I'm having some trouble finding a good overall motherboard for my i7-4790k. I would be overclocking to around 4.8Ghz - 5Ghz. I would prefer it to look gamerish and under $200. can somebody help me?

Greetings, I'm looking for feedback and suggestions for what I can do to spice up my rig a little. Currently, I am happy with it's looks, but I'd like to add something to promote the components inside somehow. Any suggestions for improvements? I do know RGB lighting strips exist, of course, but I would prefer something which doesn't make it look like a Christmas at the Griswolds. Hi, My mobo recently stopped working due to weak core ic ( as quoted by the it technicians ) and was recommended to change psu as well.... My setup is an i7-4790k with noctua nh-d14 cooler, 2 hyperx fury 8gb 1866mhz ddr3 ram, a gigabyte gtx 760 windforce 3x oc, on an Asus z97k and corsair vs650... I'm looking for a budget motherboard ... Pls don't suggest the maximus hero 7 as it's way too expensive here in India.. and most of the motherboards are out of stock.. And a decent psu with 600 or 650 w range.. I might add another gpu next year. Thank you.

Hi I'm a noob overclocker, but I now have cooling to get more juice out of my PC. TL;DR go to bottom of this post My CPU is Intel i7-4790K and my MOBO is Asus Z97-PRO Gamer (BIOS Version 2107 11/11/2015), I have a 4.6 Ghz overclock atm., I checked Linus's video guide to overclocking 4790K and other videos. First of all, I don't have XMP as an option in my AI Overclock Tuner, and I have come to the conclusion that a static overclock is easier for me, I tried changing to adaptive/offset, but too advanced for me atm. I will provide you with pictures of the only settings I have changed while achieving my 4.6 Ghz overclock. Red ring is settings I have changed, everything else is on default (auto) with my 4.6 Ghz overclock. Someone in a video guide pressed in some numbers at the CPU Cache Voltage, so I tried that once, but since I don't know how it works I didn't go further, and just put it on Auto again. THE ISSUE At some point I had a 4.7 Ghz overclock, but I don't remember the voltage numbers and settings I used, I later went back to a very basic 4.6 Ghz static overclock instead of trying with adaptive. The problem with the 4.7 Ghz overclock I had was that it was fine in RealBench and games, but I also tried to convert video in the stand-alone program Handbrake, but it just stopped after seconds. (I read something about there's a difference in having a stable overclock of zero's and one's and converting, which may be somewhat different in that regard, requiring a flow of data with no small pauses, idk.) So I went back to 4.6 Ghz with no settings I don't understand(images provided above^), because with that all my noob tests went through with no issues. MY PLAN, please help My plan is to hear you guys if you think my plan is great and then do the following, my plan is to add more voltage in small steps to try to achieve a stable 4.7Ghz, but maybe you guys know that I should change something else as well to go further? Maybe the CPU Core Ratio and the CPU Core Voltage isn't the only options I should change? Thanks in advance I do know I should use better stress testing and for longer time, but I just want it to work first. And maybe it's time to update BIOS again.

Hi! made this post cause I wondered if my CPU can read the right temps when its minus degrees celsius. My CPU reads -11C, while my phase change is pendling between -44,5C and -45C. So is my CPU doing the right readings? **edit, Solved!! Answear: Right readings**

Wondering what other people's temps are with their i7-4790K's running stock speeds with air cooling. Answer the poll above and post what Air Cooler Heatsink you're using. Or maybe I should make a Google Form for this... I've toyed around with the idea that it's possible I either choose the wrong heatsink, or I'm just overreacting here. This is why I'm openly asking what other people's temps are with their i7-4790K's running stock on air cooling. My i7-4790K is around 50 degrees Celsius at stock 4.0GHz with a Phanteks TC12LS air cooler. This is at IDLE, under load it goes up to 80 Celsius. Is this optimal?

I am currently running an i7-4790K on a Gygabyte Z97 nWifi mITX mobo, 700W PSU from coolermaster 80plus Gold, 16Gb kingston Hyperx Fury ram,all in a Thermaltake Core V1 case. My question is: Upgrading to a GTX 1070 is it worth it?

