Hello everyone After some thought I found that this could be the right place to ask. I yet never had problems with my performance until I bought my new Monitor. I upgraded from 16:9 20" 1080p to 32:9 49" 1440p. I expected my GPU to limit me but not that hard. This way I remembered why I bought an OC GPU and CPU and started to tinker around. By now I found some stable values but I am not fully sure If it is okay to use this as an everyday profile. My settings: GPU: Asus Strix GTX970 It never gets over 74°C even after an hour of stresstesting. I think these are pretty safe? CPU: Intel I7 4790K (normally at 4GHz, Boost 4.4GHZ) I have set the values in the BIOS but the AI Suite picked them up. (All cores are the same) If you wonder about the Values shown at the bottom, speedstepping and turbo is still enabled as I don't think it has to heat the Room unnecessary and may shorten the lifespan less. The Voltage under load shows about 1.296V with short spikes up to 1.301V. Whilst stresstesting the temperatures are varying between 70°C and 85°C. Averaging at around 74°C. 85°C Are often just while fans are ramping up afterwards 80°C seems to be the maximum hit after an hour. Do the temps always vary so much during stresstesting or is my cooling setup a bit sketchy? I think my 800W powersupply should be able to deliver without problems and it also did not seem to limit whilst I stresstested GPU and CPU for an hour simultaniously. What do you think about these settings? Is this acceptable (for the next years)? I think I will replace the GPU with a 3070 or a 4060 as soon as they are available for a relatable price. If there is anything left I forgot, tell me! :) Thank you all very much beforehand and enjoy the day! Greetings from Switzerland, Ale.

I purchased a used cyberpower prebuilt with a i7 4790k, it surprisingly had 2 graphics cards; GeForce 1660 and a GeForce 1050ti. It has 2 sticks of 8g ddr3 ram as well. I've been noticing really poor performance when gaming. I decided to download nzxt's cam software to monitor the performance. And to my surprise no matter what game I'm playing im running at 90-100% cpu power and under 20% gpu power. I've checked all connections, and checked to make sure its only using the 1660 when I game. Theres no obscene amount of dust and fans are all working properly. Temps sit at a solid 60 degrees for both cpu and gpu. Still no idea whats giving me such horrible frame drops and all around bad performance.

Hi guys, I think my MSI Mainboard killed my I7 CPU. I recently upgraded my rig from an i5 4570 to an I7 4790k and from an R9 290 to an ZOTAC AMP! 980 TI. My MB was MSI Z87 G43. Performance was great, even Cyberpunk @1440 p not a problem at High. However, I made the bad decision to update my bios to the latest version, since my PC was from 2013 and MB BIOS not updated since then. When I started the flash process trough M Flash (USB Stick, I did NOT flash through the windows SW) with the latest version I just got a black screen, but everything was fine after that. I should have called it a day an let it in peace. But unfortunately, I tried to flash a lower version than the latest, think it was 1.5 (still more recent than my old BIOS). This time, it looked better at the first glance, I could see the flash process from USB reach like 30 or 40 %, but the suddenly my PC restarted and the screen went black. Ofc I waited for some Time (15 to 30 minutes) till I tried anything but the MSI MB was dead. I was able to get a MB with the same chipset from eBay, luckily, an “ASRock Z87 extreme4”. Mounted all my components on the new MB and started the system, only to see completely black screens again one I tried to boot. Error display on the ASRock showed 00 which means CPU or MB error I think. Then I switched CPU, from the I7 to my old I5 and luckily, the ASRock MB & i5 works perfectly fine and booted my system up immediately. I did the test once again with the i7, again black screens, with the I5 again the system works. Also crosschecked, the BIOS on the ASRock from eBay is up2date and supports the i7. So my conclusion is that the bad/interrupted BIOS Update somehow killed my poor I7 ☹ ? Is this possible?

hello i have 1080ti and a 1080p 180hz gsync monitor cpu: I7 4790k @4.7Ghz in games a rearly see a 99% usage on the gpu or the cpu and low fps ( kingdom come deliverance around 60% gpu usage 50-65% cpu usage (none of the threads is maxed out) and fps drops to the 40-45 fps i heard its a little bit unoptimized so i dont care much for this one) (destiny 2 much better fps 180-90 fps most of the time but there are parts like 60-70 fps 50-55% gpu usage and 50-55% cpu usage (again none of the threads maxed out) (in the witcher 3 i get nice fps, nice gpu usage 90+%) can it be that the cpu isnt strictly bottlenecking the gpu but it is slowing it down a lot ? or it is just that the gpu dont play nice with 1080p

As it says in the title i'm pretty sure my cpu is holding me back hard in some games in some areas by up to 40%, Just want someone to confirm this is the case, i've attached an example PC specs http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/7502258

Before i was getting 80-90c under load with a h100i and then i decide to buy a new cooler from deepcool and when i installed it my temps just shot through the roof, so i put my old cooler in the h100i and are still getting the same results. i did seat the coolers correctly everytime and the pump is running i dont understand why though my voltage is stock @1.160 but i can see on CPUID my clock speed is constantly running between 4.2ghz-4.4ghz 24/7 any suggestions ?

