The news is pretty short (and sweet): Article from Ars Technica In short, HTC sold a majority of its phone division to Google for a little more than a billion dollars. Google officially announced the deal's closure (completion) today. Google wants HTC mobile employees to augment their existing mobile division. Both the Google Pixel (Standard and XL) and Google Pixel 2 were a collaborative effort between Google's mobile team and HTC. The article states that by purchasing part of HTC, Google wants to improved control in the design process and more unity between the pixel phones. In other words, Google wants to be more independent from third-parties. They don't want to rely on companies like HTC (and LG) to design and manufacture their phones. So why did HTC sell such a large portion of their company? HTC is hemorrhaging money. Their mobile division has had a couple big flops with the HTC One M9 and especially the HTC U Ultra. As a former HTC One M8 owner and a current Google Pixel 2 user, I'm extremely excited about this deal. I don't know if it will help Google improve the quality of their phones, but it at least implies that Google will continue the Pixel series. Maybe Google will even be able to compete with the Samsung Galaxy and IPhone (in market share) in a couple years...

This is an updated version of one of the 2 main VR headsets with some upgrades/updates. Featuring: A Lighter Body New Strap Design Uses SteamVR tracking 2.0, which is compatible with SteamVR tracking 1.0 Built-in Headphones - so no need for the Audio Headset Strap like the Vive 1 And new screen resolutions of 1440x1600 per eye, 2880x1600 in total. The last point I think is massive since it has an increase of 78% screen resolution compared to the original Vive. HTC have said that they aim to be selling this device alongside the current model, so I assume this is not a replacement for the Vive, Much like the Xbox One and One X, both play XBox One games - just one can do so with more features. What is interesting to note from this is HTC will be creating their own Wireless headset adapter to be released later this year, based on Intel's WiGig technology. If you wish to upgrade from a fully working Vive set-up, you can do as the HMD can be available separately as a stand-alone purchase, or as a kit if the full set-up is needed. Currently, the price and availability are unknown. My thoughts? It looks impressive. The article says lighter design, I would like to know the entire weight, and the increase in screen resolution is nice. However, since HTC said they will be selling this alongside the original Vive, I assume this is a step up model - much like the iPhone 7 & X, as such, I'm a bit scared of the price, especially since pricing for VR headsets are still quite steep and is one of the biggest obstacles in getting VR mainstream. The new HTC Vive Pro will feature: dual 1440x1600 OLED screens (78% increase over current Vive) will be lighter and more comfortable (including for glasses wearers) built in audio is getting an upgrade It will be released this quarter and be compatible with v1 lighthouses. I think this is a great version two and backwards compatibility is always great. But I fear that with the PRO name the price will also be "pro". My HTC M8S phone running android 6.0.1 is constantly crashing randomly and sometimes I can see the low battery warning for a split second before the screen turns off, but the battery will be at about 50% or under. Whenever it crashes and i turn it back on, my settings will have reset some of the settings. I would be fine if it crashed at 10% or only rarely crashed, but it is happening almost every day! I have looked all over the internet for ways to fix this but nothing has worked! Also, the USB data connection does not work! would appreciate any advice. Thanks. -
So I have a (Amazon) Asus GL502VS-DB71 and I am getting a vive. I wanted to make a VR backpack because the cables that are tethered to you are limiting. I have this backpack Amazon. I would think that it would fit my laptop. I need help selecting a battery pack that would power the vive and if it can power my laptop. I think the vive's base stations connect wirelessly through the vive's headset usb. Please help!

So with a little Christmas cash I’ve decided to treat myself to some VR. My main issue obviously is which headset to get. I’ve heard and read that the Rift is lighter thus more comfortable while the Vive is heavier due to the sensors and whatnot. The Vive has room scale vs the Rifts sitting or standing. In my current room I don’t really have space for moving around in VR but I’d like the option to in the future. The Rift is also a hell of a lot cheaper than the Vive, £350 on Amazon vs £600 at Currys which makes the Rift very attractive. I already have Elite: Dangerous and Subnautica in terms of VR games but I’d like to get Job Simulator and Hotdogs, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades (which is only available for HTC Vive I know). Any help deciding? Any experience with VR that could help? Should I wait for what the next year brings? I don’t really want to wait because I’ve already been waiting for forever. Thanks!

