Hello Everyone, Getting a weird problem trying to get my full internet plan download speed at my computer. Here's the situation: Comp 1 (my computer) is connected with a 20ft cat5 cable to a TP-Link TL-SG105 which is then connected with a 50ft cat6 cable back to the modem. Comp 2 (wife's computer) is connected with a similar 20ft cat5 cable to the same switch. The internet plan speed is 600Mbps down and 10Mbps up. Comp 1 can download games from Steam at a max of 50-60Mbps (connected to closest US server), and gets ~360Mbps from speedtest.net. Comp 2 can download games from Steam at 540Mbps (connected to same server), and gets ~550Mbps from speedtest.net. Comp 1 has an i7-8700k installed on a Gigabyte Z370N Wifi motherboard with two 1Gbps network ports on the rear I/O. Comp 2 has a Ryzen 5 3600 installed on a ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 with 1 1Gbps network port on the rear I/O. Here's what I've tried so far to fix the speed issues on comp 1: * connecting the current cable to the other port, no change * connecting extra cat5 cable to comp 1 and switch, no change * connecting comp 2's cat5 cable to both ports on comp 1, no change * connecting directly to the modem, small improvement (speedtest.net results went up to 390Mbps, I'm assuming this increase was from removing the overhead of the switch) * tested built-in wifi with the motherboard's included antenna, worse results (expected but worth testing still just in case there was a significant improvement and I could download on wifi and then play the games on ethernet) * updated bios, chipset drivers, and LAN drivers from the motherboard support page, no change * contacted my ISP, they said there was a decent amount of packet loss between the ISP and my modem, but that doesn't easily explain why comp 2 is able to get access to the full download speeds and comp 1 can't. Is there something I'm missing here? Or is the MB and/or CPU just taking a crap and it's time to replace them? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

After installing a new GPU (RTX 3090 from GTX 1080), I started my computer, saw the BIOS splash screen, followed by a message that read “reboot and select proper boot device” Some consulting with the Motherboard Manual, I decided to try swapping the NVME drive to the other M.2 ports. (I’m not sure what my thought process was here…) That didn’t work. I updated the BIOS, from B2 to F15a, and now that message doesn’t show up. Instead, upon powerup, the bios comes up first, with no option to select the boot drive. If I hit F12 on the BIOS splash screen, I get the option to select a boot drive. If I select the Samsung 970 EVO PLUS, it will try to boot, and bring me back to the same spot, asking me to select the drive again. (This seems like the same issue, the BIOS is just handling it different with the update.) I did try swapping the Storage Boot Option Control from UEFI to Legacy, but no luck. This wasn’t an issue that I anticipated when upgrading to the 3090, and is a bit out of my wheelhouse. The only thing I can think of could be an issue is the 3090’s use of PCI-e x16, and somehow the NVME drive can’t get what it needs to run? However, this benchmark I found (https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/35087921) shows a user with the same Motherboard, CPU, and GPU I have, as well as a NVME SSD. So, it appears to be possible. · Z370 AORUS Gaming 7 · BIOS Ver.F15a · i7-8700K · 64 GB DDR4 2133MHz · Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB PCI-e NVME SSD (Boot Drive) · Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SSD · EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 · EVGA 850W PSU · Windows 10 Pro 64-bit · Motherboard error code reads: Ab I appreciate any and all advice on this. Thank you.

gpu: rtx 2080 cpu: i7-8700k windows 10 64x 16gb ram asrock z390 phantom gaming 4-ib I have been trying to play warzone, rust, minecraft and many more games but my gpu and cpu usage are both lower than usual. my cpu usage always stays at 10-40% and the speed jumps around from .8ghz - 2.5ghz when the base speed should be 3.7ghz and as for my gpu it also stays at around 10-40% usage and even after playing games for long periods of time my computer doesnt heat up. no less than a week ago these werent issues at all and i was able to run games on max settings over 100 fps but now i can barely top 30 fps and changing the quality doesnt change the fps im getting at all ive tried clearing my graphics drivers reinstalling windows resetting my pc resetting my bios ive change all of the graphics settings on my pc to maximum performance and ive tried other modes too i dont have any v-sync on i also havent done any overclocking if anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated because ive spent much time reading forms and solutions and nothing has worked to fix my pc so far

Hi! My CPU is pretty much getting +100C at Cinebench, and usually at gaming Elder Scrolls Online it's going around +80-100C. Heres my build: Asus Z370-F GAMING i7-8700K 16Gb Hyper X Fury DDR4 2666MHz Corsair 650W VS650 ATX Noctua NH-L9X65 I just changed thermal paste, and tried changing the CPU Core/Cache voltage to adaptive at 1.15V but it only made it worse. Temps jumped to +95-100C the second I pressed "Run" at Cinebench. I'm honestly clueless, thus I'm seeking some help from LTT Forums. Thank you in advance.