I'm buying a new cpu and don't really know where to go for it. I can always just get it on amazon and cut out the middle man but there's also this site called silicon lottery: https://siliconlottery.com/products/4790k47g. Its a place where they test all the chips and bin them within certain clock speeds at a certain voltage. I just haven't really heard much about them and am not sure if I want to put my credit card on a site that's this obscure. What do you guys think? Should I buy from the siliconlottery.com or just play the real silicon lottery?

Hi, I am upgraded my system by replacing my Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX770 4GB OC Edition with an ASUS STRIX GTX1080 O8GB. The primary drivers for the change was that I was having endless driver issues with new titles and the GTX770 was a warm card and the second part was to future proof my rig. So in terms of the first two issues I am extremely happy as I achieved my goal. In terms of the second is where I am not sure. I did not upgrade my MOBO or CPU currently I am running an i4790k on a Gigabyte G1 Sniper Z87 with 16GB of RAM. At what stage will I start to see my processor and MOBO start to bottleneck my video card.

Hi guys!!! I'm going to upgrade my CPU from Intel Pentium G3240 to these 3 choices: 1. i5-4690k - $244.72 2. i7-4790 - $307.31 3. i7-4790k - $346.29 I currently have the following Motherboard - Asus H81M-K (yeah. like a very cheap motherboard) Memory - Kingston HyperX 4GBx2 1333 or 1600 (I forgot) SSD - Kingston SSD v300 120GB HDD - 40GB Hard Drive from my PS3 ( I lost my 1TB Western Digital Blue because of ant infestation, DAMN YOU ANTS!!!) GPU - Sapphire r7 265 PSU - FSP AurumS Gold 600W I'll be using mg PC for Gaming plus Lumion, Google Sketchup + Vray, CAD, 3DS Max. My questions are: 1. Which CPU should i get? 2. if the i7 K, is the K worth it?. 3. Will my motherboard be a problem ? Thanks everyone!!

I bought an i7 4790k and an ASUS Maximus VII Hero, I'm trying to pick out the perfect set of RAM for my new pc. I'm looking for higher speeds like 2133MHz etc. The problem i am having is that when I find higher speed ram, it always has a voltage the exceeds the "Intel recommended voltage". What happens if I use it anyway? Is lower speeds like 1866MHz and higher CAS latency better than higher speeds and lower CAS latency?

Hi there all together... so I am upgrading my midrange Gaming Pc for Christmas and I am realy not that sure about if the configuration will work as intended. The style is kept in Blue-Black-White and i want to keep it that way as easy as possible. So let's start about the actual setup, what I planed to change and what bothers me. MB: Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 -> ASrock Z97 Extreme 6 3.1 CPU: i7 3770K -> i7 4790K GPU: GTX 970 G1 Gaming, stays RAM: Corsair 8GB DDR3-1600 -> G.Skill Ares DDR3-2400 16GB SSD: Adata pro SP900 128GB stays HDD: WD 2TB Green SA3 stays PSU: be quiet! CM L8 630W adding SanDisk X300 M.2 128GB cooled by 1x120 1x140 2x200 casefans and Alpenföhn Brocken 2, 2x140mm no change intended so far So, can I expect being able to use all of the components even if or due to the fact that Ram Cpu and Gpu will be overclocked ? Is the new MB, with all those parts, able to keep the GPU on the same output lvl as I got now ? Can I run the Ram on 2400 and use the M.2 Ssd without creating a "bottleneck" for the Gpu because of the MB? Because I do not see a probleme in that arrangement at all, only the mainboard bothers me. Thank you for any advise, oppinion and thought on what parts YOU would replace with my selected new parts. EDIT: sry, forgott an important thing, those 3 parts i am getting rid of are going into another one's system so THESE ARE the parts i got the chance to upgrade. New question: If I change the system like this, but I take Ssd instead of M.2 Ssd and also change from WD green to WD Black, and I am going to upgrade just cooling and GPU in the future will that be smart ? Resum: I pay 60bucks for MB, 90 for CPU and 40 for ram (upgrade selling old buying new) and buy a used WD Black Plan for the future is upgrading GPU and cooling maybe going sli..... and at least then (1/2 years) i will also have to upgrade MB,RAM and CPU ?

