Wondering what the best for full body tracking. My gpu is the gigabyte eagle rx 6700 xt and I would be playing Vr chat and racing games through steam vr. If you know any better headsets feel free to let me know. Thanks!

Alright, So I plan on buying a used HTC Vive off Craigslist for $400, yes it's low, also an hour drive away. but that's why i'm here. What is the best way to test an HMD? My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5577G with a 4gb GTX 1050(desktop is better, see profile for specs), clearly not VR ready but would it work to test in a Starbucks or something? What are some other things I should be looking for? (also not sure where to post this, HMD = Head Mounted Display so i'm posting here. mods feel free to move or delete)

Hello everyone, I was hoping for some guidance on VR headsets. I've saved up a good amount of "fun money" over the last 2 years which I would like to spend on a VR setup, so price is less of a problem for me, as long as its not outrageous compared to competitors (I'm looking at you Pimax). I already have a computer which should be more than capable of running any current gen headset from what I can tell (2080 Super + 3900X) so I can afford to splurge on the headset and peripherals. With that said, I want the best experience using the headset I can get from currently available products. I don't necessarily want the fanciest headset, I want the headset that I can use as a daily driver, if I could realistically use it as a 'virtual office' space for 5+ hours a day that would be ideal, I also place a high value on the 'It just works' aspect even if that means less frills. I was hoping you fine folks could help me figure out which headset that might be as I'm having some difficulty understanding the product stacks of some manufacturers, and how important of a human factor some of the specs are as I've really only been able to test drive the earlier headsets from library/school rentals etc. Currently, I am leaning towards one of either the Valve Index, or one of HTC's headsets, though I'm open to others. This is because I think the Index or the Vives fit that 'it just works' model I'm after. I don't however understand a) HTC's product stack; I don't know which headsets are aimed at consumers and which ones are aimed at developers or some specific niche use. I don't mind paying the high price tags of any of HTCs headsets, but I don't really understand what tradeoff I'm making if I choose a Cosmos, Pro, or Focus model. Are the "Pro" headsets strict upgrades to the cosmos? is the focus model just a gimmicky eye tracking thing I'll never care about? b) How much weight should I place on frame rate and resolution? My intuition is that I should probably value fps over most everything (and thus choose an Index), but If someone has any experience with both a Cosmos and an Index and could give me a quick comparison of the eye-comfort from the resolution/fps tradeoff I would greatly appreciate it. c) It's my understanding that the FOV of essentially every headset is problematic. With that in mind, should I prioritize it as much as FPS? d) what is the optimal number of base stations? 4? e) Cable management; what is the best method, and where do I find quality products for the purpose like extra long replacement headset cables or overhead cable rigs? f) different controller schemes. I'm guessing some of this is personal preference, but are there controllers, or other peripherals, which are highly recommended? Relatedly, I have audiophile grade headphones, will I be able to use them with VR headsets? Are the built in speakers any good at all? Finally, I'm in the fortunate circumstance of also buying a home. So, I would like to know anyone's recommendation for room design/size that has worked well for them. Thanks everyone.