Okay so i have an i7-8700k i just upgrade the cooler from a Hyper 212 Evo to a be quiet! Dark Rock 4, BK021, 200W TDP, CPU Cooler and i even used the old fan from the hyper 212 evo with the new cooler and the fan it also came with. The reason why i upgrade is because on the Hyper 212 Evo doing some heavy load well easily and i mean easily go up to 100c so i upgrade after a 1-2 years and now i have the dark rock 4 and i fire up cine bench and it not that much better still get in the 90-100 but it is keeping it more cool but not were i would want it so am wondering if the thermal paste from the be quiet cooler is just actually garbage for some reason or the cooler just can't cool. so can anyone help shed some light on this problem.

I have an Asus Rog Maximus x formula motherboard with a i7-8700k with the most recent bios and drivers and I’ve tried over clocking my cpu in bios multiple times following videos. (I’ve over clocked cpus before so I know the procedures involved with over clocking cpus) I’m trying to over clock to 4.7ghz and it says so on the bios but when I launch to windows it’s still at stock clock speed. I’ve read up on articles all day about people having the same problems with no fixes what so ever. Wondering if anybody has a fix for this here or maybe I’m missing a setting in my bios settings that applies to Asus motherboards. I’ve changed the clock speed the voltage all that good stuff and it refuses to clock past the factory clock speed under load. I payed for a a mother board that can be over clocked yet refuses to do so. Please help.

My pc doesn't display the cpu temeprature any more i've use multipe programs that monitor temperature but non of them are showing anything. i mainly use NZXT Cam because im using an nzxt kraken x62 and i'm kind of worried that my cpu will start running hot without me knowing because i can't set the fan curve any more via cam.

Hey forum, I'm building a new rig and while doing my research i found i didn't know as much stuff as i thought i did.. I don't know how pcie lanes work.. Soo I watched Linus video on this : PCIe Lanes - PCIe 8x vs 16x in SLI And now i wonder : The 8700k only has 16 PCIe lanes. From what i understand the GPU will use 16x lanes in the best scenario but could use 8x Several questions here : 1. How many CPU/PCH lanes does the mobo have ? And how do you find that number ? 2. Will the M.2 use the PCH lanes ? 3. Does using a 1080ti with only 8x lanes affects its performance? 4. Can I do SLI with two 1080 ti's and an M.2 with this setup? Also, 5. is this M.2 compatible with the mobo, and is it any good ? I'll use it for OS only Rig : ASRock Z370 Killer SLI Intel® Core™ i7-8700K Processor ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce® GTX 1080 TI 11GB OC Edition Adata XPG SX8000 <- M.2 850 500gb ssd 32gb ram 1000w psu Thank you guys

Hello lads! I've been planning out my new build recently, and I consider going with an 8700k with 1080ti SLI. Since I have an 6850k right now (going to sell the old build) with 40 PCIE lanes, I can run 1080 SLI with 16*2 lanes and a m.2 ssd with no problem. So here comes my question: the 8700k only has 16PCIE lanes... Will that ever bottleneck the future 1080ti SLI setup? Cheers!

Hey guys and gals, I'm in the final process of planning my new i7-8700k CoffeeLake build. Just was wondering what, if any, recommendations you all would have? I tend to get some good advice from you all (sometimes haha) and was just wondering what the general input is. I have already got on a waiting list for the CPU, and the motherboard and RAM was just ordered earlier today. I am actually mostly looking for any case suggestions (although any other suggestions are welcome). I would like to stay with a similar sized case but I plan on going SLI sometime next year and building a custom hard-line loop in it, so good radiator support is important while staying within a mATX mini-tower or mATX mid-tower. I already have one big system and would prefer to stay as compact as possible. Things like TG are important to me, rad support, and to an extent good air flow. I kinda ruled out the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX TG for this reason as the top exhaust is almost completely enclosed and I think it would be a bit too restrictive for air flow. Even though it is my favourite looking it would not be good for water cooling. Also with the plan of going SLI, is 850w enough? I would imagine it would be fine as PCpartpicker says all the components draw 763w (in SLI), but I also know PSU's are most efficient at around 50% load. I'm not budget shy about going for a 1000w PSU if it is recommended. I would like to stay around the $4500cad budget I have right now, and I need a high-resolution ultrawide monitor to fit in the budget as well. Thanks in advance for any advice or suggestions! What's the right CPU cooler for I7-8700K that even overclocking should work great? I know it's very basic but I'm not sure which cooler is the best. That's why I need more details from you, mates. Anyway, I'm an AMD fan. I'm just curious about Intel's new releases.