I purchased a 4790k and Maximus vii Hero, I've been trying to get an overclock on my cpu. Yesterday i took the multiplier and ramped it up to 44 (4.4ghz) and left the voltage on auto. I was assuming that the "Auto" voltage would do just fine because the cpu turbos at 4.4ghz anyways. After I tried the overclock, my computer started turning on for a second or two and then turned right back off, it repeated turning on and off for 5-7 minutes until I held down the power button and it shut off completely. After I started it up again, it gave me the "Overclock Failed" error, so I reset all the bios settings to defaults. It's working fine now at 4.0ghz. I ran an AIDA64 stress test for a couple of minutes and everything seems to be stable, I want to try and overclock again, but im kinda scared of the computer ruining something by turning on and off like that. Thanks in advanced! -Dr_Pleeper

Hello you guys!! A couple of months ago, I was asking for helps on my 1st build plan. Many thanks to all who read and gave advice. ***My original post: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/292094-1500-1st-pc-build-please-express-your-opinion/ I am now going to purchase the parts soon (next week) in Thailand. Therefore, I would like to ask you guys again about my final part list. * Some items that I really want to have such as FD R4, EVGA G2 850w and Crucial MX100 are not easy or impossible to find here. ** The Wireless receiver is necessary for now, but in 5 months I will move (again) and I think I will not need it anymore. Hello everyone. I recently purchased this build (http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/kfg6NG). I haven't built it yet, as I am still waiting for a few parts to get here. Anyway, I have been doing some extra research just to kill time and after looking more closely at my build, I am starting to worry. I knew before I purchased the NZXT H440, that it has a slight problem with airflow. But I didn't think it was all that bad. But now I am hearing more and more people say that it is very airflow restrictive and even more so with the addition of AIO coolers. As the rad blocks a lot of the airflow. Because I am going with the H110, should I expect major problems in terms of overheating with this case? I plan to play Skyrim on ultra with a lot of mods and I am not quite sure on how my system will do in terms of performance and temperatures. I don't plan to overclock at this point as I am not to knowledgeable on the subject. I have looked around and have found a lot of mixed opinions in terms of "safe" temps for the i7 4790k and the Asus GTX 780ti, as well as a lot of problems with the i7 4790k overheating. And to make matters worse, the H440 doesn't seem to be built to handle such components (am I wrong?) because of its restricted airflow limitations. What should I be aiming for and at what temps should I start to worry for the CPU and GPU in general and then in this specific build? Do any of you have any tips to improve the cooling in the H440 to make it safe? And lastly, am I right in worrying about this or am I just overreacting? Will the case do well or not so well? Thanks so much and I hope to hear from you soon!

Hey guys, so I've come to the later stages of building my new PC. It's meant for gaming and also video editing and programing for my studies and stuff. I am planning to overclock. So first here is my build so far: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($364.63 @ DirectCanada) CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($109.99 @ Canada Computers) Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($231.80 @ DirectCanada) Memory: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2400 Memory ($300.72 @ DirectCanada) Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($479.00 @ Canada Computers) Storage: Western Digital BLACK SERIES 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($149.99 @ Canada Computers) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB TWIN FROZR Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($794.98 @ Newegg Canada) Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 780 Ti 3GB TWIN FROZR Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($794.98 @ Newegg Canada) Case: Cooler Master Cosmos II (Black) ATX Full Tower Case ($329.99 @ NCIX) Power Supply: Corsair 1200W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($309.99 @ NCIX) Optical Drive: LG BH16NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer ($91.25 @ Vuugo) Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro (OEM) (64-bit) ($144.99 @ Canada Computers) Total: $4102.31 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available For Fans I was planning to go with Noctua NF-AF14s for the H110 and some fancy Corsair AS AF120s. I will use the Cosmos because I can get it cheap from a friend of mine and the mainboard is also set because of a deal I get at my local techstore. I wanted to maintain a black and red colorsheme. As for monitors I got a 1440p Monitor and a 1080p as a second screen.

Hey guys, I enjoy streaming on twitch but would also like to record footage locally onto my computer at the same time, both in 60fps preferably. However when I play Smite and stream at 720p30fps on my i5 3570k atm there's severe lag dropping my frames below 40 so I can't even think about trying to record at the same time. So I decided my CPU needed upgrading and I don't know whether the 4790k will be powerful enough to max my game settings and get 120+ fps while streaming at 720p60fps and recording 720pfps with dxtory at the same time or whether I'd need the 5820k. Any advice is welcome. Thanks in advance! (Current specs: gtx970 8gb ram i5 3570k)

Hey guys, I'm Luke, I'm Located in Sydney, Australia and am currently in the process of planing out a new build. This is the link of parts I'm currently thinking about. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/zWF9Lk So I'm a casual gamer, playing mostly games like The Hunter and ARMA 3, with other AAA titles that grab my eye. I also do some casual video editing of some footage of my spearfishing trips on the weekend. I'm interested in running a Mid-Ranged Overclock on the system, hence the beefed up PSU and Motherboard. id love to get the system under the $3000AUD mark but i could be persuaded out to around $3500AUD. That is including peripherals. Let me know if I've missed any points you need or would like some more information. Looking forward to your opinions. Cheers
