Alright, so I was watching some LTT CES Coverage only to have my screen freeze up. I waited a bit but it just stayed there. So, I just turned the display off. I tried turning it back on but nothing happened. I tried charging it, the charging light didn't come on. Then I heard the sound of my phone shutting down (without anything on the screen happening) and it won't turn back on. Temps were normal, the phone didn't overheat. Any suggestions?

Has anyone else had this issue? It still charges when plugged into the mains but using a USB only cable (into a PC for example) no longer charges the battery, I've had mine for just over a year now. I've tried using different cables too.

So I just got my brand new HTC One M8 Verizon unlocked from Ebay on Saturday, and the device, being brand new, is still running Android 4.4.2. And that's the problem. I can't get it to update to 4.4.4. Everytime I press "Check New" under "Software Update," it sits on a pop saying that its checking for any new software for about a minute and a half, and then it gives me a popup notification titled "Download Unsuccessful" saying that "We were not able to download this update. To retry, go to Settings > Software update." Now, this phone does not have a 4g LTE sim installed, nor is it connected to any account or service plan yet. Is there any way I can fix this issue?

So i've had my HTC Desire HD since early 2011. It's been causing a bit of a fuss over the last few months, i think it's time to wrap it up and give it to my mom. As experts i expect you guys to throw some suggestions my way in terms of a phone that will last me about 2 years of general use. I'm looking for something in the 200-450$ range preferably, it does help if it's durable, or has a nice protective case available. I've been looking around this jungle you call the smartphone market, i'm at a loss. I'm thinking of an android 4.4 or newer OS and a phone that won't die every 6 hours in my pocket. Preferably with a Micro SD slot. I've been checking out the nexus 4, Asus Zenfone 5 and 6, LG G3, Motorola Moto G and the Samsung Galaxy S5. A Note 4 is too big for my pockets. Thanks in advance for any suggestions regarding this life changing decision.

So yesterday my dad fell into the river while on the boat, and his M8 went with him. He told me if I can fix it I can have it. It is currently sitting in a bag of rice, with the SD card and SIM card slots removed. Is there anything else I can do that might increase my chances of it working?

Last year, after the announced of M8, HTC announced the E8, a cheaper version of the M8, replacing the metal body with a plastic one, and with a different camera. Now it seems HTC will keep on follow this tradition, as rumors and leaked photos of E9 surfaced after the M9 announcement. Different from last yr's E8, it seems the E9 will have a bigger difference than that of M9. Famous leaker Upleaks posted the rumored spec of the E9 on his Chinese site a few days ago, and it seems it has a different chipset, screen size and resolution than the M9. Noted that this is not the rumored M9 Plus, as the M9 Plus has a metal chassis as the M9, and a different screensize (M9 Plus is rumored to have a 5.2" WQHD display). And Upleaks also stated that this phone may be exclusive to Asian market. Thus if you live outside Asia, you want to buy one, you may have to import it. Then on last Saturday, leaked photos of the E9 appeared online. And from these photos, it seems the E9 will still have BoomSound speakers, also it will have a plastic body, and a camera that looks like the one on the leaked M9 Plus photos. http://upleaks.cn/2015/03/03/hoc-one-e9-a55/#more-25 (in Chinese) http://www.gsmarena.com/purported_live_images_of_htc_e9_a55_make_the_rounds_online-news-11457.php

HTC has apologized after teasing a new Half-Life game for the company’s upcoming virtual reality headset, ‘The Vive’, which was developed in collaboration with Valve. The drama all kicked off yesterday when HTC Chairwoman, Cher Wang, suggested that a new Half-Life game was on the way in an interview with the BBC. During the interview, the HTC Chairwoman said “I think Valve’s best game is Dota, right, and Portal and Team Fortress and I think they are very keen to have them on Vive”. She then went on to say “We are co-operating with Half-life, and I think… I hope, you know, it will be on it.” As you can imagine, given the official announcements of the Source 2 engine and the constant Half-Life 3 rumors, this claim from HTC that it was actively helping with a new Half-Life game set the internet alight with speculation. Things got worse when it was discovered that a Valve employee had a talk on game physics scheduled at GDC for 3PM on the third of March (3/3 at 3), this turned out to be a coincidence and Valve did not mean to fuel any speculation. Following the interview with HTC, the BBC received official comment from Valve explaining that no VR Half-Life game was in development and that the comments made by HTC were surprising. After fueling the fire, HTC ended up apologizing for incorrectly teasing a new Half-Life game: Wang said. The Vive is Valve’s own virtual reality headset built in collaboration with HTC. This marks HTC’ first big venture in to the gaming market. The device will be commercially available later this year. Source : http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-31713715