Hello everyone. I'm looking for an 'In-Ear' earphones for my girlfriend birthday. I recently bought the htc u11 and used the earphones included with the box (HTC USonic) myself, and was kinda surprised by their quality, So I told my gf to try them herself with her own personal audio profile created by the phone's software and boy, the smile on her face said it all. She just couldn't stop smiling and saying how perfect the bass is and how good every song she hears is. And that's what I want to get her (if possible even better). But i'm having hard time choosing the right earphones.. I searched the internet for similar earphones or any kind of branding that htc used on their earphones but i couldn't find anything related.. My budget is around 100-120$ and I found these earphones that had really good reviews: - Sennheiser CX 300 II - Sennheiser Momentum G - RHA MA750 - Sony MDR XB50AP - Shure SE215-CL So I need help choosing the right earphones (any of the above or better) that will blow her mind. So my desktop has a FX 6350, GTX 970, 8 gigs of DDR3 ram. How well would I be able to run games on the Vive? I know that the GPU and RAM meet the minimum requirements but I don't know about the CPU. Also, how what kind of CPU would have the best cost to performance increase from a 6350? Thanks!

Hi everyone, So my nexus 4 died a few months back and now in the market for a new one (RIP solid phone) Things i'm looking for Price: $600 Australian (max but flexible) Specs: good enough to run light games (if at all) - i've been hearing good things about the snapdragon 617 (and it seems enough for my needs) Camera: Decent camera with decent image stabilization (software or hardware, just done well) (would like 1080 60fps but not needed) Battery life: 2 days use (or a solid single day) probs in the 3000mAh+ range SD card slot Size: 5-5.5 Inch (my N4 was 4.7) Decent support on software (eg HTC seem to support their devices for 3 years (mid to flagship) What i'm looking at so far HTC A9 Price: $500 (~$50) Pros: good camera, good size. Cons: Battery could be better, Moto X force. Price: $600 Pros: Great battery, good size Cons: Camera could have been done better, slow updates (security patches slow to arrive if at all) HTC 10 Price: $800 (chepest i've found, kogan might be able to get me a better price though) Pros: Flagship has everything i want really, Cons: Price, battery could have been better Avoiding nexus because i want to try other brands (and i want a decent camera) Opinions or alternatives? I really would like to have an android phone. I had an htc one (m7), and loved it. But when I switched to the iphone 6, I realized that I wouldn't have imessage on android. This isn't a problem, since you can deactivate your number from imessage, but I still wouldn't be able to have imessage group chats (which are all the ones I currently have). If you have any tips or info, please help. Thanks!

Hi guys, I recently got a HTC One M8 - and was wondering if anyone could provide me some help on the small peeves I have with it. This is probably just marshmallow though, so any help is really appreciated! I upgraded from a 4S, and while I am loving this phone and hence the new version of android, there are still some things that bug me and am sure there will be a fix for. First of all - When I am playing music through Spotify, I can't skip songs or pause etc from the lock screen - I am forced to unlock the phone in order to do so Second of all - Similar issue, I can see what notifications I have from the lock screen, but the content is always hidden, I would rather be able to read messages from my lock screen if possible Third and final - The keyboard is good, but the predictive text is kind of annoying, I like that you can save words to the dictionary but, it always prompts me to, which is irritating. Basically, are there levels of 'tolerance' I can set for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I haven't used android for years and am effectively a noob. Thanks in advance! -
Hello LTT Forums, I have an HTC one M8 phone that i am having trouble with. This morning my phone was working fine until it reached around 75% battery and then I was unable to turn on the phone screen, at the time i was listening to a podcast and even when the screen wouldn't turn on the podcast continued to play, I tried unplugging and plugging my headphones back in but the podcast kept playing even after that. Anyway I have no idea why my phone's screen is unresponsive, when I plugged my phone in when I got home the light that normally comes on when i try to charge it didn't come on either. Please help me figure out what is wrong with my phone, I can provide any information necessary.

I know people hate "leak" rumors, but Ars is a bit better at managing their sources than most. Also, for HTC, the M10 is a big deal. Why? Well, look at how the M9 went over: (hint, think "lead balloon") Even Linus, who loved the HTC M line until 9 months ago was just disappointed by HTC's current flagship. The following A9 wasn't much better; it has been generally panned as a less-powerful iPhone copy. So the M10 is a big deal. Looking at the photos, it appears that the M10 is a big departure from the so far nearly-unchanged M8/9 design. Note the lack of front-facing boomsound speakers, which i'm sure will polarize people. Personally, I'm rooting for HTC. I don't want a Samsung/Apple oligarchy in the phone industry, and HTC of old used to be a real powerhouse in terms of innovation. I mean, the M7 kicked off the whole unibody craze that even Apple, the king of exclusive gimmicks, copied. Just kidding, Apple had the iPhone 5. HTC was still the first Android maker to use unibody, and the iPhone 5 debuted in the same release cycle, so both teams were "first".

