Hi guys, Would a I3 Cooler -not sure which i3, however the heatsink hasn't got the copper bit- work on a i5-3570k?

hey guys ! currently i have to make a decision between an intel i3 4150 and a pentium g3258. the pc is for my dad and he only use the pc for Excel and Chrome in general (youtube in particular). i have an idea of using it as a "nas" to backup games ecc but my question is: is the integrated graphics worse than the i3 ? and will be enough to handle 1080p youtube videos ? this is the current idea (fell free to suggest changes): http://i.imgur.com/5SBTKz2.png

I was just thinking- Why doesn't Intel allow for overclocking on all their CPUs or at least have "K" series i3 Budget CPUs? (i.e. a i3-4130K) Not only would this make us the consumer happy, but really that could almost kill AMD as people would be able to run around with a i3 running at i5 speeds. Take for instance the launch of the Pentium G2358 People went crazy over it, thought it was amazing the fact a $70 CPU could be overclocked to 4-5Ghz was (Quoting Linus here) Balls to the walls performance .

So today i returned home from school ready to start my much needed week break. I jumped into BF4 played a game and it ended. As usual, the game dumped me at the scoreboard and then the next game's loading screen popped up. as soon as I deployed, though, things started spiraling. The game crashed for one, dumping me at desktop. Everything I had open (corsair link and firefox) were whited out, showing nothing but the frame. I closed them all with task manager and immediately started up firefox. as soon as I did this, my screens turned solid colors (main one red, smaller one blue) and it stayed that way for a few seconds before doing a hard reboot. It took me back to the sign in screen, and as soon as I did, both screens started flashing red at random rates. then it hard rebooted again. it did this a few more times before i was finally able to log in. what could this be? my system is almost 2 now and I plan on building a much nicer one in the near future (hence the RM1000) but i need this one to hold up until then. Help? Video Specs: i3 2100 Asrock H77 Pro4/MVP 2x Sapphire Radeon 7770 Ghz. edition 8gb. of G.Skill Ripjaws X @ 1866mhz corsair RM1000 psu

Now I've been doing some digging and i'm planning a build for my friend. We're trying to keep it as close to $650 (w/ Windows included) as possible. According to Austin Evens >Link< my best 3 choices are: AMD Athlon 760K/860K (MSI A78M-E35 Micro ATX) OR (MSI H81M-P33 Micro ATX) Pentium G3258/Core i3 4150. While the Pentium will basically beat the AMD side of things when OC, my friend will not be doing any OCing & wants the best performance outta the box. With Mantle & DX12 beginning to take advantage of more than 2 cores whos to say the AMD side will soon be back in the running against Intel in the battle of budget CPUs. But I want to know what you guys think? Personally I own a machine w/ a 760K it plays everything on 1080p just fine (expect for big AAA titles due to 650Ti). >As far as I know he wants to play: Star Wars TOR, Battelfield 3,4, & Hardline, CoDs, & maybe a couple other games at high+ setting 1080p.

Hi all, I was asked by my cousins who live out of town to build a gaming PC for them - (they're upgrading from something from 2006!) I bought a R9 280 (Price was right + the 3 free games.) and a i3 4360 since the games they mentioned they want to play include titles like StarCraft II, Diablo III, etc. The 4360 has a frequency of 3.7 GHz which I believe is the second-highest clocked i3 chip, behind the 4370. The system will be on Win 8.1 with 8 gigs of RAM. I think the CPU and GPU ought to be a good pairing, but I thought I'd ask LTT if there would be, in any way, a bottleneck. Thanks for reading.

