it be a dead monitor even though power goes to it fine? So confused, please help Cheers!

Hey there! so ive gottn my new monitor just yeasterday. and tested it for a few hours, without any problems at all. but now, after i decided to clean up my desk and move the pc. the monitor just does not whant to get a signal from the displayport anymore, just the hdmi works. ive had a simelar issue with my old monitor where when i had made a costum resolution with a higher refreshrate it would upon restar/boot not whant to get the DP signal and just be blackscreen. i fixed this issue by using the hdmi on that screen and remove the costum resolution. but this seems to be no help in the x34's case. cant find anything online with anyone adressing this. anyone have any tips for a fix or knowlage of what might be causing this issue? thx!

I'm planning on buying the AOC G2460FQ 24-Inch monitor, but I can't find anywhere how much input lag this monitor has, and I don't really trust the people in the store, so can anyone tell me?Keep in mind that this is a AOC G2460FQ 24-Inch monitor with an "F" not the AOC G2460PQ 24-Inch with a "P"

My monitor stated in the title is perfect, i love it in every way. That being said, what input should i use to get optimal performance out of it. I am currently using Dual Link DVI but was wondering if HDMI would be better or worse.

Good evening guys, So I'm interested in creating a guitar setup with my PC, be able to play music and jam along, record music ect but I don't actually have the ability to do that at the moment because I'm not sure how to go about it, I attempted to set something up but I'm only able to get my guitar to output sound but that means all other forms of sound (itunes, youtube ect) produce no sound. My PC does not come with a sound card. I'm not sure where to start really, I have no form of external hardware, just my instrument. Here are my PC Specifications: - CPU: Intel Core i7 5820K Haswell-E (Socket 2011) Six Core, Twelve Thread Processor, Watercooled and Overclocked to at least 4.4GHz - Motherboard: MSI X99 MPower Max AC (Socket 2011) ATX DDR4 Motherboard - RAM: Up to 32GB (2x8GB) 2400MHz Dual Channel DDR4 Kit - Graphics: 2 x Nvidia GeForce GTX 980Ti 4096MB Graphics Cards in SLI & Watercooled - Primary Drive: Samsung 840 Evo Series 500GB Solid State Drive - Secondary Drive: Seagate Barracuda 3TB SSHD Hybrid Hard Drive - Audio: 7.1 Channel HD Audio with SPDIF I/O - Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit - Power Supply: Super Flower Leadex 850W 80+ Gold Rated Power Supply I'm really looking for some insight as to what I purchase first (If something does in-fact need to be bought), is it simple to setup? Do I need some kind of sound card? Thanks very much in advance for taking the time to read my forum post, appreciate it very much. Ivan.

Hey guys! Does sound quality reduce when playing music over an auxilary connection instead of let's say playing it from a cd? So for example in my car i can either play music off a cd or i can put the same music files on my phone and play it through an aux cable. Thanks in advance!

I use a Microsoft Sidewinder X3 mouse that I've had for about five years, but recently the middle click (press scroll wheel) has stopped working, and does nothing. The wheel still does scrolling (up and down) as it used to. I haven't dropped the mouse and I can't think of anything else that may have affected it. I have checked settings in Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre, and checked that the driver is up to date. Does anybody have an idea what the cause might be, and how to fix it?

title says it all. I bought an ipad Air 2 for schoolwork (our school is transitioning to a 1:1 ipad program next year) and the Dell 2414h monitor, cus my old one broke.

Hey guys, I brought my monitor over to uni, incase i could not get used to the small screen on my laptop, but one thing im noticing is that the input lag is quite bad over hdmi. I don't remember it being that bad when i was using my desktop (using displayport) I have gone through the monitor settings, for any fast response modes, to no avail, and there is nothing the the gpu control panels either. It does not feel as bad as suing a TV, but it does feel like the mouse is connected to jelo.

So, I am reimaging a machine for my cousin, a VIT M2400, (Venezuelan Institute of Technology) and am running into a strange issue. Everytime you hit the 'R' key it brings up the right click context menu. I'm fairly sure it is a software issue, but I don't even know how to begin diagnosing this. If you have ideas or information I should find and post, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Here is my code public static void main(String[] args){ //execute the previously defined methods to calculate the quadratic equation. while (cont){ System.out.println("What is the A value?"); //Asking the user for the A value in their quadratic equation. Scanner Ascanner = new Scanner(System.in); //Created a new scanner variable for the A value boolean validInput = false; while(!validInput){ try { double a = Ascanner.nextInt(); //Storing the next integer of that scanner variable for an Integer of the A value.System.out.println("What is the B value?"); //Asking the user for the B value in their quadratic equation. validInput = true; } catch (InputMismatchException e) { System.out.println("That was not a number, please enter a numeric value"); } } double b = Ascanner.nextInt(); //Storing the next integer of that scanner variable for an Integer for the B value. System.out.println("What is the C value?"); //Asking the user for the C value in their quadratic equation. double c = Ascanner.nextInt(); //Storing the next integer of that scanner variable for an Integer of the C value. //Finding the radicand double tem1 = handleradicand(a,b,c); neaer the beginning you can see that I am trying to get an A value(this is a program for calculating the quadratic equation, I have methods and stuff before this, but this is all that's necessary for help). A scanner is then defined called Ascanner. This is where stuff gets confusing. Before I added this, everything was fine for the most part. If you ignore the while loop and the try catch stuff, the user would input an integer and it would get stored as a. But if the user input a letter or something else, it would crash, so i want to add something to handle that case, so that if the user inputs anything other than and integer, which would otherwise cause a runtime error, the program would prompt the user to try again, saying that was not a number, please enter a numeric value. What happens, is that when i set the double a to the next integer, it doesn't get returned from this method, so that when i call it in handleradicand, at the bottom, it is undefined. What should I do to either fix this, or maybe I should do something other than a try catch.