Hi guys, I'm dealing with something I've never saw before, either on my current CPU or my previous ones. I re-applied thermal paste (Artic MX-2, the same one I had before) on my CPU, like I always do with a cross pattern to be sure it spreads everywhere, and when stress testing the CPU, I noticed extremely high load temperatures (~90-100°C) on the first core while getting 60-70°C on the other ones. This was not the case before. I tried OCCT, Prime95, Cinebench and a bit of video rendering, same pattern everytime. In gaming (30-40% load scenarii), the first one can get a little hotter than the others, but it stays below 75°C. At idle, all cores are always around 30°C and the first one usually 3 or 4° higher which is perfectly normal. I looked at temps with CAM, OCCT, HWMonitor and SpeedFan. I obviously thought of an unevenly re-mounted cooler as well as unevenly applied thermal paste so I tried to do all of this carefully, 3 times. No changes. Great idle temps and one core going crazy on load. I know the thermal paste is applied correctly, I know the cooler is mounted correctly, so I wanted to know if someone had a magical idea to help me understand that crazy behavior. I thought of a defective detector, but I can't verify this hypothesis. Any input would be appreciated, thanks EDIT : oh and I forgot, I'm running it at 4.6GHz and 1.2V

Hey guys! So, I'm not yet upgrading my CPU, but atleast I can look around for 2nd hand CPU's, right now I'm rocking a Z97 PC Mate motherboard, with an i5-4460 3,2 GHz. And I want to know if it's best upgrading to a i7-4770k or i7-4790k, and if so, how much cheaper should the 4770k be, before I should consider that one instead of the 4790k?

Umm not that I am planning to build a PC myself or anything but a guy I know who has a i7-4790K and a GTX 980 is buying a new pre-built with a i7-6800K and a GTX 1080, is his upgrade worth it or is it a waste of money? (I did tell him upgrade would be better but yeah he is a lazy ass and he want a new PC...) Other upgrades is a 850 Evo and a SSHD 2TB for storage... (he may also remove his old HDD using it for extra storage before selling his old PC...) BTW: I am sure he only upgraded to brag he got a better PC than our other friend who has a i7-6700K + GTX 980Ti...

Hey LTT. Short run up to my problem: Last night, no problem at all, this morning, no problem at all, but a few hours later when I got home from the gym my fans were running FULL speed and MSI command center was saying 99°C on my CPU temp measuerer so I semi-panic and check things out, joblist is showing my CPU to be running at less than 10% load. I turned my system off and on again and it's still the same problem. I turn it off and take it for disasembly, cleaned the CPU, the cooler and added new thermal paste while resetting the BIOS. I also tried as best as possible to see if there was anything wrong with the liquid inside the cooler, but since I didn't want to void the warranty I did not open it up. I tried shaking as best as I could and it seemed like there was flow for the liquid, so no gunk stuck in the tubes. Taking it back to my desk to test if that fixed it, I load it up. The motherboard doesn't give me a error code in the two digits, so I load up BIOS and look around and after a minute or so, the fans starts going crazy again and I look at the monitor page and this is what I see... Now it says the CPU fan 2 isn't running, but I could visibly see that it was spinning at full speed, hear both of them and also feel the air. Just for the sake of it, here are my system specs. Cooler Master G750M, 750W PSU Cooler Master Nepton 120XL CPU Cooler HyperX Beast DDR3 2400MHz 16GB (Kit of 2) MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB OC Corsair Obsidian 450D Midi Tower Black Intel Core i7-4790K My system is just about 1 year old and wasn't overclocked when this happend. I suspect it may have something to do with the CPU coolers measurer, but to be honest I have no idea what it could be at this point. I hope that any of you guys may be able to come to my rescue with this problem.

