I've waited faithfully to see what AMD has to offer and am well pleased with their results. I've decided for the price (especially after discount) and my particular usecase however to stick with the currently sound and stable i7-7700K offering. If AMD Keeps it up they'll get my buy next round. I'm going to pair the i7 with the MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130973&cm_re=MSI_Z270_carbon-_-13-130-973-_-Product Now I'm seeing this board supports a broad range of memory speeds, and I'm seeing various memory brands, predominantly Corsair, G.Skill, Hyper X, and Geil are all vying for attention. -Does the speed rated on the stick chosen denote the maximum overclock available to that RAM, or is it the base clock your guaranteed with a potential to OC up to higher speeds? -Whats the benefit of just choosing a higher speed of ram outright?

Hi , I just bought an i7-7700k. I have an existing motherboard ( GA-H110-DS2 ) but im not sure what is the bios version. I didnt update the BIOS yes but i have sold my previous processor... Can i just plug in my 7700k and then update the bios after that? Yes i know i have a K processor and i know its a waste to use it on H110... heh.. changing the mobo next month. *EDIT* I found out that my mobo has a Q-Flash , now will that work with my 7700k plugged in , and just boot Q-Flash?

Alright well, it may seem like a really dumb question but do you think it could? I have had an i3-6100 for a while now and I am thinking of upgrading and I don't really want to buy another cooler. I assume that the answer is no....

Hey everybody, I've decided to retire my aging FX9590 chip, ram & motherboard which i've had for a few years... I'm look at either a Ryzen 7 1700X or a i7-7700K Intel processor. My gut is telling me to go Intel. Either way, I'm going G.Skill TridentZ memory and an ASUS motherboard, either TUF Mark 1 or Crosshair VI Hero... Just wanted to get people's thoughts before I pull the trigger... AJ

Hi, I just bought a new system and noticed my CPU's temperatures to be very high at almost no load. My CPU is an i7-7700k and I use the Noctua U12S as fan, according to HWMonitor, on the desktop my CPU idles at around 1-2% and is at 48°C. When playing HITMAN the processor peaks at 97% and the temperatures peak at 86°C. I tried Prime95 to stress test my CPU and at one point it even reached 100°C ! This is definitely not normal, is it? The Fans are indeed spinning and while HWMonitor shows the correct RPM's it also shows under the "Fans PWM" section that all fans are at 0%, what does that mean? I am really at a loss right now, is my CPU fan just not good enough? What is going on? Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

So, today was my birthday. Got a bunch of money, and I've been saving up for a while. I now have enough for the upgrades I've chosen out, but before doing anything I may regret, I want to ask for some more experienced opinions. Here's what I've chosen out, https://www.ple.com.au/Products/626537/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-Kabylake-42GHz-8MB-No-HSF-Retail-Box 2 * https://www.ple.com.au/Products/623707/Kingston-8GB-DDR4-ValueRAM-C15-2133MHz https://www.ple.com.au/Products/626663/ASRock-H270-Fatal1ty-Gaming-LGA1151-DDR4-ATX-Motherboard That is what I've found, but it's most certainly not set in stone. The max amount I'd like to spend is $800, and I'd prefer to get it all from ple (I live in Perth, Western Australia). I've never built a pc before, the current pc I have, I let the people building it choose the specs. This time I will be doing the upgrades myself. I'll be using the pc for gaming and coding. My current specs are: nVidia GeForce GTX 960 Intel i5-4460 8gb ddr3 ram ^^ Post copied from https://www.spigotmc.org/threads/pc-upgrades-opinions.268228/ To save reading of replies, here's the summary: Should get a good cooler, faster ram and a different motherboard. So, what I ask from you guys, is what kind of cooler? How fast ram, and what motherboard. It would be extremely helpful if you guys find the parts on the ple website.

Hi, I´ve been doing my research but the more I look into it, the more I feel overwhelmed by the amount if information out there. Primarely, I´m looking into buying myself a complete new workstation for professional 3D related tasks with multiple applications (Maya, Photoshop, Unreal Engine, rendering etc.) usually running at the same time. My currently chosen seller offers primarely intel and I boiled it down to choosing between: Intel Core i7-6850K 6x 3.60 GHz Intel Core i7-7700K 4x 4.20GHz According to what I´ve found out so far is that for gaming, the 7700K with it´s higher clock speed would be better but as my professional applications are more important to that, the 6850K with its extra 2 cores would be the better choice although coming with a smaler clock speed. Which one should I go for? Is there a better choice? I´m very thankful for any input!

so I built my friend his PC, but none of the case fans and CPU cooler fans turned on AFTER I finished installing Windows on his computer, its when I found out that the fans aren't plugged in correctly, what im worried about is, while installing windows and having my PC on, does the i7-7700k suffered any damages while the Noctua NH-D15 fans weren't blowing?

