Hey all, i've installed an MSI gaming x trio 2080 two days ago. Since then theres been nothing but problems. My entire PC starts lagging at random points for seemingly no reason. There will be times where i'm just scrolling through forums, imgur or watching a youtube vid and everything starts to stutter. The entire day it went well, but now suddenly it started happening again and i don't know why. I've run my virus scanner multiple times, same with Malwarebytes and Roguekiller. Sometimes when looking through speccy i see my CPU cores be stable, constantly. But then one of them will drop to 800 instead of 4100 MHZ. I don't know what that means, I asked my friend to screenshare her speccy on her CPU, since we have the same one. The i5 8600K and hers is all over the place, going from 800 all the way up to 4100, jumping numbers all the time. But she has no problems, none that she is aware of at least. Other than that, when i open up task manager i sometimes see my processor jump to 50% or higher while i'm doing nothing but look at forums. And then it jumps back down to the regular 10%. And with my GPU, while watching vids mostly. I look at the GPU tab in task manager and it sometimes jumps all the way up to 90% GPU usage while watching a youtube video. I don't know what to do, i'm really panicking honestly. Heres some screenshots of Speccy just in case. My PSU is 80+ Plat 1200W I've never paid attention to any of this before the new GPU, so i don't know if this is normal or not. All i know is that after i installed the new GPU, its been impossible to play games and sometimes even to just watch videos on youtube, netflix or anything else. Really some of you can help. If you need any more info just tell me.

So my goals are: overclock the living crap out of that chip, hopefully (and with a lot of luck) hitting the magic 5GHz mark with a 240mm aio from corsair (H100i V2). I was looking at the Z370 Pro4, because generally people say it's a good overclocking mobo, and it's dirt cheap here in italy (€100), I'm just worried about the VRMs being cooled by...well...nothing. Tbh that's all I can really afford, maybe I could up the budget by €50 by going with 8GB ram instead of 16. Does anybody have any better suggestions in that price range? Is the Z370 Extreme4 that much better (its almost 50€ more expensive here)?

I will try to keep this as short as possible to not waste you time.. I've build my own pc whitch contains the following hardware: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/PlzGivMonej/saved/Q4QxYJ It's been working fine for like 7,5 months but has recently starting acting weirdly. It's hard to explain but I'll try. For example while playing league of legends I get a very nice fps but it's not smooth. It like quickly freezes in frame and then it jumps back to normal. This happens like once every 3 seconds and it's really ruinning the experience. This is rather special for league but if I play BF1, I just isn't as smooth as it used to be. It feels like I'm playing on a 30hz monitor when I have a 144hz monitor. It overall feel like my pc just downgraded. I've done mcafee's virucheck which says that I don't have any viruses. I've also carefully cleaned my computer from dust, ran a Ccleaner and I really don't know what to do =( I would be greatful if you gave me some advice!

Hello to whoever is reading this, I decided to finally switch over from a laptop that I’ve had for several years now, the main reason why I’m deciding to build a pc is because my laptop can no longer handle any games I run without overheating or seeing low FPS/Drops. The Pc Rig that I hope to build will be mainly used for Gaming and other everyday uses(School Work, Web browsing) that won’t put such a work load on my pc. I put together a pc part list linked below. As for what advice and help I’m looking for is either a whole new build which can fit my budget of $1000 you can go over $100 or $200 if it improves performance and better for the long run, or exchange parts in my current build that can help reach my budget goal. As for the games I will be running are CS:GO, GTA V, Fortnite, Gmod. Main concerns -Good Airflow -Overclocking -High, Ultra or Max settings (on games) -No serious FPS Drops/Bottlenecking I will be responding immediately to any questions if I am available Thank you for helping and taking time out of your day PCPartPicker part list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qJydFt Price breakdown by merchant: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qJydFt/by_merchant/ CPU: Intel - Core i5-8600K 3.6GHz 6-Core Processor ($238.99 @ Amazon) CPU Cooler: Deepcool - GAMMAXX 400 White 74.3 CFM CPU Cooler ($37.99 @ Amazon) Motherboard: Asus - Prime Z370-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($169.06 @ Amazon) Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($164.99 @ Newegg) Storage: ADATA - Ultimate SU800 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($54.99 @ Newegg Marketplace) Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($57.99 @ Amazon) Video Card: Zotac - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB AMP! Hey guys, i'm totally new to this overclocking thing. I have recently build a new gaming system and am interested in doing some mild overclocking. I'm currently running on a, Z370 Gaming plus Mobo i5 8600k Cyrorig H7 Quad Lumi Seasonic 650w psu I'm interested to know a few things, 1) is it possible to overclock to 4.5 ghz with my current air cooler? Roughly what kind of temps would i be looking at this speed? 2) I did a bit of reading and what are the "safe voltages" at? I see quite a few users saying its at 1.28 to 1.375v 3) Do i need to update to the latest bios version before overclocking? 4) Is my current PSU enough to do this overclocking? Really would appreciate any help here, I mainly game a lot on RPG, RTS & MMO games. I have always been interested in trying my hand at overclocking, to get that extra performance power but at the same time been too afraid to try.