Hi All! This is my first time posting here but I was hoping someone out there would have some information on the issue I am having. I have a custom built gaming desktop with the following hardware: ASUS Z170I PRO GAMING LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1080 FE DirectX 12 ZT-P10800A-10P 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5X PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support ... Intel Core i7-6700K Skylake Quad-Core 4.0 GHz LGA 1151 91W BX80662I76700K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics ... G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3000 (PC4 24000) Intel X99 Platform Extreme ... Crucial MX300 2.5" 525GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CT525MX300SSD1 CORSAIR CS-M Series CS550M 550W 80 PLUS GOLD Active PFC Haswell Ready ATX12V & EPS12V Modular Power Supply My goal is to enable virtualization on my MOBO for the purpose of running Hyper-V. I would build my computer with a clean install of Windows 10, do all Windows Updates, update all the drivers for the GTX 1080. And when I run the HTC VIVE setup, I would get a BSOD during the setup (specifically when the drivers for the Head Gear itself is installing) OR I would get a BSOD the next time I reboot/boot my computer. The BSOD does not give an error code or stop code, just a sad face. It would then prompt me to "Restore" to an earlier point. This will work 50% of the time and when it restores to an earlier point, it would be a point before Steam VR is installed. Other times it would loop in diagnosing the error and not being able to resolve it. When this happens, I cannot boot into safe mode, cannot do a repair, and cannot recover from this. It would loop in a BSOD and have no actual stop code or error code. When viewing the event log, the error I get is error 0x0 "your computer unexpectedly shut down due to a crash, power loss, or error" ***paraphrasing*** My computer works fine if I have virtualization enable on the MOBO and running Hyper-V with multiple VMs My computer works fine if I do not have virtualization enabled on the MOBO and running my HTC VIVE VR system There always seems to be an issue if I have both configured at the same time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey guys, I've been experiencing a problem with my bluetooth recently. I am always connected to bluetooth in my car or using my samsung level U, I use it for both media streaming and calls. But about one week ago when ever I am connected to bluetooth either to my car or my samsung level U I can only listen to music, but can't receive or make calls. So I'd be listening to music but if I get a call.. I can't answer through the car i need to pick up my phone. Same thing for my level U. I've tried everything from simply unpairing and pairing it again. To clearing the bluetooth cache. The problem only seems to go away when I restart my phone. But it will only work once after I disconnect bluetooth the first time the problem appears again. Ive also tried to simply check the phone audio selection under the bluetooth menu but it wont check it. FYI i use to have an HTC One M7 before this phone. And it works just fine. I also tested a Samsung Note 3 with both the car and the Level U, it works just fine. Specs: Phone: HTC One X9 dual sim ( Android 6.0)

So I have a little bit of money and I've come across a dilemma. I found a sick deal on Craigslist for an HTC Vive for $500, nothing missing or broken but I realize VR is a relatively new area in gaming and it doesn't exactly have the largest or most supported library yet. On the other hand I can get a PS4 and some games for less than or equal to $500. Now to me the obvious choice is to go for the PS4 because I can actually get games with it and it could be cheaper plus it's a whole different console not just a fancy edition to PC. BUT I think VR is freaking awesome and I would love to try it but I don't want it to be a quick little, "Oh this is cool but I'm just going to go back to regular gaming," kinda thing. So any opinions on VR, what I should choose and why would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

so i have this phone htc 820G+ and i this phone does not get system updates. i looked up in the internet and other users are also complaining about it as HTC is not sending any. the OS im currently having is kitkat and i want to upgrade it to lollipop or marshmallow but i havent found any sources for that as well. however i have seen people installing CyanogenMod 13, but there is some risk too as some people have got various features in their device not working and there are successful people too.i just want to know if its worth taking the risk to put CyanogenMod 13.is it just some software that makes your phone look like it has marshmallow or does it actually have atleast some of its features?

Hey guys, about 2 weeks ago I bought HTC Vive. I like it a lot! However there are not that many games for it. But I do enjoy it a lot though. It's a lot fun to see your relatives, parents and friends try it for the first time! What are your thoughts on it? Performance, games? Any suggestions on games that are a must-try? Cheers!

My phone has had issues with charging before but i put that down to the cables as new cables seemed to work fine. Just today as I attempted to charge my phone it went blisteringly hot and smelled of burning (i thought it was the hoover in the room at first) and it didn't show up as charging. Oh, and when i plugged it into my laptop (smart idea right) it said it was using too much power and to remove it. I don't know what to do, get a replacement or what?

It has been almost 45 years since the release of Computer Space, the first mass produced arcade video game Since then we've seen countless games come and go with billions of coins being spent on machines However, the arcade game business has seen a massive decline with the introduction of portables and consoles Coins and joysticks feel out of place today; touchscreens, keyboards and even headsets feel much closer to home But that won't stop HTC from attempting to bring VR to the masses with the Viveport Arcade program Their HTC Vive has shown promise in the market although it is still a first-gen device Don't get your hopes too high though because the experience will not be cheap (which is sort of expected) Arcade games were known to be a quite cheap escape from reality (though addiction to games does cost a lot even today) I honestly want to try it out to see the experience rather than just the VR I used to feel a sense of relaxation in arcades which still surprises given the amount of sounds ranging from the nostalgic music to the coins being accepted by the machine VR seems to capture that, and the technology really becomes an escape from reality Source: http://uploadvr.com/viveland-is-htcs-huge-new-vr-arcade-for-taiwan/ http://www.theverge.com/2016/11/3/13505492/htc-vive-viveport-arcade-vr-launch-details http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/htc-vivetm-expands-the-viveport-family-by-making-viveporttm-m-available-to-mobile-vr-developers-300345650.html

So I will be using the phone on Verizon's networks, and I love music, so I thought that both of these phones would be good. But I don't know what to get. I like the screen, speakers, battery life more on the axon 7 But I love the build, size, camera, and the software more on the HTC 10 I will probably root and unlock the bootloader, so I won't worry about warranties. I can get them both for around $370 on swappa, but I could buy the axon 7 new. Help me choose!