I achieved a 1.200v with a 4.8ghz OC on my 7700k AIDA64 Test I wanted to get this straight, so I can continue to lower my voltage run the AIDA64 Test for 20min+ and as long as i'm not experiencing any CPU Throttling or crashes I should be good? or does lowering voltage cause any other side effects that can't be seen with CAM or AIDA64?

Hello, I'm doing first time overclocking and need some opinions and/or tips from more experienced users. I'm struggling between whether to keep 4.9GHz or lower the overclock to 4.8GHz. My settings: 4.9GHz, 1.310 vcore, LLC level 4, AVX -2 4.8GHz, 1.240 vcore, LLC level 4, AVX -2 Things you should know: I don't want to risk shortening my cpu life just over a 0.1Ghz difference Gaming is really the most demanding thing I do with my PC daily, on top of that occasional HandBrake My cooling: (I value silence so my fans are only running at around half of their speed): Kraken X62 AIO cooler running in performance mode (50% fans / 750rpm, 100% pump) My case fans are running at 40%~50% / 600-750rpm Temperatures: (I'll compare Cinebench temps here just for reference) at 4.9GHz idle: 30-35 with occasional up to 40-50 gaming: going up to 79-80C Cinebench: cores max 82C, 83C, 87C, 91C room temp: 25-27C at 4.8GHz idle: 30-35 with occasional up to 40-50 gaming: haven't tested yet Cinebench: cores max 72C, 75C, 77C, 79C room temp: 25-27C So the ultimate question is, should I stay at 4.9GHz despite the temperatures (up to ~80C while gaming) or should I just drop the clock to 4.8GHz for temperatures' and cpu life span's sake? I want to be able to sell my cpu in the future and don't want to risk shortening the chip's life span significantly over a minor clock difference. Thank you in advance!

Hi guys, Look i know there probs a tone of this already, but id like to find out in regards to my own planned build. I plan on building a PC for mainly gaming use and maybe the occasional use for video rendering and stuff. But i dont really do any video stuff but would want to make sure that my cpu would still be okay for it if i ever did start doing that sort of stuff. (if ya know wat i mean) . I plan on using a GTX 1070. So it comes down to my question should i get and Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel i7-7700K? Any thoughts be appreciated. Cheers. Update* dont really intend on overclocking my cpu , not that wont but i just plan on playing fresh from the box .

Hi, I'm looking to get temps down and increase overclocking headroom. So the two best ways to do so from what I've read is liquid cooling and delidding. Running an i7-7700k Btw, currently with cryorig H7 but I'm gonna upgrade to liquid soon. So here are my questions: - Should I pay silicone lottery or some other service to delid it for me? Or should I do the delid myself? - If I hire a delidding service, is there a chance that they send me back a broken chip? Or none at all? - How much of a temperature difference does it really make? - Is it worth the voided warranty? Thanks guys!

Hi, I recently finshed building my gaming rig. Specs: i7-7700k MSI Z270 A PRO 16GB Ballistix DDR4 2400 Cryorig H7 Cooler So, here is the story, I am an animator and video editor and I need to sqeeze as much speed as I can out of my cpu. Currently I'm running at 4.8GHz with max temps during stress test at 75C. So my question is: If I upgrade my cooling to a corsair H100, can I reach 5.2GHz on all cores? Also another quick qestion, should I just put distilled water in my liquid cooler? Or should I put speical coolent in it(ex.thermaltake c1000 coolant). Hope you guys can help me!