Hi, I am looking to upgrade my current CPU (i5 4460) with an i5 8600k but i'm stuck on what cooler to get for it that would keep the temps under control and allow it to always boost to 4.2 GHz. Also I only have 160mm in my case to work with. I'm looking at a hyper 212 EVO will this be ok? Thanks

Hi Guys, So I overclocked my i5 8600k to 5.0ghz @ 1.34V. Its not (yet) delided but temps are ok at max mid 70's deg C during max synthetic benchmarks. in real life gaming it never reach 60 deg C at ave room temp of 27 deg C. Prime95, passed at 8 hours Asus Realbench passed at 8 hours Intel XTU Passe at 8 hours Long hours of gaming, no crashes or whatsoever, smooth AF No any throttling recorded by HWinfo/Intel XTU. My problem is, when i do restart my PC (either hard reset or just restart from windows icon at lower left), it will boot and go to BSOD, collect freaking info and will proceed. When I shut down and power it up, there is no BSOD. What am I missing? what have I done wrong? Please help me.. My Rig (if it helps) MOBO: MSI Z370m gaming pro AC CPU: i5 8600k GPU: MSI gamingX 1080 8GB PSU: CM V750 Full Modular RAM: 2x 8GB ddr4 CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2 SSD: WD Green 240GB (OS Win10 installed) NVME: PM981 512GB (installed games, got samsung nvme controller/driver) HDD: 1 TB Toshiba 7200 rpm (for keeping Pron) and some noctua fans on all slots (except the rad) Thanks in advanced for Your time and advice. EDIT: Uploaded the BSOD. Thanks

Hello guys I'm planing in building new pc for working and gaming ( I play strategy games -total war series- planing on playing warhammer 2 on it) for work it's almost computing nothing i can't do on my labtop but still speed is good, my CPU budget is around 240 usd I was thinking on ryzen 7 1700, ryzen 5 2600x or i5-8600k, i can squeeze myself a little and get ryzen 7 1800x with 239 usd and a 20$ fan, Other option is to buy the i7-8700 but then i will ruin my budget. So my question is what do u think its better for me i will pair it with gtx 1080 Also is it better to buy ryzen 1800x and a cooler master water cooling ML240L rgp or a i7-8700 with normal fan ?

I don't know if it is a sign there is something not right with my cpu? When i overclock should i pay atention to even little freezes or just the big ones? I'm getting crazy

Hi Guys, So it’s my first time to do overclocking and will want to get Your opinion and advice on the results I got. Please bear with me on reading this. My system as follows: CPU: i5 8600k, OC’ed at 5ghz, 1.325v CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2 (push config, intake at front, changed fans to noctua nf-f12 ippc 3000) MOBO: MSI Z370m gaming pro AC PSU: Cooler Master V750 Gold Full Modular GPU: Zotac GTX 1070 Mini RAM: 2x8 GB DDR4 2133 (from my old system) PC Case: Tecware nexus m Fans: 2 aio rad fans intake (noctua), 2 exhaust at top, 1 exhaust at rear Ambient Temp: average 25 degree Celsius Program used for stability test: Intel XTU (im testing an intel chip, so makes sense to use an intel program?) run it for 1 and a half hour Temp Monitoring App: HWinfo 64 Others: CPU-Z, Heaven Benchmark So here’s are my enquiries: See attached screen shot a) Will I be fine at 5ghz, 1.325V? At full OCed load via intel XTU, max temp is at 74 degrees, idle at below 40 deg, Average at 65-70 deg. Voltage barely hits 1.32V, max actual TDP is 80W b) I have another OC profile which is just 4.5 ghz @ 1.26V, should I stick to this? I don’t do rendering nor video editing. Just some heavy Autocad and 2-3 hours gaming at night. Any significant gain from 4.5ghz to 5ghz for my usage? c) Before this test (on screen shot) I OC’ed my RAM from 2133mhz to 2667 mhz via the mobo feature which gives preset OC setting, and I get the blue screen of death with any speed-voltage combination. When I disable it and just returned to back 2133mhz, everything seems to be normal and smooth (so far). Can You educate me what is the reason behind this? I really want to learn new things like this. (my not in a PC/IT line of work). just a casual gamer. d) Any advice regarding my case-fan setup? When I run heaven benchmark, CPU usage is below 40%, temps are below 65deg, but my GPU is around 72deg max (not overclocked, fan curve are set at 100% at 60deg). Thanks in advanced Guys, Cheers!