So after debating how i was going to go about it, as i am pretty novice and weary about oc's. I got the gigabyte z97x gaming 7 mobo because i heard good feedback with the features for novice to more experienced individuals. Figured was a good balance. I got the EastTune app from gigabyte. Ran the auto oc feature. it got up to 4.7ghz. Pretty cool i guess. Well, I was wondering why when i open XTU as before it would sit at a certain ghz, now it goes between 4.5x and 4.65xghz? Is that normal? I did the XTU stress test and got 931 marks. but i noticed at some points it wasnt at 100% cpu usage. Why was that? now here i also have some questions, should i change these values of the cores in this tab to match 47? What are the benifits/risks of this? My educated guess is that is why its bouncing from 4.5/4.6x GHZ? I also noticed after i did the OC, i went an clicked on the advanced oc tab just to look@the settings i noticed that the 4 cores i seen this core1: 47 core2: 47 core3: 46 core4: 45

Hello everyone! I am fairly new to the forum and I would like to ask a question regarding the purchase of a new CPU. I am currently using an i5-4460 on a H81 motherboard from Medion (but really from MSI, I don't get that either) with 16 gigs of RAM and a GTX 960 STRIX from Asus and I would like to upgrade to a new CPU (and later upgrade my motherboard to be able to overclock the new CPU. I need to do this at a later stage because of the rather small budget). After some research I came to the conclusion that an i7-4790K would be a good CPU to buy. Then, after a couple night laying awake in bed I realised that this chip was almost 2 years old. I started to doubt my choice and now I don't know anymore what I should buy. Unfortunately, I do not have the money to upgrade to a Skylake CPU because of the additional costs of DDR4 RAM and a new motherboard with the right socket. What is your opinion of this? Sincerely, GForce P.S. I should also mention that I usually play games and watch streams at the same time on my secondary monitor and that the stream starts buffering a ton (like 60 second+ delay on the streamer, kinda destroys the experience...) when I play even the less demanding titles.

Hello everyone! I am planning on building my first pc (after the death of my old laptop). I want to know if I am doing any mistakes or if something could be improved (1400€ Budget) I will build this rig around June-July so I don't know if I should wait for Pascal GPUs or not. Here's the build: Case: Corsair Carbide 450D CPU: Intel Core i7-4790k CPU cooler: Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 (Turned 90° so the writing is normal and fan toward the top as exhaust, remove the side fan for GPU clearance) Mobo: Asus Z97-Pro (Wi-Fi ac) Memory: Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 2 x 4 Go 1600 MHz GPU: Asus GTX 970 Strix OC Storage: Samsung SSD 850 pro 128 Go (owned) and scavenge the 500 Go HDD of my dead laptop at first Power Supply: Corsair RMx 750W (possible SLI?) Fans: Dual Pack Corsair AF140 Quiet Edition (front intake) + Single AF120 Quiet Edition (rear intake) I also intend to make this build semi-passive for silence (all fans at 0 rpm if the computer is not under load). I will not overclock in the first time. Sorry for my English, it is not my native language.

Hey, Since I am completely new to PC building, could I have your opinion of the aforementioned motherboard (Asrock z97 Annivesary) with a i7-4790k, crucial ballistix sport RAM, gtx970 and a wifi card? Questions: Will there be too little space for my wifi card/RAM? I am using a cooler master seidon 120V. Overclocking performance? BIOS of asrock MOBOs?

Hi everyone!!I need some help here. My computer is having the temperature of 35-39C for idle. To be honest, since I am using a good water cooler, I was expecting that the temperature of my CPU to be around <25C (room temperature). I am sure that the thermal paste was installed correctly so as the other components and I updated the newest BIOs. I read this https://communities.intel.com/docs/DOC-23517 and changed the settings, however, the situation remained the same, the temperature is still very high. I am not sure what was the cause of this. It would be great if u guys could tell/suggest me the best solution for solving this thing. If u guys need more information, I would be delighted to provide but u might have to explain it in detailed because I'm just an amateur in computersCurrent Situation:https://www.dropbox.com/s/sddtqfcwiwbsnoo/Screenshot%20...Extra informationhttps://www.dropbox.com/s/vba20q4evd3qq85/Screenshot%20...Stress test using Intel ETUhttps://www.dropbox.com/s/wsgeedq4dyfszhs/Screenshot%20...My Computer SpecsCPU: i7-4790kMotherboard: Asus Maximus VII rangerGPU: GTX 980CPU cooler: GT H110i water coolingRAM: 16GB 1600mhzPower supply: Centauro XTK-CB-1000M 80plus bronze 1000wCase: Corsair Graphite Series 960tMy goals:Ideal CPU idle temperature: <25CIdeal clock speed: 4.5-4.6 GHzIdeal stress test temperature: <75C