My news train doesn't make stops for anything (except washroom breaks, can't be living too dangerously) but while I was scouring the inter webs I came across this little tidbit. HTC is going to stop selling the One M8 in some areas and replace it with the M8s which carries a 615 64-bit processor in place of the original Snapdragon 801. This seems...bizarre to me. Investing additional R/D into a middle tier device instead of just slashing the price of your old one? Apple usually sets bad precedents, but their new policy of selling the last generation phone for less (and sometimes with fixed storage/colour options) doesn't seem like a bad way to go. Burn through any excess inventory and offer last years flagship with the same specs for less, for those who just don't need a 1000 dollar phone each year. But, c'est la vie. Here it is. http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_one_m8s_with_slower_cpu_to_replace_the_one_m8_soon-news-11398.php

So what are everyone's thoughts on the two big press conferences today? I think the biggest announcement for me was the VR partnership with Valve on HTC's side. For those of you who haven't seen either, here are the video links. HTC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=BWhM_oHr558 Samsung: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVk3ZWrhHxc (yes I am aware that the Samsung event is still happening as I am posting this)

HTC announces Grip, its first wearable fitness tracker
Victorious Secret posted a topic in Tech News
I don't blame HTC for wanting into the wearable game, its fairly lucrative if you can get the basics right and offer a compelling enough product for the price they'll charge. I wouldn't buy it, but I think its a nice enough first step. They are giving up on HR and instead allowing you to use any bluetooth enabled HR sensor instead. I also wouldn't buy it because it looks like something a boy racer would wear and doesn't really look that nice as something you could wear on a day to day basis. At least my Surge can pass as a normal watch and be used in social settings without sticking out like a yellow coloured thumb. http://www.theverge.com/2015/3/1/8128561/htc-grip-specs-features-release-date-price -

I take these with a grain of salt, given how Samsung has a penchant for milking benchmarks and straight up optimizing their phones for benchmark applications. That being said, if you're interested in the scores here are the videos. It certainly does deliver a whooping to the others, though is it enough of a whooping that people care? Will the classic "Samsung Sluggishness" bite them in the ass again, like it has on prior Galaxy devices? http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/03/02/galaxy-s6-achieves-monstrously-high-benchmark-scores-leaves-htc-one-m9-in-the-dust/

Do you guys think that the HTC One M9 is worth an upgrade? Do you think that Samsung's new TouchWiz with Lollipop is enough to bring new users. Could it scare loyalists away?
-
Here it officially is? Officially looking enough, thats for sure. Here is a rundown of the specs that have been leaked just days before its official announcement: I think at 5", a 1080p panel will be pretty good and having more pixels doesn't always make sense. I do think it looks nice, I don't like the gold/silver combo but the gunmetal one looks sharp. It looks like a conservative upgrade over the M8, not enough to make people want to ditch their M8s but enough to be a solid update to what was already a solid phone. Here are some more specs on the camera, you've got your 4K shooting at a 27.8mm lens. Seems like a solid step up from the UltraPixel nonsense, hopefully the low light shooting stays good. Android Central also had a preview of the M9: http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-one-m9-preview?utm_source=ac&utm_medium=dlvrit http://www.theverge.com/2015/2/22/8084639/htc-one-m9-specs-pictures-leak http://www.mobilegeeks.de/artikel/htc-one-m9/

Seems that after all the leaks, someone posted a video on YouTube showing the body of the M9. It looks almost identical to the M8, except the square camera (20 MP now) lens on the back and the power button is now on the side. Also the lens might be made of sapphire according to this picture (link: http://imgur.com/fS9sOF0) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRnE6v4QBy4 It was expected, although, I have to agree, disappointing. With the M9 resembling the M8 so much, you have to wonder how many people will actually want to upgrade their phone for this one. Still looks very nice, the sides look a bit less slippery, BUT it is almost the same exact phone Sorry if it's been posted before, couldn't find a post with this video and the pic. edit: figured out how to add the picture Video mirror: <removed by staff> Source: http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/2xgo5e/first_htc_m9_hands_on_video/

