I just ran the SteamVR Performance Test, and I’ve heard from some people it’s not the most accurate. I’m hoping to get a second opinion on whether I can run VR. I have 16GB of RAM, by the way. Thoughts?

I wanted to buy a vive used but it dosent come with controllers. Where could I get some cheap, instead of the 130$ for 1.

Hey guys So i bought a HTC Vive headset and wanted to set it all up. I have plenty of room (i remeasured twice), the base stations are above 2m and everything is according to vives description. But when i want to do the SteamVR setup it tells me that my room is too small, wtf? Do you have a solution to this? Reinstall, restart etc. didnt work either! Thanks a heck of a lot to anyone who helps!

I just got the HTC VIVE and to hook up the HDMI cable to my RX VAGA 56 it only has one HDMI, the one my monitor is using. Is there a way i can use my crappy MOBO HDMI to run the monitor and the GPU to run the VIVE? i heard that it might have to be on the same card but am wondering if i can save time and money with a graphics hit to my monitor that i wouldn't be using to get the system up and running. Thank you

Every time I see a VR discussion of if someone should buy an Oculus or Vive, I always see people claiming that the rift doesn't have roomscale. It's had roomscale for like 2 years. Ever since touch released. In fact, it's pretty much the same size playspace too. Around 12x12 feet with 3 sensors and about 14x14 with 4 maybe a bit more. That's not counting expanding the playspace to the point where the tracking gets bad of course for either one. They're pretty much the same. I don't get all of the Oculus versus Vive stuff. They're both awesome, but this one just makes me want to:

It's the second of many things built/and building (yes.. yes I am a bit daft..) So here’s the followup on the “next” build, the ShinyRyzen Mark II! You can check out the first Mark I here. In short - this was still a fun experience. Let's start - The hardware bought: ASUS ROG STRIX B350-I GAMING - mITX / B350 AMD Ryzen 5 1600 - 6C/12T, 3,4/3,6GHz, 3MB L2, 16MB L3 cache, 65W Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV Shift - Grey Corsair Hydro H60 V2 CPU Cooler (had to replace it due to malfunction of the first unit..) Corsair PowerSupply (PSU) SF450 450W SFX Samsung SSD 960 EVO 250GB G.Skill Flare X 16GB (2x8GB) / 3200MHz / DDR4 / CL14 / F4-3200C14D-16GFX (For Ryzen) (plus, software Win 10 home.. geh..) The hardware "moved over” (yes, again!) ; ASUS STRIX GTX970 4GB However - I bumped my head and went out and bought a: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (06G-P4-6161-KR) Aaaaah... The clearance with a "TINY" graphics card. It's .. It's like magic! And, the reason for this build? Livingroom PC with HTC Vive! So, HTC Vive + audio/headstrap upgrade Summary - Damn, the Ryzen 5 1600 is great value for your hard earned cash. And, it performs so much better than the Mark I build with the 1800X - to much heat output for my taste - even if it ‘worked’.. This is still not a cheap setup - but it goes like a oiled bullet train for the tasks it does - currently Space Pirate Trainer and Fallout 4 VR, but also with a crazy 65" setup used for casual gaming from the couch (with things like Titanfall 2). Sadly, it looks like I did not save any photos from the first build, but the general principle I used is logged in the Mark I build log, with the one difference that I use a "pull" setup for the fan and radiator since I had space for it with first the GTX 970 and then the GTX 1060. Enjoy!

I noticed I was getting compositor frame drops in VR whenever I had afterburner open even when the load on my GPU/CPU was really low. Here's the solution: .Open afterburner. .Go to settings - monitoring. .Uncheck power in the list up top. It seems that's all that was causing these drops. It has been a night and day difference after turning that off. ~This likely applies with other overclocking/monitoring software as well. I don't think it's exclusive to afterburner. It has to do with the program pinging the graphics card for that info. This is not the first time I've encountered overclocking/monitoring programs that cause drops in VR like this so check for this with whatever you're using (If you're using an Oculus rift, the tray tool and debug tool have a HUD section with a performance tab that counts the amount of application and compositor frame drops you've had. Only pay attention to the compositor drops and ignore any that happen between loading screens or while first putting on the rift.).