Ok So about 3 days ago i was playing an average game of CSGO on my computer i was currently dead in a round so i decided to pull up youtube on my second monitor it was going fine for 20 seconds then my audio derped around and went back to normal once i started playing again Later that round my frame rates dropped suddenly and went back up... finally my audio crashed like it would in gmod and both of my monitors went red with faint horizontal lines. But thats not all After rebooting it did the same thing but after that. Windows didn't load... at all So i went and took a blast to the past of good old 2009 with a clean install of windows 7 installed the drivers for my mother board a gigabyte z97x sli "Ultra Durable" and it went fine, Then i went to the load up csgo in steam, Didn't play.. so i said to myself "Oh wait, i forgot the drivers" So i installed my Radeon drivers like i usual do for my R9 270 and i restarted my computer aaaaand she's not booting windows... Fudge.. Do the same things windows 7 mobo drivers, but i try to install windows 10 and it just won't install for the life of itself. So i format the drive and only install windows 7 and the mobo drivers. It's working fine At this point my HDMI is STILL running through the card and displaying video but won't play games, like CS 1.6 a game that came out in the year 2001 CAN'T GET MORE THAN 5 FPS?!? At this point i believe either my Video card or HDD has something wrong with it. I have more of a primary believe upon my GPU being dead but i'm not sure and i haven't gotten a chance to test everything If there is any tips or tricks you know of that would help me in this situation that would be great Also confirming my GPU is dead would be nice too. Considering im still running video through it and my Deviece manager is not picking it up im sooo confused right now Thanks for your time to read this guys! Mean a lot coming from a scrub like me. -SwitchTheBit

Not going to lie, I have a superb setup. Details below. But I have $100 that I get to spend, and am wondering if there is any ideas you guys might have to help boost my performance? Maybe make it look cooler? I just don't know what to get... Setup: Case: NZXT H440 in Black and Blue Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mach 1 with custom painted blue shield Processor: i7-4790k with custom laser etched Swiftech Apogee XL Graphics Card: EVGA Titan X superclocked with EK Acetal + Nickel full cover waterblock RAM: 16GB G. At least not within the $100 range. Unless I am missing something somehow? Non of my games (even crysis 3) run below the 144Hz mark on the highest settings, I could not really get a better processor for gaming (the i7-6700k has proven to be a terrible successor when it comes to games). I am honestly at a loss. I don't like flashy, so decals and figurines are out. I like that it is quiet and mostly hidden away. I have all the storage and speed I could possibly need/want. I am just at a loss is all. Does anybody have any ideas?

Hello, Yesterday I got a new CPU, the Intel Core i7-4790K with the stock cooler. I was looking for the temperatures because I've heard they are high. I found out it ran at 65 degrees celcius (149 fahrenheit) when it ran at 20% of full load. I got the stock cooler. I ran the CPU at 100% load with Prime95 and the temps were exceeding 93 degrees celcius! When I run the CPU at 5% it is 43 degrees average. Are these temps safe? Ok guys I currently have a very old PC and when I say old, I mean it... It has Intel DG41WV Motherboard, 4GB DDR3, Core 2 Duo processor, that's it! nothing else. So I wanna upgrade to the following specs:- MSI Z97 Gaming 5 Intel i7-4790k MSI GTX 970 4g Corsair Water Cooling H100i Corsair Carbide Series Air 540 - High Airflow Mid Tower Corsair power supply based on how big of a power supply required If you guys have suggestions let me know. But that's not the actual question. I'm low on budget so I will have to be saving up for everything on my own and that's gonna be tough given the fact that my parent are not helping me with this and so its gonna take some time to complete since the build is a bit expensive for me. So I was wondering if I can buy the MSI GTX 970 4g from the new build and use it on my old PC. Any suggestion is appreciated.