Does anyone have any first hand experience with VR on a 980ti. I am interested in gettin a vive but not sure if my card is good enough. I have a evga 980ti which I have gotten to 1450mhz on core clock
-
I am thinking of getting the HTC Vive. However, my computer space is VERY small for Vive (and next to a stair case, meaning I could easily trip), but the room above my computer space is perfect for VR. Is their anyway to use the vive in a different room then the room of my computer.
-
Pretty straight forward question, which one should I be looking at getting? Rift or Vive? I personally see the Vive as a superior headset as you can actually get up and move with it (to an extent obviously). And I don't really like how the Oculus comes with it's own headphones attached and the controllers aren't even released yet. And yes, VR takes more power but I have a sufficient build (http://pcpartpicker.com/list/dcXgtJ) so don't worry. But another option is available and that's Playstation VR. Now Playstation VR games, I assume, should be more optimized and "perfected" to work on a Playstation but the games are very limited. Or should I not even bother jumping to VR because "it's just a fad" like 3D TVs? But on the other had I REALLY want to play VR pool and roast pirates in Elite Dangerous in VR. Anyway, any help or opinions are greatly appreciated!

http://www.strawpoll.me/11471761 I just want to see want people think. Everyone seems to disagree. Personally, I disagree, I think it is just getting started. Plus there are applications outside of gaming.

Apologies if this has already been discussed but I can't find a thread about this in search. It looks like HP and HTC have teamed up to sell a prebuilt PC and Vive bundle, that includes an i5/RX 480 based system and an HTC Vive Headset for $1500, claiming a $1600 value. Using the parts list on the page, I built an equivalent system in PCPartpicker, recreating specs and functionality as best I could, and it seems like this is actually a good value. Personally, I don't usually think much of prebuilts, as they're usually pretty bad value, often sacrificing performance, logical part combinations, and multiple hundreds of dollars for a relatively small amount of convenience compared to what users will have to deal with anyway when it comes to PC gaming and software. This build seems to go against that by offering good value. The equivalent PC I built came out to $724 after shipping, and combined with the cost of the Vive by itself comes out to $1523, not counting any additional taxes or shipping charges. This seems like a pretty good deal for anyone who doesn't own a PC, or just owns a laptop for college or whatever other situation, but wants to get into VR gaming. Sure the price if hefty, but at the end of the day you've got a modern PC with no major corners cut (includes an SSD, has bluetooth and wireless network support) that can play modern games very well, and play every VR game I can think of. Only thing someone needs to buy afterwards is a monitor, as the build includes a KB+M too. So what's your thoughts on this? Do you think it's a good value? Could this help adoption of VR by giving more casual users of PC hardware and gaming a chance to get into VR without having to make their own setup from scratch? I think it will, but hey, let's discuss! Sources: https://www.vive.com/us/vive-ready-hp-computer-bundle/ http://pcpartpicker.com/list/WYTw7h

The business world can definitely be a rough place, especially if you're an Android handset maker as HTC is currently exploring options to raise capital which may include spinning off or selling it's Vive Unit. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-08-24/smartphone-maker-htc-is-said-to-explore-strategic-options Currently am wondering how much that this has to deal with the price decrease of the Vive units and how much of an impact those decreased prices would have on any business deals. I had an old HTC One X several years ago before getting an S6 Edge and they both have been great phones. https://www.engadget.com/2017/08/24/htc-vive-business-sale-rumor/

The HTC VIVE just went on sale on Newegg.com. They dropped the price a whole $200! The Price is now $599.00! Newegg is also a non-taxing, for most states, site, so that's a plus! I thought I'd let the community know. I am NOT advertising the Vive. I am simply informing you guys! Hope that's okay. Also, sorry if this is the wrong place for this. Wasn't exactly sure where this belonged. At first I thought Tech News, but I thought Peripherals was better place.