Hi, planning a build for the future... So I just saw the i3 4160 being sold at our place, and I wanna put it in a H81M-K.... It says it supports it but I think I need to do a Bios update in order to make it work... Now the question is, if I put the i3 4160 in that mobo, will it work? if not, how do I update the bios without an OS? Here's the link to the CPU support list of the Mobo http://www.asus.com/ph/Motherboards/H81MK/HelpDesk_CPU/

I have a i3 4130 and a MSI R9 270, and I want to crossfire it with another R9 270 While I wait for broadwell to come out, or Devils Canyon if they will have K Sku processors. Quite interesting in Upgrading and kinda want to go with the Toc, Unless the refresh will be really good My question is, would I be able to crossfire another R9 270 and factoring in the not perfect crossfire scaling and the CPU might not be able to handle all the power, How much of a performance gain would I get, and how much total performance would I be missing out on (vs say 4670k OC'd)? And I'd really only like Answers from people who have experience with an i3, would be great if it was the same 4130, because it somewhat of a beast , Refer to Austin Evans Video on i3 4130 vs 4670k (granted at clock speeds) Don't want to go AMD there is plenty of reviews of the i3 keeping up or outrunning a 8350 in gaming...But the i3 Slaughters it in Single threaded apps Currently getting AVG of 55-60FPS Ultra 1080p in Battlefield 4, Multiplayer will hover between 50-100 depending on explosions etc,

My i3 works a charm, but I don't know what to think on getting a better cpu: Core i5: Better but no Hyperthreading--- Cheap to get Core i7: With Hyperthreading--- Too damn expensive... i5 is easy to afford but it doesn't have any hyperthreading but I want hyperthreading.... What benefits will I get from this and what drawbacks will I get if not buying non hyperthread CPU.. Yes, the i3 also has Hyperthread stuff but I NEED MORE POWER.... BUrrrrrrrrrRRrrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrr.... And....... should I also upgrade my memory?

What do you think of this as a budget CPU? I don't really know how it performs but I like how it's on the same socket as an i5-4670K for an easy upgrade. Also does the face that it has hyperthreading help it at all?

So I'm looking to replace the CPU on my dad's laptop which seems to be crapping out on him. The laptop is an HP Pavilon DV4-2165dx, with a Core i3 330m, socket bga1288. I've watched videos of someone replacing the cpu on this laptop, so I know the CPU isn't soldered on the motherboard. But i am curious, however, if it is possible to upgrade this cpu to an i7 660ue. I was told that laptops are picky with what cpus they accept. this is the cpu I want http://tinyurl.com/d7vcdns and this is the laptop http://tinyurl.com/cch8cbn is this possible? thank you for your time

So I'm planning an ITX build where I'll be using a gtx 760 and 8gbs or ram. I also have no plans to overclock! My question is should I go cheap with a core i3 or spend a bit more on the i5 Core i3: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-i3-4130-FCLGA-Processor-BX80646I34130/dp/B00EUUKVXM/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1398563734&sr=1-1&keywords=core+i3 Core i5: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CO8TA4I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER I mainly game, I'm not looking towards productivity. But will the extra processing power really help much? Thanks for any advice.

I'm looking to build a somewhat budget gaming build for a friend of mine. They would like a gaming rig between $600-800. I'm trying to make up my mind whether to get an i3 with a beast graphics card (unsure what card just yet) or an AMD 8 core with a beast graphics card. Which is better for gaming, i3 or FX 8 core? If you would like, you can suggest what graphics card I should get too, it would help make my life much easier Thanks for your help in advance. I really appreciate it

So, for a high school graduation gift, I've decided that I'll build a new PC. I previously built an entry level gaming machine earlier this year, and decided that I'm going to part with it. I know for sure I want to overclock on this next one, preferably stick with Intel Haswell CPUs, but I have somewhat of a strict budget. I've been given roughly $900-$1000 USD to invest in this. The for sure parts I know I want to have in it are as follows: CPU - Intel Core i5 4670K SSD - Samsung 840 EVO 120GB HDD- WD Blue 1TB (Maybe an upgrade to WD Black?) Case - Fractal Design Define R4 ATX Mid Currently, I need advice on choosing RAM, a PSU, motherboard, CPU cooler, and POSSIBLY a GPU. The reason why I doubt I'd get a GPU in this one is due to me having an EVGA GeForce GTX 660 SC already. But, in the future, I plan to invest in a much better GPU. Any suggestions on new components, swapping out, or even new builds in general? Thanks!