It seems like we have two different versions (either being tested or for release) of this M9 Plus. Nothing fairly concrete so far, but it seems like the Snapdragon 810 might not be the only chip in consideration, seems weird that they would go to MediaTek for an alternative. http://www.phonearena.com/news/HTC-One-M9-Plus-images-leak-showing-a-bigger-badder-flagship-in-the-making_id66900

Hello Internets, So this morning I attempted to update some apps on my HTC One (M8) and found that there was apparently insufficient space on the device to install the aforementioned updates. Upon deleting some apps I didn't use in favour of the updates that I would use, I was given continued error boxes (and of course I didn't think to write the code down). I simply restarted the phone, and after this my phone had contracted a peculiar ailment; it does not maintain a stable connection to my home WiFi, no matter what I try. I open Facebook, and it can't update my feed. I open Snapchat, and it can't update messages. I go into the play store, I am met with a screen saying "check internet connection and try again". Does anyone know what is causing this and how I might go about fixing it? Any help in regards to this frustrating issue will be greatly appreciated, - tharrison14 P.S. It works perfectly on mobile data, it's just that I'm limited to 1GB a month on that. P.P.S. To add to the confusion it will receive and update Facebook messages, but when I go into Messenger it refuses to work. A few other apps seem to display the same behaviour.

The HTC One M8 and Lumia 830 will both be coming to AT&T on November 7th, 2014. If you recall, the HTC One M8 for Windows was already available since August 19th but was exclusive to Verizon. It looks like that exclusivity is now over. When you purchase the Lumia 830 through AT&T you also get a FitBit Flex for free, which costs $99 on its own. It's good to see more Windows Phone coming to more carriers, something Microsoft needs to work on getting Windows Phones to wireless carriers much faster, especially carriers outside of the US. It will be hard for Windows Phones to be successful if its difficult for people to purchase them in the first place. This is slightly more of rant than a review but I would like to warn you guys about the support at HTC. Ok so it all started this October when I noticed the purple tint issue happening to my camera (On the HTC One). If you do not know the purple tint is caused by thermal defect in the camera meaning it will need to be replaced. So I go to HTCs tech support page and start a service ticket. The first person to contact me was actually quite helpful and left me in a good mood after talking to them. What They Said: This a a known issue We can fix it EBay is a valid place to purchase the phone Check back in 2 days to see if your P.o.P. has been processed I did by my phone off EBay because as a student I can not afford to drop 700-800 USD on a phone. Two days later I check back in: "Sir we can not find the P.o.P. please send a new one in" So I ask if Ebay is a valid place to buy the phone and they say yes and it will be repaired for free once we get the P.o.P. So two days later I check back in after resending the P.o.P., Still Ebay is OK and we can't find your P.o.P.. After that I kind of just forgot for a week or two and when the camera issues started to worsen I contacted them again hoping to see if I could get my phone fixed. Finally they found the P.o.P. Its going to be 90 dollars Ok I'm a little pissed that I had been lied to be 3 of their customer reps but I was willing to pay that much so I send the phone in. One week later they send me an email saying the phone has be processed and that the new quote on the camera repair is almost 200 USD. So this is when I start to research some local places in my area that might be able to repair the phone most of them can do it for less than 100 USD. I request my phone back from HTC. After about one week of shipping the phone comes well packed in a little box and it seems like it made it back in one piece, that was last night and it just goes downhill from there. Exhibit 1: They wiped my phone without warning, I had it backed up so it was just a little frustrated that I had to restore everything. THEY NEVER WARNED ME ONCE. So now I'm warning you back up your phones before sending them to HTC. Exhibit 2: The Battery. Last night when I got the phone it was dead and seemed like it was charging rather slowly so I left it until the morning to download my backup. This morning I get up and my phone is at 10% battery and when I look at the graph it has died twice in the last hour. I've now tried multiple chargers and none of them have any effect on the battery. So Don't use HTC customer support ever, it is one of the worst experiences I have ever had. Updates coming soon on how HTC responds to the dead battery.

I've just got my new HTC M8 Harman/Kardon and I would a great screen protector for it. I saw linus' video on phantom galss and I love it. Only one problem I cannot find a HTc phantom glass on the US NCIX store or on the US Amazon store. However I did find it on the NCIX Canadian store. I was wondering if I can buy it on the canadian store and have it shipped to my PO box. If not is there anywhere else where I can purchase this screen protector.