Hello all ! Im Ricardo (18 incase you're wondering) So my father recently ... ran into some money (completly legal dont get any ideas hahaha) and he basicly gave me full reign over my own setup. SO I want to build my first computer along with my own desk and all. So these are the parts that i came to like (at least on paper and over youtube vids) over the course of 3-5 hours of binging on this (im really excited) I drew up a basic idea of what the desk would look like (its going to be mostly wood painted to go along with the design of the h440) (location of drawing unknown) ( Basicly and "L" shaped desk with a square footprint of 6 feet by 5 feet or so) ill make a new one as soon as possible. Hello, So I'm about to embark on a rather expensive, high end gaming/streaming machine, but will also be doing a moderate amount of content creation as well, such as gameplay videos, tutuorials, etc, and uploading them Youtube. So for the build itself, I want to watercool my CPU forsure, but I'm on the fence as to wither I should watercool my GPU(s) as I have heard mixed opinions on the matter, which is something I'm also looking to figure out within this thread. The theme that I'm going for in this build is Green/Black with a touch of white. I'm going to be overclocking my CPU as well as my GPU(s), and aiming to run everything at 1440p, on max settings on basically everything I run. So to the fun part, the parts list thus far: Mobo - ASUS Rampage V Extreme ATX LGA2011-3 X99 DDR4 SLI WiFi SATA3 USB3.1 Motherboard CPU - Intel Core I7-5930K 3.70GHZ Six Core 15MB Hyperthreading LGA2011-V3 Processor GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX Titan X Superclocked 12GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 G-SYNC Ready Graphics Card x 1 or x 2, would like input here. SSD - Samsung 850 EVO Series MZ-75E500B/AM 500GB 2.5in SATA III Internal SSD With AES 256 Encryption HD - Western Digitial WD3003FZEX Black 3TB SATA 6GB/S 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5in Hard Drive OEM RAM - Corsair Dominator Platinum Series 16GB 4X4GB DDR4-2800 C16 Memory Kit Power Supply - Corsair AX1200I 1200W Digital ATX 12V 80 Plus Platinum Modular Power Supply 140mm Fan Case - Corsair Obsidian 900D ATX Super Tower Case w/ Window 4X5.25 9X3.5INT USB3.0 No PSU - Can vary, just using this an ideal base. Now, I'm all ears when it comes to advice/input, what ever it may be, it is always greatly appreicated, thank you, and I look forward to your responses.

Hello, I need some help with configuring my capture card, i got a AVerTV CaptureHD (H727E) and i'm trying to make it work so i can play PS3 games on my computer screen. I know about HDCP and such but the website claims you are able to view the content regardless. AVerMedia only provided a quick guide on how to set it up, with installation and uninstallation instructions but no help on how to configure the application. I've explored most of the settings (Not all since i only have PAL devices, so changing settings to NTSC wouldn't work) but still don't have any signal coming through neither HDMI nor Coax (Yes, devices are on and connected properly). Help? EDIT; I found the solution after some brainstorming with a friend, turns out i had to set the screen output of my PS3 to 1080i instead of 1080p. It's displaying properly now, but i still have to figure out how to make the SNES work with it since it outputs a very low-frequency signal.

Just like many sites have "reviews" on products/services where a user can have an input box to type text, then that text is saved and displayed on the page.... Any advise on how I could achieve this using a web language.. html, php, javascript, etc.

Hey LTT, I have an idea that I am planning to do on a build. this is more of a concept build rather than a performance- hence I will be using older parts not really meant to do much gaming. Ok well anyway here is my idea. I want to modify the corsair 600t that I own and put a custom built bladeless fan- made from acrylic so it is see through. I think that the bladeless fan idea would be great to show off the front bays- potentially to mount something. I understand the bladeless fans are not the quietest or move the most amount of air but I am looking forward to trying this concept out (pardon the paint sketch attached as I dont have any software to do rendering) Let me know what you guys think!