overclocking OC i5 8600K Adaptive or Override?
Arwinnd posted a topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
Hi, i have a question. I've done my research and its not that big of a difference when i have overclocked CPU vs default one in power consumption (measured with wattmeter). In this case i think I would be better to leave my voltage on override and not to mess with adaptive or offset mode. My BIOS settings for VCore is 1.3 V with 4.8GHz OC for i5 8600K CPU. Temperatures are in my opinion low, because they only reach 60 degrees Celsius. Is it a real deal, that my CPU will live so much shorter when I use override versus adaptive or offset with CStates? I don't want to mess around more, and VCore on offset seems a little to high at momements. What do you think? -
Hi, Just been overclocking my i5 8600k and managed to get it to 5ghz. Sadly it will crash during the cinebench benchmark. It will shut off and blue screen. Is it because my power supply isnt capable of handling the overclock? Currenty PSU : EVGA SuperNova G3 650W Gold Cheers.

i originally built my PC with the intention of only running league of legends at max settings at 1440p 144hz, well things changed and i want to run more games at 144fps without having to drop the quality to very low. so im trying to decide on a couple things. i haven't built an "enthusiast" grade pc in a while and i have a couple things i am worried about holding me back. I only have a 650w psu I don't know if i should buy an 8600k or wait for 9600k I also don't know if i should just sell my current pc since i am also planning on upgrading to the next consumer grade nvidia card (1180 or rtx 2080) or if i should just get a i7 6700 for $200 since my board is b250 and stick with my GTX 1080 for a little while longer. I also don't know if the next gen of pc hardware will be worth picking up. i have an i5 7500 that runs at 3.9 max. i dont even get 144fps in league on medium settings. and i am relatively sure this is my bottleneck right now. IDK guys i need help. i want to do a major oc on a new pc if i get one. i plan on getting a pre binned cpu from silicon lottery and i want to run it at 5.2ghz and i dont know if a 650w psu could take it.

Hi guys, first time posting here so please bear with me. I'm wondering which of the two processors (Intel Core i5-8600K or AMD Ryzen 1700) is best for game development? I'm planning to use it with Unity, Blender and maybe another graphic rendering tool. Thanks!!!

Looking for help in deciding which CPU i should choose to get the best performance out of my MSI GTX 1060 6GB GPU. I will have to upgrade my mobo and my RAM no matter which CPU i choose so that is not a concern at the moment. I currently have the GPU paired with a FX8350 on an ASUS Crosshair Formula V mobo with 16gb RAM. I am at the moment debating between the i5 8400 and the i5 8600k. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I just got the meshify c by fractal and the coolermaster airmaker 8 for my i5 8600k (that i had a evo 212 temporarily on) and now I want to overclock. I used my motherboards recommended 5 ghz oc profile and I easily hit 84 c running PUBG for a couple of seconds. Specs: Meshify C (air cooling case) i5 8600k Asus Strix Gaming-H (x370) 16 gb ddr4 GTX 1080 Fan config: 2 infront intaking 1 exhausting in back 2 fans that are on the cooler itself (push and pull i assume) the cooler master logo isnt upside down so i assume its blowing the right way Thermal Paste: Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Compound Any help would be appreciated! P.S I'm new to this overclocking stuff hence why i used to profile on my motherboard edit: This might be useful. The fans I bought didn't have air flow direction indicators so I spun it and I felt air on one side and not the other. Both front fans' logos are facing inside and exhaust is facing outside.

So I'm going to buy a motherboard, and I'm planning to use the i5 8600k. I found 2 good ones, but need help picking one of them. It's either Asus Rog Strix Z370-F Gaming or Asus Prime Z370-A, I'm also open to other suggestions.