Hey there! I'm looking into VR and wanna get started the next couple of days / weeks. My GPU was kinda old and just died on me a couple of days ago (GTX 780 FE), which is a perfect opportunity to buy a new GPU! I got a budget of around 900€ and don't know which route I should go. I was thinking of getting a 1080 and a Rift alongside with it. After doing some research though the 1080 Ti seems much more capable and better suited especially for VR and highres gaming. If I were to buy the 1080 Ti, I couldn't afford a headset yet. I'd need to work a little more to purchase the headset sometime in early 2018. So I would like you guys to help me answer which route I should go. 1080 + VR headset right off the bat or the 1080 Ti and saving up money for the headset in a couple of weeks / months? My rig: i5 4670k @ 4,2GHz 16gb DDR3 RAM 500gb Samsung Evo SSD Asus Maximus VI Formula Corsair H100i AIO be quiet! Straight Power 600w 80+ Gold Sorry if I've formatted something wrong or broke some rule and thanks in advance for your answers, highly appreciated! Greetings!

I have a pretty small play area (about 3m x 4m) and the htc vive with 2 lighthouses/sensors is about the same price as the rift with 4 sensors. also my pc (R3 1200 OC to 3.8GHZ, 16gb ram and an RX 580 dual by asus) matches the oculus minimum/recommended specs better

I am looking to buy a VR headset this black Friday sale. But I am not sure what VR to get. (deals below is the best I can find for Black Friday 2017 when I am writing this post&ever 99 has round up to the nears 100&some of the deals may be offline only) HTC Vive starting @ $600usd (include a $100usd audio strap&$40usd Fallout4 VR) by Office Depot Oculus Rift starting @ $350usd (include 6 games and controllers) by Best Buy Windows Mixed Reality starting @$300usd(Lenovo Explorer Windows Mixed Reality Headset with Motion Controllers) by Microsoft Store ps: you can get the Dell one with +$50 by dell PSVR @ $200usd by target & $300usd (w/ PS Camera & Gran Turismo Sport) by dell & Walmart Now for the real talk, I want to get a PC VR that's meant PSVR is out. I also want to get a cheap one, but I don't want to lose the availability to play Most of the VR games. Vive and Rift have already support most of the games, But Window MR I am not sure what it can do. It said it will support Steam VR, But I am not sure if the games inside Steam VR will or will not support it. Anyone have a VR and know can VR games can cross-platform support or not, and how Windows MR perform?(most reviews say it's great, But I am not sure do it even support most games or it can only act like a premium window and internet browser)

I have a list of games I want to try so I already have some of the most popular games like Job Simulator, Space Pirate Trainer, The Lab, Rec Room, Budget Cuts, Alt Space VR, The Gallery, Audioshield, Hover Junkers, Raw Data, Hot Dogs Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. Along with a few others. I suppose I should have plenty to keep me busy for quite a while but are there any really good games/experiences that have come out in the past few months? I've been slacking a bit on the VR forums lately. Also the wait to get out of work and run to the Microsoft Store for a Vive is excruciating. This will help hopefully.

Hey, I'm wondering if I meet the specs to run a Vive at 60 fps with high graphics. I'm not sure if my cpu is good enough. Please no biased opinions. My specs: Evga Gtx 1070 Amd Fx-8300 16g ram. Thanks for your time.

So i ordered an Htc Vive the other day, and it's due to arrive soon but i don't know what games to get, I've already picked up a few free ones like the lab, but what paid games are enjoyable (big into shooters, and open world stuff for non VR).

I'm quite interested in VR. But right now were kinda on the bleeding edge of stuff finally coming out properly for consumers... Do you think that there will be a Vive or Oculus Version 2.0 coming out anytime in the next two years or will the current models stick around for a while with software updates and tweaks with the occasional hardware ad-don being the focus? (Tooootally not related to me getting a VR capable pc towards the end of this year but not having the money yet to buy into VR )

