I am in need of a new phone but I am not able to get the subsidized pricing for another 5 months. I don't have a ton of money to spare but I am still looking for a more premium smartphone. I had an m8 for about 7 months before it stopped charging but it was just outside of the free repair period (my luck) and since there was a small crack on it, they were going to charge me 300 dollars to fix the defect. I loved my m8 and the build quality but it is also a two-year-old phone. After research, I can get each for 300 dollars new and unlocked. So what do you think? both have their upsides and downsides. Thanks in advance

I have a lot of cash lying around... I am thinking about ordering the Oculus Rift. I am in no rush, so I may wait for the Vive. I really have no clue on which on to go for. Currently leaning towards Oculus Rift. Guidance is appreciated. Thanks - Covert.

HealthBox tries to take the guesswork out of creating a connected fitness ecosystem that’s easy to set up and use. The $400 box includes the UA Band, which rose from the ashes of the HTC Grip that was unceremoniously cut from the company's product line; the UA Scale, which monitors weight and body fat percentage to lead you toward a new goal weight; and the UA Heart Rate strap, which appears to be just like any other Bluetooth-connected chest strap that tracks pulse, heart rate zones, and workout intensity. i'm pretty hopeful for this as i really wanted to get the grip when it was annouced last year, but then it vanished after getting FCC approval, and i was disappointed so i hope this is a success and HTC needs as much help as they can get.

This is an interesting rumor about HTC, reported by Taiwanese media EPrice TW. We all heard news about how bad HTC was in the smartphone business. But instead of launching news smartphones, according to an article from EPrice TW, it seems HTC will re-launch the original HTC One (M7) (at least in Taiwan). Eprice TW reported that HTC will re-launch the HTC One (M7) in February. Since it is a 2-yrs old flagship, the M7 will be sold with a heavy price cut - with a 70% discount, around TWD 6000, or $179, as Eprice TW reported (The original price is around TWD 19,900). Also according to the article, these M7s are not 2nd-hand or recycled smartphones, these are completely new smartphones. But Eprice TW predicted that the packaging and warranty of these new M7 will be different from any new HTC smartphones. HTC haven't responsed to this article, thus I would still classified it as a rumor. And it is still unclear if there will be any changes in the config, model, colors, or whether the M7 will be re-launch in other cities or countries. But if HTC re-launch the M7 in yr area, would u buy one now, 2/3 yrs after its initial launch? http://www.eprice.com.tw/mobile/talk/4542/4969290/1/ (in Chinese)

source: http://www.androidauthority.com/htc-vice-price-667174/ --- so, there you have it folks .. the VR's short existence only thing left is for SONY to come up with a price tag that doesn't scream 1000+$ at these price points, coupled with the fact that you need quite the beastly PC to run it, VR's mass adoption won't happen anytime soon it will see niche use in some non-gameristic fields, medical, military .. but as a gaming aimed peripheral, it's rather D.O.A.

Seriously did I miss something? The WAN Show before CES they asked what people wanted to see and it was monitors and VR. Sure there was a bit of monitor content, but there was only ONE VR video and it wasn't even from a VR headset. It seems like the videos from CES are all up, but they missed a ton of stuff that i would have liked to see.

What do you think how gaming will be in the next 10 years ! Will VR be a thing ? Will Gaming cockpits like the obutto revolution make sense anymore even for racing and flight simulation? Would technology allow something like what happened in the TRON series? (Going in the computer to experience the game first hand) Would a setup like that cost a fortune? Would we reach to point where GPU's become so effective that you wouldn't need to spend a lot to play at the highest settings at the highest resolution to experience a good framerate? Could newer technology reduce cost for the High end user ? Post your thoughts ! Will add more polls to it !

Another day, another leak for another phone. HTC, this is what you should've released the HTC M9 as in the first place. See, all this segmentation garbage? Doesn't do your bottom line much good. Why make two of nearly the same when you can just make the one? Jesus, at least Apples strategy made SOME sense. Two sizes, largely the same across the board. Not really punishing people who picked the smaller one or those who picked the bigger one. Can't you do that? Why do you need a plus? Is your M9 already so weak (actually, it is) that you need a Plus for a specific market? http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/25/htc-m9-plus-leak-china-launch/?utm_source=Feed_Classic_Full&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Engadget&?ncid=rss_full