Hello Guys, I'm about to build a new pc that should be solely for games. (i don't render nor video edit). I already have an NVIDIA GTX 1080ti, and i would like to hit 5ghz cpu clock (delided ofc, and yes i'm aware of silicon lottery). After reading numerous reviews i narrowed my list to a few motherboards/cpus combination, and would like your help on which one to choose that will give the best PPD. Thanks in advance

I was planning on getting an i7-7700k for a new pc I'm building I was wondering if I should wait for the i7-8700k or just get the i7-7700k. I really want to get my new rig I have been waiting on it for a while and I don't know if waiting for the i7-7800k to get released and for it to be available where I live and the new motherboards with the Z370 chipset to get released. I really want to get my computer in the next week or so but if the 8700k is worth it I am considering waiting. Intel Ark 7700k vs 8700k So should I wait?

I am planning on building a super high end ITX computer, partially because I can, and partially because I actually want to take it with me to LANs. I want to strike the right balance between airflow and size, that is to say, I want the smallest possible ITX case that can cool a 1080 Ti and the upcoming i7-8700K. I plan on watercooling the CPU so I therefore need space for a 240mm AIO and as for the GPU, I would prefer to aircool it, but I would also consider a hybridcooler if it cannot be properly cooled with air. I have been looking at the Fractal Design Define Nano S which I believe fits all of my criteria, however, I still think that it is a tiny bit large at 26.8 liters. Is there anything smaller than this case which can also pull this off? Please elaborate your answers. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Guys, I wanted the Alienware AW2518H or any of the 240hz monitors. So I'm wondering if my setup will run it well? I have a RTX 2060 Founders Edition ( not clocked yet) i7-8700k(not clocked yet) and 250GB SAMSUNG 970 EVO and also 2X8 DDR4 RAM at 3000MHz from Adata

Hi all, I have a i7-8700k running at 5GHz. It's stable at stock voltages, I haven't changed anything this time. All the voltages are on auto but they don't go crazy high so that's fine I think. I have the core clock set to variable, and in the past the core clock would just go down to like 2GHz if it was idling. But a since I changed the OC from 4.9 to 5.0 it just "stays" there. Not exactly 5GHz, it makes a few drops to like 4.7 for a second. In the spoiler is a screenshot from Aida 64 showing clock speeds and voltages. To me this all seems fine. I just want to know if this will hurt my chip in the long run? I would say no because voltages are the same or close to stock but I wouldn't consider myself an expert on overclocking... Kinda hoping someone here could tell me it it's safe to run this 24/7 (yes my computer is running 24/7) and if not is there any other option I might be able to change to get it to clock down and thus lowering voltages?

Alright hey everyone, I just recently put together my first Custom Loop and noticed the temperature on my 8700k has not dropped a single degree than from using my 280mm AIO from Corsair (80-83°C Stresstest). Although the temps on my GPU have dropped significantly. I have 2 rads in the loop, one 420x30mm rad from corsair, and one 280x60mm from alphacool. The CPU block is the EKWB Nickel plated Copper Classic RGB. I used the thermal compound provided by EKWB. Is the only way to drop my temps delidding with liquid metal and undervolting? If so is it really worth buying a delidding tool for 30 bucks, only to use it once and never again? Thanks alot in advance.

Hey, I'm looking to upgrade my CPU - my current one is i5-8400. I heard 9th gen is really hard to keep temperature low and I can't afford liquid cooling yet. If there are any other propositions than those 3 CPUs then write them down, please. Here are my specs: - Z370 Tomahawk - Gigabyte RTX 2060 (3 fans) - 4x4 GB Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz CL15 - Silentium PC Spartan 3 PRO (CPU cooling) - Silentium PC Vero L2 600W - HDD 1TB + SSD 256GB ADATA SU800 Thanks in advance.

Hey there LTT Community! As the title of this post says I am a complete rookie when it comes to overclocking. Haven't the slightest idea what Voltages and setting to set up for it. I was wondering if one of you lovely folks could point me in the right direction. I have an Intel i7-8700k and it is liquid cooled - at least I thought that far ahead haha. It is socketed into an MSI Z390 A Pro Motherboard. The BIOS seems relatively easy to navigate. I was wondering what settings I should change to SAFELY overclock this CPU.

I'm coming here because I cannot find the answer literally anywhere online. I've been trying to overclock my 8700k to 4.8GHz. As I'm running Prime95, the processor starts out at the 4.8GHz clock, but for some reason clocks go down as low as 3.8GHz and often hold ~4.1-4.2GHz. I'm on manual voltage control set at 1.31V currently and am unsure where to go.