Hi, I'm weighing the options for delidding and I'm curios about 2 things. #1. How often does intel 3 year limited warranty come in handy? I mean how often does an i7-7700k just stop working and the warranty is useful. #2. If I bought my cpu off amazon, and I delid, and my cpu dies, does amazon warranty still count? Btw I'm using an i7-7700k Thanks

im not sure if buying a i7-7700 is different than the i7-7700k I have heard that the i7-7700k should not be overclocked from intel, if you do not want to risk getting extreme high temperatures, and I have heard many other people that have said even if they are unclocked that they have experience unusual temperature spikes from 28-30c to a random 50-70c for a second or two, then it goes back down. And this does not happen to any other old generations of the core CPU's. But one of my friend has have it unclocked and had zero temperature spikes while using a noctua NH-D15 cooler with it Edit: this is for a friend, I decided to want to give him the i7-7700k instead of the i5-7600k I already bought which im giving it to my brother

I was planning on getting an i7-7700k for a new pc I'm building I was wondering if I should wait for the i7-8700k or just get the i7-7700k. I really want to get my new rig I have been waiting on it for a while and I don't know if waiting for the i7-7800k to get released and for it to be available where I live and the new motherboards with the Z370 chipset to get released. I really want to get my computer in the next week or so but if the 8700k is worth it I am considering waiting. Intel Ark 7700k vs 8700k So should I wait?

So to start off very briefly I am going to be building a custom pc with the following as parts: First here is the build: CPU: Intel i7-7700k GPU: Asus Strix GTX 1080 ti OC CPU cooler: NZXT Kraken x52 Case: Corsair Crystal 460x RGB HDD: Seagate Barracude 2tb SSD: 1TB Samsung 850evo Motherboard; Asus MAXIMUS IX FORMULA PSU: Corsair HX750i RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR4 Vengeance 3200MHz Extra case fans: 3xRGB SP120 Corsair + 2 AF120 Corsair I have a few questions to ask, but before I do, I am going to attach a sketch (it is an appalling work of art) of how I was thinking of putting all this together. Yes it does look like an aardvark, when it comes to art, but I've tried to illustrate my build plan well, and marked the directions of airflow in green marker to highlight them. 1) Am i going overkill with the fans? And is there even space for them? 2) a) Im curious to if the gtx 1080ti that I have chosen is good and performs well amongst all the other choices there are out there b) Im hoping to one day purchase a second gtx 1080 ti and run sli on my pc. The current card I have chosen takes up 2.5 slots to my understanding, however I have no clue if my motherboard will support 2 x 2.5 slots. Could you help me out? c) If I do plan on going into SLI, would I need a better PSU (like a 1000W?) If it does not, could you recommend 2 cards of similar performance with overclockable headroom that could run sli on my current motherboard 3) Im hesitating between the case i've currently put up, the Corsair 570X, or the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv Glass case. Are there any advantages or disadvantages between these 3 and what would you personally recommend? 4) Any other pieces of advice you can give me? Im 100% set on the processor as it is. Everything else, I am happy to receive your potential replacement recommendations for, as well as a reason for your recommendation.

Hello LTT forums, this is my first post for my first ever PC build, not great at being wordy, getting down to business: I am building a high end mini Itx enthusiast PC, not sure what it will be used for yet, just kind of enjoying spending my life's savings building this cool little machine. The whole point of this build is to make a powerful water cooled overclock-able system in the smallest and/or coolest and/or most unique form factor that I can make. I will be using a combination of stainless brush finished steel and borosilicate (pyrex) glass. I have a few different design options in mind, but still have no written/drawn designs yet as I don't yet have my water cooling loop, and want to visually see how everything fits together, plus procrastination. If anyone has any input, tips, design theme ideas, or any suggestions, I would be most obliged. Thanks for reading, mkeras The 'interesting' parts. Since I took the picture a couple days ago I have changed the 16gb 2400Mhz vengeance lpx RAM to G-Skill 32gb 3200Mhz RAM. CPU air cooler was just to test the system before water cooling it. Made the test bench myself out of UHMW plastic using water jet machine and undersizing the holes slightly to be able to put screws in without having to tap them, turned out fairly well for the amount of effort put into it %85 complete part list, still have to decide on some minor parts such as extra radiator and fans, fittings, etc. https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/D9mwQV

Hello I finaly did it. Gathered all my courage and delided my i7-7700k because of the abnormally high temperatures. Replaced the TIM with Coollab liquid pro and reattached the lid with (black) High temp silicone. It all went smoothly. I did this one hour ago. As it is drying inside the relid tool i'm wondering how long i have to let it dry before i can take it back into service. Thx in advance