In terms of reliability, build quality, user experience, support and battery life and other similar factors. Which in your opinions would you say is better as a brand HTC or OnePlus? I'm also welcome to any other brands apart form Apple and Samsung.

Dear forum members, I'm going to buy an HTC ONE M9 in the next couple days. I wanted to buy an awesome skin from dbrand and then put a transparent case on that for protection. Does it look as amazing as w/o the case and the skin only ? Did someone have done this ? Should I go with a hard case or a TPE one ? I'm looking forward to your answers.

This is just a handy tip that I came up with earlier today as I was trying to solve the problem of not been out to hear what's going on around you whilst in VR. I'm sure that I'm not the first person to have come up with this, but I also haven't seen it suggested anywhere else. What I have read a lot of articles about though, is how it's difficult for people to get your attention whilst you are playing inside a VR headset. Steam does have its "knock knock" feature, but that only works in steam VR and not Oculus. It also assumes at least some understanding on behalf of the person trying to get your attention as well as expecting them to read your screen for instructions. So here's my simple method of doing it: 1. Make you have an external microphone on your computer. There is one built-in to the rift, but it doesn't pick up voices around you as much as it is designed to be a personal microphone and cut out background noise. In my case, I can use the built-in microphone on my Logitech Webcam. 2. In the bottom right hand corner of your toolbar, right click and select recording devices. Select the microphone you wish to use, that gives the best sound pick up of the room around you. Set this as your default device . 3. Now right click on your chosen device and select properties Now click on the list and have at the top of the properties window. 4. Tick the option that says "Listen to this device". Under the drop down menu which says "Playback through this device", select the headphones that you use in your virtual reality headset. I'm not sure what this is called in the HTC Vive as I don't have one. For rift owners, it's a bit simpler; simply select "Headphones (rift audio)". if you are using your own headphones, simply select them as an option. 5. That is pretty much it. Sounds picked up by your microphone will now be played back through the headset or headphones you have selected. This gives you a slightly better idea of your surroundings and may save you from if you jump scares when a family member or friend decides to put their hand on your shoulder to get your attention. One suggestion I would have, is clicking on the levels tab of the microphone properties, and reducing the levels to about 50%. This is personal preference, but to me, this is allowed enough to hear what is going on around you without being distracting. Its only an an idea and meant to help people like myself who don't have a an exclusive place to play games undisturbed. Or if you're simply talking to your friend while he's playing a game. It can help maintain the social element I love so much in gaming. Would love to hear your feedback. -
What case do you recommend for the HTC 10 that isn't too bulky/ugly but will at least slightly protect your phone?

Out of all these brands for smartphones: Samsung, LG, Sony, OnePlus, HTC and Huawei which one in your opinion is the best in terms of software and user experience, meaning no bloatware (or very little), efficient use of the battery and CPU, plenty of customization options that sort of thing. Also are there any brands that prefer a bare bones approach? So like stock android or something.

My first and biggest concern is that I have a ASUS Stryx GTX 970 for my GPU, and am using all 4 display outputs on it. Ive never messed with running a GPU stand alone for just display ports. I have an older AMD card for a backup in case shit hits the fan, would it be possible to slap that into my rig and use it just for the HDMI for the vive? Second, is there any benefit of using USB 3.0? it says 2.0 is fine but nothing about any improvements if using 3.0. Third, I intend to have the room scale part far enough away from my computer that my current headset wont reach. How is the experience just playing through the speakers? Should I get a wireless headset? Fourth, How does it work if i want to swap from room scale to sit down? As stated earlier I want the room scale to be a decent distance away from my PC and the lighthouse boxes wouldnt be covering where I sit. Is this not an option? or is there a little stand thing like the oculus has that sit on your desk that I just havent seen? I appreciate all the help <3 EDIT: it look like in the FAQ it says that you do need one of the sensor boxes to be in front of you at your computer for sit down experiences. Are they easily removable from the mounts? -

I have an HTC One M7 and can't access 3G / mobile data. If it helps, the phone was bought via Vodafone but is now on giffgaff. Mobile data is definitely enabled. Can anyone help?