*I WAS NOT ENDORSED BY HTC TO WRITE THIS. ALL OF THESE OPINIONS ARE MINE. THIS WAS WRITTEN VOLUNTARILY* A little more than a month ago, I won a Re Camera, along with some accessories (as well as a freaking awesome HTC beanie) by participating one of the HTC Elevate contests. My friend had one, and I had used it a bit. Despite the compact form factor, I saw absolutely no reason why anyone would buy it when put against a GoPro. It seemed like the simplest comparison, between a superior camera in every way (albeit at a slightly higher price for the Hero3 white), and an inferior camera with worse image processing, less support, lower video frame rates, etc. Especially with through experience with other cameras, I had no intentions of keeping the Re after I got it, and was going to sell it. However, I have really grown to like this camera, and really get a better idea for who it’s actually made for. My thoughts didn’t change for a while until I recently took a road trip to San Francisco, California to give it a chance, and got to know the camera much better. The Re has this periscope-like shape to it, that breaks away from the traditional camera design. It fits nicely in the hand, and has two buttons. One of which is responsible for all capturing, and another which toggles between slow-motion mode. The large silver button can be pressed shortly to capture a photograph, and can be held down to take a video. Both of these actions are followed by a satisfying click of the button, and a verifying sound effect, which were both nice touches. I am unhappy to report that the slow-motion toggle is extremely mushy, and is almost impossible to tell apart from the body of the Re itself. It feels like HTC could really have utilized this button for something more important, as most users will find the slow-motion as a kind of pointless feature, which in my tests produced pretty bad footage. The front of the Re sports a wide angle lens, that’s perfect for this style of camera. The Re has a free companion app, available for Android and IOS, which lets you control shutter, take time lapses, change settings, and download your photos using WiFi direct. The viewfinder does bear quite a bit of latency, so keep that in mind. My unit was sent along with some extra wristbands, which came in handy when carrying the camera around town. I also paired my Re with a Joby GorillaPod, that was extremely useful for capturing level shots and fit in my backpack easily. Overall, the build quality of the Re is substantial, and held up to a couple of low-level drops. I just recently took the Re on a road trip to San Francisco, California and got to use the camera in more practical scenarios. While walking the streets of the Marina district, I occasionally held my camera up, and snapped a shot or two, that I later viewed using the companion app on my phone. Stashing it in my pocket was easy, and I had it everywhere I went because of its compact form-factor. It was miles quicker to grab the Re out of my pocket and capture a moment, than to open the camera app on my phone. If I saw something, within seconds I could snap a picture. I was surprised to see that in broad daylight, the camera performed very well. Despite its poor indoor performance, the Re is awesome for well-lit landscapes and outdoor shots. The high dynamic range of this camera also really shines in a number of landscape shots I took. The wide angle lens complimented these photos nicely, and looked great when capturing time-lapses. Here are some of the many pictures I took while on my trip: https://goo.gl/photos/PJSkRa4ubmega9kC9 Using the camera in day-to-day use, I was asked a lot of questions, most of which consisted of: “How can you see the pictures it takes?” and “What’s that called?” It’s not easy to sum the Re up into a few words, which is something I thought I would be able to do coming into this. HTC calls this a “lifestyle camera” as opposed to an action camera, which makes it even more difficult to explain. It’s more versatile than a traditional point-and shoot, but really doesn’t resemble much of an action camera other than it’s wide angle lens ands IPX rating of 7 (a rating of 8 with the waterproofing cap sold separately.) So, the target audience for this product is a bit unclear. (more on that later) Needless to say, I was a bit biased in the value aspect of this camera, because it was sent to me by HTC. Initially, I saw the $199.99 price tag of the Re as outrageous. There was just no remote justification for such a high price tag. Today, you can pick one up for ~$150, which is still very expensive in my opinion for the standalone camera (you’d think at this price point, HTC could at least include some first party mounting hardware, but that’s not the case.) If HTC could take the price of this camera down to $99, it would be a must buy. The matter-of-fact is, it’s not cheap, and it’s hard to recommend. When smartphone cameras are getting better and better, I can only see a small amount of people who I can actually recommend this product to. If you’re in the market for an action camera, this isn’t it. However, if you can get over the fact that it’s hard to compose shots, and you are just someone wanting to capture memories with ease, this might be the camera for you.

On Thursday one of major carriers in Japan KDDI announced several new smartphones, which included phones from Samsung, LG, Sharp and others. One of these phones is the rumored HTC Butterfly 3, which called "HTC J butterfly HTV31". The Butterfly series phones are one of HTC's flagship smartphones, which will firstly launched in Japan, and later exclusively available in other Asian countries. This J Butterfly HTV31 is the forth gen Butterfly series smartphone ( from Butterfly -> Butterfly S -> Butterfly 2 -> J Butterfly), and this HTV31 looks like a mix of several HTC smartphones. Photos of the new J Butterfly Firstly, it has the same internal as the M9, as it has the octa-core Snapdragon 810 chip in it, together with 3GB ram, 32GB rom, and the Toshiba 20MP camrea module. But instead of the 5" 1080p screen as the M9, it has a 5.2", 565ppi pixel density Quad HD (2560×1440) display, same as the M9+. The HTV31 also has the Duo camera module, same as the M9+, although the position of the module is upside down. In addition, it has a 13MP front-facing camera, and a pair of hidden boomsound speakers (with Dolby Audio), which just like the Desire Eye, are integrated into a small slit between the touchscreen glass and the white phone body. Lastly, like the last gen Butterfly 2 it has a plastic-made water and dust proof chassis with a glossy back (available in red, white and blue, and I'm still looking for its rating). Besides all these features, the phone has a microSD card slot, housed a 2,700mAh battery, supports LTE, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, and NFC, and runs Android 5.0 Lollipop with Sense 7 UI right out of the box. A Dot-View case is also announced alongside this phone as an available accessories. The phone is now exclusively available in Japan, which I believe it will be available in other Asian countries later this year. If it has a metal chassis, it would be my dream HTC flagship smartphone of 2015. But what do you think? Should this be HTC's flagship instead of the M9/M9+? The One M9 Review Part II at AnandTech Goes Really Bad for HTC http://anandtech.com/show/9137/the-htc-one-m9-review-part-2 Well damn. This is as bad as it could have gotten for HTC. People should be allowed to expect improvement over time in mobile devices, but the M9 has demonstrated palpably worse performance than the M8 in a number of areas. The Galaxy S6 is going to whoop the M9 in the butt so bad that I'm genuinely fearing for HTC. I miss the glory days of the M7, a phone whose worst quality was the two buttons instead of three. Farewell HTC. We knew thee well... Opinions? (Edited title - originally was a bit too extreme)