Would you rather get a locked i3 or an unlocked pentium?

With the Pentium Anniversary Edition around the corner, would you rather get an overclockable Pentium and sacrifice hyperthreading or get a locked i3 with hyperthreading and sacrifice being able to overclock?- 19 replies

I'm going to tl;dr this a bit, but basically I've always dabbled with using linux but eventually got frustrated at some small things. I now feel I finally have a setup that works well. http://i.imgur.com/7YCckr4.jpg (image would break the site so linkie) First the original distro is Crunchbang, but as this is for developing mainly a tiling window manger was required, as i know people using i3 I chose that. (I run vanilla crunchbang on my laptop still) The rest of the common software is below Window Manager: i3wm Terminal: X-terminal-emulator Music player: cmus Vidoe player: vlc IRC client: weechat Browser: chromium Editor: vim + plugins And a hardware list can be found here. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/lutzee/saved/2ddD So the problems I originally had was odd quirks like some DE's the scrolls speed was incredibly slow for some reason, moving 1 line at a time in browsers There was always the problems of me having to shout at the AMD proprietary drivers to work with the multi-monitor setup Plus more that I can't remember now, but this setup has fixed everything. A couple of things I might add, Cmus is great, really nice and easy to use, and I want it in windows now (using foobar2000 atm) i3wm took a bit of niggling to get some things working, as some things weren't really clear, but now its running and set up its great, how it splits the workspaces per monitor was a really nice touch. I don't think I have much else to share, I just feel great that I finally have something I really like.

hello,... i was building a low budget gaming pc and i cant decide which cpu i go with ...the i3 is faster on single threaded apps(only as 2 core and has hyperthreading) and the fx 6300 is faster using all cores (has 6 cores and no HT) .I will play latest games at 1080 p. I am waiting for the new AMD GPU 25 set. ps: iam new on the forum a friend of mine recomended to ask where .=)

Today, I am reviewing the Intel Core i3-2120 3.3Ghz Dual-Core Processor. Before I start, I'd like to explain why I am reviewing this instead of my i5-4570. I am reviewing this because I have had this for almost two years, and am much more familiar with it, having done two builds using it. This is in comparison to my i5, which I have only had for a month or two. Once I hit three months, I will definitely review it. Now, let me start. The i3 2120 is a Sandy Bridge LGA1155 Processor. It is part of the Intel Core series, which are optimized towards gaming, workstations and high-end office machines. I bought this processor for £90, and I have to say that it was a great deal. I paired it with a GTX 560 Ti (which I still have, if you check my signature). It was an AMAZING combo for sub £300. It tanks a decent amount of games, at least on 1280x1024. This processor, then, is great for the budget gaming rig, or the high end office station. It comes with the Intel Stock Cooler, a manual (with a sticker) and itself. It supports 1333Mhz Dual Channel RAM, up to 32GB. I personally would like to see a K series i3, simply to experiment with. This processor also handles rendering from Sony Vegas Pro 12 fairly well, and even better when CUDA assisted. I recommend this CPU infinitely to someone who needs a budget build. Thanks for reading, and sorry for rambling!

Should I buy a heatpipe cooler (Cooler Master Hyper TX3) for the Intel i3-4150 (54w) or it'd work fine under heavy loads with the stock cooler? Considering that I use my PC mostly for gaming and that the temperatures in my city during summer are on average 97°F.

So my i3 3220 bottlenecks me in Battlefield 4 ( even with the new mantle drivers and patch) , and its unplayable in online games. I am just wondering everyone else's experience with this cpu?

Was really exited for Nvidia Shadowplay to then find out my i3 550 @ 3.2GHz was not supported. Apparently i need an i3 2100 @ 3.1Ghz or better Whats the difference between these 2 CPU's anyway?