I have a 1440p 60Hz monitor and a MSI R9 390 Gaming GPU. The GPU has 1 HDMI-port, 1 DisplayPort output, and 2 DVI-D Dual Link ports. The monitor only has 2 HDMI ports. Normaly I'd connect the GPU to the monitor using a HDMI cable, and get the full 1440p@60Hz without any issues. Recently I bought a HTC Vive which also uses HDMI, so I ran out of space on my GPU. (The Vive uses a linkbox to connect to your PC, it has HDMI and Mini DisplayPort) I tried the following solutions, none of which really worked out as I had hoped: Connect the monitor the HDMI output of the motherboard, the Vive doesn't boot when you have any displays connected to the motherboard. Use a DVI-D to HDMI adapter for the monitor, I can't set the monitor resolution to anything higher than 1080p. Use a DVI-D to HDMI adapter for the Vive, the Vive boots but the screen stays black Use a DisplayPort - Mini DisplayPort cable for the Vive (the linkbox also has a Mini DisplayPort input, but only comes with an HDMI cable), SteamVR says the headset isn't properly connected, and I have to connect it with HDMI first before I can use it over DisplayPort. I have to switch out the cables every time I start up SteamVR. I ordered a DisplayPort - HDMI cable, I connected it to my monitor, but again I can't set the resolution to anything higher than 1080p. The last thing I tried was using the DisplayPort - HDMI cable with the Vive, but if I do that I get the same issue as with the DVI-D - HDMI adapter. I tried anything I could think of, but I just can't get it to work. I want to be able to use the Vive both my monitor at its native resolution, without having to mess around with the cables every time I swicht between the two. I really expected it to work with the DisplayPort - HDMI cable, as both HDMI and DP support 1440p. What else could I try?

I was looking at the HTC Vive and it has a 3.5mm female connector for head phones. Do I have to connect my head phones to the HTC Vive? Could I just use the surround sound that I have hooked up to my computer?

TweakTown has just shared a rumour saying that the new vive is set to come in early 2017. It feels like the vive only came out a month ago and HTC are already making plans for a new one. Brian Rowe also said in an interview with Roadtovr that they plan on the new making the Vive 2.0 thinner, lighter, have modular headphones, and just overall better in everything, as you'd expect. what are Oculus going to do.. I was hoping to upgrade my current graphics card (a 750 ti) to a 1080. Eventually I want to use my setup to run the HTC Vive. Currently I have 8gb of DDR3 ram (I will probably upgrade to 16gb soon), Intel i7 -4790k @ 4ghz, and a 550w power supply. I heard that the 1080 only needs a 500w power supply but will 550w work? Should I make sure to upgrade to 16gb of ram before I get the 1080 or will 8gb work for the heavy load of VR?

I downloaded the SteamVR Performance Test today to see how my computer would do. I was shocked. My cpu, dual Xeon E5405 @ 2.00 GHz, passed; but, my Sapphire 390x failed. My overall score was "Not Ready". Average Fidelity - 3.1, Frames Tested - 5321, Frames Below 90 fps - 676 (12.7%), Frames CPU Bound - 7 (0.1%). What is my problem here? My system is using PCIe 2.0, however, test after test have shown that PCIe 2.0 doesn't bottleneck a system that much. Any ideas?

OMG GUYS!!!!! This IS the Star Wars game you are looking for! Trial on Tatooine is a Star Wars game where you are physically immersed in the action because it's a virtual reality game and you directly control your weapons through your movements with a controller (kinda like a wii but for the HTC vive), even a light saber . This game makes you the hero in star wars. This game is developed for the HTV Vive coming out. The Vive will be sold at a retail price of $799. It looks simply amazing. Tracking of the controller has come much further it seems and should work better then ever. This is part of the future of gaming. Everyone will eventually have a VR (and also probably an AR) headset. Hi (I apologise for CPU and GPU mention in the CPU section, I couldn't find anywhere else). I tried out the Vive and I absolutely love it. I want one, really bad. The only thing is, my system. I got it custom built at the start of last year, and it has an i5-4460 and a GTX 960. I know that the 'recommended' specifications for Vive is at least an i5-4570 with a GTX 970. I'm wondering if my build will be able to run VR until I can afford to get a new PC, probably with a Skylake CPU and a 1080 (probably 2). I don't care if I have to dial back the settings a bit in-game, if it means that I can play VR on my system. Oh, and my system has 16GB of RAM so that shouldn't be an issue. Thanks, Alpha.

I'm not sure what my next upgrade is going to be. I want a new monitor because my setup is pretty overkill for 1080p.I've been looking at Acer Predator XB271HU. It's 1440p 144 Hz and it has G-sync But I also want vive badly. I'm such a fan of VR. I would appreciate some experiences with Vive and if it's worth it and if it would be better than a monitor or not