I was looking forward to the release of the new HTC M9 but after looking at this i might just have to stick with iPhone. http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/03/htc-one-m9-review-htcs-flagship-feels-like-an-afterthought/ Kinda makes me think getting an m8 is the better deal??

Oh boy, here comes HTC with more variations on what should have been their flagship phone to begin with. As we can see, it has a Quad HD display as well as 3GB of RAM and a 20mp camera. The E9 gets cut down specs. I'm trying to understand why they NEED to make such country specific devices instead of just minimizing how many variations they need off the bat, but oh well. I'm not running their product lines so I can't explain their reasoning. But here they both are. Enjoy? http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/29/htc-one-e9-plus-official-china/

I guess now its all properly official, the E9+ and M9+ (aka the M9 that should've launched EVERYWHERE) are now for sale in China. Its not just China that has an obsession with large phones, most of the world now does. So I'm pretty sure North America would've loved this phone as well. Looks like HTC is going back to the "lets just make a bunch of variations because YOLO with our RD budgets, cause who gives a shit" http://www.engadget.com/2015/04/08/htc-m9-plus-china/

I have an iPhone 5C now... going to get a new phone soon. My dad is really annoying about Apple but I still really want an Android device (Shield is great). He said something about off-contract so I told him about the One Plus One. If any of you have had experiences with customer service from One Plus, then I would love to hear about it. My dad said that he gets Apple phones because he can easily get them repaired. I want to convince him that the One Plus is better. Thanks.

so yeah got the HTC one m8 yesterday, amazing phones, fast as lightning etc. but the battery seem to be kinda bad... i'm losing around 1% per minute of use. it was at 100% are 14:00 and it's 18:00 and the phones at around 81%. i was watching a movie and every now and then i popped it up to text with my friends on facebook. it's on wifi\data connection all of the time, and i was wondering if that's normal, or is it just the fact that this is a new phone and is downloading a lot of stuff in the background? my battery usage is this: 24% on sense home, 22% chrome browser and another 20% on android system and 20% on a different android thing. so yeah is this normal? i've heard this phone can last a day and even 2 days sometimes so i wanted to see how it is on other people's phone. thanks

This is really puzzling, just happened out of the blue. Phone has always been set to vibrate profile and all of a sudden no longer works. I've tried the obvious things I can think of such as rebooting the phone, leaving it powered off for a while and clearing the system but it still won't work. Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Hi guys, It's me again. Just want to know your thoughts between the two smartphones I am planning to buy. Specs, Battery Life, Camera & Music Quality and stuff. HTC One M8 or Samsung Galaxy A5? I am currently having some dilemma on what should I get. HTC One M8 surpasses some of the specs on the Galaxy A5 and vice versa. I have seen the youtube reviews and camera test videos and I still can't make a choice. TIA!

hi Guys, my htc one sv powered off unexpectedly and now only displays a white screen when i put it on charge, how do i get out of this! scratch that now it wont even boot. the white screen came up with options like "bootloader" and "reboot" and after navigating through the options i couldnt seem to get anything to work. after a few minutes it would even show that screen any more, and refused to even boot. but when i plug it into my laptop it recognises it as "unidentified device" or "android 1.0" can this be fixed or is my phone dead? I dont have much experience with this stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!

Ahh HTC, just when you thought it couldn't possibly get any worse for your company, it does. HTCs been on the brink for years, the M7 saved their bacon as being one of the first Android devices worth owning, but their bumbling of their finances and future releases has brought them right back to where they were at the tail end of the Windows Phone 6.5 days - staring down probable ruin. I'd say I wish them a speedy recovery, but not really. They've screwed themselves over far too often. They deserve it, IMHO. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-06-08/htc-drops-to-decade-low-after-cutting-quarterly-sales-forecast http://bgr.com/2015/06/11/htc-one-m9-sales-share-price/

Hello, I'm asking the question that android enthusiasts hate to answer cause of the difficulty of the situation... How do you root the htc one m8?
-
Just a quick question, why is the htc one m8 so hard to root? I just finished rooting it with a long and hard (lol) process that was much harder than any of my previous android phones to root. A lot of the other phones had software that I could use (3rd party) that would do the process for me!
